I use only water and oil as well, and people look at me crazy as if to say “how is that possible?” From watching your videos; I’m a firm believer that it’s all about technique. Now that I have figured out the technique and a great maintenance routine and regimen that works for me, I’m never turning back to any products ever again; I’m a year and a month into my loc journey (glad I took time to learn this early on in my journey).
I cut my locs after 11 years because I started my love with gel and continued for majority of the period with wax. I wanted much healthier hair so I have started them back again and only using water and oil. Glad to have watched this video. It has just given me extra motivation for my journey
I use rose water mixed with vitamin e. I put a castor oil mix on my scalp. Pure castor oil is way too heavy. I also use a bamboo oil with coconut oil as a finishing spray. But that's it! Oil and water works well and it grows so fast.
I am 8 months loced on my first set ever. I have 78 locs and thought I may not have enough. I looove the thick look so hearing he has on only 40 locs and the look this FULL is amazing and inspiring. I may have to tr that idea of splitting the locs.
His locs are absolutely goals 🙏🏾 I’ve had mine for about 9 months now (very much in their teenage stage), so I’m still waiting for them to get some weight to them. Can’t wait for my locs to be at the 1 year mark!
Been really intrigued by this whole water only re-twist approach for several months now. Finally got my 3/4 year old locs done today with water only. My scalp feels so light and airy and I'm just realizing how sticky and kinda weighted they felt all this time when using gel. It's only been a day but I am fully converted to this approach. Simplicity is key. Sending love all the way from Kenya. Thaaaaaaaaaaanks!!!
Hey! Im trying the same thing! I'm also in Kenya! Its soooo unfortunate how such pressure there is here to use heavy holding products! Its almost like people look down on you, or don't think you care for your dreads property if you choose such a method! But in the end its about the health of our hair and not following the trends right!
@@LOL_bye I think a lot of stylists GENUINELY Don't know that there are other ways of doing locs than to use gel. Kinda like how not long ago there was no real knowledge of how to manage afro hair without a relaxer. I also think the excessive use of gels is coz people here tend to like the super shiny hair "done" look. But things will change as customers do, all in due time. Heck I went to a new stylist rhis time around to get my locs twisted with water only and he had no problem with it and even told me they do ACV rinses in the salon- I'm still shook! ..In other news, almost 2 weeks since my retwist and my hair is still holding up.. now I feel real stupid having build up from using gel all these years. Sigh. Ya live ya learn.
I absolutely love watching your videos, and just appreciate how informative and detailed you are. And Your husband's hair is flourishing beautifully. Love how he let's you take care of him. Btw, you do such amazing work! I can tell you see to it that whoever locs you're doing that it is HEALTHY. I started doing my honey's locs and told him no more wax or gel. I've been using only water and grape seed oil on his retwist, which his scalp and hair loves so far. His locs now feels and looks wayyy healthier and thicker... Well, thanks for the updates and for sharing with us, as well as many blessings to you and your family!
I use 50/50 rose water and vitamin E. I use wild growth oil once a week. I am 9 months in. So far so 👍 I try to retwist not so often because it hasn't been so long...I try to retwist every other month and wash once a month.
Thanks to your videos, I also retwist with oil and water only. I don't like the clips, so I two strand twist to hold them till they dry. (Or tuck them into four pony tails.) One year in and I'm learning love *ALL* aspects of my locs.
You have blessed hands sis!! You are amazing and my inspiration!! I am so happy your channel popped into my feed because I was undecided about doing my locs but your precise videos pushed me to pursue this journey!! Many Blessings to you!!💖💖💖🌅🌅🌅
So happy to have found your channel. I am looking into getting locs but really want to be minimal in the amount of products I use. Your channel along with Yannie the locologist is all that I need. Can’t wait to see your new loc journey 😃
His hair looks so beautiful and healthy man. I have never seen anyone's black textured hair look that natural and healthy. And yes. More body cams please.
I cut my locs off like 6 years back, after growing them for 7 years... now I’m 4 months into my new loc journey. I’ve only ever did and maintained my out hair but the time I’m learning so much and not using products besides oils and water
I never used wax or Gels in my neither... I started my locs April 12,2016 with two strand twist so it will be 3 years soon. my locs have grown so fast with just water and oil and I believe it's a much healthier way.
Good morning beautiful family. Love it! The body cam works for me. Many blessings from Florida. My Locs misses you lol. I’m so happy for you and your journey to success along with such an amazing supportive family. You deserve all your heart desires. Peace , Love & Natural Beauty
Beautiful Locs and I agree oil & water is all that's needed. That's all I've ever used on my hair ( I'm on my 3rd set of Locs) & l also keep my sista's hair groomed since she had locs & all I've ever use is oil & water. It makes the hair lite & full of body. We both receive complements on our hair.
When I get my dreads done I used Shea Butter and coconut oil melted so it’s blends together and then let it dry back up! But now I’m gonna start using moranga oil
I just did a braid out in my locs! 😍 My daughter (10 y/o) loves her locs but hates getting her hair washed and retwisted. 😩 She hates when I pull / separate the parts. Very tender headed. Anywho... His locs look amazing!
Same I only use a small amount of oil/glycerin mixed in water spray bottle. I interlock so I don’t need a lot product for hold in his hair. It’s the best thing. U really don’t need those products and it’s better for locs bc they stay cleaner.
I absolutely love your channels. You got me thinking I can start my loc journey on my own...except I am so afraid to START them by myself. I want to do it right from the start and not have regret about the size of my locs, the parting of my locs, etc. I know I don’t want perfectly parted locs that’s the only thing I’m sure of. With my hair being fine and thinning- will get worse as I move into menopause because of heredity- I’m unsure of the size my locs should be. I’ve had several races suggest locs to me as a style that fits my personality and face- I just need to stop overthinking 🙄🙄😟
I really enjoyed the video. You definitely have magic fingers 👍 thank you so much for sharing I really appreciate it. Your husbands hair is beautiful. 😊
im so mad at you! you never got back to me to start my locs last august! but i still want to get them braided now. im7 months in and being doing them myself. get back with me, i'm here in Orlando.
Great video. My question is, can oil and water work for my 4b/4c hair type. I am tied of using gel and wax both. I'm 2 months shy of being three years loc'd.
Alice Chitman his hair type looks like a 4... even if it’s not though, there’s tons of us on YT with 4c hair who only use oil & water. I bet you’d be able to find more folks and to start looking into which oils would be best for you
You probably aren't doing anything wrong! His genetics dictate the overall health and speed of his growth. His wife's quality care enhances his natural speedy growth
See my hair is so soft it’s constantly shrinking and afro’ing lol plus i workout daily I want to do crocheting bc im so tired of spending hrs retwisting just so a week later i have a afro 😩😩
Ok so basically I have blond straight hair and I’m white do you think it’s okay for me to get dreads like lil pump because I have box braids and I really want dreads would it be easy
Please give me advice. My hair is itching so bad..ive had weave for months, a quick weave til it flipped up. Why cant i wear my naturals hair comb coils? The product itching me so bad
Thatsss wild I used to have a random amount of dreads maybe like 70+, got them combined and decided on 40 locs! I feel like the volume isn't is nice there :/
I have to idea what to twist my lock with...I've stopped using gels...and the oils that I use does no moisturize my hair. I've tried using rose water...same effect. I suffer from dry scalp and dandruff even when I don't use any product or oil...I started using neem water so I'm monitoring this remedy still. I have 60 locs for 8yrs and I would like to join some. I wish it have persons in Grenada like you to help me with my journey. Any advice?
It seems like you are using good products the thing about the rose water is using vitamin e oil along with it and try the greenhouse effect method. Like use a steamer to steam your hair and then add the rose water with vitamin e and neem and put a plastic bag over it. That will keep and loc the moisture from the heat of the steamer. You will see your hair will be moisturize.
*Love it!! Thanks for sharing(new Subbie) I was just catching up on your blogs along with my youngest.Just showing him in detail about locs. Both of my sons have locs(6 mos & 1mo starter) Do you have the link for the moringa oil?*
I’ve seen a few vids (not all yours) where the person starts off with small locs then combines them later...is it better to do it that way if you want thicker locs or just start them off thick? Thanks.
The tips and information you provide are specific to your hair type. Please specifiy that. Becuase some one with low porous hair would not be able to follow this regimen.
He actually has low porosity hair lol. What I was trying to convey is that using only oils and water can work for any hair type....however, the oils used may vary from person to person bc everyone doesn’t have the same scalp or hair. For example some ppl can not use coconut oil because it irritates their scalp. Also, Low porous hair...(which he has)..wouldn’t benefit for heavy oils/sealing oils only. It would need light/penetrating oils.

That is so true.... I also use gel and my locs snapped because the gel hardened.
His idea of leaving the tips uncombined is a neat trick for volume retention. Braid out popping.
Well done!
That's so nice how well you take care of your husband beautiful locks
He is so blessed to have you as his queen. I love seeing a woman take care of and serve her husband.
I love, love, love close up videos of partings and locs.
Side note, he probably has the best lip shape of anyone I've ever seen.

Ok so basically I have blond straight hair and I’m white do you think it’s okay for me to get dreads like lil pump because I have box braids and I really want dreads would it be easy
How do you get the locs to stay in place after twisting? Even with clips mine twist back in the other direction
Should you wash every 2 weeks? I thought
Washing to often was not good!
Please give me advice. My hair is itching so bad..ive had weave for months, a quick weave til it flipped up. Why cant i wear my naturals hair comb coils? The product itching me so bad
How can I make my locs thicker, or do I just have to wait a little longer for them to get thicker on their own. I’m currently at 11 months

I would start with figuring out what porosity your hair is. High or low. That info will help choose the right products.
It seems like you are using good products the thing about the rose water is using vitamin e oil along with it and try the greenhouse effect method. Aloe vera is also good too. Anything with herbs is good you are on the right track. You just have to lock in the moisture.

reddred73 it’s better to start thick if that is what you want. Some ppl just change their minds after the hair has already locked.
Ok gotcha. Thanks!
Ur family got great hair
Hi my father is from Haiti
