The opinions presented do not necessarily reflect the opinions of FOBBV.
After spending almost 6 hours on the nest, Shadow graciously delivers a fish for Jackie, all the while being chased by a Sub-Adult in an apparent attempt at kleptoparasitism.
Kleptoparasitism - stealing food or prey from another animal. Young eagles (and let's be honest, Adults too!) do that a lot.
The visitors has a rugged, uneven wing feathers. This suggests they have only molted once and likely hatched in 2022.
There is no way to tell definitively whether this is Spirit or not, because Spirit was not banded. There is also no definitive research into whether adult would recognize their returning offspring. Territorial adults would likely treat them as intruders, even more so during the nesting season.
The best thing we could do is to determine whether the bird is of the appropriate age group, i.e. #CouldBeSpirit.
ℹ️Raptor Vocab 101: Aging🪶Juvenile = 1st year, Sub-Adult = between Juvenile & Adult, Immature = either Juvenile or Sub-Adult, Adult = Definitive plumage bit.ly/3tcOWHe
🥚Egg1 was laid 1/25 16:55 bit.ly/48OfNt5, Egg2 was laid 1/28 13:59 bit.ly/3OkpEi7, Egg3 was laid on 1/31 17:58 bit.ly/3SGTwb5 .
It is unlikely that the eggs will hatch at this point. We have no way of knowing why. It could be environmental, such as temperatures, humidity percentages, oxygen levels at high altitude, etc. It could be biological with something just being off at the time the eggs were created. It is very unlikely that either Jackie or Shadow are infertile since they have already had 2 sets of chicks together - in 2019 and 2022.
When eggs don’t hatch, Jackie and Shadow may start withdrawing from incubation eventually (they usually over incubate for several weeks, details can be found in our Activity Log). Withdrawal is always a process and it happens gradually with longer and longer breaks. Shadow may be a little bit more stubborn than Jackie (this is something we have observed in the past). Left unattended, the eggs may eventually be scavenged by ravens or other animals. The nest cameras are live 24/7/366 weather and maintenance permitting.

ℹResident Bald Eagle female: Jackie (unbanded) since September 2016. Estimated hatch year: 2012

Poor Jackie hasn't given up yet. 😢 Bless their little hearts 🥰
It's amazing how much snow they have endured. Maybe there is a blessing in this, that the eggs did not hatch, as it could have been a hard time for the little ones. In spite of all this, they are truly majestic soul mate birds.
I thought the same! Tiny hatchlings with all that snow and freezing temps
My thoughts have been leaning towards the infertile clutch was absolutely a blessing in disguise. Now, it is truly heartbreaking to see their dedication to these eggs 🥲
We don’t always understand but their is definitely a reason…..🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅 maybe next time Jackie & Shadow ❤️❤️🙏
you honestly don't think that God has given these eagles the ability to shelter their young during bad weather? Bald Eagles are found throughout the the continental US and Alaska!
@janetannerevans2320
"God" is a title and his name can be read in 2nd Enoch 20:3.
He arrives in a few months for Judgment Day
Everything is for a reason.
Enoch returned in 2017,the Tribulations are almost over.
You don't think baby eagles have ever been born during snow before?
Oh my the closeup of the ice and water beads on the feathers...such amazingly tough birds. Their persistent dedication to this clutch of eggs really is heartbreaking.
Brrrr!!🥶
Mmmmmm frozen fish!😊
Isn't it wonderful
If we took care of our earth as well as these eagles for their nests , their eggs and their chicks.., our earth would have a chance of surviving !
I love their LOVE. They are for us to behold. Let's not waste this. There's so much here. This is heavenly magical. The extraordinary is always heavenly. ❤️
There's our guy! The eggs may have been infertle, but they are staying warm! Bless those two.
💕
Myślę, że to pogoda sprawiła, że nie wykluły się młode, niesamowite orły 🦅🦅😘
@@benkag.8184no, eagles are most populous in Alaska so they are built for this weather.
I'll want to paint and sketch again the lovely pair❤
Brrrr! If the eagles are off long ,won't the cooll down and not hatch? 😢
Sud adult??🤔
My compliments to the camera operators- the nest closeups are fantastic! Loved the water beading on Shadow’s feathers. And who among us doesn’t sleep snug on a snow pillow?
lol. When he shows up for the first time, all dry, and she is covered in snow, the look on her face is priceless. Love these two.
Love when Jackie is chillin in the middle of her snow donut.
Thank you for putting these videos together.
A whole fish. Cool. So much snow, even now in the evening.
Its already spring, yet still looks winter.
Thanks Cali Condor for putting these videos together for us. We appreciate your work. 🙏👏🏻👏🏻
Poor Jackie and Shadow. The wildlife is hard. God's blessings to them and to their precious eggs. 😍❤️❤️

Absolutely 💯%
The sub-adult reminded me of someone with the urgent squees! 💖 Poor Shadow didn't get to eat the bluegill head today.
"Squeegal" Sure sounded and acted like Spirit while chasing Shadow with the fish ♥
❤❤❤❤ Shad's water/ice bling - like sequins on a starlet's gown at an award show 🌟🤩
I love Jackie & Shadow they are amazing love birds ,,, the dedication that these beautiful birds put into their unvaible eggs truly can teach humans a thing or 2 about being better parents to their own children ... these birds tough out extreme weather conditions and they don't give up too easy ... I know eventually they will know when the time is right to leave the nest completely all I know that next year will be a better year to raise some beautiful chicks ,,, sending prayers for Jackie & Shadow...🙏🏿🙏🏿🪺
I think many humans are awesome parents. That's why there are over 8 billion of us. We sacrifice for our kids for decades, eagles give the baby the boot and chase them away after a few months. 😅
@mygirldarby yes there's good parents all over the world and there's bad parents also... I think in the animal kingdom animals in general great parents too
Incorrect. The baby eaglettes fly away on their own volition, the parents don't give them the boot. Jackie & Shadow would have loved if Spirit would have stayed around longer (even though she was a HUGE pain in the a*s!) LOL! 😂
@gerin.6418
Oh, but she was a sweet lil pain in the a**!!!😂
@@mygirldarby My thoughts exactly
More snow today!? This might be my fave video of J&S ever. That opening scene was so sweet… J using snow as pillow, S flying in and them cocking their heads to the side in unison, the way they both start calling out and J getting snow in her mouth. Snowy scene accentuates all their behaviors. The zoom in of S(?) resting his head on the snow melted my heart. 💕 And those beads of melted snow were so perfect… reminds me of flat marbles. The snow bowl looks so perfect, even I want to sit in it!
It’s a challenge trying to get in or out of that nest bole with all that snow!
Bless this loving couple, I pray that their next mating results in eaglets for these 2. They so deserve some babies, they love each other so much and they love their eggs. ❤❤❤❤
Amazing how gow peaceful they are sleeping in the storm.
So quiet
Fish delivery, Thanks Cali Condor
Thanks for such a beautiful film of a day with Jackie & Shadow. All the details , zooming in on the ice & water drops, the snow pillow , communications between them & how they treat eachother just makes my heart swell ❤
We are lucky to witness such a devoted couple, must have the best Eagle des res in the State & it's really sad the eggs haven't hatched 2 years now. ~ Could it be environmental factors.
Must be a record time for sitting on eggs, or almost. Jackie & Shadow don't look sad, I expect they are just doing what comes naturally , slowly they will withdraw. Really hope next Season brings more family for them. Thanks @CC 😻🏴
Happy easter birdies
Ifeel for Jackie and shadow I feel for the I the freezing snow they are champs..
Than you may God bless them always Amen ❤❤❤
Beatiful~ just beautiful eagles ❣
I am so impressed with this camera. As far as I know it never goes down, never out of focus, never is the lens obscured, never bothered by weather. Business and home security cameras should be as good.
Thank you so much for sharing, i'm totally amazed at all the splendour of J&S, their dedication and love blows me away 🦅🦅🙏🙏🙏
Wow! That's one of the most beautiful sites I've seen and also a bit intimidating. Their love and dedication give me strength. ❤
Those powerful Talons fold so gently, the sharp beak becomes gentle rolling the eggs. This reminds me to be gentle with the powerful and sharp aspects of my personality.
Thank you for showing us these wonderful videos. As long as their on the nest I hope your still show us everything.
They are amazing birds. Soul mates. That snow is terrible, on those two , the little ones probably would not have made it, with the high winds an snow especially when they had to get out from under those warm feathers to eat.😢
yet they somehow survive in Alaska.
It's Spirit ! I feel it in my bones😂. Little klepto😂❤👍🏼
I think so too 💜
Yup! Think it's our sweet little darling Spirit coming around to harass poor mama Jackie!🤣🦅❤
😄😅😂🤣😭 (little klepto)!
They aer beautiful birds
Schön ❤❤
Wow~ she finished 🐟 from head to tail in 4 minutes!
Of course it’s Jackie in the nest all night! What a good mother she is! And Shadow-so attentive!
I actually had this on live feed when it occurred. I've never seen Jackie jump up so quickly and literally try to get that fish from under Shadows foot... Seems she was extra hungry! As always, mesmerizing. ❤ them!
They love each other. They are awesome soul mates.
Hurts my soul 😢 I love these two so much.
Unbelievable ❤
Shadow always looks so Snug & Cosey in the snow ❄️ lol They are lovely but Hardy birds! Bless the Dynamic Duo 🙏 🍀🦅🦅
Since I can’t make the chat times anymore, these diaries of their days mean more to me than ever, cuz to quote Aerosmith, ‘I don’t wanna miss a thing!”
Thanks, Cali … your cuts and editing of these DITL are always sooooo good! So thanks to these vids and the daily recap, which I dissect like it’s my final test in biology class, I still get my lovey-doviest parts of their day! You should see my rewind and scrolling progress, which I use to make myself some screens to see these two interacting!
the terrible spring snows. at least they stay together.
Thank you!
So so sad....but it is kinda warmer snuggled down in a nest...had those eggs been fertilized it would have been a really bad time to have hatchlings had the eggs been fertilized this weather and nestlings kinda risky it's been a really cold winter...and April is going out like a lion I heard...we are in for more storms and below freezing temps...brrrr.
Might have nothing to do with fertilization...
I think it has to do a lot with the weather and the altitude of the nest.
have you seen the Bald Eagles in Alaska?
One of the best ever videos. Thank you
Love these birds❤️❤️so faithful😊😊
Wow I know that Eagles gotta eat but watching that poor fish get eaten alive was pretty harsh . I always feel bad for the fish lol ( maybe because Im a ♓️
These two are the greatest. So much fun to watch. Their personalities are perfect for one another. It's like watching a well-written television show...like the ones so many years ago.
4:48....Covered "in diamonds". Such amazing birds❤❤❤❤
I love them thank you 🙏🏼🇨🇦❤️
Wow what a day for them ❄The snow was beautiful. Looked like they were thinking do I really want to tackle getting down in that hole. They stayed faithful though😂Thanks for the recap❤
Amazing
Thanks as always for the video & information, yeah, I'd like to think it could be Spirit, that was so much fun watching Spirit grow up & the love & teaching from Shadow & Jackie . Thank you for sharing this, Cali Condor & now it's April & hopefully the snowing will stop & we'll have a warm, sunny day!🙂
bhowe5162. I also think it's most likely Spirit not from what she Did--but what Jackie in response to the fly around of Nest Tree. Just after Mom sounded the Juv alert and (Spirit) dropped landing gear(briefly) to land--a change of Mind for our Daddy's L Girl and she decided not to land. But thru next group of minutes, Mom toned down TO some Soft Chirping, and absent alert call stuff, and She(J) even threw in single tone spaced out stuff--Something she would Definitely not do for a Marauding, food stealing Raven , Juv or Adult BE . But as many of us want to believe, J would like to see land and share a brief greeting for Her Grown Y Eagle fledgling whom She and We still believe resides in BBL forests. Thanks for Posting Cali.
☺@@michaelhalahan I agree, Thanks for your reply!
Unbelievable what weather they have had to del with
Love these majestic beauties ❤ 🦅
Thanks @CaliCondor 😄. I’d been watching all day on 3 different devices in 3 different rooms, but still managed to miss the excitement around the fish delivery 🤦♀️
Awesome ❤❤❤❤
Another lovely DITL of J&S, thank you Cali. I would not be surprised if that was Spirit. Her parents tried so hard to teach her the art of kleptoparasitism. Perhaps Shadow might still have an opportunity to have the nightshift but not tonight.
I loved his little honk right after his initial chortle when she wanted to get back on the eggs after dark.
@@LaurieFloodTeacher that honk! I had to rewind and make sure that it wasn’t in slo-mo!
Can you elaborate on Spirit and being taught kleptoparasitism? I wasn’t an observer of J&S when they were raising Spirit and I’m fascinated by the idea of their young being around. I also wondered if their offspring would have more of a tendency to try steal food from its parents, even years later, since it spent so much time getting food from them. Just a random thought.
@@TheEmaile I don't know that I could elaborate much on the training, except to say they spent time teaching her how to steal from them. Young eagles have to learn to hunt for themselves after they leave the nest. Survival depends upon stealing food for about the first year. I don't think they would return to their parents for food, especially since it seems that they don't recognize each other. You've seen how Jackie and Shadow chase off this young intruder that might be Spirit.
@@jacquicoder7160 thanks for elaborating! I didn’t know any of this. I’ll hopefully get to witness these moments for myself with J & S in the near future 🤞
This was truly a beautiful video 💕🦅! Thank you 😘!
Thanks for opening up my mind to our precious feathered friends.
Happy Easter fantastic Cali Condor 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Shadow, Whether or not you're being chased for the prey in your talons, if you wanna eat the head, and you gotta stay in flight, perhaps you should try eating on the go!
Thanx Cali for another breathtaking video in the daily lives of Jackie and Shadow (and possibly Spirit)!💞
At one point it seemed like Shadow was using the snow like a pillow while he rested on top of the eggs.
I'm hoping all the snow will make Jackie think it's mid-January, and maybe she'll lay another clutch...😂
When will this snow end ! They have endured so much bad weather. Sending them lots of ❤️
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 heartbreaking 😭😭😭😭 give up sweetie 😭😭😭
thank you for this!
So beautiful all this snow
So 😥 when are they going to realize that the 🥚🥚🥚are not getting to hatch? I am the determination of these two. Nothing stops them. They have brave rain, snow, wind and they still remain devoted to their 🪺.
It's instinctual. As their hormone levels drop they will naturally become less interested in incubating the eggs. It isn't something they "realize." They are just acting on instinct. Nature made them that way, otherwise they'd be sitting on those eggs forever. Eagles arent extremely smart and don't have the capacity to understand why they do what they do. Like most animals, they act on their instinctual and hormonal impulses.
Oh my gosh that's a crazy amount of snow.
Jackie et shadow ❤❤ mon cœur est avec vous deux
Oh Dear God please comfort these beauties. Praying for them to get warmer weather and the snow stop. Love these two😍😇
Yeeeeow! It makes me grimace to see Jackie start to chow down on a fish… when its tail is still moving…! 😬
They are magnificent!! I am amazed by the footage. Thank you!! Usually in nature if the animal loses babies, they will have more sooner. Is that the case with Eagles?
Hungry ravens.
They really want to have babies..... J&S works so hard. I felt bad watching being hopeless and unable to help because of Laws the Eagles are being protected. We can't even give the eagles even some roof. Since the nest was personally selected and made by J&S.
I like that they added labels on this video. I'm still fairly new here so I have trouble telling the two apart
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Shadow/
Jackie
I love how they “talk” to each other!
That’s enough snow already. Poor parents having to deal with it 😊😊
Какие они красивые.
If you notice Jackie is on the eggs way longer than Shadow. I think he knows the eggs are dead, but Jackie won't give up. I love that about her, and i love Shadow devotion to Jackie. But most of all i love how much they love and care fir each other. They are bonded by love for life.
Они разговаривают между собой. Это чудо.
07:46 What kind a Eagle Call is that? That is the first time I heard Jackie sound like a siren.
I believe that part was in a slower mode so we could see the sub adult! So that's why Jackie's vocals sounded different than normal alerts or chortles!!!
The nest is so perfect. Will they use it again?
user--4g. Most probably. if one notices , we see S doing a sort of Structural analysis on the Simba branch very end on his two landings this AM--bouncing up and down and pronouncing it lively ,full of Pine sap and good for at least one more yr of nest duty. This is part of a two eagle running the nest in Nest Yr function. Earlier in the Nest Season, he would come in and pick a spot (on main part of Simba branch and wack it with one he was carrying--to test it's "Give" under dynamic loading).
The nest always had a yearly maintenance by Humans. Is it possible they add a fake tree branch and fake leaves, to make sort of a roof, just to have weather protection from rain or snow or too much heat? So that in the next season, we will not see Jackie and Shadow buried in the snow?
Jackie's alarm going off😅
How log they'll oing to hatching eggs since the eggs not going to hatch into babies
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice he brought her alive breakfast lol
When are Jackie and Shadow gonna finally give up on these eggs that are over a month past due to hatch? I’d love nothing more than to see those eggs hatch. They have been such good parents. There comes a time when enough is enough.
❤❤❤
High Kuddos to the camera humans! Stunning and on point work. To our daily delight. 🤍
I wonder if Shadow has a brother? :)
If he does, I already have dibs on him! LOL! 😂
Woq-that is alot of snow
How in the worldcan anything hatch let alone survive this weather?
Oh he went and caught a fish for her. She was fussing a lot
