    ALSO slight correction. the story about the shoes thing- that wasn't tyra bringing up her own story, but referencing naomi campbell, another famous supermodel of the same era. whose fall on the runway in those fucked up platforms is mentioned in her wikipedia page even, and there's been rumors for decades that the two have had a kind of shitty relationship/rivalry between them. it's still fucked up for tyra to put these ladies through this though.

    • @willGObye
      @willGObye 3 года назад +66

      Agreed! It was especially cruel for Gina, since she said in an interview that she had a very traumatic childhood experience with roaches. Considering the contestants had to list very personal experiences on their applications, I can't imagine that this was a coincidence!

      @@willGObye I have arachnophobia from childhood trauma, and I have to say Gina handled it pretty well considering. She screamed a lot backstage, but she was able to walk the runway just fine, and I don't think I could've done that in her situation.
      And I agree with the original comment, it would absolutely make the cockroaches uncomfortable. Though I don't know much about this specific kind, generally cockroaches don't like open space so I imagine it wasn't great for them. Fun factoid, "pick yourself up when you fall" is a way of absolving the person who said the phrase of having to actually help the person who fell. Simultaneously it's "be independent" and "since I've given you advice I don't have to do anything more than that."

    • @Itscody7096

    • @seechao
      @seechao 3 года назад +9

      @@isabelateixeira3713 sadly thats a misconception many people have. Growing up in foster care I learned theres a hell of a lot more that people could do if they cared enough than just give advice. One prime example is simply being emotionally available and giving your time to empathize with them and their experiences. Everyone assumes that a good contribution is the one that outright FIXES the situation and since no one can FIX another person's life FOR them, people assume that there's nothing else that can be done but to push them to put their own effort in.... When really, the value of just BEING THERE with someone and experiencing the moment WITH them while they feel the pain, WITHOUT focusing on needing to FIX or find the answer right away, is incredibly powerful for someone experiencing rough times or struggles.

      Cockroaches have very different nervous systems than us mammals and they do not feel pain in the same way. Of course no one can ask a cockroach how they feel, but as far as we know they do not have the capability to feel pain like we do. Ofc they should still not be treated badly, no animal should, and at the least this must've been stressful to them in some way however such a dumb animal can comprehend it.

    • @doggyspeak
      @doggyspeak 3 года назад +4

      Depending on the glue they were likely fine by the end of the competition, if they used something like eyelash glue or regular kid safe white glue it probably wore off quickly or if they were sub-adult they could shed the gems by molting. I'm not an expert on insects but I would guess aside from the stress/possible physical harm of handling and having a tether, they were probably fine by the end of it.

    • @Struudeli
      @Struudeli 3 года назад +5

      To be honest it's hard for me to believe that these bugs lived much longer after filming. Most likely they were raised to be food for pets and this was just a strange trip before ending up to the plate of some lizard. Of course some people keep cockroaches as pets too, but those people would likely not let this happen to the animals.

    • @doggyspeak
      @doggyspeak 3 года назад +12

      @@Struudeli I mean hissers can live for several years and they aren't nearly as common feeders as Dubia roaches, so there's a good chance they went back to being exotic pets after filming. There's a chance they got used to feed a reptile or some other kind of insectivore pet, but probably even less of a chance since they had stuff glued to them. A little plastic diamonte attatched to a bug's exoskeleton is probably less of a problem for the bug than whatever is eating it.

I have found the joy of learning slows but if you push a bit further, finding your stride makes it feel good again. It’s because the producers were never interested in Kari. Reality TV is all the same in it’s casting, they saw Kari as a girl who was pretty but not a particularly big personality, so they wanted her to be there just as a filler contestant; someone who would LOOK like competition, but doesn’t live up to the potential and ultimately goes home early. It’s actually pretty common for the show’s 3rd elimination every season, usually it’s one of the better looks who isn’t made up to be a big character on the season. they had a muted clip of her sitting down to eat while Gina and Danielle were having a conversation with someone else, so they all probably talked while Gina ate because her food is nearly gone in the next clip of Danielle getting up from the bed. in the talking heads segment, they definitely were like "what did you think of gina asking to watch you shower" and "what did you think when gina sat on your bed with you? was she invading your personal space?".
    they even will sometimes just tell the people to say things in the talking heads that they have no context for so they can edit a fake narrative ~

    I love bugs and I would have no problem doing the roach challenge, but there's other things that would really bother me that I'm sure many people would find tame, so I feel bad for the girl who freaks out. Some people have phobias, this isn't supposed to be Fear Factor.

    The stuff about falling being easier in some ways hit different. I was expecting a video about America's Next Top Model to be way more lighthearted, but this did get me to reflect on my current life in some ways, so idk. Thanks, I guess. I get how you feel and don't feel bad for talking about it.
