      You'd think that's enough to settle the matter. Yes, they sold out. So fucking what?

    • @nmlss
      @nmlss 3 месяца назад +39

      According to "the hardcore metal fans", Metallica sold out when: they recorded a ballad (Fade to Black) in 1984, when they signed out with a major (MOP, 1986), when they released a video (One, 1988), when they slowed down (black album, 1991), when they cut their hair and were more influenced by blues and hard rock (Load/Reload, 96/96), when they made an album without solos (St. Anger, 2003), when they came back to the thrashier heavier sound (Death Magnetic, 2009)…
      So yeah. Fuck whatever the people say.

      @@nmlss You left out the only one that pisses me off about them (didn't care about any of the others you listed)...
      When they actually accepted & didn't hand the Grammy they received for that nauseating crap (blah blah blah my soul to keep) to Lemmy who it rightfully belonged to & demanded Jethro Tull give them their rightful Grammy for "One".

    When I talk to people. They don't understand. Cliff was the Maestro. In interviews , Kirk explains how Cliff put the pieces together. James would be working on something for hours . When they went to Cliff he would fix it in minutes. I wish I could have met him. My first memories of metallica started when I was 7. Seeing the "One" video. By that time Cliff had already passed. In some way , I kinda feel like the reason "One" stood out to me. Made a great impact on me. Made me want to go back in the catalog to discover Cliff. What an amazing artist.

Even though he left us way too early, I am SO glad he was here, and glad he, and the others, kept me on the metal path even to this day. I took my 17 year old son to see Metallica in Foxboro, MA last month. He knows the impact Cliff had on the band, and metal in general. I’m of the age where I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news. I’m high school. At a party. MTV was on in the background. Wasn’t my crowd musically but there were girls and beverages 😂😂.
    And then mtv interrupted its programming to announce the news. I was heartbroken. I had just seem them with ozzy at la sports arena a little while earlier.
    All these years later that album is a fresh and powerful as the day I first heard it right after it was released. Dude I played football with and jammed a little with on guitar got it at local record store right after it came out. My life hasn’t ever been the same.
    It is the perfect album. Best metal album of all time. Cliff was the heart of it. That thunderous base and groove. He was otherworldly. So magical. Got to see him twice actually. Once on ride tour (Santa Monica civic), once on master. I was lucky.

    Still breaks my heart that cliff is gone from us. And in such a horrific way, i hope it was at least fast and he didnt suffer. Im a guitar player but anyone can appreciate how talented of a musician cliff was and im at least grateful for the musche left us and he will not be forgotten.

    Thank you, Cliff. Orion is one my absolute all time favorite Metallica songs; and any song for that matter. Cliff, you knew how to write masterfully, with amazing technique and precision. Your work will never be forgotten. Every this man made was beautiful. Rest in Power, Cliff Burton 🕊️🎸
    Thank you.

    If Cliff were alive today, he would undoubtedly be the most famous bassist in the world. Even now he is still iconic. RIP

    Listening to this in the late 80's, it seemed like every fan I met knew this bass solo by heart. We didn't play bass, but we could sing and air-guitar right along. An indelible and welcome stain on our little metal brains. RIP brother. 38 years it's been, and I can safely say your legacy still lives on. Wish I could known you in life. Rock on forever!
