Thanks for your post. My husband is going to Mass General Hsp today for a tear in his right eye that happened over the weekend after Chistmas. He's (and I ) are very anxious about this ordeal we are about to face . Praying his vision ends up ok, He had cataract surgery done on that right eye March of 2024 and that's the eye he has the tear . Happy you are doing well and wish the same for all those that this happens to.
Glad to hear you got your vision back. How is your vision now? I am also very shortsighted and I had the same symptoms with flashes of light and a curtain coming down before my vision completely went. I had my surgery on 10th Oct so I’m just 3 weeks out but doing so much better now. Everything is still very blurry in my left eye and I still have the gas bubble but it’s nearly disappeared now. I had a combination of scleral buckle and a vitrectomy along with membrane peeling to fix the scar on my macula. Doctor said surgery was a success and retina is reattached but I really really hope I can get most of my vision back, most of my daily anxiety comes from this uncertainty. Good thing is though it seems like both my peripheral and central vision are good and through the gas bubble I can make out certain words from afar cos it has a refractive effect so that is giving me hope that in a month or two I’ll be able to see with some proper glasses. Thanks for sharing your story I’ve watched everything and it was nice to hear another successful story.
I’m so sorry to hear this has happened to you. I need to do an update video. It took about 4 months but with corrective lenses I have regained 20/20 vision. My eye is very dry and I put drops in every few hours and may have to do that for the rest of my life, but I’m grateful I got back to 20/20. I did unfortunately lose quite a bit of peripheral vision but my brain is adapting with time. My anxiety level has decreased as well with time but I was very anxious the first few months of my healing. Please reach out if you have any additional questions. Good luck with your healing ❤️🩹
Thanks very much for your reply! So, one month in, the bubble is gone now and I’m off all my drops except one to lower my IOP so life feels back to normal. I still have blurriness and I’m still not able to focus on any text and there is some flaring around lights sources. My next follow up with my doctor is in December so I really hope things improve by then. I really hope this is all very normal and in a few months time I can recover like you did. Do you remember after how long your were able to make out text from either a computer or on paper? Cos my eye is functionally similar to how it was when it got detached, just slightly better. Thanks again!
@ I started seeing much more clearly in the 3-4 month mark. That first month or two is difficult. I had quite a few headaches and overall fatigue and eye pain during that time. Month four is when I really started to feel better and not constantly notice the vision being different. Just be patient and be kind to yourself as you’re healing. ❤️
@@DaniLynDesignHi again, unfortunately my retina detached again and I had to undergo a second vitrectomy just 10 days ago. I feel so dejected. Things were looking up until I went to a check up and they confirmed a partial detachment at my inferior of the eye - I had been noticing a weird bubble at the top of my vision when I moved my eye up and down. My doctor said due to some microscopic holes it caused some scar tissue to form and that pulled my retina off again. I am not sure how he could have missed it, maybe it was difficult to know at that time.. Now I just finished another 10 days of right side posturing and I’m feeling more drained than before. Things were looking up before this, I was slowly gaining my vision back but this happened. I hope this is the last time I have to undergo this and since it was a partial detachment that most of my vision is still intact. Here’s to another 4-6 months of waiting..
So sorry about your situation but also very happy it worked out for you! Your videos are very inspirational - Can't wait for the next one! Any tips on what to ask the clinical team to be proactive about these types of detachment?
Thank you for the kind comment. As soon as you see any new flashes or floaters I would call your eye doctor and they’ll get you in to a n on call doc nights or weekends. The ER also really prioritizes these symptoms because they know to look out for retinal detachments.
@@DaniLynDesign thanks! Asking really because I have eye floaters already, but have had them all my life. Much like you, I am at -11 for my eyes. Thanks again for everything!
