My first game at Old Trafford, what a way to start.
What a game...my first game was against Bright....only beat them 1-0, Ole scored in the 70+ minute......still fantastic to see the reds...won the league that year.
Same as that as a 10year old lad. Great day and what a first game to go and watch
I remember I watched this with mixed feelings..was happy for Yorke like sort of a redemption for him..becos he was already out of favor from Ferguson before this match..but alas this match did not save Yorke even though he got a hattrick and every touch turned gold
Mine was against Middlesbrough... Lost 3-2 😢
My first game was in the Charity Shield in 1999 when Arsenal won 2-1.
I spent the entire 90 minutes sat behind one of the infamous Wembley pillars. Thanks mum!

While Wenger's attacking & creative football was beyond legendary and an absolute joy to watch, he never really had a clue defensively compared to George Graham and previous Arsenal managers. He never really learned how to win ugly. This is probably why he never won a champions league, always trying to go toe to toe with teams like Barca or Bayern.
Mate, for this match, Wenger had a back line available of Gilles Grimandi, Sylvinho, Oleg Luzhny, Igors Stepanovs, and a very young Ashley Cole. Can't really blame him for the outcome lmao
I absolutely agree. Not conceding is more important than scoring many times,esp. When playing against Man U of Ferguson.
Eh, Arsenal in 1998/99 conceded 17 goals all season. That's a ridiculous stat considering we won the league and conceded 37.
@@wharsmetoothpicson9465 The was the defensive unit George Graham built. Adams, Keown, Dixon, Winterburn etc were all still there in the late 90s to early 00s. It comes as no surprise that Arsenal's fortunes began to change defensively when that backbone had all finally gone.
I remember they signed Sol Campbell for the next season and how they needed him.
During that era it was one of the best teams including Madrid Barca and Milan and others.

Then again different players have different standards. To Vieira, being a 3-time ChampionsLeague "Quarter-finalist" is probably some immense achievement for him in 11 CL campaigns with Arsenal, Juventus & Inter but Keane scored in 2 CL semi-finals and has won the competition and again he feels he was just doing his job.
