Laowa 10mm f/4 "Cookie" Review

- In this video, I'll give you my thoughts on the new Laowa 10mm f/4 Cookie lens and compare it to the existing 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D from them, as well.
One viewer has pointed out a mistake in the video where I mentioned that this lens falls into Laowa's "Zero-D" lineup. This is incorrect, but shouldn't detract from how well corrected this lens is!

What an interesting lens. I basically never shoot ultrawide but would love a tiny backup option for those rare times where I feel the itch. The size and price of the Laowa make it very attractive. I'm also a fan of lenses that flare in spectacular ways and that circular pattern is really beautiful.
A really well made video! Very helpful :D
Cheers. Glad you found it useful.
Nice review.
If the image at 8:50 was in B&W, I'd have thought it was a Fan Ho shot... tiny figure, immense structure and large shadow play. Very nice.
Cheers, Albert! That was a great day of really harsh light and the perfect time to be out in that space. I do have a couple that I processed in B&W, but with the colour of those bricks and the figure, I had to keep this one colour.
Great and helpful review as always. I have the 9mm which in practice feels much wider than 10mm. But this is an astonishing product for occasional use.
For someone who used to use a Pentax 67 with 45, 75, 105, 135, and 165, the range of options nowadays is just staggering.
I am enjoying my new GFX 100S but miss the tiltable finder (in bright light on tripod) and the analog controls. Thinking of getting the laowa 20mm shift soon. Laowa is great company pushing envelope!
They really are. There are so many "copy at a different price point" lenses out there now. So, it's great to see at least one company making something a little different.
Man, I used to own the 10-24mm and took some awesome shots, but one in particular it seemed the portion of the city I photographed and the 10mm focal length were a match made in heaven. I never could find another composition like it. I may get this lens to carry just incase it ever happens again lol
I know exactly what you're talking about here! I've got certain images that stick with me and make me want to work with a specific focal length, as well. Hope this will help you find more compositions like that!
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer me too man! I’ve kind of cornered myself into one particular category lately, and although I think that gives more chances to become better at it, I also feel like I need a break or a change every once in a while. Maybe you could do a video of your favorite images of all time. That could be impossible though once you start trying to decide lol
thank you for this! you might be the only person comparing the two which is bizarre to me because it seems like an obvious comparison. I have the zero d and im really tempted to swap it out for this because i LOVE pancakes.
I was looking at getting the new Nikon Z30 as a low profile second camera to my D750. But I stalled because I knew id need at least one wide lens for the occasional interior shots. This lens will work a treat for this.
Hope you'll enjoy it, Mark. It's a tiny package, for sure!
your absolutely correct, "cookie" is a great "cheaky" fun name ! zen billings, canada
I see what you did there.
how's the flaring compared between the 9 and 10?
I didn't do too much direct comparison, but it was reasonably similar in the shots I did take. The ghosting is a bit more prevalent in the 10mm, though.
Too much talk, not enough samples!
How many preventable mistake-clics do You hoard through not systematically state in your titles (in ANY way) when the videos are for aps-C applications only ? (I bet they are far to many an advantage, so, to hell with transparent bro-altruisme.)
