    I'm glad Jason didn't try and copy Cliff's original performance of this song and decided to create his own version. Just for clarification Jason did use Wah while performing but this is a recording coming directly out of his clean channel.

      create his own version ??? dude, he was trying to play cliff's fills but ended up delivering a shit quality in both timing sense and melodic as well

      Ahmad Yahya Jason's playing style is completely different to Cliff's so he was never going to try and play what Cliff originally played, if you listen to this that is quite obvious. "a shit quality in both timing sense and melodic" now you're entitled to your opinion but I cannot see the logic in this statement other than the fact that you personally dislike Jason.

      Scott Smith dude let me first mention that i spent nearly a week trying to get down every note cliff played on the record when i covered this song " you can check it out if you have time lol ", i know every fill, every riff and lick cliff played on this song, and trust me, jason was trying to get some as close to them as possible.
      i have what supports my claim, 3:32, jason, he clearly got lost out there trying to do a minor scale run, listen to that.
      5:03 until 5:13, he had an idea but the execution was horrible, keep a good attention on the timing and stability.
      jason was the first bassist that got me to start playing at the first place, how can i hate him ??? i am just saying that his performance on this is shameful.

      Ahmad Yahya I've check out your cover and it's very good and even given it a like as it's very good. I still think you're wrong. Jason is a good enough player to play it exactly as Cliff did (his playing on Doomsday For The Deceiver proves this). He played Orion differently to how it was originally played and I imagine he's done the exact same thing with Ktulu.

      +Ahmad Yahya (Iraqi Bass Player) you are really crazy dude . to allude that jason couldn't play this . i don't want to sound disrespectful but metallica's tracks are not that hard on bass . and especially for a professional bass player that auditioned to metallica like jason did ( that implies knowing all the back catalog by heart which was the KEA/RTL/MOP) . it is his own iteration and i am glad he did it . jason newsted is as technically proficient as any of the others bass players . he serves the song more than trying to play for the sake of playing and has the best tone on bass of all the 3 + has a stage presence like no other .

    I wish the original song would appear on a Guitar Hero so we could get the isolated bass.

    K, first of all, it's wah folks. Secondly, the reason you don't hear it or distortion is because this is his clean output, which is what got it's own channel in the surround sound version. Of course Jason used wah, you can see it clear as day on the DVD.

  • @dickcheese663
    @dickcheese663 13 лет назад

    true true, on the dvd he is clearly using a wha, if you listen closely, u can here his wha on a separate output, i think it was split audio for effect. i can hear the clean and the wha when i put headphones on

    @GothicXII It's because this was taken from the Surround sound version, so it's not the track from the board itself but just mono out of the 5.1? Something like that. That's how I was told they got this track

    Everyone saying Cliff's version is better because he used effects doesn't seem to realize Jason did in S&M too. This is just his dry out, as in his clean channel. Watch S&M and you'll see and hear Jason wahing, clear as day. =p

    nope nope nope. In those S&M concerts, Jason only used the wah on For Whom the Bell Tolls. no wah in this one. And it is better THIS WAY!! lol!

    • @artvandelay4485
      @artvandelay4485 7 лет назад

      yes he used a wah on this one. Are you deaf? He is standing with the wah the whole song. Its just on another channel.

  • @artvandelay4485

    Tobad this one lacks the wah distortion which is on another channel.

    Is everyone here an idiot? When you use effects you tend to have two outputs. This is obviously his clean channel.

  • @SahrThundermane
    @SahrThundermane 13 лет назад

    Cliff's version is definately better than this. However, Jason's playing is more melodic than Cliff's as a rule, and Jason's playing on this version gives it a very eerie feel. It's quite nice.

    Jason is Very tallented, but listening to the off-timing by Newstead in some of Cliff's most amazing licks in the song makes you realise what a Treasure Cliff was.

    • @artvandelay4485

      this is the s&m version but without the wah distortion which is on a another channel

  • @l0bster13
    @l0bster13 13 лет назад

    its not just just wah that makes cliff so much better, its the little licks and fills he adds and the timing of the wah & distortion is amazing. jason is an awsum backing vocalist but his style of bass on the old school albums dont go. cant stand it

  • @JLLproductions
    @JLLproductions 13 лет назад

    cliff burton does it better. he uses wah
