The Fire and Water-type being good against Ghost was always about purification of the dead to me, since both fire and water are considered purifying elements.

@Kendrick Colin Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I think plant being strong to psychic makes sense based off the idea that physic types are coming known for mind manipulation. Since plants are living creatures, but don't have possess a brain like other living creatures, they are less prone to psychic abilities. Idk just a thought though.
@@madthrasher88 if you are referring to Pokémon the reason psychic types are weak to bugs is because being afraid of bugs is a common fear just like a fear of the dark and fear of ghost.
About the ghost type: so my first thought about the fire/water interactions was, too, that fire and water are both associated with purification and cleansing of evil, but then I also remembered that a lot of religions with an afterlife for punishment have fire and water (drowning, boiling water ecc) as the most common torments, and it is also common to have a "cold" and a "hot" part of hell - and we already know water in nexomon also represents ice - so if you consider ghosts as in "souls" this makes a lot more sense.
Just a thought, maybe the plant type is advantageous against psychic because of things such as hallucinogenic plants or marijuana, and how that plant effects the human mind or thinking abilities.
I think the reason why Psychic is good against electric is because a calm mind can overcome shock from electricity, but then again too much electricity can also fry the brain.
A good chunk of the normal nexomon or attacks seems to be martial arts themed in a way. Its like a psuedo fighting type. Which is why they are weak to psychic.
The type matchups are very confusing. I'm an avid player of Pokemon for years. I still get some of the new types of Pokemon confused a bit, but all in all it makes sense. Some of these matchups really threw me for a loop lol. This video was very helpful, thank you
An early game start guide is my suggestion, what mons are in what area, good early game side quests, useful tips, team composition, good moves etc. Loving the content!
Something tells me that it has more to do with balancing than lore reasons. But I may be wrong. For types, (from a dev perspective) , it makes sense that types are firstly assigned to balance the game, and then the actual type is picked to fit the story. But I'd be very impressed if it was developed in the opposite way: I'd have to play the game to make sense of it. Anyways, great video as usual!
It's probably balancing reasons, yeah. But I do think that there's some lore or logic reasons behind all of the matchups, simply because making a type chart somewhat accessible (logically) to your audience without outright showing it ingame is also part of (good) game design. If your audience can't make out heads or tails of the type chart, the game can become frustrating and less accessible after all, at worst generating bad feedback. I'm mostly thinking of the really strange cases like Spectrobes naming the simple Fire-Water-Grass triangle in weird less memorable ways.
I'd assume the process was something like this: 1. Figure out the types that were going to be in the game 2. Determine type matchups that have a logical basis 3. Figure out what type matchups are needed for balance
Thanks for releasing the video Ed! I wish wind and mineral were strong against 3 types like the rest and normal was strong against at least 1 type. Might be cool if they released a new type in the future
I've been learning matchups on the fly while playing so this video is nice to fill in the gaps I've missed, like the Mineral and Psychic interactions. Fire being effective on Ghost funnily enough was the first weird one I memorized, mostly because of the light scares ghosts away argument. That said, on the same logic, I thought it was weird electric wasn't effective (since it also creates light) so I went back and eventually ended up at the same cleansing aspect you mentioned in this video. Holy Water for ghosts, Fire to burn away the remains of the undead, preventing them from reviving. Overall, there's some weird interactions, but I'm happy with this type chart. Apart from Ghost and Psychic, most of the types are actually things you can imagine interactions, try them out yourself and then memorize based on that. I think that's really important for a type chart that isn't readily available ingame to make a game accessible but still a thinking experience. Stuff like Spectrobes, where the types are named less conveniently (Aurora, Corona and Flash) or types that are completely up to imagination ("Nuclear", "Galactic", "Dark", "Crystal") always frustrates me a little because those feel less designed for memorization and more for being different.
The question remains as to which types are best for your team. You could just stick with the main six elements, as that gives you two full type advantages over seven types (six elements plus Ghost). On the other hand you probably want your own Ghost and/or Psychic to deal with Normal types. Of the six elements, Wind and Electric look to be the best to replace, but what do I know? It probably depends on whether any of them get decent coverage, e.g. Electric would like Mineral coverage to take on opposing Electric while Mineral would like Electric coverage to take on opposing Psychic.
I know Ghost and Psychic being good against Normal makes logical sense and all, but from a purely gameplay standpoint I really want them to change that so that Normal doesn't suck in the next game.
One thing that wasn't mention about water being effective against ghosts is that in old legends it is said "that water is impassable to spirits". So this could be another reason. Also, for wind being effective against mineral, it is probably due to erosion. High winds can tear down and destroy rocks.
Oooo, fun thing about trees. Some just shrug off lighting and the fire that starts cause of the trees make up. You can see red woods still full healthy after being burned by lighting. I like to think of it being a good reason plants resist electric in games. (Besides being an insulator over conductor)
In lots of asian media and folclore ghost and evil spirits are considered to be weak to lightning because its like a punishement from heavens to them or something like that so I expected ghost to be weak to electricity. A shame it wasn't.
also dont use natural cure if your going to get ko'd right after cause think it caused an infinite loop and not reversable edit.... UGH NEVER USE NATURAL HEAL IT IS A TRAP MOVE AND IS LIKELY NOT CODED RIGHT AND WILL CAUSE YOU TO NEED A RESET TO PLAY ANY FURTHER
Plant and Electric makes sense because lightning is actually good for plant growth because it reintroduces Nitrogen back into the soil and plants, mainly wood, is a poor conductor of electricity.
Your vids are helpful, even one year later! Thinking of getting this since its on sale for $13. Even though I've never played a Pokemon game in my life though lol.

I looked through the dex and there are soo many cool physic mons, I remember how OP they were in Gen 1 pokemon, I dont like how almost every mon has the same exact 4 stats, until you get to the 280 or soo mark in the dex then there a little stronger, plus there is no special/attack split. Gonna try it out though, really some amazing mons. I think if you added two gens of pokemon together they wouldnt stack up to these 370 or soo.

Contrary official nexopad guide site is saying, psychic is doing effective damage against ghost and electric. Do you know if is it bugged @Gym Leader Ed ?
This game is so frustrating. I want to spend my money on it because I haven't been loving the way Pokémon has been going lately, and there really is a lot to like in Nexomon. But the more I learn the more it seems like a game that is just interesting because I like Pokémon and less because I like this game itself. Does everyone else feel like Pokémon was too complex and needed to be made simpler?
We're honestly at a crossroads. There are so many games that are taking the pokemon formula and making it better. Coromon, Monster Crown, Nexomon, etc. I think it's time for people to stop holding hope for pokemon to do better. If it does better, than awesome! But, honestly I'm not holding my breath.
Imagine a young kid who somehow has never heard of Pokemon picking this game up and playing it. Will they have fun following the story? Collecting all the new monsters and raising them to their final forms? Mastering the battle system and learning the type advantages? I think the answer to all those is pretty clearly yes. So that makes it a good game regardless of its obvious influence from Pokemon. I’m about 15 hours in and I like the story a lot. The writing is witty and it definitely differentiates itself from Pokemon in that regard. As far as the monster designs, there are a few duds here and there, but overall I think they nailed it. Lots of great monsters I can’t help but catch because I just love the aesthetic. On top of all that, you can grab this game for a third the price of any main Pokémon game. Very much worth it.
@@chadsmith6803 I don't think the answer to your question is a clear yes, because if this was my first creature collector I don't know if I'd like the genre. My major complaints have nothing to do with the designs of the creatures as the art is subjective. But the lower number of types that matter less due to Super Effective and Not-very effective moves being less dealing less and more damage respectively. The monsters all having only one type further limiting what they can and can't do. The lack of any sort of EV like system to customize your monster based on how you choose to train them. The lack of any IV like system meaning that you always get the most powerful version of the monster you catch. The level of the monsters in game scaling with you so that if you want to use a monster that you caught earlier you are forced to switch train. This has less to do with the depth of strategy but the rate at which monsters level up, specifically in the early game is much slower which just translates into having to spend more time playing the least interesting part of the game. The only place where there is any level of added complexity over Pokémon, which is a baby game for babies (obv one of my favorite game series even still just making the point that I don't think anyone in good faith can call Pokémon games challenging or complex), is that you have additional held item slots, but the items themselves do much less than what the items in pokemon can do. The writing is witty in that its tongue in cheek, but a lot of that wit comes from the fact that it is poking fun at the Pokémon games. If I hadn't played them I would think the writing wasn't as good, because I wouldn't have a frame of reference for the jokes. Also Pokémon Sw/Sh are 60 USD sure. That's 100% not worth it, so I didn't buy it, but the older games were 35 USD so its half the price of most games not a third. (but that's just me being pedantic)
Thanks, this realy helps! I have the same character look as you use in the video's, but than the female version. Do you have video's with tips about catching nexomon?
Gonna be real my first thought on why grass was stronger than psychic was because most hallucinogenics come from plants. You can't manipulate someone if you're stoned out of your mind
Ghosts can't cross water is what I heard before. Any kind of evil spirit or entity can't. Common ones are ghosts, witches and vampires. The idea being that water is pure and acts as a barrier. I also heard this with salt.
hope ya can do a video based on where exactly the mons that can be truble to find and tips for how to get em to spawn cause ugh is that stupid imburion or any of its pre evos arent showing up for me at all post dragon aisle first rotation in story
Great video man! But I'm gonna have to make some kind of chart so I can actually see it. There's no way I'm going to remember all of this. 😅 Edit: I totally found the chart y'all are talking about. ✌🏼😸
On the official Nexomon page there is pretty much all the information you could need on the type chart and all of the monsters which makes it pretty handy to have on your phone next to you when playing.
Wait, psychic should be 0.65 when it hits an electric type. Unless my game is just bugged but psychic moves say not effective when they hit electric types.
It was coded improperly. The reason why Ed has it corrected is because it was fixed in a day 1 patch, and he has it on Steam. Unfortunately, the patch will take a week to hit consoles due to it having to go through an approval process. (I got this information from their twitter page.) Basically, you can play the game with Electrics being stronger than they’re supposed to be before the patch comes out haha.
@@Cuicas007 Well, these are mythical creatures, I'm sure the wind that they produce will be stronger or just as strong as a tornado, which can immediately destroy concrete which has similar properties to rocks, and rocks are weaker than concrete.
Sand is just a small parts of minerals wind is weak against a heavy rock. Where is the earth type? Fire, water, wind, earth and electricity very basic type. Where is ice?
I find that there's no way to rationalize these type charts. For every argument you can give to be in favour of a type advantage, there is probably an equal argument to advocate for the reverse. Why? Because the size of the target vs the size of the attack matters. Take the ice type of Pokemon for example - one of the worst types in the entire game. If you lit a match in the Antarctic, I promise you the artic will win - which contradicts the fire weakness Ice has. I'd have to imagine that the Ice type pokemon are larger than the fire-based attack in the same way, so having a weakness to it makes little sense. Ironically getting rid of this weakness would probably balance Ice with the other types a lot more. The reality is that you just need to memorize them :/ Personally, I find a lot of these types to abstract away too many different things as treat them on the same level, especially in Pokemon. This is how you get a Pokemon like Gyarados or Charizard that are not actually Dragons. It's really silly - you just have to accept it and move on. I like how Monster Sanctuary does it. Each monster does have types, like Ariel, Goblin, Spirit, Warrior, etc. but they don't really influence a type chart. There are no stab bonuses, which significantly makes the number of viable combinations of monsters increase ten-fold as you only have to factor in weaknesses, but even those can be overcome with a synergistic team.
Ngl, the concept of a Normal type is getting stale. Were I to make a Tamer game, the normal type replacement would work like this. The name would be the "Typless" type. The type would be made up of monsters that don't belong in any other type, so the interactions between types would be randomised, so for example, if you used a normal type on a fire type, it might not be super effective one turn, but the next turn it would be super effective. But eh, I don't know anything about game balancing, so this probably won't work. New drinking game, take a shot every time I say "type"
The Fire and Water-type being good against Ghost was always about purification of the dead to me, since both fire and water are considered purifying elements.
Thanks that makes sense =)

Fire is advantageous to Ghost maybe because a lot of the Ghost types are zombies and mummy like.

Also Pokémon Sw/Sh are 60 USD sure. That's 100% not worth it, so I didn't buy it, but the older games were 35 USD so its half the price of most games not a third. (but that's just me being pedantic)
"fire ➕ fire = more fire"
Hmmmm the floor is made of floor.
Also salt in ocean water is associated with purification of spirits.
How is the only way to be free from a spirit that cursed an object? You BURN the object...fire beats ghost
Thanks, this realy helps! I have the same character look as you use in the video's, but than the female version. Do you have video's with tips about catching nexomon?
Not yet, but I have one planned :)
Gonna be real my first thought on why grass was stronger than psychic was because most hallucinogenics come from plants. You can't manipulate someone if you're stoned out of your mind
hahahaha you should check out "Druggiemon" on twitter XD
Ghosts can't cross water is what I heard before. Any kind of evil spirit or entity can't. Common ones are ghosts, witches and vampires. The idea being that water is pure and acts as a barrier. I also heard this with salt.
hope ya can do a video based on where exactly the mons that can be truble to find and tips for how to get em to spawn cause ugh is that stupid imburion or any of its pre evos arent showing up for me at all post dragon aisle first rotation in story
Not 1.25%, it is 1.25x. 25% more damage and 35% less damage for effective and non-effective damages respectively, right?
Really feel like the pokemon counter parts helped alot. Seen many wind types gettin fked by ghost.
So, Normal type is consider the weakest type ?
Great video man! But I'm gonna have to make some kind of chart so I can actually see it. There's no way I'm going to remember all of this. 😅
Edit: I totally found the chart y'all are talking about. ✌🏼😸
Haha thanks theres a chart online :p
On the official Nexomon page there is pretty much all the information you could need on the type chart and all of the monsters which makes it pretty handy to have on your phone next to you when playing.
Plants plant more plants… beautiful
To me, Mara looks like a little cute triceratops. lol
Water itself is an insulator its only the minerals that are disolved in the water that conducts electricity
Man, Plant strikes Psychic because of dr.ug.s xD
Well, if we believe that ghosts can pass though only solid object, it makes sense why Ghost is weak too water(Ninjago explanation)
I don't get which is which. There are shapes but no words to the type in the game
And another fun idea for fire beating ghost is cremation. You burn the dead and turn them to ashes
There are some cultures who say ghosts and spirits cannot cross bodies of water.maybe that is why?
Does anyone know where to capture Ripha? I cant find him at all
i think fire is strong to ghost because fireworks are used to fend off evil spirits
5:54
I wanna be the very best, the best there ever was
imo plant - psychic is about distracting aromas
Wait, psychic should be 0.65 when it hits an electric type. Unless my game is just bugged but psychic moves say not effective when they hit electric types.
Could be a bug I was using a psychic type last night on electric and is was 1.25
@@GymLeaderEd I'll have to investigate tomorrow when I play some more
The way I view the plant beats psychic matchup is pretty simple. Psychic powers attack and control the brain, plant got no brain lol. Just my 2 cents.
It was coded improperly. The reason why Ed has it corrected is because it was fixed in a day 1 patch, and he has it on Steam. Unfortunately, the patch will take a week to hit consoles due to it having to go through an approval process. (I got this information from their twitter page.)
Basically, you can play the game with Electrics being stronger than they’re supposed to be before the patch comes out haha.
Some people think ghost can't pass through water.
Is it okay that I learned a lot and nothing from this video? I can't believe I can recite pokemon's chart by heart but I'm losing it over 9 types lol
This game needs an ice type
Maybe Psychic is strong to Mineral because of telepathy? They can lift and toss them?
It's not though, Psychic does less damage to mineral and mineral does less damage back lol, so strange :P
Also Ground includes Rock and over time wind erodes stone.
Over time is too much if it can't beat it right away then is not effective. Fire burn a tree in seconds not after years.
@@Cuicas007 Well, these are mythical creatures, I'm sure the wind that they produce will be stronger or just as strong as a tornado, which can immediately destroy concrete which has similar properties to rocks, and rocks are weaker than concrete.
Uhhh I thought mara was a dinosaur
I think that ghost are incorporeus so the wind pase by them like nothing 🤷♂️
Is it on play store
Yee
Anybody know where to find Glidlee? I been looking everywhere.
Danger Donkey try asking in their discord the link for it is in the description
Danger Donkey I found him in Palmaya
I think Ghost is weak against Water becuase perhaps maybe ghosts cant go in water
Sand is just a small parts of minerals wind is weak against a heavy rock.
Where is the earth type?
Fire, water, wind, earth and electricity very basic type.
Where is ice?
Water represents ice and mineral represents both rocks and earth.
The reality is that you just need to memorize them :/
Personally, I find a lot of these types to abstract away too many different things as treat them on the same level, especially in Pokemon.
There are no stab bonuses, which significantly makes the number of viable combinations of monsters increase ten-fold as you only have to factor in weaknesses, but even those can be overcome with a synergistic team.
isnt mara a triceratops though
lol looks like a cat until it evolves XD
Cool
i think ice should be its own element regardless
so they really leave the worldbuilding for us on this one? is this an exception or a tradition with these games? seems odd ^^
To me I think Water and normal type is OP I could be wrong
Liked👍
If only there's multiplayer
Is it possible that this list is no longer up-to-date?
It's possible there was a patch or something that made some changes, though not to my knowledge why do you ask?
Ngl, the concept of a Normal type is getting stale. Were I to make a Tamer game, the normal type replacement would work like this.
The name would be the "Typless" type. The type would be made up of monsters that don't belong in any other type, so the interactions between types would be randomised, so for example, if you used a normal type on a fire type, it might not be super effective one turn, but the next turn it would be super effective. But eh, I don't know anything about game balancing, so this probably won't work.
New drinking game, take a shot every time I say "type"
I think its mind?
