This 're-release' is actually the third release, because technically there was a real 're-release' back in early 2017 and that 're-release' is exactly the same everything (including the USB cable and power adapter) as the original release except the Nintendo seal of quality logo and the ESRB rating logo changed on the package. So there are three different (US) releases/versions so far: 1. Original version, with small USB power adapter, and Nintendo seal of quality logo on the bottom-right corner and no ESRB rating logo on the front. 2. Second release, still same small USB power adapter, but Nintendo seal of quality logo moved to the bottom-left corner and now a new ESRB rating logo on the front. 3. Third release, now a bigger USB power adapter (same as the one in the SNES classic edition), with Nintendo seal of quality logo on the bottom-left corner and the ESRB rating logo on the front.
The biggest actual change is on the mainboard inside the unit. The new NES Classic is using a similar mainboard to the SNES Classic, whereas the original was on a different board. This was likely done so the factory can easily pump out identical boards than program them differently.
This guy is pretty slow, so I'll save you some time: *Play this video in 1.5 speed* Box changes: 2:40 Console visual changes: 6:30 Hardware changes: 8:40 He does not go over any software changes.
Now all the Scalper will be "Original 1st Print NES Classic. Original without ESRB Rating on the Front. smaller USB Plug, rounder USB Cable and Black Twist Tie"
i mean a collector will pay more because it was the first run since there are noticable differences between both runs. had nintendo made them exact identicals which run it is wouldn't have had any effect on value. but since they are two different runs the first run gets a higher value because it's not only the first run but it was the run that caused all the chaos in the first place and so the history alone increases it's value, not to mention the shortage the first run had.
Dave the only difference other than the packaging I heard about is the reset hack added to Hackchi2 doesn't work yet on the re-release. I don't know if there is any difference in internals causing this but it is making me reluctant to hack mine yet.
RodimusPrimal I've hacked mine and I got a check sum error when trying to dump the original kernal. It still works fine and was able to hack it with no issues. Although I know there are people who worry about these things so I would say to wait for an update to hakchi2.
Yeah I'll simply wait. I still want to get my hands on another controller. My SNES Classic is hacked with a bunch of games including my personal hacks of Final Fantasy IV and VI. That 8bitdo NES wireless controller looks awesome.
RodimusPrimal If your talking about the SF30 Pro controller from 8bitdo then yes that controller is awesome. I use it on my Switch. I have the NES30 Pro controller and got their Bluetooth receiver for the classic mini to play on my mini from a distance.
Hack it. It works completely, and I can confirm this. I've done a lot to it, just like I did the other one I had, and it's all good. Also, it's been confirmed on the NESclassicmods reddit, that the chucksum error is completely normal for this, and affects nothing. There is no reason to wait and nothing different can happen to it. You can't brick it unless you really screw something up just the same way as the old one.
Tampatec Nintendo knows how to make you reach in your pockets. They've done the same with SNES Classic edition. But at the end of the day we can hack the crap out of it to add tons of games 👍
I would’ve at least expected longer controller cords. Everyone complained about them and they responded with the SNES Classic, so why not with the NES Classic?
i love how everybody wanted a 30 min video of you going in a tour of the inside of the console and the actual chages insted of the good comedie you gave
New Gabe Order Duck Hunt only works on crt's, this is their hd lcd screen version of their games, use the original nes that only works perfectly with old crt's for duck hunt.
Well, I hope Nintendo makes a workaround by making a Zapper gun exclusively for the NES Classic, which relies on infrared emitters mounted on any display. Think of it like the Wii Remote and Sensor Bar.
"What is this? What is this?" (as he reaches between his legs). By her laughter she was thinking the same thing. Imagine her delight at the appearance of an NES classic instead of another minuscule disappointment. 😂
Isaplays Game As it turns out, the new NES classic uses the same board as the SNES Classic, while the original had its own design. They both do the same thing, but there are slight differences.
Something weird just happened. Right when Dave said “Is there any difference,” Siri came up and actually recorded that sentence. Then she closed without any response. WHAT?!
Like smelling them is really gonna make a fucking comparison I'm not trying to be an asshole but this guys kind of a fuckin dumbass I'm hoping to get one from Amazon in a couple weeks and this video really wasn't that helpful at all
Your response makes no sense, I was literally just saying it is the exact same adapter as comes with the snes classic, and it if still uses the original NES classic board, it would literally just be a reshelled snes classic with a different daughter board for the controllers and buttons
The power cord is taken from the SNES Classic. As is the board inside. I don't know if it has the increased memory of the SNES Classic, though, as I am just relaying information. I do remember the Save States having time stamps on them, so rewind might be a thing now. Again, someone else will need to fill us in on that.
Sure, just take a random nobody's word on the internet, or see for yourself by actually opening the device. I highly doubt there were 0 revisions between reissues. Redundancy clearly wasn't an issue for this video. Although, perhaps operating a screwdriver was too difficult for the author.
I noticed two differences right away. On the re-release, there is an ESRB rating on the bottom right and the "Seal of Quality" was moved to the other side of the box
Dave I don’t mean to Alarm you, but the Goomba behind your left shoulder in your video actually slightly moves on its own during the video. I recommend you burn it as it might see you read this comment know what’s up and get you in your sleep. Seriously.
Love the video! The white twisty vs black twisty is an important distinction and definitely warrants the extra $100 scalpers are getting for the original NES Classics. :P. I noticed the power plug size difference when I bought a case for it and the power plug did not fit in the plug space in the case. Not a big deal but OCD folks might go crazy about it.
I watched this till the end hoping it was satire. it was not. I demand refund! seriously though, please dont waste your time making boring content. this maybe would work for live stream, but not edited content.
From my offset printing experience, the color differences on the packaging was most likely due to slightly heavier ink put down than the original run, and/or there may be differences in the ink mix between runs. If you think about it, there's almost two years between prints; everything had to be set up again to run the new packages and it's almost impossible to get an identical print the second time around. Those power bricks are probably the same internally; Nintendo just decided to use their own branded housing.
I was seriously considering getting one of these, but now that I know the re-release comes with the white zip tie, I’ll just save my money. Thank you for keeping us informed!
I don’t care about the other comments. I’m glad you made the video long and you checked every single thing because I just got a fake knock off one off of eBay. Thanks for the video.
Love that Ikegami monitor in the back of the room, always wanted one even though I have two little Sony PVMs. There’s something about the shadow mask grille that is simply special
The later version of the box gives the product an ESRB age rating, which can be found out by looking at the top bottom, and the "Nintendo Seal" has been moved to the top of the Nintendo logo.
If they wanna add anything, how about longer controller cords while they're at it? Extensions are cheap enough, but then you have extra annoying plugs to accidentally step on and hurt your feet (it's happened to me)...
The Power Adapter is different. There you go people I summed up this 18:02 video with a single sentence Now you don't have to see him show off that he bought 2 NES Classics while many people can't even find one.
For those of you that were able to purchase the re-release version of this console, did it have a My Nintendo Rewards pamphlet thing with a code? Mine never came with one and I've only seen one unboxing out of at least a dozen unboxings where that pamphlet thing with a code was included.
I'm in Fairfax, VA and I had to go to Gainesville, VA to find one. After 3 days, I couldn't find another one and haven't seen it since. I hope they are producing enough so the scalpels have to eat them.
So to save people 18 minutes.....they're the same
Stuart K Reilly thank you 😊
Stuart K Reilly Thank you!
Thanks. Dumb long video
Spoilers dude! Don't go see a movie with this guys am I right?
basically, this variant was released in January 2017.....nothing new after.
Thanks for not answering the only question anyone had.
This 're-release' is actually the third release, because technically there was a real 're-release' back in early 2017 and that 're-release' is exactly the same everything (including the USB cable and power adapter) as the original release except the Nintendo seal of quality logo and the ESRB rating logo changed on the package. Chris Leathco Exactly what I wanted to know. This is probably the exact reason for the beefier power supply too.
Why did this video have to be 18 minutes?
Oh.
*I suspected this*
Did it all for the 60cents
plasnes because it takes a while for his spectacular cringines to come out. He's not that 'hey this is Austin' clean RUclips guy.
I was thinking the same thing.
It's like watching Geraldo open the vault all over again.
This guy is pretty slow, so I'll save you some time:
*Play this video in 1.5 speed*
Box changes: 2:40
Console visual changes: 6:30
Hardware changes: 8:40
He does not go over any software changes.
Thanks
🤷🏼♂️
Now all the Scalper will be "Original 1st Print NES Classic. Original without ESRB Rating on the Front. smaller USB Plug, rounder USB Cable and Black Twist Tie"
+RetroProGamer
I wouldn't put it past them.
Only a dumbass would pay extra for the 1st run when u have hundreds of the 2nd run still available.
Yup that’s how we’re positioning the first one now
I noticed that happening as soon as I got mine. The scalpers are freaking out.
i mean a collector will pay more because it was the first run since there are noticable differences between both runs. had nintendo made them exact identicals which run it is wouldn't have had any effect on value. but since they are two different runs the first run gets a higher value because it's not only the first run but it was the run that caused all the chaos in the first place and so the history alone increases it's value, not to mention the shortage the first run had.
18 mins and didn't even get to the important questions: is the software the same, and can the new batch be hacked with hackchi. Complete waste of time
William Hetherington I had no problems with the hack
thanks for confirming this!
Hacked my re-release, had no issues at all. Controller reset and turbo functions worked fine.
3 minutes into the video and I had a strong feeling getting to the point might not happen >_
Yep, can confirm over here too. Used v1.25 with no problems.
Next the long awaited Virtual boy classic edition
I mean, it would work, you can basically fit the entire library of the thing in one hand
I wouldn't want it
Dave the only difference other than the packaging I heard about is the reset hack added to Hackchi2 doesn't work yet on the re-release.

I've just hacked my UK re release model with no problems, 700 games and reset works fine.
Wanted to know if new NES classic had longer controller cords.
Tampatec No, but extension cords are cheap. I bought two for $5,- each.
If you have the SNES Classic you can use the SNES controllers on the NES
Tampatec Nintendo knows how to make you reach in your pockets. They've done the same with SNES Classic edition. But at the end of the day we can hack the crap out of it to add tons of games 👍
Nope. Need to splib rig 2 ext 2gether for splib play on the hizzay.
No second controller, no rewind.... screw that. Just mod and add the games to the snes classic.
I just got the Nintendo Seal of Quality as a tramp stamp tattoo. Will you review it???
Silvermania Requires citation.
is bob still in jail?
Oh crusty Justy, I knew youd be in this comment section somewhere
stfu
I’m selling a nes Cassic for 150. You want ?
Does adapter have same volt 5v 1.5a and have rewind features?
Tampatec Mine's a 5V / 1.0 adapter.
Nope no rewind feature. Such a shame...
What's a rewind feature anyway?
Frantastic I think it's a feature to rewind the game when you mess up in a game
@Why can't I think of a name?
Yes, but they are talking about the power adapter, so it's not that.
I would’ve at least expected longer controller cords. Everyone complained about them and they responded with the SNES Classic, so why not with the NES Classic?
i love how everybody wanted a 30 min video of you going in a tour of the inside of the console and the actual chages insted of the good comedie you gave
Only game Dave could make a power adapter comparison so riveting
jodyanthony "Stop the presses"! 😆
I was first in line at best buy for the snes mini first release. Im good with THE ONE i have
It's killing me that there are two proton packs sitting in the background and you're not talking about them! Have you shown those off yet?
I can' believe you discovered Earthbound Origins as the hidden game on the system, mindblowing!
Larry Bundy Jr but hello you. Hope the next video will be soon, but it don't matter. It'll be worth the wait anyway, even if someone else is doing it
Hey bud
It's called EarthBound Beginnings
EarthBound Beginnings*
Larry Bundy Jr how??
I came here to see the differences and stayed for the sarcasm lol! 👍✨
GIANT waste of time!! This video could have easily been 5 minutes long. Way to filibuster.
Completely. And even the info is inaccurate. I have the original North American NES classic and it already had the nintendo seal on the left.
I have never seen milking that 10 minute mark at its finest.
"Good lookin' bottom" - Game Dave 2018
Codo8 juicy juicy fronts as well.
0_0
🙄
I've NEVER seen a unboxing video that was portrayed this excitingly before, hysterics!
I really wish Nintendo made a second version just so they can include Duck Hunt.
New Gabe Order Duck Hunt only works on crt's, this is their hd lcd screen version of their games, use the original nes that only works perfectly with old crt's for duck hunt.
Gun shooting will only work on old tube TV’s they won’t support flat HD TV’s. : (
Well, I hope Nintendo makes a workaround by making a Zapper gun exclusively for the NES Classic, which relies on infrared emitters mounted on any display. Think of it like the Wii Remote and Sensor Bar.
Mitch Mitchell Plenty of light gun games are Flat Screen compatible.
"What is this? What is this?" (as he reaches between his legs). By her laughter she was thinking the same thing. Imagine her delight at the appearance of an NES classic instead of another minuscule disappointment. 😂
The power brick for the NES Classic re-release appears to be the same as the SNES Classic power brick.
Tyler Tylerson
That is what I thought too
Isaplays Game As it turns out, the new NES classic uses the same board as the SNES Classic, while the original had its own design. They both do the same thing, but there are slight differences.
I can confirm it is the exact same power brick as SNES Classic. Convenient because I switch them out, and just leave the adapter in place.
I don’t even use the power brick. I plug it straight into my tv and that’s enough power to turn it on 😍😍
@@akersftw6622, me too, did not even get any power brick for mine. I guess it depends in what country you buy it.
Something weird just happened. Right when Dave said “Is there any difference,” Siri came up and actually recorded that sentence. Then she closed without any response. WHAT?!
*Takes out consoles and compares their smells*
Oh yeah, best review channel.
Lmao
Like smelling them is really gonna make a fucking comparison I'm not trying to be an asshole but this guys kind of a fuckin dumbass I'm hoping to get one from Amazon in a couple weeks and this video really wasn't that helpful at all
First Game dave video . Haven't looked back since. Great original content. Hilarious! Keep it up.
I love that you opened each box samesies!
In Australia, the original and new release didn't come with a power adaptor, just the cable to plug it in. You had to provide your own adaptor.
All I know is I got the re-release, hacked it no problem, don’t see a difference.
Ive never seen a video of yours . You have a great sense of humor . Loved it . Gonna keep checking in. Great video
the new power adapter is the exact same one as the snes classic
Catsinelixe Holloway by volt and amp output
Your response makes no sense, I was literally just saying it is the exact same adapter as comes with the snes classic, and it if still uses the original NES classic board, it would literally just be a reshelled snes classic with a different daughter board for the controllers and buttons
Your meticulous format is entertaining to me sir, although this is the first video I have ever seen of yours. Subbed.
You get a big Ol thumbs down for wasting my time and a negative comment for click baiting.
Finding an extra controller for two players was the hardest part for me!
Need to track down that shonen jump famicom mini
As far as i know some of the games are terrible...
Especially the Saint Seiya ones.
The power cord is taken from the SNES Classic. As is the board inside. I don't know if it has the increased memory of the SNES Classic, though, as I am just relaying information. I do remember the Save States having time stamps on them, so rewind might be a thing now. Again, someone else will need to fill us in on that.
frustrated that you didn't open them up to compare PCBs
exactly. for an 18-min long vid, i expected some sort of internal comparisons at least.. this is just a LONG unboxing version with horrible acting
That's actually what I came here for
PCB on the reissue is identical to the earlier release. Seriously. Nintendo didn't change anything.
Sure, just take a random nobody's word on the internet, or see for yourself by actually opening the device. I highly doubt there were 0 revisions between reissues. Redundancy clearly wasn't an issue for this video. Although, perhaps operating a screwdriver was too difficult for the author.
peacegiant Yeah. I thought he was gonna do that.
I noticed two differences right away. On the re-release, there is an ESRB rating on the bottom right and the "Seal of Quality" was moved to the other side of the box
Jesus guys let the people who haven't got it and let them find them easily....stop rebuying the same stuff
“A white twist tie!!! Game changer!” So good, just keep making videos!
Dave I don’t mean to Alarm you, but the Goomba behind your left shoulder in your video actually slightly moves on its own during the video. I recommend you burn it as it might see you read this comment know what’s up and get you in your sleep. Seriously.
I have never been angrier at a video in my life.
(but it was worth every second)
i never want to look at any of your videos again
C4?! I guess they weren't kidding when they said you were playing with power 😅
I can't believe I watched this whole video. Least there was some Jammin' Journey to Silius music.
TheCube360 Really there was no reason to make this video if nothing changed?
Love the video! The white twisty vs black twisty is an important distinction and definitely warrants the extra $100 scalpers are getting for the original NES Classics. :P. I noticed the power plug size difference when I bought a case for it and the power plug did not fit in the plug space in the case. Not a big deal but OCD folks might go crazy about it.
I watched this till the end hoping it was satire. it was not. I demand refund! seriously though, please dont waste your time making boring content. this maybe would work for live stream, but not edited content.
Now this, this is the quality entertainment I signed up for
If only they could change the length of the controller
I love how you tenderly handle to box and its contents... It is like your playing with a box of hamsters!
4.4k likes? 4.4k dislikes?
My local Gamestop got 12 NES Classics with the restock, but only 3 controllers
Nice to hear Overture from Castlevania3
Excellent review.... To my surprise.
Good work my man.
C4 more explosive 💣... Hahaha nice!
From my offset printing experience, the color differences on the packaging was most likely due to slightly heavier ink put down than the original run, and/or there may be differences in the ink mix between runs. Wow that was a waste of 18mins of my life I'm never getting back. I joke, I skipped through most of it. Still crap though
rturner99 Do you realise that it's supposed to be a joke?
I had a laugh. Good stuff. Made me subscribe. Keep it up!
ehhh... leaning towards clickbait
I was seriously considering getting one of these, but now that I know the re-release comes with the white zip tie, I’ll just save my money. Thank you for keeping us informed!
I disliked this video, logged out, logged into a second account, came back and disliked it again. So congrats, for you only
This video was so EPIC I subscribed THANK YOU DAVE!!!!!!
Notices your buldge 0:00
brickman409 *bulge
I don’t care about the other comments. I’m glad you made the video long and you checked every single thing because I just got a fake knock off one off of eBay. Thanks for the video.
No mention of the software at all? I could care less if a twist tie is a different color. Thanks for wasting 18 minutes of my life.
wow what an informative video ...now i can live my life full and happy after seeing this
Clickbait
Bro why is this channel like every retro gaming channel stereotype gg
Clickbait. Is this what it takes to be a RUclipsr these days?
Love that Ikegami monitor in the back of the room, always wanted one even though I have two little Sony PVMs. There’s something about the shadow mask grille that is simply special
First time to this channel, good content and keep me informed and entertained, thank you, I subscribed.
I didn't know J.J. Abrams had a gaming channel! Cool beans!
This will be invaluable to future collectors who need to know the difference between the first and second editions
I’m in Canada and the box on your rerelease is the same as my original run box. So it seems like it’s only new to the USA?
"What is this?!" Hand goes under table
Game Dave is back boys.
this felt like a parody to un-packaging vids somehow...
You had me confused for a bit there my Friend. Your left and right was different from ours.
Awesome, lol. Thank you for the laughs Dave.
The later version of the box gives the product an ESRB age rating, which can be found out by looking at the top bottom, and the "Nintendo Seal" has been moved to the top of the Nintendo logo.
Watched your video today and decided to check the game section in Walmart while I was out and they actually had 2 in stock. So thanks!
Is it just me or does the new power adapter look identical to the power adapter they used for the snes Classic?
I wish my introduction to your channel wasn't clickbait. I might've liked you more.
This is nerdy as hell and I love it! It’s something I would do myself if I had the opportunity. Edit: yes, it was riveting.
If they wanna add anything, how about longer controller cords while they're at it? Extensions are cheap enough, but then you have extra annoying plugs to accidentally step on and hurt your feet (it's happened to me)...
Did they reduce the harddrive size in the new one?
The Power Adapter is different.
There you go people I summed up this 18:02 video with a single sentence
Now you don't have to see him show off that he bought 2 NES Classics while
many people can't even find one.
You can always count on dave to make enjoyible videos about things whilst others arnt
Enjoyable is the key word there
I actually waited @ my GameStop for an hour and a half to get the re-release version; I was taking ZERO chances missing out again.
I forgot they were re-releasing the NES Classic.
10:10 the power brick is from the SNES Classic edition
For those of you that were able to purchase the re-release version of this console, did it have a My Nintendo Rewards pamphlet thing with a code? Mine never came with one and I've only seen one unboxing out of at least a dozen unboxings where that pamphlet thing with a code was included.
Sorry, I missed everything you said when Journey to Silius music started playing. ♪♫♪
But, I learned a new word today: Rivet.
Great video, Dave!
Oohh, Game Dave... I love how silly you are, and how you know it, too! It's lovely, really!
I'm in Fairfax, VA and I had to go to Gainesville, VA to find one. After 3 days, I couldn't find another one and haven't seen it since. I hope they are producing enough so the scalpels have to eat them.
the way he says AMAZING CHANGES... 🤣🤣🤣 i ... am... so ... amazed....
