This was probably one of the most genuine video on youtube, no scripts, no plans, just a man with his camera, I wish you good luck with your content creation journey and hope you succeed
Like you, just starting out. Been taking pictures for 60+ years. But got frustrated with cell phone, even though my Samsung S22 Ultra has the best camera and lenses out there. I, too, got a great Canon M50 Mark ii and am having a total blast getting back to holding a real camera. Picked up a number of lenses, it came with the Canon 15-45 mm. Then picked up a Canon 22 mm F2, Rokinon 12 mm F2, Canon EF -> EF-M adapter, a Canon EF 70-300 mm telephoto, a Canon EF 50 mm F1.4, and a Canon EF 28-135 mm. The EF lenses I managed to get super cheap $30-80 each. Using each for a week at a time to immerse myself in what and how each lenses plays into the kinds of images I like to make, mostly nature, street, architecture and musical events. Like you said, good to have a hobby that gets one excited and seeing the world. Sometimes not being able to work for a bit, puts us back in that beginners mind and turns our minds to learning and seeing. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. By the way, I used to live up the Indian Arm, above Deep Cove, at the foot of Mount Seymour. No place on earth like British Columbia, I still miss it. All the best.
I started the same way - from my iPhone, figuring out new mics, etc after watching the RUclips creators. A tremendous learning experience but it’s really paying off for me. Glad to subscribe to your channel as we have followed similar paths! I have the Canon 11-22mm lens, but I think you sold me on getting the Sigma 16mm as well.
Thanks Ron! Yes the iPhone was very limiting, even with minimal photography experience going to the M50 with the sigma 16mm lens upped my game dramatically! You won't regret getting the 16mm sigma, I've also got the 56mm sigma and its stunning! Best of luck and thanks for the support Ron!
@@SteveKiziak It’s gonna be fun keeping up with you! If you ever want to watch my channel, it’s titled 2Days Denarius. Just put together my first vlog video last week!
Love the authenticity. I'm on the same journey. I'm picking up this lens soon. I have the 15-45 kit lens, 22mm, 11-22mm, and the 55-200mm. I have A LOT to learn but it's a fun learning process.
Excellent video! The M50 is shockingly light and simple. I have a M6 Mk II, but I am about to get a refurbished M50 Mk II as well. Pair it with a good wired or wireless microphone, and you can make professional looking videos on the street for not much money. My M lenses are the Sigma 16mm, Sigma 52mm, Canon 18-150mm, 11-22mm, Canon 32mm, and Canon pancake 22mm. The Sigma primes are incredible, and the Canon 32mm is simply the pinnacle M lens. The M is going to remain a usable mirrorless system well after it is discontinued.
Yeah its such a game changer! Those sigma lenses are amazing! And thank you so much for the comment and Sub. I'm doing my best to get more videos out too. Day job keeps getting in the way though... All the best on your filming journey Tana.
@@SteveKiziak blessings with everything!! I’m just here to support my fellow RUclips! Have a good day but test the sigma is my whole entire life right now
I have just ordered the Canon EOS M6 Mark ii with the Sigma 16mm (and a few other lenses). Your footage looks awesome. I hope I can achieve good results too.
Expensive hobby by the way, especially once you start adding lenses. I ordered the Camera but then I started looking at lenses ... I am glad I didn't fork out for a much more expensive camera because you need money for the lenses too which all adds up to way more than the cost of the camera.
Oh yeah bro!!! That looks really good!! I'm taking my Sigma to the Philippines when things open back up!! Stay cool, be safe,.....and KEEP MAKING VIDEOS!!!👊🏼
Good video. I've been researching what lens to buy to replace/augment the kit lens that came with the M50. I was going to get a 10-18mm, but figured out I don't need the extra field of view for vlogging, but I DO need a fast lens for depth of field and low light videos like this. So I made the same choice that you did.
Hey Steve! This video found me Bc I had been browsing the m50 mark ii and new camera setup.. I actually purchased the exact setup lense/camera I went with the rode wireless mic though. Anyhow I am a brand new RUclipsr also and I subscribed to you. I look forward to watching you grow in the future. Take care- BIGBAKE
Thanks for the comment. Like I was saying, it was a night and day difference going from my iPhone XR to the Canon/Sigma 16mm. I was blessed with awesome natural light when I shot this but basically everything you see is in camera. No post colour correction at all. Just have a decently exposed shot and crank open that shutter! 1.4 All day long!!
Nice video, I really enjoyed it. Steve keep it on with what you like to do and never give up :) . I really enjoy this lens and I had to order one for myself, I am a filmmaker and gamer and I have been looking for a backup camera recently to shoot some videos without me taking a bigger camera with me all the time and as well to use as a webcam, so I got the M50 and I just order this lens because I can see is going to look awesome for what I want to achieve. Thanks for sharing and keep it up :), cool videos, you got a friend here.
Thanks so much for the kind words and encouragement, it's been really cool hearing from everybody! I love this RUclips community! Best of luck on your filming journey!
Oh cool! To be honest I've barley touched the camera in months since I've gotten back into dirt bikes but I'll definitely start taking it to the track once the 2021 riding season starts back up!
@@SteveKiziak thanks for your reply! I’ll look harder. I got the camera with the sigma lens last week. I’ve been searching for the app without success so far. Cheers.
Awesome! I love the quality and the way you recorded it and put it together. Do you use a gimbal? I have the m50 + Sigma 30mm ( I plan on buying the 16mm). p.s. I love how casually you're speaking. No tension in voice (which is really common nowadays on YT). This was so relaxing to watch.
Wow! That's such a nice compliment. It was a really off the cuff video to be honest. I don't have a gimbal but id like to get one soon. And Everything was in camera, no post colour correction. Just beautiful natural light! Sigma lens was wide open too!
I found it difficult to keep the that lens from blowing out the highlights. Even with an nd filter. I found myself constantly making adjustments during filming my family’s trip to Florida. I have the 11-22 now and the aperture only goes down to 4 I think. I’m just not experienced enough for the 16mm lens.
Hey Jerry thanks for the comment. I find that you need lots of ND when you're shooting outside with the 16mm Sigma so the image doesn't get blown out. I've got an ND8 and it still isn't enough for full sun. I'm a sucker for the look the 1.4 gives you so I'll always have some level of ND when shooting outside. Best of luck!
i know, i am 7 months too late, buut highlights didnt get blown out because of a lens! you need a good camera to get better dynamic range.. and you can also go down to f4 or even f16 with the sigma 1.4.... the sigma is a lot better than the 11-22 if you dont need that focal range
@@tim-n.schutze8796 I got an variable nd filter for the lens and it’s on the m50. I was still new to it all so once I learned more about all of the settings, I got it under control. And you don’t need that much of a better camera. The m50 isn’t a $3000 camera but it’s not a $50 either.
I found out yesterday when shooting stills with my EOS 5d with an ND filter - it changes the color balance, so you'd better get used to setting a custom color balance when you shoot, or use a histogram in post. More fun........
What an awesome compliment! Thank you Alora. And I'm going to try and get another video out soon! I want to try and recreate that scene I shot. It was amazing natural light out that particular sunset.
Hey i have the 16mm for the canon m50,,,,,,, its suppose to be blurry in background,,,,, but when i press record,,,,, everything just becomes clear,,,, not blurry before i press record,,,,, what am i doing wrong? What mode should i have it on?
If you're in manual mode, shoot at 1.4 with the sigma lens. And Blur really depends on the distance from subject to BG difference. But I'm no expert by any means. There's a lot of really good RUclips tutorials on this camera for a more expert opinion. Best of Luck!
Hey Sayyed thanks for the question. I was shooting at 24fps with the lens wide open at 1.4 and the iso was at 100. I had some awesome natural light that night! It was a while ago that I shot this and can't remember the picture profile. Because I had no experience with the camera (at the time of this shoot) I probably had a setting that was recommended form a RUclips video tutorial I watched on the M50..
