- What do the different colors and patterns of the Ghitra mean? In this week's #QTips episode, we're talking about the colors of the headdress worn by Qatari men - the Ghitra!
It's also known as the Shemagh and Keffiyeh.
Some people associate the different ghitra patterns with tribes, that's actually just a myth. There's no pattern that belongs to a specific tribe like how different 'houses' in Scotland have their own kilt patterns.
Officially, the only colors worn by arab men is White, White on White, Red and White (Common in GCC as well as Jordan and Iraq), Black and White (most common in Palestine), and Green and White (historically worn in Iraq).

Don't the military guys wear green and maybe khaki gitras? thanks for the cool video. I just bought a ghitra in Dubai and I might wear it -- I'm a bit shy about wearing it though I have to admit. 🙂
Thanks MR Q🙏🏻❤
Can you make an episode on Shals like how to style them and wear them?
So are keffiyah and ghutra diffrent things?
Yes ghutra is the long scarf and keffiyah is the small cab or hat you wear under the ghutra
@@かわいい-e1t that’s a gahfiya, keffiyeh is the same as a ghitra
@@かわいい-e1t that's also called kufi , guthra keffiayh shemagh are same
How much more is the Gucci than a normal Ghitra? Man your English is perfect. I wish my Arabic (learning) was 1/10 as good as your English.
A normal white gutra will cost not more that 20 riyal...........the shemagh(gutra hamra/red gutra)will cost you 50 royals to 80 riyals........but cheaper options for the same are available as well ,but it's not preferred the quality is not stiff.........speaking of Gucci I'd say it would by 3 time the price .......so you decide.......😊
I love this informative video but just one feedback, I think you should tone down with inserting video reaction when you make a point. Some of them are good but most of them are a bit distracting.
"3:20" -- The black & white one was often worn by Yassir Arafat & now by the Palestinians in general, Mr. Q - iLoveQatar.net?
And since you note in your notes about the green & white shemagh/ghitra/keffiyeh being traditionally of Iraq, & considering green is said to be the symbolic color of Islam due to it having reportedly been Mohammad's favorite color, was that color mix for the checkered patterns of this traditional Islamic headgear the original?
Also, is the naming in Arabic of the speckled or checkered pattern related to "hail," as in "ice pieces that rain down in hailstorms"? Do any of the names for the headgear speak of the association between "speckled" or "spotted" & a shower of hail?
Thanks if you see this post of mine & its questions (who knows these days with RUclips & its censorship), & can answer the questions, & answer them accurately, thank you.
Thank you for the information أخي
Please make a video on HOW RELIGIOUS IS QATAR?
Mr Q represent the fun! ✌🏻 When I am 18 I want to travel to Qatar! Please make more videos about the ghutra
your cartoon references tells me that you are truely a man of culture Habibi
Is the pattern a sort of heraldry if you will or like you said makers mark so to speak
Actually the red called shemagh , white color to reflect sun light making it less hot
In Qatar we call it ghitra and the show is about Qatar culture :) In fact it is commonly called Ghitra Hamra. Red ghitra.
Assalamu Alaikum Mr Q/Khalifa.
Where do you buy that Gucci Ghitra?
At Gucci lol

I have a question please?
First of all, thank you for the informative video It’s much appreciated.
I have taken it upon myself to learn more about different cultures and beliefs and encourage everyone to be more open to educate themselves on how others do things, what they believe in and also how they practice.
You mentioned the one you wear in summer is made from silk.
I Dont mean to draw my own conclusions so forgive me if I assume that you follow Islam merely because you mentioned Qatar 🇶🇦 and Islam is the official religion.
My question is
Correct me if I’m wrong but is it not haram for men to wear silk (and gold) in Islam?
Yes sir
Slik and gold is haram(prohibited) for muslim men
Happy viewer and supporter here po sir idol
I like b & w one
Yo that used so much
Assalamu alaikum Mr Q.
I have a doubt: Why do many Arabs especially in Saudi Arabia, wear the Ghitra without the Agal?
Not sure why they don’t. Only seen religious people not wear it
@@iloveqatar Thanks for your reply
Love You from SOUTH INDIA ❤️
Indeed. I’m from Saudi Arabia and it is common for religious figures there to not have the igal. And interestingly, the beloved Mufti Menk, who is from Zimbabwe also wears no igal.
@@mhb.i It's become a 'thing', because back in the day only camel herders would wear them and that would mean you were rich, so pious clergy would not wear it.
Wa Alikom Alsalam wa rahmatu Allah WA barakatuhu . There are so many ways to wear Ghitra some wrap it like a turban others wear it with Agal but some people wear it without it because it is easier and more comfortable
Awesome!
Nice video أخي
Such a shame you didn't talk about the white floral one
Red and white and white that has designed are shemagh
And the plain one is Ghutra
I like the gucci ghitra, the flex
Is it offensive for non arabs (westerners) to wear Ghitra?
nope, anyone can wear it
I’m a syrian and we barely wear keffiyeh in Syria and we wear a black and white thing everywhere but the more eastern u guy like homs or ar raqqah u will see agals
I assumed that red / white scarf was a Jordanian thing...it's commonly seen in Jordan. Thanks for all the info
Nah its more of a saudi thing. When ppl see arabs wear it they imagine they are saudi automatically.
Olive Green is often preferred by western Survivalists, Campers and Bushcrafters.
- Just due to how practical the garment is. - It has no meaning, other than being fond of nature and fresh air.
where to buy???😔
At Tailors and what I recommend is Lexus it’s the best in Qatar
you still didnt explain what the red/White ghitra means
this type of ghitar [red/white] it's just a color means nothing and it's came from UK in the past
ibs. q 2:25
its made of silk?
No, it’s made out of fabric
Silk is haram to wear for men
Can we get an in-depth explanation of Abayas too. We want to get woke.
No
@@mohammad8660 dude. I shall not go to war with you this morning.
We have this one for you- ruclips.net/video/1ZPDtl7MUKM/видео.html
Why do some people not wear the agal on their ghitrah
When people are praying they don’t put the igal but if they’re not praying, they definitely put it but if they’re not praying, the only people that don’t wear it are the Sheikhs ( religious people )
How to wear the Ghitra?
you have to make it in a triangle shape and put it on your head and then put the igal but you have to wear a Ghahfiya under it to keep it in place and not make your head uncomfortable
Why don't religious clergy wear an Egal?
The imams of Masjid Al Haram and Madhina don’t wear it because it falls down when going in sajda
@@mohammad8660 same to me
@@mohammad8660 no I wear it and it does not

Title: What DO..... actually noop.... it is WHAT DOES...... mean. OMG.
I would like you to explain why you don't wear shoes most of the time but you wear flip-flops
The whole purpose of the Thobe is to keep us cool. Sandals are cooler.
i have sandals and i think its better than shoes
i also got thobe, igal, gahfiya and red and plain white ghutra also
Its just a cultural norm in Qatar, for example in Kuwait most men wear shoes with their thobes or dishdashas
Shaal (how to spell?) Is made of silk?
From what I know, silk & gold are forbidden for Muslim men. Enlighten me, brother.
It’s soft, but it’s not made out of silk. It’s like a soft fabric and this is how it’s spelled ( Shaal )
What does the Green and White color mean?
The white one is to reflect their sun and us Qatari don’t wear a green Ghitra we only wear a white one and a red one and then winter we wear like beige and other colors with patterns
Why qatari guy always wear white ghitra
Dear.sir.i.love.your.national.wear
Kuwait 965 Qatar 974
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I want all of them.I AM NOT FROM QATAR(I don't want the military ones)
Woowww 😍😍
in Palestine, the black and white were only worn after the first intifada. it's not part of Palestinian culture but it's just worn to show resistance against the occupation. also, the story behind the red ghutra is interesting. when the British colonized what is modern-day Jordan and Palestine at that time the people were one there was no such thing as Palestinian or Jordanian. but the British wanted to separate so when they split the land they made the Jordanians were a red ghutra so they could differentiate between the two groups. so the red ghutra became common and spread throughout the gulf. but im palestinian and my grandfathers always wore thobes with ghutras and igal.
The black one is known as the Palestinian one because it was commonly used by farmers and to mask identities during revolts, even before the intifadah. I agree that none are exclusive, but they have the names for a better purpose than to just divide
According to islam..The music instrument is harram..Only duff is permissible.may Allah guide you
When you visit middle east u can see dudes dressed up in gowns and headscarf lolo🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂 if ur a hijabi its definitely funny
gowns???? you think you’re funny. Our traditional clothes are the best clothes in the world.
Gahfiya Ghitra Igal

حبيبي
whats with the mandress? why do all middle easterners wear the man dress? and dont tell me its cooler, because its no "cooler" than pants or even shorts and a t shirt. give me the real reason.
It’s literally because it’s cooler, the Arabs have done it for thousands of years even before Islam, do you have an idea how hot it is in Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia
First of all it is cooler because we also wear shirts and jeans when we go to Europe or America, but Americans wear shirts and jeans everywhere second of all, it’s our traditional clothes for more than 1000 years
Islam stands for modesty, Gucci isnt modesty....
