Lessons in Patience and Love from J&S, the Majestic Eagles I wanted to take a moment to share with you something truly special that has been unfolding in my life recently. It's about a pair of majestic eagles, affectionately named J&S, whose journey has been teaching me profound lessons in patience and love. From the moment I stumbled upon their nest, my fascination with these magnificent creatures grew by the day. I found myself drawn to their resilience, their grace, and their unwavering dedication to each other and their offspring. Observing J&S has become a daily ritual for me, almost a constant presence in my life. Whether I'm waking up in the morning, taking breaks at work, or winding down before bed, my thoughts often drift to them. Their nest has become a symbol of serenity in my hectic life, a reminder to pause and appreciate the beauty of the natural world.
So beautifully stated, for me it's the bond ,the (bond of love)talking to one another constantly, their chatter is unbelievable& devotion to their eggs unrelentless. I will miss them when they leave & my biggest hope is for babies next season .they are a remarkable team🦅🦅💙
I love your Dedication to Them❤️as they are so Dedicated to Each Other. You will have their Hearts as they’ve Truly Captured Ours. Especially Mine over the Last 2 years 🩷🦅🦅💙
So SAD.....she went trough the pain of labor like we do and now she suffers the loss like we do.....yet she shows more courage and strength than a lot of us do. Life has been so unfair to these two and yet they hang on to hope. May God Bless You next season with 3 healthy Eaglets.
I think they are having a hard time staying with the eggs but also having a hard time giving up. I believe nature is telling them it is time to move on but it's difficult to do. I have mixed emotions myself. On the one hand, it is time to move on but on the other hand I will miss seeing them at the nest and don't look forward to what could happen to the eggs. Thanks for the DITL video, Cali, as always much appreciated.
Don't be sad about the eggs they were not actually fertilized. The female will lay eggs regardless of whether or not the male mated with her during her fertile period. The eggs clearly were not fertilized so there never was a baby eaglet growing to begin with. It is sad that they treat all eggs as if they were fertilized especially as doting as they were on this nest. The past two winters have been brutal and tbh there is such a high risk of any newly hatched nestling succumbing to hypothermia remember how unfinished their nest was when she first laid the eggs it was large branches and huge gaps nothing soft and fluffy it was down to 14°F one of the nights there was at least four days of temps far below freezing Jackie was buried in the snow many many times ...it could have been the eggs were never fertilized or the weather was just too brutal. Don't be sad...but I agree with you I thought that same thought immediately hey it's too cold bring the eggs inside and do some candle lighting to check if the eggs are even fertilized check for heartbeat if there is a heartbeat incubate them and if it's past way past the would be hat hung dates thentaketheeggsoutta there.😊
@@gritskennedy5007no, they were fertilized. As someone said on chat, we don't know why they fail to hatch, but ravens have been seen taking out developed baby chicks, therefore they were fertilized.
stop please Worrying for nothing they made it already several times i tink their only playing with your feelings those 3 eggs brought succesfuly 3 little chicks eagles 🤣🤣 in another channel named Nature Love Birdlife Odiyssey there you will see Jackie & Shadow in 4th Video with the 3 Little eagles chicks fed with fish 🤣🤣😹😹
Although it is sad to not have chicks this year I have shifted towards being grateful that Jackie and Shadow are still here with us healthy and thriving. Our world is a nicer place with these two in it. They enrich our lives just by being here. ❤
A wonderful experience to watch these two when they're dedication it just makes me so sad that their eggs did not hatch I was hoping for a second clutch
It’s inevitable but I’ll feel even sadder when they completely withdraw from their eggs 😢 I truly hope that J&S are blessed with healthy, beautiful eaglets next year❤🙏🏼 So much love for them!
Yeah, I think they’re far less “heartbroken” than just ambivalent as to whether it’s worth minding the eggs any more. I think their instinct regarding unlatched eggs is similar to their location: territorial vs. affection. As the light changes and the weather warms up, I can imagine them wanting to roost more than nest.
Tears still come when watching them. So heartbreaking. They certainly do display their loving and caring attitude toward each other. Sometimes I have to go watch other videos with eaglet, to help cheer myself up. Thank you for the educational videos.
Oh how their hearts must be hurting. I pray next year they will have healthy egglet’s. Lord bless them, as they go through this grieving period. Thank you for posting the lives of Shadow and Jackie every day. I appreciate you.
Scene 1 - Loved it when she stretched her wings ~ Scene 2 - When she arrives at the nest and Shadow takes off. It would appear that she's wondering where he went. 3-27 awesome job by all the devoted commentators (or mods) love all the input and facts. these are 2 beautiful birds, such characters!! Definitely lessons on how to be devoted and patient. Very sad they won't have any babies... Will keep watching until they leave the nest for this year...
Thank you Cali for the beautiful video and story and dedication to everyone that brought these beautiful eagles to us I will miss them they brighten my day but so sad to maybe see them go amazing eagles❤❤😢😢
Thanks again, Cali Condor for all you show us in the day in the life & your observations. gosh the comment above is so true for how a lot of us feel, thank you for 'pinning' it and for all you share with us! 🤗
It's ok. All is well, Jackie and Shadow, their way and time. My spirit is with them. I want to thank all that make this observation possible. Observing life of Jackie and Shadow Learning and seeing up close Eagles lives culture, behavior, language, communication, habitat, environment. It is enlightening and humbling as a Homo sapien. 😊
The day approaches, Cali; “To everything there is a season” comes to mind. Letting go and moving on, whilst still looking backwards in remembrance of hopes for at least one eaglet - that is where I am now. Seeing the West End triplets helps assuage the sense of loss I might feel. Thanks again for your videos.
Where to start with this incredible video. First the sunrise over beautiful big bear valley was stunning. I loved how Shadow messes with the sticks to get Jackie to talk and then leave the nest for him. I loved how throughout the day, the sun leaves a warm glow on the nest and on the eagles. It's stunning to see these two how so committed they are to each other and to the nest. Thank you Cali.
They really did a great job on the nest this season. I think it looks better than it's ever had in the past.. a shame little eaglets won't experience it this year. But hopefully next year it's even better with a successful hatch!!
I can tell you that Jackie & Shadow truly shared the hard dedication it takes to be parents ,,humans can learn alot from these majestic eagles... they gave it their all, during harsh very freezing snowing weather,, Jackie would sit on her beautifu eggs for very long hours & Shadow also... these are the best parents of 2024 even tho their eggs are not viable they both demonstrated what true dedication it takes to be the best parents of all...i pray that these 2 beautiful majestic birds get blessed with 3 more eggs next year and that 2025 will be their very special year... I love you Jackie & Shadow for your hard work .... I'm so sorry that the 3 eggs are not viable ,,,I send you & Shadow lots of prayers that everything will work out for you both... sending lots of prayers & big hugsss🙏🙏🙏🤗🤗🤗
Qaulity! Can see 👀 i think both probably starting to realise just with flying off leaving nest longer etc..All an education for me.Still dedicated but think starting to realise but gradually!Maybe if Eggs got stolen & im not being horrible'Just guessing Maybe that help them move on & try next time! Only saying get stolen as eggs non viable & help the Dynamic Duo move on as its heartbreaking watching them not knowing no eaglets coming! Don't Google anything! Learning everything from these Qaulity videos 📹 Thanks God bless all 🍀🦅🦅
I have a feeling they're both slowly realising it's time to move on from the eggs. It'll be hard but they'll stick by each other as always and try again next year. They've done a great job on the nest, mother nature can be cruel at times ❤
As the beautiful eagles whom we all love start to retreat little by little from nest duty do they stick no pun intended together as they travel around great bear until next season or do they meet again next season? Hope I didn’t upset anyone! I love them and am curious to learn. ❤️❤️🦅🙏
7:53 Shadow’s snortle chortle is so expressive. I also think their instincts are starting to tell both J&S it’s time, but I think neither wants to leave the eggs to be scavenged. You could see the confusion when the ravens took Jackies’s first egg. They’ve defended and protected these eggs for almost two months … leaving them is hard. I love these two spirited eagles ❤️🦅🦅❤️
4:33 love and inspired by the devotion these 2 have for each other and their eggs. Everyone could learn so much about how to love each other.. who knew eagles had so much personality
I recall from last year after the egg didn’t hatch; watching them mate in hopes that there might be one last late season egg laid. It’s amazing how people (myself included) will hang onto the smallest of hopes long after reason says otherwise. Cognitive dissonance. Compartmentalization rationalizations. It’s fascinating to watch all these phenomena play out via the story of these two majestic birds. We affix all sorts of emotions and intentions and hopes onto them. When they are simply living as part of nature. Much more accepting of what happens as it would never ‘occur’ to do anything else. The real lesson I hope I take and carry from the experiences of watching their story, is to remain as present in each moment as nature always does. Following the rhythms of every day. Every hour. Every experience. Living in the now.
@@mygirldarby I know! That was my point!! They’d see the birds were mating after the eggs hadn’t hatched and that was just normal activity and it was the humans who saw it and in the comments were so hopeful well past when a second set might have come … that the mating would lead to a ‘second chance’ … again, projecting our hopes and dreams and wishes etc into birds just doing what is natural for them to do … it’s a very interesting ‘relationship’ to see during these videos and in the comments … and within myself!!
Jackie obviously calls to Shadow to let him know she needs a break and it's his turn on the nest. I can well imagine what they're saying to each other on the stick depot with the eggs unattended. Flirting!
If Jackie and Shadow are willing to cease caring for these non-viable eggs, there’s a small chance she could have another egg this season - and one with considerably greater odds of survival. THAT’s what’s REALLY worth hoping for. Sandy has pointed out that the weather in Big Bear is actually more comparable to Alaska than the rest of California - so the eagles’ reproductive prospects would be better served by waiting an additional 5 weeks, as the Alaskan eagles do.
Q: When will they figure out there's been a "difficulty" & get the nest ready for the next consummation? Do they kick `em out themselves? Fertilizing the undergrowth `round the tree? Or, do they call in a specialized "Waste Management Company?" ;- ]
They were checking out the “other” nest site. They have (in past) periodically attempted to build there but the sticks keep falling and are hard to place properly. I wonder what it means. 🤔
I don’t think it was a starting of leaving nest ,seems they were distracted by something in area yesterday….. BUT I pray they will start to pull away , it’s heart breaking 💔
I said that yesterday. Shadow can see Jackie is sad... He didn't know what to do, so he keeps bringing sticks and fish, hoping that will make her happy . It's breaking my heart. I think they had too many snow storms to contend with
Question, does the soft, fluff that the eggs it on manage to stay dry during the snow storms? Seems it would become damp as snow on surrounding big sticks melts. So much snow on and off this year. Wondered if that could affect their eggs...
Thank you for this video😊 I do so enjoy watching J&S interact and tend to there nest....just wish their eggs would hatch for their labor of being so tentative to them ❤😢
This is the first time I have watched the eagles nesting! I have watched hummers, the Cal- Berkeley Falcons and now J&S this is also first time not to see eggs hatch 😢 so my question to the avid watchers is “ will they abandon this nest until it’s time to try again and build a new one ? What happens with eagles?
Sad to know they are just waiting for their babies that aren’t going to happen this year. Hopefully next year they will be successful! It’s puzzling they don’t wait until later in the season to lay their eggs when it’s warmer and no long days of snow.
Unfortunately these eggs will most likely not be viable. The timeline for hatching has we believe come and gone. The process of incubation begins at the laying of the eggs, with each egg being 2-3 days apart. The incubation period usually takes roughly about 35 days, according to the date they were laid. At that time, there will be a “ pip watch” …watching and waiting for an eaglet to break out of the egg. However, 2-3 weeks ago the count was at 45 days and nothing happening. I’m not even sure how many days have passed since. Jackie and Shadow continue to incubate still. Perhaps they know more than we do but it would be quite a surprise! They have mated since and recently, but normally eagles have only one cycle of fertility, so it would seem that Jackie would not be able to lay more eggs this season. But we will continue to watch this funny, loving couple and pray for them! Who knows? 🙏🏻❤🦅🦅❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Cali! This is my last question How can you tell who is who? I have looked and looked for differences! Is the female a larger bird? I think I have learned that Jackie has the squeaky voice and Shadow more of a click chipping voice. All the work you have done has been woderful
Is it possible they had 1 egg too many, so that the eggs were not kept consistently warm. The blood rich patch on the chest which provides warmth to the eggs doesn't appear to be that big, and the eggs don't seem very small. Just wondering. These two are so special, its hard to see that they will have to give! 😢
Ravens or other animals will take care of getting rid of the eggs. Usually there is some bits of shell left and after some time the birds have in the past, come back to clean up the nest and sort of ready it for next year. It’s hard to watch but all part of the process and good for closure.
Ravens will probably eat them. They won't be replaced with new eggs. It is too late for Jackie to have more eggs this season. They will leave the eggs unattended for longer and longer periods and then they will get eaten, or they will just leave and thr eggs will decompose.
Any Babay eagles ? Hope springs eternal for vStoic Shawdow and Persistent MaMa Jackie,, Rutting for babies and parents. Dedicated MOMMY, daddy, & CHICKS. BRAVE and proud. .LOVE to an love 35/heart from amazing family, ....heart s.... xoxo💟💜💛❤❤
If they are still sitting I’m still believing for a miracle. That’s what miracles are…something that happens that wouldn’t. When they say non viable then I will believe it 🙏 until then I believe 🙏
It must feel like after a big shopping trip and then you constantly check your bank account until you realised that you have spend all your money on three fake diamonds, of cause this would make everybody very upset and grumpy. 😢
Those eggs have to be stone cold and starting to smell of decay. They keep bringing sticks to put on top of snow that accumulates on the edge of nest. Hard to overcome instinct to nest and abandon eggs.
У этой пары хоть раз птенцы были? Начала смотреть с прошлого года. Мне кажется что-то не так со здоровьем самца Тень. Я живу на Крайнем Севере, у нас в основном соколы, спокойно размножаются и в более холодном климате.
I watched what happened in 2023. Jackie left the eggs and the ravens took them. Poor Shadow csme back to find the eggs gone. He looked so heartbroken 💔. I know that it sounds crazy, but I don't care for Jackie as much. She's more uncaring.
I think you are misplacing your feelings about humans in your life onto these eagles. Eagles don't get "heart-broken." Shadow was an intruder who showed up at Jackie and her mate's nest several years ago and refused to leave. Jackie's mate was named Mr. B, and they had a beautiful baby named Stormy. Shadow showed up and Jackie, Mr. B, and even Stormy tried to chase him off for days. He was relentless and eventually Mr. B was forced to leave his family. Jackie had to accept Shadow as her new mate even though he was not her choice. So I don't really think you know Shadow's true nature. He is an eagle. They are not sweet, cuddly angels. Life is rough and they accept whatever happens and move on. They don't sit around depressed and heart-broken when eggs don't hatch. They very likely don't even know why they are sitting on eggs. It is just their instinct. BTW, Jackie has sat on these eggs 2/3 of the time since she laid them. Shadow only incubates for a few hours a day. You could easily make the case that Jackie "cares" more about the eggs than shadow since she does most of the work.
Anthropomorphic- like tendencies to attribute human thoughts and emotions to birds who certainly are not contemplating this experience in the same way as we might - for instance - in a pregnancy that goes wrong. Jackie ‘cares’ by helping to make that nest, by bonding with a partner, by sitting on that nest and tending to the eggs as best as she knows how … which seems to become more rounded out as she gets more and more experience. She ‘cares’ by innately understanding when the time has come to withdraw from the eggs. To stay away and let ‘nature take its course’ … There aren’t ‘good’ birds or bad’ ones. There brains are not like human brains. The method and amounts of comprehension are vastly different. They have instinctual habits and behaviors are all driven by the species attempts and ultimate goal of reproduction and continuation of their kind.
@mygirldarby You're correct. I know nothing about Eagles. However, I don't put much faith in being psychoanalysis by someone on Eaglecam. I have compassion for all life living beings. That's why I'm involved in supporting a woman's shelter. I took in Ukrainian refugees for a while. Actually, I think compassion is a good thing. Don't you wish that there was more of it in the world? Take the Israeli/Gaza "conflict" as an example. Fact be known, I don't care for raptors of any kind. I just found these interesting. Thank you for your view of someone you don't know. Says a lot about who you are
@@mygirldarby I loved your remarks, and thank you for sharing the specific history about Shadow pushing Jackie's original partner out of the nest. I didn't know this, and I was wondering why Mr. B gave up and left Jackie. I've been reading how Eagles mate for life, and stay together throughout. I'm really curious as to why Jackie didn't look for Mr. B, or why he didn't return. Was Shadow so overpowering and aggressive?

They’d see the birds were mating after the eggs hadn’t hatched and that was just normal activity and it was the humans who saw it and in the comments were so hopeful well past when a second set might have come … that the mating would lead to a ‘second chance’ … again, projecting our hopes and dreams and wishes etc into birds just doing what is natural for them to do … it’s a very interesting ‘relationship’ to see during these videos and in the comments … and within myself!!
I’m so sad they couldn’t have at least one eaglet out of this clutch. They such a devoted couple. 😢
Jackie obviously calls to Shadow to let him know she needs a break and it's his turn on the nest. I can well imagine what they're saying to each other on the stick depot with the eggs unattended. Flirting!
I'm saddened for J&S my❤ is Broken for them .
Jackie playing hard to get on that Snag tree! Shadow was trying but she wasn't having it!
I'm glad to see her still caring for those eggs. They had a rough long winter up there so hopefully the warmer weather coming will help the eggs hatch
The eggs will not hatch. They are non-viable.
Read the above info about the eggs 😔
They both care for the eggs, but it is far past the time they will hatch.
Like Shadow arriving with the rising Sun ☀
Thank you!!

10:30 This is sound they make is diffrent from the others I hear. Kind of a chortle. Are they agitated when they do this?
Jackie wants for shadow to spoil her and bring her a fish ,she is sad she feels it's taking to long. ..
May God bless them always Amen ❤❤..
I said that yesterday. Shadow can see Jackie is sad... He didn't know what to do, so he keeps bringing sticks and fish, hoping that will make her happy . It's breaking my heart.
I think they had too many snow storms to contend with
Please stop trying to humanize these birds.
Birds don't think like that. Jackie doesn't want to be "spoiled." It's natural for the male to bring fish when they are incubating eggs.
@@cajbafGet yourself a life😂
@cajbaf They are doing nothing wrong. And certainly not hurting anyone especially Jackie and Shadow SMDH
19:11:25 - 19:14:08 PRICELESS 🤍🤍
Question, does the soft, fluff that the eggs it on manage to stay dry during the snow storms? Seems it would become damp as snow on surrounding big sticks melts. So much snow on and off this year. Wondered if that could affect their eggs...
When will they finally leave the nest?
So do you think that they might set another clutch this year
Do they keep their nest???
I'm so sad for them😢, but I know God will take care of them. They have each other ❤❤
Thank you for this video😊 I do so enjoy watching J&S interact and tend to there nest....just wish their eggs would hatch for their labor of being so tentative to them ❤😢
If chickens can make friends among themselves and can grieve so can an eagle? 🦅
I am so sad to hear them cry
😢
They aren't "crying." That's the sounds they always make.
🥰 🦅🦅🦅🦅 🥰
Has it begun?
This is the first time I have watched the eagles nesting! I have watched hummers, the Cal- Berkeley Falcons and now J&S this is also first time not to see eggs hatch 😢 so my question to the avid watchers is “ will they abandon this nest until it’s time to try again and build a new one ? What happens with eagles?
Do eagles migrate, or do they stay in the vicinity of their nest?
I think Shadow us crying
Sad to know they are just waiting for their babies that aren’t going to happen this year. Hopefully next year they will be successful!
It’s puzzling they don’t wait until later in the season to lay their eggs when it’s warmer and no long days of snow.
Unbelievable that she is still sitting on those eggs...so sad
Is that a baby eagle trying to get out of his egg house
No. The eggs are not viable. There are no live babies in them.
This is too sad to watch for me. 😢 My ❤ breaks for them so. 💔
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Since these eggs did not hatch when Jackie and Shadow leave the nest how long will it be before they mate again ?
Is it possible they had 1 egg too many, so that the eggs were not kept consistently warm. The blood rich patch on the chest which provides warmth to the eggs doesn't appear to be that big, and the eggs don't seem very small. Just wondering. These two are so special, its hard to see that they will have to give! 😢
No, they just didn't fertilize, simple as that
No. A three egg clutch has an 87% chance of having at least one eaglet successfully fledged. It is good for thrm to have three eggs.
💞🤗😞
Do they stay together outside of mating season or do they just find each other again? Is it known?
Does anyone know what will happen to the eggs. Will they be pushed out or left. Couldn't they be replaced with viable eggs?
Ravens or other animals will take care of getting rid of the eggs. Usually there is some bits of shell left and after some time the birds have in the past, come back to clean up the nest and sort of ready it for next year. It’s hard to watch but all part of the process and good for closure.
Ravens will probably eat them. They won't be replaced with new eggs. It is too late for Jackie to have more eggs this season. They will leave the eggs unattended for longer and longer periods and then they will get eaten, or they will just leave and thr eggs will decompose.
It looks like Jackie had a broken middle talon on right claw??? That could make it harder to hold a 🐟
They will stop incubating when it‘s time for them I guess. ❤️🦅
Any Babay eagles ? Hope springs eternal for vStoic Shawdow and Persistent MaMa Jackie,, Rutting for babies and parents. Dedicated MOMMY, daddy, & CHICKS. BRAVE and proud. .LOVE to an love 35/heart from amazing family, ....heart s.... xoxo💟💜💛❤❤
No. No babies the eggs aren't going to hatch
If they are still sitting I’m still believing for a miracle. That’s what miracles are…something that happens that wouldn’t.
When they say non viable then I will believe it 🙏 until then I believe 🙏
@nancyculliton1540 Eggs are not viable, Unfortunately there will be no miracle, Past time for that.
And they have Already said dozens of times that the eggs are not "Viable "
It must feel like after a big shopping trip and then you constantly check your bank account until you realised that you have spend all your money on three fake diamonds, of cause this would make everybody very upset and grumpy. 😢
Those eggs have to be stone cold and starting to smell of decay. They keep bringing sticks to put on top of snow that accumulates on the edge of nest. Hard to overcome instinct to nest and abandon eggs.
😭😭😭😭 Sad For This
Do you think they'll try to lay some eggs again?
25:55
They started to withdraw and I have started to miss them already because I know my ENS will make me blue😢
🥹💔💔💔
Probably getting time to let go. They’ll have another chance
I watched what happened in 2023. Jackie left the eggs and the ravens took them. Poor Shadow csme back to find the eggs gone. He looked so heartbroken 💔. I know that it sounds crazy, but I don't care for Jackie as much. She's more uncaring.
Or she’s more experienced and knew, therefore left.
To stay away and let ‘nature take its course’ …
There aren’t ‘good’ birds or bad’ ones.
