- Let's talk about two of my favorite Arctic Monkeys' songs: "505" and "Do I Wanna Know?" There is a lot that factors into why these songs are so good! In this video, we cover the band's use of modes and unconventional song structure.
0:28 - 505
4:18 - Do I Wanna Know?

@@scoutlee3783 i'm not knowledgeable enough to know what you're talking about lmao but that sounds hella interesting
505 has always sounded weird (in a good way) to me and now I finally know why so thank you!
I mean, I don’t know why because I don’t understand music theory, but still lol
My exact thought
As a music theory teacher, good work and a great explanation.
That's some of the best Alex Turner impressions I have ever had the opportunity to listen to. Congratulations!
They do a similar prechorus / chorus concept at the end of Flourescent Adolescent.
It would be very interesting if you could analyze their newer albums (Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, The Car), they seem to be unorthodox in their structure, I would love to learn about them.
i've always interpreted the "do i wanna know" section as the chorus and the "crawling back to you" section as the post-chorus. so in my mind, it's not so much of another pre-chorus as it is the post-chorus continuing on with one final chorus coming in for the hybrid section. i don't have any sort of technical basis to support my argument, that's just how it's always felt to me, and it still makes the most sense to me this way. i'm endlessly fascinated by how subjective music really is even when you get down to technical stuff like this.
Great work, quality video!
I just arrived to this video and I really admire the form of your explanation and the hilarious story telling 😅. I loved all the video, respect 🏆👌🏻
Hell yeah. Just found this channel. Just subscribed. Love the videos. Keep em coming please 🙏🙂
THANK GOD FINALLY SOME MUSIC THEORY ABOUT THIS BAND
i thought 505 was in E phrygian but I don't really have the knowledge to back it up except for the solo ending on E and "it feels more like home"
Do a part 2 ! :D
I love this so much and thank you!!! Best of luck ma
Very cool, you’re the best Dev!
Devon this videos edit is very very good and imo you should use this style more 😁
URRR GLASSES LOOK SOOO GOOD !!!
I love this channel so much
dev ur bae
i fucking love this channel
Literally just found out about queef jerky a week ago and now I can’t go anywhere without watching a video or ad that happens to have dev lemons in it
Dm to Em is subdominant to dominant (IV to V) in a key of A minor.
All these particular modes and stuff sounds kinda unnecessary and wrong to me. You can resolve 505 with A minor chord any time, it will sound absolutely right. Song just never happens to have a good old resolving, which is nice thing that helps the atmosphere of a song. But it doesn’t sound like some mode for me at all.

Talk about anything by Hozier, I will show up.
V cool. Love 505 to bits
love you dev
I'm from Argentina and i hope you get a lot of viewers
This is why I love you
Mans said "Aye lemme have that Papa's Pizzeria font" 😩🥵
She sounds pretty good in music theory. can someone teach me what she's saying. I mean the whole music theory thing in an easier way.
I like this this is very good
Please talk about John Mayer, and congrats for the great videos
te amo
What’s the font u use called?

Which performance is the thumbnail of Alex from?

i love arctic monkeys
Do why Ticket or Ride is so good
you're a genius
It is midnight what is happening in this I’m very confused
dev can someone write a song knowing that its going to be a hit???? like they put all the good things that make a song hit and then BOOM
yes it's called one whole me
5:50 could be considered a superchorus, this is backed up as it is preceded by a prechrous
Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani
i got like 3 cents that they didn’t think about any of this when they made it
I love your comment!!
wait did i find dev's burner channel
first of all, you ROCK gurrrrrl, okay now let's cut to the chase can you or can you not make a video on their new freaking time machinery album "The Car"? or for example "Body paint" from the same album, their music creates a combination of the same chills that old school Rock n Roll like the doors "jim morrison" and Bob Dylan and many composers and song writers from the 70s, Jim morrison is pretty much hard to follow, but in my opinion Alex Turner Turned the music industry backwards where it really should be going even if you wanna add up all these major changes in music creation and production, much love darling thank you for the video
i like you
DO MILKY CHANCE
As a bloke in my 40s, this looked like it was going to be super annoying in the first impression, but fair play to this young lady... her explanations were concise, easy to understand, solid on theory, fun and very well presented. Good job.
Please do this with Tyler the creator
im leaving a comment NOW
charli xcx!!!!!!!!!!!!
tbh&c is their best album no contest.
they hated him because he spoke the truth
They hated them because they talked 🧢
@@josephcarey4032 i love this album but what truth...?
If you were old enough and British when they came out with those first two albums, with that sound, and were part of that huge cultural impact they had (the biggest a band hand since oasis in 1994) and the way they sounded British in the music with references we all recognise and a real British working class attitude, it’s very difficult to listen to those two and then that latest album and not be completely underwhelmed by it
It gets to much hate it's actually so good and i could talk about it for hours
I want to meet you ❤
Not as brilliant as Lemontopia by Dev Lemons
technically music theory is for musicians that suck.
the best musicians have no clue what they are doing.
ummm...
D dorian is minor scale.
it's not 3b and 7b, it's 6#. *facepalm*
Thank you. I now realize why I got more and more irritated with AM the more I listened to them. They use the same weirdly unresolved intervals in everything. Makes a great initial impact, then soon gets annoying.
Primus are better
I was mind blown when you said the pre-chorus and the chorus in Arctic Monkeys are used at the same time! This was VERY 👏🏼🤘🏼
Top band from the same side of sheffield as me
Thanks for uploading. If you have time come watch our music videos - We're an independent rock band and think you might dig our sound. Appreciate it.
