    Quick tips:
    1. Grind Leanne ASAP. She has the lowest HP of the three, lower than even Zephyr by a noticeable margin when they're at the same level. Alternatively, equip the strongest defensive items on her. Quickest way to grind is use grenades because they're easier to level up.
    2. Unlock all the hexes in one particular level ASAP. You can find outfit items, healing items, grenades, special rounds, bezel shards, and even future quest items on them. Once done, place whatever energy station you have on a thoroughfare hex so you can get back to base without getting into random encounters.
    3. Speaking of hexes, farm the green L-shaped hex and the turquoise straight hex. They're useful in most levels.
Things the game doesn't tell you:
    1. Terminals that buff and nerf damages, nerf status ailment odds, and slows scratch restoration rates work on you AND the enemy. Unless you're really sure only you can take advantage of the effects, don't activate them. Or just activate the status ailment nerfing anyway because it's better safe than sorry and be prepared to win battles the hard way.
    2. You can squeeze a second or two out of your hero action if you jump near the end of the path.
    3. The amount of experience you get equals to the amount of damage you deal.
    4. You can miss throwing healing items at a teammate if they're too far away, at point blank range, or it's blocked by an enemy or a wall. They become dropped items that you can get back.

Charging multiplier for the handgun doesn't usually give you more damage, it gives you higher chance of gauge break and sometimes a little bit of extra damage too. Machine guns will always give damage multiplier which is really good because: the acceleration of the charge means that you're getting exponentially more damage, and more damage at the same time means that the enemy will have less time to heal. The effect of the charge is written right there and is affected by character's skills.

yhea i explained it wrong about that. But handguns actually do higher damage at charge x12 and x24 etc.

machinegun, portential break dmg to enemies hp. The outline hp bar is the armored layer of protection. Handgun, will direct hit any hp bar including armored layer.
Machinegun, usually this is used to weaken the armored part of the enemy or direct hp of the enemy. As it turn the hp green to blue. A direct hit from the handgun or grenades will instantly destroy their hp depending how much scratchdmg from the machinegun did. So potentially.
This game s so addictive if you work your combo so well. And 1shot a high thick hp level boss

I mostly understand the mechanics, I just suck with tactics. I'm only in chapter 1, and the first boss gave me hell. Trying to keep my characters from taking too much damage but also landing attacks is a real pain, and I've quickly learned that spamming hero actions can get you killed if you're stupid.

    • @shadowslayer64
      @shadowslayer64 5 лет назад +12

There's something that this video misses out on explaining. Using hero attack to navigate the Environment; at the beginning of the Ch. 1 boss fight there's a raised platform directly infront of the heroes. In hero attack mode use the jump command to position your character(s) on that platform and try to maintain a triangular formation so you can maximize the amount of resonance points earned to initiate tri-attacks.
You can also use the jump command in hero attack mode to jump over barriers/walls, enemies in your path and to maximize scratch damage from the machine gun so all body parts are affected. This game's combat is very complex but if you prioritize a triangle formation with hero attack mode for each character each turn you'll have many opportunities for the tri-attack which basically makes or breaks most of the battles.
It's really a great fecking rpg (mechanically) that sadly was overshadowed by the hype from FFXIII at the time. I'm dying for a sequel or spiritual successor to this kind of rpg.

Another aspect that the game and this video didn't touch on was the hero gauge gems which is probably another reason why you struggled with spamming hero actions.
As a quick disclaimer (I may not reference the things by their actual names in the game but hopefully my explanation will at least tell you how they work)
Hero attacks run off of resonance points but anything outside of a regular attack uses one of those orange gems at the bottom of the screen(I believe they're called Basel gems or something like that). Every time you use a hero action or a tri-attack one of those gems get used and if you use them all without replenishing them you go into critical mode, where everything can go to ishhhh super quick. [In critical mode all your gems shatter into pieces across the battlefield that the enemy can run around and pick up to not only heal themselves but keep you from putting your hero gauge back together. Your characters become slow, your attacks become weaker, and your options become way more limited until you either run around and reacquire the shards, putting the gems back together, or either destroy a body part or kill an enemy. And in critical mode both of those options are a heckuva lot harder to do.] Another way that you get put into critical mode is by letting enemies attack one of your characters until their bar fills in scratch and then gets attacked.
But just think of it like as long as you have gems you're Thanos with the infinity stones or you're in Hulk mode, but soon as you either don't replenish them from destroying body parts and enemies or dont heal scratch damage using an item b4 the bar is fully converted you become frail @$$ Bruce Banner. Lol.
(This video also didnt show how to use items but I've gotten pretty wordy as it is, so I'm a stick to what I'm talking about now and say you u should just watch another vid on that if you don't kno kno hownto already do that)
The only way to keep replenishing the gems that you use is to destroy an enemy body part or kill an enemy outright. Always prioritize that when planning a hero action or Tri-attack. Like the person above me said def use it to navigate the environment and exploit the enemy that is very important too, especially in boss fights, but you also always want to set yourself up to do one of those two things primarily whenever you use a hero action, if not for the current character your controlling then for the next bcuz you want to avoid critical mode like it's the plague. And you don't want to put yourself at risk of getting down to your last gem and not having a means to destroy a body part or enemy. I think you can also get a gem back by destroying drums. But if you get down to your last gem my advice is to inly use your machine gun user in normal mode, shoot in normal mode until you've scratched the nearest enemy pretty good. Even if you have to skip your other 2 character's turns once or twice to do that, trust me, you want to avoid critical mode as much as you can.
In most cases, unless you've killed most of the enemies already or have scratched most of their bars when this occurs, expect a game over. Inside a dungeon you remain in critical mode until you either exit the dungeon or pick up the gems after the fight.
And as far as the gems themselves you get new shards throughout the course of the game. Four shards make a new gem. You'll get some from doing side missions, some from those orange pulsing nodes on the map where you usually have a tough fight, stage boss fights.
There's def a lot to this game that can make it a lot easier or a crap ton harder. Weapon modding makes a world of difference in this game, leveling your character is done by leveling all your weapon types (handgun, machine gun, grenades) and your official level is your total for each, so when you accumulate a nice little stash of grenades or can farm the parts to make them from certain enemies you'll want to do that so you can up your grenade level. And you def want to swap your machine gun around to each character early until you get another one later. So many things that the game doesn't do a neccesarily great job of explaining. Dual-wielding once you get the guns. You can use two of the same weapons in unison, 2 machine guns or 2 handguns. You can have one of each but you have to swap them during the fight in order to use the other one. I spent a lot of time in the arena. Save a lot and grind hard in the arena as often as you can. The arena is where all the tutorials are but it also offers good money and good rewards if you grind for the items. (I'm talking too much. Lolz. Hope this all helps someone.)

I played the vanilla version back in the days. I remember the storyline being pointless garbage, only good for a few laughs. The main characters have personalities and even some character development along the game. Where this game shines is in it's combat system (+ lots of customization for your characters appearence for cool visuals) (and the musical transitions during combat depending on the actions). But the thing about the battles is you like it or hate it. There is no in between. So if anyone doesn't like the battlesystem I wouldn't recommend playing for the story. Just stay away from it then. lol

I'm super late here but still, somebody may come across this later and also be in a similar situation...
Cross had good advice too. Another part to touch on is the nodes scattered around the different levels on the map. Some offer like 1.5 exp or 1.5 item drop rate. One thing that really helps is using a specific colored hex and linking them all to the arena. Even if it's just exp and item drop rate to start since each node has a certain amount needed to activate it and the more nodes you tie the more it'll cost to activate them all. But a good thing to do is tie at least the exp bonus and item drop rate to the arena and grind in the arena using what Cross said to help level ur character up. Another thing that may help is doing a lot of modding to your weapons. If you do both, I'm sure it'll make worlds of difference in your fights.

I watched the basic attack section but I don't see it explaining how actually charge it. For example, if I hit X (attack), then it fills up to 1.0 and just sits there. If I try to time it so I hit X right when the circle completes, I just get 1.0x attack. I can't get 2x, 3x, 4x, etc, even though I have time left in my turn.
