I'm loving the difficulty and complexity in this game. The lack of stamina regeneration in game is a gripe I had from the get-go, so I'm glad I'm not the only one. Thing is, I've been enjoying the game so much, I didn't even know it was lacking an online feature. Hopefully, that can be remedied soon. I haven't sat down to play a game for hours in a long time.
Honestly, I found this review today and I've already been playing the game for a few days and I already loved the game because I did enjoy the first, I agree that this game would be so much better with multiplayer for things like trading and fighting other players, I think I'm about halfway through the game and I love it, the battling system is so much better than the first game, I love the cores and currently I'm grinding elemental shards to get more stage 3 synergy cores, even if you said this game wasnt worth it I still would have got it and I'm kinda interested in the other games you mentioned so I'll check those out as well
I've admittedly already purchased this great game, so I don't need any convincing as to whether the game is worth it, but I am curious to see what others think about this game. It's a delight to see content already pop up regarding this game. 0:51 - This three way break down makes a lot of sense. I will say, I've been very impressed with the hilarity of the story and the sheer quality of the monster designs; so many good choices to consider. 1:52 - Glad that got a mention. The game looks beautiful. I only wish your avatar got a full body portrait to pop up from time-to-time as the avatar designs are all pretty decent. 2:14 - Coco is fantastic and I love how they end up justifying him being with you at all times. 3:04 - The semi open-world approach is actually my one major flaw with the game, though perhaps that is more due to personal preference. I was always hesitant on when to move forward, even with the scaling factor, for fear of being under level or over level. It also feels like that the formation of my team doesn't feel... natural. I'm not usually the type to collect a bunch of monsters in a game, usually I slowly build up a full team throughout the game, and that's not a wise approach for this game given the open world combined with it's difficulty. 4:55 - Tamers prove decently challenging, and given limited move pools early on, encouraged me to have a full diverse team as soon as possible (even if I don't plan to stick with some). I get the lack of a rest option complaint but it never has been an issue to me and I feel it goes hand-in-hand with the games overall encouragement of switching out team members often. The individual speeds for attacks is really cool and has played a part in a lot of my battle strategies. 6:03 - The lack of I.V's is a blessing though I feel it's a shame to remove E.V.s; added a nice personal touch to how your team and their journey progressed. That said, the Core System is a great system to effectively replace the E.V.s in terms of the mechanic, allowing you to make your Nexomon more individual but with an easier degree of customisation. 6:59 - It's rather funny, I had an almost opposite reaction to the Nexomon you showed off. Drare looks really generic whilst Yummo looks cute in a dopey way and does a great job of indicating his high health tanky nature. There are so many incredible Nexomon to choose from, with my overall plan being to form a bug themed team... with the addition of a cat and possibly a ghost girl. I think your review was pretty awesome. It was very speedy yet very detailed at the same time; amazing job on it! If I hadn't already purchased the game, then I feel this review would have convinced me. It showcases plenty of humour, the Nexomon possibilities and the mechanics are described in an enticing manner.
Great review mate, put a ton of time into the first one and have been eliminating my social life with Extinction. Massive fan of the side quest and the lvl scaling and the cores system although poorly explained in the game is a great addition to the game definitely recommend playing.
Played the first Nexomon and absolutely adored it, I can't wait to see how this one turns out. Even as a big pokemon fan, I have no shame in saying say that I think these games are better than many Pokemon games, especially some of the recent ones. The art is consistent in style and always of extremely high quality, this goes for everything from characters and backgrounds to monsters and monster designs. The monsters are absolutely amazing, and if there was a tiny gripe I had with them, it would be that their sprites didn't always have their backs to you during the fight, and that they don't have unique calls, but those are incredibly minor annoyances. As someone who loves games with interesting characters and a story to them (meaning I've always been sorely disappointed with the story of Polemon games, or lack thereof), I was incredibly pleasantly surprised at how much depth each character has and how much I grew to care for them over the course of the game. I never skipped lines, I just enjoyed the banter. The story (of the first game) was straightforward but solid and and I loved how the various gym leaders/overseers were an integral part of the main story, not just "those guys you have to beat to get a badge and a new HM. I could go on and on, but fact is, I am very excited to try out out Extinction and can't wait to see for myself. This is giving the OG a rum for its money.
I’m playing this right now, I think I’m mostly through the game, and I already love this game! I used to hate “Fakemons” in Pokémon games as they were not Pokémon, and I would see a game like this to fall under that. But no. I love this game and it’s design. I wish Pokémon were to stretch out and remove its gym mechanics for a more story-driven game like Nexomon has!
hey i found your channel yesterday saw they made a new nexomon game i watch your game play and it sold me on the experience but i also played the first game on the ios and loved it and love your game play and review witch i proudly want to say bring us more of it please
The price wont be going up with each update, they have stated that at this time the main dlc they are doing will be FREE as well as patch 2 they will be adding more avatars and nexomon to follow you.
This is pretty late but I'm thinking of buying this game, and personally I feel like pokemon should have gone in this type of direction, the graphics that are sorta 3D and 2D at the same time look so nice, and this game proves it, plus making the characters have some more personality makes it a lot more entertaining, and just the art style is beautiful, would recommend
Even though Pokémon isn’t an original idea per-say. I do think it’s the best monster tamer game series. The graphics, the designs and the storyline. Idk, I just prefer Pokémon. But it was very interesting watching this, and see what else is out there. And I haven’t played any other of these types of games besides Pokémon, but have watched quite a few let’s plays of them, etc. Can’t wait for the ( rumored ) gen 4 games this year!!
Here is my two cents to go along.I love this game. It was actually Nexomon 1 that gave me confidence to buy Extinction. As a long time Pokemon fan this game needs to get played by the fans. As a clone I can see why people would be turned off because of the quality we all have experienced. If anyone is having doubts or has seen it in passing, give it a shot. Pokemon inspired this game (as did some others like Monster Hunter) and you won’t be disappointed. Yeah it has flaws but the pros out way the cons here. This game was worth the download.
The only problem I have encountered so far is that you can't check where the Nexomon live, which makes it a little hard to find ones you are interested in.
Man these monster designs look amazing and the art style and animations blow Pokemon out the water lol I’ve been slacking after I finish Digimon this is next since TemTem is taking forever to come to Switch 🥺🙄
@@omegagamer4124 I checked Nintendo’s Support page on preloaded games. Basically, the standard release time is 12am EST, but there are some Third-Party games that won’t release until 12pm PST/3pm EST. Let’s hope it’s the standard release time haha. I can’t say for the other systems, but I assume it will drop at the same time for all of them.
I'm looking for this game, but I love the IV and EV system of temtem and Pokemon. Breeding is a good thing for end game content. Here, nothing for end game? The breeding give a real Taming experience, they are not all the same!
the no ev or iv makes the game buy worthy alone sold me on that i'm ok with a single player mode i do hope it has online for traders and battlers but i'm cool with a 14 pound game having a single player
This review gave you a sub from me, enjoyed it alot. This game is really good, a ‘cheap’ Pokemon, but so much fun, maybe even better than Pokemon for me. On Ps4 there is a rest options where you get 15 or 20 stamina back, which I find a good fixture. I also did like you and have explored alot and just caught everything I could get my hands on All in all I really love the game and for the price of 16$ its amazing and really looking forward to continue this
I usually enjoy single player games because I usually have no friends to play with, so nexomon being single player is fine with me. I'm unsure however, about when exactly this title releases. I prepurchased it on the eshop on my switch for a discount of a few dollars, and have it preloaded. I'm wondering if the patch that allows me to play it comes around midnight for me or later on in the day. I'm still having a blast with the first entry on my phone. So if this game improves upon I'll feel more at ease with my decision to purchase it. Still, I'm quite excited for this game and can't wait to get my hands on playing it!
My biggest gripe is the stamina system, I'd much rather have points for each move instead, as well as introducing news ways to customize my nexomon to make them more unique so we feel like our Nexomon are our own and completely different from everyone else's, like introducing teachable moves, more types, having nexomon with more than one type, I would remove rarities for nexomon as well, the rarity system makes common, uncommon and even rare nexomon useless in the late and endgame, I would also love to see procedural generation with stats, moves, quests, drops, that way there's more variation and diversity within the game, but great game for an indie retro Pokémon clone, can't wait to see there 3D version with Nexomon 3, I just hope they dont lose the charm from this game
I was really let down by Nexomon, because of the scaling. You don't even have to train at all, since everyone will be my level. And if I need stronger Nexomon, then it is easier to just catch the first that I find, since they will always be around the right level.
Heya man! So big question, this game just came out on Mobile... how does it differ from the console versions? Does it have microtransactions? :( Thanks for the review!!
I just checked the game on Steam. I though this was an expansion or something, but they're releasing a new game just one month after the first one? Am I missing something?
I had been curious about this as well, but it's nice to hear that it's not (or isn't as far as I've heard/seen) an asset/resource flipped rush job. With the general look of both the sprite work and style of the idle animations, I had been a bit worried that this may have turned out to be a cheap mobile game with an upfront price tag slapped on it, so I'm happy to see that that doesn't seem to be the case.
The story is definitely better than most Pokémon games I’ve ever played If not all Pokémon games I’ve ever played I can give you that. The nexomon have some pretty cool designs and some nexomon I actually like more than most Pokémon but the Pokémon designs are better. Like to be honest this game is far more worth it than most Pokémon games from the pricing to the side quests to the fact that you can literally explore anything whenever you want to the fact that the story is damn good. LIKE JEEZ I HAVENT FINISHED THE STORY AND IM ALREADY IN LOVE WITH IT. It’s such a fun games and I totally recommend it.
I have to agree especially on the story part. It is so much more deep and interesting than any pokemon game. And I think the story has just been getting better with every entry in the series.
TNTblast500 yep me too. The story is so good. There are so many plot twist and many more things. By the way what do you think about the nexomon designs?
5:12 I found an error in your review you can press start or + on a switch to rest for a turn to recover stamina regardless of how much you currently have. I’m not sure about the steam version but I’d say that there must be some button with the same function if your playing with mouse and keyboard.
So it's totally a sequel right? does it feel necessary to play the first one before diving into Extinction or not? Will check the "bestiary" of both to see if there's a lot of new, but wondering about that since I have nexomon on my computer right now and was wondering if I should start it before extinction.
I havent played the first but this oke takes place so long after that I dont think you have to play it. There are a tong of references to nexomon 1, but you wont be lost if you dont play it
I haven't even Gone far into the game but I can already tell what the best team setup is and it's best not to focus on Speed because its stupidly slow and pointless In my opinion The best thing to really focus on is High health and Defence with a medium attack stat this is to mostly stall the stamina because it's a kinda a problem you'll run into🤣 use poison attacks and other status effects for an easy win My first starter was the ghost but now I see that it wasnt a bad but also not the best pick
as much as i would like to see a multiplayer system, the battle system needs to be tweaked just a bit before having that send off. I wouldn't mind having some sort of multiplayer PvE. PvP is where i think needs to be tinker. One thing i did notice that Nexomon has a sort of Speed Command (or whatever the term used that has a meter for the character to take action. Like Final Fantasy Pre 7). One turn i out sped the opponent. the next turn the opponent gets the first strike although i have the superior speed stat and chose the highest speed move possible. If there was any indication about that, i wouldn't mind it as much. The turn to rest i will agree. The Tired status should be for those that are reckless with their stamina rather than be mandatory to use items. Outside of that, i would actually have fun with some PvP. does this mean the metagame will be stale? Yes. there is no doubt unless the devs decide to do some type of formats in order for other mons to have their share in the spotlight. Like for say Only Common rarity mons, have one of each, No Tyrants, ect. For PvE, i would say have super buffed Tyrants that can be faced in a 1vX scenario like Max Raids.
So far the difficulty is throwing me off a little bit. It's not that it's super hard, but it's annoying to have to walk back to a healing center after 2-3 battles every time. Doesn't seem to be super balanced.
Man I'm a big fan of old Pokémon games (don't liked to much sw/sh) and this game is awesome a played DE mobile version I bought yesterday for my switch and I think this game have a big potencial to be more and more and more better in next games, a history it's fantastic, have a very cool humor on history, the graphics reminds me old school Pokémon but with a lot better graphics, and in my opinion most of nexomon designs are awesome and is more difficulty game then Pokémon, I'm really enjoying, in my opinion every Pokémon fans, monster tamer games should try, after temtem I think we have another big rival for Pokémon games man!!!!
As a gen 1 kid. Pokemon was super based on playing alone and being the best trainer. Kids never really traded til gold and silver. Just saying you should overlook these games to their core to realize YOU are becoming the best trainer. The multiplayer option shouldn't factor I'm any negativity or dislikes even. I'm guessing you must be mid-20s at latest. Haha
So... I pretty much skipped the LP to limit spoiling myself, but I just had to click on this one. And man, that sounds pretty awesome I gotta say. I've been playing the first Nexomon while waiting for this and it seems Extinction is leaps and bounds above its predecessor. The scaling has me especially excited as I love exploring. The only thing I'm worried about is the catching system. How fast do you have to press those buttons? Because that are a LOT of inputs for a simple catch o.o
In the first game when you duel another tamer and beat one of his nexomon, the next nexomon has a free attack as he enter the battlefield. It looks like they changed that. That is my biggest complaint of the first game.
I got the switch version and really love the game. Btw i live in Argentina, the Steam version of the game here cost 1.50 u$d approximately, not sure why.
Nexomon has great storytelling. I don't know about this one's gameplay. I was a bit disappointed with the gameplay in the first one, but the story kind of made up for it. The monsters weren't important to me, though, because...well, I'm not exactly sure. They just didn't feel special to me. Pokemon does a great job of making the monsters feel special, but Nexomon, not so much. That's still okay, though, because the game was still interesting, engaging story, challenging gameplay, etc.
A major thing you missed in this review in retrospect is the battle system, you barely cover it at all, the monotype issue, buffs/debuffs doing next to nothing, no traits, no interesting held items and status effects being largely forgettable/unusable makes the game become tedious fast unless you really like collecting monsters.
Coco is like the robot you have in the first game. These 2 side characters (the robot from the first game and coco) are pretty much the embodiment of the games gag. Especially because of their attitude and self awareness
honestly the fact that its not like 60 dollars like pokemon games and its better good graphics even though its not 3d and open world spawns it looks pretty good imo (swss) release for being 60 dollars it was garbage
Hey guys, stamina recovery was added after this review came out!

Thing is, I've been enjoying the game so much, I didn't even know it was lacking an online feature. Hopefully, that can be remedied soon. I haven't sat down to play a game for hours in a long time.
Honestly, I found this review today and I've already been playing the game for a few days and I already loved the game because I did enjoy the first, I agree that this game would be so much better with multiplayer for things like trading and fighting other players, I think I'm about halfway through the game and I love it, the battling system is so much better than the first game, I love the cores and currently I'm grinding elemental shards to get more stage 3 synergy cores, even if you said this game wasnt worth it I still would have got it and I'm kinda interested in the other games you mentioned so I'll check those out as well
I like how we can find starters in the wild too so you don't miss out since there's so much choice:)
That new intro is on point. Ed getting fancy here. Berry Good.
Hahah thanks bro!
I love the Gen 5-like Battle visuals of this game
Great review mate, put a ton of time into the first one and have been eliminating my social life with Extinction. Massive fan of the side quest and the lvl scaling and the cores system although poorly explained in the game is a great addition to the game definitely recommend playing.
Your social life went. Extinct
Can we talk about how Chirrent could be Zapados’ baby??? I love it!
Its evolution is a bit of a stinker 😭
Best review I've seen. I'm enjoying the game. Definitely wish they had a rest button
I really love the game, it's been one of the two games helping me cope through lock down
I’m playing this right now, I think I’m mostly through the game, and I already love this game! I used to hate “Fakemons” in Pokémon games as they were not Pokémon, and I would see a game like this to fall under that. But no. I love this game and it’s design.
I wish Pokémon were to stretch out and remove its gym mechanics for a more story-driven game like Nexomon has!
Oh yea for sure! You should check out coromon too!
I’m loving the new editing you’re doing I also liked your review 👍🏻
hey i found your channel yesterday saw they made a new nexomon game i watch your game play and it sold me on the experience but i also played the first game on the ios and loved it and love your game play and review witch i proudly want to say bring us more of it please
The price wont be going up with each update, they have stated that at this time the main dlc they are doing will be FREE as well as patch 2 they will be adding more avatars and nexomon to follow you.
He was talking about the price of temtem increasing with each update as its in early access :)
Most can be found in hawaii (Palmaya). There are some really good guides on reddit by now. Check them out c:
@@sery2309 I may have to, thanks.
Man these monster designs look amazing and the art style and animations blow Pokemon out the water lol I’ve been slacking after I finish Digimon this is next since TemTem is taking forever to come to Switch 🥺🙄
Main character should speak at the end of the game and ask Coco what even is he.
I’m so hype for midnight when this game drops
Does it drop at midnight
Same man got to get mine physical from GameStop
@@omegagamer4124 I checked Nintendo’s Support page on preloaded games. Basically, the standard release time is 12am EST, but there are some Third-Party games that won’t release until 12pm PST/3pm EST. Let’s hope it’s the standard release time haha.
I can’t say for the other systems, but I assume it will drop at the same time for all of them.
Thx for the review Ed. I was planning to pick this game up on Xbox. Your review gave me that push I needed. Lol 😆
Glad I could help! Have fun :)
I'm looking for this game, but I love the IV and EV system of temtem and Pokemon. Breeding is a good thing for end game content. Here, nothing for end game? The breeding give a real Taming experience, they are not all the same!
the no ev or iv makes the game buy worthy alone sold me on that
i'm ok with a single player mode i do hope it has online for traders and battlers but i'm cool with a 14 pound game having a single player
Why trades you can find all the nexomon in the game
@@kema93_ Cosmic Nexomon are trade worth it tho
This game is worth it. The difficulty with levels and not being able to switch easily in battles add up to the challenge. :)
This review gave you a sub from me, enjoyed it alot.
This game is really good, a ‘cheap’ Pokemon, but so much fun, maybe even better than Pokemon for me.
On Ps4 there is a rest options where you get 15 or 20 stamina back, which I find a good fixture.
I also did like you and have explored alot and just caught everything I could get my hands on
All in all I really love the game and for the price of 16$ its amazing and really looking forward to continue this
Excellent review, thank you a lot Gym Leader Ed
All I saw was a different story and pretty interesting setting. I am sold.
I gotta admit, 2:42 Really got me good XD
I laughed so hard when it happened in game. Perfect comedic timing!
It's out now.
@@shadowkat678 I know. Been playing since it unlocked at 2am
I brought this game like 3 days ago and I can say that it's more enjoyable than any new pokemon game😕
Dude I just got my self a Special CRUFF! It's darker blue and it has green eyes, it's icons gold when you look at him on your team.
Thanks for the review!!
Whats the max. level for the Nexomon?
Getting this tomorrow can’t wait
I just checked the game on Steam. I though this was an expansion or something, but they're releasing a new game just one month after the first one? Am I missing something?
The old one was in early access the steam is just a port, whereas this is a brand new sequel made specifically for steam and console:)
@@GymLeaderEd I see. Thanks!
the first one was launch on 2016 on IOS devices, the one on Steam is a port
@@beakerthebeaver581 In terms of designs I think most are pretty decent. Although, to me, pokemon designs are still better by a bit.
TNTblast500 yes I agree with you
Yeah. That is one of the few parts of the game that is weaker than pokemon.
5:12 I found an error in your review you can press start or + on a switch to rest for a turn to recover stamina regardless of how much you currently have. I’m not sure about the steam version but I’d say that there must be some button with the same function if your playing with mouse and keyboard.
Not an error. That wasnt in the game when I did the review. The nexomon twitter actually mentioned that they like my idea and added it
Monster hunter meets pokemon?
I just bought it so im stoked for something new.
What the Pokemon games have been doing wrong for years, Nexomon is doing right.
There are a tong of references to nexomon 1, but you wont be lost if you dont play it
Great review! Can’t worth for the game to come out tomorrow
James Blizzard you mean wait right? 😅
Meant wait.
am addicted to the game and i love it
I haven't even Gone far into the game but I can already tell what the best team setup is and it's best not to focus on Speed because its stupidly slow and pointless
In my opinion The best thing to really focus on is High health and Defence with a medium attack stat this is to mostly stall the stamina because it's a kinda a problem you'll run into🤣 use poison attacks and other status effects for an easy win
My first starter was the ghost but now I see that it wasnt a bad but also not the best pick
Love the review of nexomon extinction and i can't to get it on the switch soon then on the ps4
as much as i would like to see a multiplayer system, the battle system needs to be tweaked just a bit before having that send off.
Whens stream? I'm in uk
they did update the stamina regen in a fight, you can wait a turn whenever you want and you get 15 back
Yup !
So far the difficulty is throwing me off a little bit. It's not that it's super hard, but it's annoying to have to walk back to a healing center after 2-3 battles every time. Doesn't seem to be super balanced.
Is the phone version of this game the same as the switch version?
The phone version is the first game
Croncho is straight up just a krokodile but blue
This game is so much fun. Way better than SwSh.
Literally pure Joy. One of the best games I've played this 2020
Man I'm a big fan of old Pokémon games (don't liked to much sw/sh) and this game is awesome a played DE mobile version I bought yesterday for my switch and I think this game have a big potencial to be more and more and more better in next games, a history it's fantastic, have a very cool humor on history, the graphics reminds me old school Pokémon but with a lot better graphics, and in my opinion most of nexomon designs are awesome and is more difficulty game then Pokémon, I'm really enjoying, in my opinion every Pokémon fans, monster tamer games should try, after temtem I think we have another big rival for Pokémon games man!!!!
The "we live in a videogame" line was switched to "we live in a nintendo switch" for the switch version.
That is my biggest complaint of the first game.
yea they changed that and revamped the way turn priority works :)
@@GymLeaderEd Im so happy, these games are real gems ! Pokemon Shield sucks !
How many hours main story and what about post game? Also is the music any good?
I got the switch version and really love the game. Btw i live in Argentina, the Steam version of the game here cost 1.50 u$d approximately, not sure why.
haha that's awesome! good price :p
Wanted the physical version but it seems there isn't.....
The websites of different stores show it has it but don't have them in stores.
This game looks supper fun
That croko looks soooooo same has krocorock from pokemon XD
Nintendo had a sale on both the games about a month ago, and I just got done with the first game, and I can't wait o start the second.
I didn't even think about not being able to trade!
I think there is a high probability that trade is coming
A major thing you missed in this review in retrospect is the battle system, you barely cover it at all, the monotype issue, buffs/debuffs doing next to nothing, no traits, no interesting held items and status effects being largely forgettable/unusable makes the game become tedious fast unless you really like collecting monsters.
Coco is like the robot you have in the first game. These 2 side characters (the robot from the first game and coco) are pretty much the embodiment of the games gag. Especially because of their attitude and self awareness
It insults me you call them "the robot" instead of ATLAS.
@@tntblast500 it insults me that you pointed that out
@@xxyoboigxx hehe... Someone has to be correct.
@@tntblast500 or do they?
@@xxyoboigxx Yes. Yes they do.
O cool. I didnt even know Nexomon had a sequel
I loved the game so far. It feels more better and more interesting story than pokemon. Loved it.
Is there EXP Share?
Negative, but throughout the game there are equipable items that you can put onto your nexomon that boosts the experience they receive.
honestly the fact that its not like 60 dollars like pokemon games and its better good graphics even though its not 3d and open world spawns it looks pretty good imo (swss) release for being 60 dollars it was garbage
how self-contained is the story? would i miss out if i haven't played the previous one?
I've never played the first one and they make references to it, but nothing you can't follow along with and still enjoy it! :)
@@GymLeaderEd awesome! thanks for your response

Is this game available on Android? I have the first nexomon but I don't see extinction in the play store
Its on console ( not including Xbox )
Nexomon is an underrated game, play it, its so good
Nexomon is the greatest monster tamer just after Pokémon, too bad it’s not as popular
Could you be able to play this game offline like the 1st nexomon?
yup you can play it offline.
