Welcome back to our PAKISTAN STREET FOOD series! Today we are in Gilgit-Baltistan, exploring the amazing scenic areas of Northern Pakistan, and discovering its delicious cuisine. The North of Pakistan is a must-visit to everyone travelling to Pakistan!
We are starting the day with a boat ride on the deep blue Attabad Lake. Once a village without a lake, in 2010 a landslide created this mineral rich lake, completely covering the village. It has now become a tourist hot spot!
After, we drove the winding roads to Passu Cones Viewpoint. This mountain vista takes the shape of sharp cones, and the peaks rise up over 7,000m! While we were enjoying the views of Passu, we stopped into Yak Grill for several Yak specialty dishes. We ordered the yak cheese burgers and the yak chili dry, which is similar to a Chinese stir fry. Both dishes were delicious and the views were breathtaking!
Just nearby is a famous cafe Glacier Breeze. Their extensive menu of food and drinks makes it a good stop while exploring Upper Hunza, but we were there for their claim to fame: Hunza Apricot Cake. Apricots are abundant in Northern Pakistan, and many of the dishes include the use of apricots or apricot oils. Their apricot cakes are MASSIVE, baked fresh and very fruity from apricots. This should be shared with your family or friends with a cup of chai!
We decided to check out the famous Hussaini Suspension Bridge. Locals use it as an actual route across the river, but it is a fun challenge for tourists to balance on the bridge and try to cross the river. We recommend using the bridge under staff supervision. The bridge has amazing views of Passu Cones as well!
For lunch, we drove to the most northern point in Pakistan that we had the chance to visit - Sost. At Khunjerav Cafe, you can visit the local trout farm and catch your own fish with a net! The fish looked very healthy. Then, with ingredients from the village’s garden, this family-run restaurant cooks up some amazing dishes using trout. One of the dishes was trout karahi, which was NEXT-LEVEL delicious! Their fried trout tasted great as well, since the trout was as fresh as it could get! Not only was the food amazing, but their service and hospitality was fantastic!
We were super full, so we went back into the village of Gulmit to meet with some ladies that we had met at the Pakistani wedding (see previous episode). These ladies run their own rug and carpet weaving shop called Korgah, which provide these handicrafts for locals and major companies like the Serena Hotel brand. We shared another cup of chai and they showed us what kind of work goes into making carpets and rugs: first there is the design on paper, then there is dyeing the wool with natural products such as fruits or vegetable peels, then the carpets/rugs are woven by hand, with an interesting tool. We purchased a mat that took several months to make for $100 USD.

i used to live with Indian students, they always told me how Pakistan is dangerously full of bad people. recently i have been watching a lot of videos which are from Pakistan and my views have been changed specially regarding the people, food and their history. . hopefully one day i can visit Pakistan. best wishes from Sweden
Welcome when ever you want to visit Pakistan... My brother recently moved to Stockholm for studies and he is really in love with Sweden.
It's not their fault. Indians generally are misguided / brainwashed by their fake media and government. But when ever an Indian visits Pakistan or visit kartarpur corridor or meet Pakistanis in foreign countries their view changes 180 degrees. I remember some Indians even stating that they have good experience with Pakistanis than their own fellows in foreign countries. One guy was stranded in Europe and no friend or family came to rescue or help him while a Pakistani served him for 2-3 months at his home, helped him get a new job there. That guy made a whole video on RUclips that how that day his view about Pakistan and Pakistanis changed. Another Indian guy got a job in the middle East in the middle of dessert. All his co-workers 29-30 were Pakistanis. He was one Indian vs 30 Pakistanis, he was worried and told his family about the situation. His family advised him to leave that place and job offer and come back to India. But he had no other choice other than to continue his job. It turned out the most memorable and happy time of his life and became friends with all those Pakistanis.
Indian people always portrayed Pakistan in a bad way just because we are rivals.

yup its totally safe. The government and military have worked tirelessly over the years and northern Pakistan is perfectly safe now, it's also one of the more "progressive" parts in Pakistan hence why solo female travelers have been there before

I started making big carpets at the age of 8
one of the worst job as a child, I used to cry everyday but me and my brothers had no choice but to work, I hope no kid has to work at such young age but sometimes you have to but thankfully I live in Australia now and I am thankful for it every single day, idk why I shared this story I guess seeing the lady making carpet triggered my memory but good video guys, keep it up.
