Touring can be tough and navigating that as a couple comes with even more complications.
But we made it through 😅
The good, the bad and the ugly of bicycle touring. Thank you for sharing your journey including the arguments. Hope you guys are able to make peace before nightfall. Cycling under the rain day in day out simply saps your energy and darkens your thoughts. All I have to add is “thread locker”, It is not a solution that will resolve the public policy challenges, but you will not be seeding the path behind you with parts due to loose bike hardware! Cheers! Even in December I have been able to sit by old harbor and things were perfect.
Hey Philip, thanks! By now we glued the screws with thread lock and did not have any problems with loose screws since. At least at the bicycles 😂

These videos continue to engage. Well done! Very relatable content and brings back memories of our big tour. Especially the supermarket scene and the mud mud mud!!! Regarding the hard times.... here is a quote from Bill Murray. “If you have someone you think is the one, take them and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all over the world, to places that are hard to reach and hard to get out of. And if you land back home and you're still in love with that person, get married”

We actually are married already, but if we can make it through this together, we'll be ready for another big step for sure :-)
I had the same problem with my brooks (flyer aged). After 2 years on it and not carrying too much, I mean, not protecting it from rain, it was in bad condition and I could feel the metal structure under the leather, it was a sacrifice on long days...in Greece, I found a bike shop in a small town and bought a selle royal saddle. My butts where very thankful and I was happy cycling again.
Interesting. How would you compare the Selle to the Brooks overall? For us it's our first leather saddles and we have no idea if something different might be more comfortable.
@@AmazingWorldBikeTour actually after some hours on the saddle, any brand will be a pain in the ass (literally speaking hihi), but I am happy with the selle, after finishing the trip I bought a new one. For me it's good. Saddle preferences are quite particular, so maybe you will get different impressions from different cycle travelers.

enjoyed the video. cycling in the rain is miserable and ultimately hard on equipment. the other thing that struck me is your comment about going by all those historical places and not stopping. very understandable. on the bike trip you see things that you otherwise would not see but you also have to skip some time consuming stops that maybe you would stop at under other circumstances.

Oh you guys! Bit of a tough slog to start. My partner and I have had some of our roughest times on the road also. It's a lot to manage and there is no relief when you spend every second together. You'll figure it out though; it will get easier. Thanks for the honest account - it's important to show the highs and the lows. I hope it gets warmer and drier soon!
So true! Very early in of our potentially very long journey we've already felt some of the highest highs and the lowest lows. It's kind of crazy, we've never been so exhausted but felt as alive at the same time.
Butt pain can be terrible, sure! You're doing great, it's just the beginning and adjustments have to be found, quite normal. It's nice to watch, because it's true to life.

I really enjoyed your video. I know you are having some bad weather and tough experiences. Be forgiving and patient with yourself and with each other. My wife and I try to never go to bed mad at each other or at the least we say sorry before we end the day. It really works!

That is great advice! We try that, works most of the time, but in the heat (or cold) of the moment it's hard to stop that train sometimes. A big hope we have about our journey is to grow, both as individuals and a team.

Another great video. Really good improvised solution to the saddle problem too. may be stuff it with a cloth or something would help too?
Good point! We tried to stuff our ul backpack between the saddle mount and the leather but it fell out all the time. Eventually Mathias got frustrated and we made it to Marseille like that. Should have tried something bigger, something like a towel... Glad you enjoyed the episode!
Great video. Try using loctite on all the screws of your bike's they'll never come loose again. Just a drop.
Thanks and good point! We'll try to do that before we get to the bumpier parts of the world. Is there downsides to using loctite? Guess with the racks it can't really hurt?!
@@AmazingWorldBikeTour Only put one drop on each screw, too much and you'll have problems. And if you need to remove them for some reason be careful screwing them back on so you don't double thread.
Riding with someone else can have its own challenges. I saw in this week's video from Wheels to Wander, that Maudi points out that she and Eric ride their own ride, which is really important if you want to enjoy things. A couple of years ago I went on a tour with my buddy, we both wanted different things from the tour, and had different styles of riding, but we enjoyed our beers together at the end of each day. I leaned to ride my own ride and let him ride his own ride.

We've been overwhelmed, but not so much just because we needed different paces in the climbs but from general exhaustion and having our life turned upside down. Too many new decisions to make, tired, wet, cold + the filming on top. But we are getting there in time ;-) Thanks for tagging along!

Hi. Glad you enjoy our videos. Following EuroVelos and other mostly well signed routes we don't use navigation all the time. In that particular instance it was raining and my smartphone does not respond well to humidity 😅

What tent did you use, and how was it?
It is an MSR Elixir 3. We are very happy with it.
Can you tell me how you did the map part of the video around 1:59 Loving the trip so far!
Thanks Dylan. We use the free version of Davinci Resolve 18 for all our editing.
The base is a high-resolution topographical map. Search "davinci 3d travel map animation" you will find tutorials for that.
Great Vlog how do you navigate ?
That changed a lot. In Germany we used Komoot a lot. But we kind of stopped using navigation on the long-distance cycling roads, because they had been pretty well signed so far.
Who can figure out how many cats we did spend a night with? 🤯

brooks are over rated ! i had one on one of my bicycle, i rip it off my bike after 6 months !
Well, I got mine second hand with the bike. Actually I grew quite fond of it, but I struggle with the frame that is too short for me. What's your issue with the Brooks?
