  • The police chief of Uvalde schools was put on leave Wednesday, one day after Texas' top cop called the police response to Robb Elementary School an "abject failure." Uvalde's mayor responded with harsh words for the director of public safety.

This is where I feel a bit of guilt critiquing these cops, because I’m not in law enforcement. But, then my guilt goes away because I didn’t choose that for a profession. They did. They took a gun, a badge, an oath to protect. They didn’t. It really would have been much better if they told truth straight away. I mean, even then, they shouldn’t remain in law enforcement. But at least there wouldn’t be such intense anger.

I think cops that were there may want to move away. It’s such a small community, their credibility is kaput. Although, they did really well at slamming parents to the ground so there was virtually no one to help those babies. Trust me, parents and grandparents would have gone in. They may have died, but that’s better than surviving this. The cops didn’t do parents a favor there at all. Protecting one’s child is the number one thing on any parents list. Now they’re left with grief and rage. Not a good combination.

@@kathydittmer9659 Not just the US. The incompetence has gone viral. Canadians are just as horrified that no one went in when they could have. They just had active shooter training and, as much as they said they didn't have equipment, they had enough. The problem was, as a rep said during a press conference, they would have been shot.
The chief and rep. tried to say they weren't in charge, they didn't have equipment or weapons, and didn't know kids were still alive when there were indications like kids calling 911 and when they asked if there were kids that needed help to holler out and then the child was shot. They didn't want to engage the shooter. Someone else should have taken over, but the chief holds most of the blame. He was the one who was the commander.
Who has walkie-talkies that won't work in a building they are supposed to be looking after? They should have had better ones. This whole thing is disgusting. They were doing crowd control while hearing gun fire in a school. Their training said to go to the shooter and take them out. It said do not wait and if you are afraid of getting shot, then find another career.

Uvalde is one of many reasons I believe the US Department of Justice needs to maintain a national bad cop database of cops who have been fired, sanctioned or otherwise disciplined for civil rights infractions. If I can go online and see where the sex offenders live, I should be able to go online and see where bad cops are on patrol. This will help prevent bad cops who get fired from getting hired in another city.

First, as a firefighter and just to inform you, and to correct the record, a Halligan is nothing like an ax or a hook. It is a tool with a spike and flat head on one end and a crowbar on the other. The way it is used, you swing the spike into the door frame and another person uses a sledgehammer on the flat head, or you jab the crowbar end into the door jam and push on the halligan to force to door open. Secondly, about the radios not working, that is the 800-900Mhz digital radios for you. While the Feds are requiring all emergency services use these 800-900 Mhz digital radios ( that don't work in reinforced masonary building) the USFS doesn't use these radios. They still use the old UHF/VHF radio which work better than what the FCC mandates. Also I might add, that the feds know these radios don't work in reenforced building and they found out when OSHA and other federal agencies investigated the fatal Southwest Hotel fire in Houston that killed 4 HFD firefighters as well as compliants recieved as far back as 2004. No department like the 800-900 Mhz digital radios, but ( with the exception of the U.S. Forest Service) we are all required to use these. Also according to another news channel Arredondo is running for city council. This tells me that he is more interested in his campaign and the effect the shooting has on it than the victims. Arredondo, you screwed up, royally. By you saying you didn't think you were in command, shows your incompetance. By you saying you didn't order officers to delay, the videos show that you are a liar. Therefore, you have no business in city council or as police chief. You should never be in charge of anyone. In otherwords, Arredondo you need to resign. Finally, the state and federal investigators need to supponea the 911 tapes. Because all of the calls and any radio traffic would be recorded. Arredondo stated he was first onscene, well, the tapes will show if he is telling the truth on that. That is because when ems, fire or police go en route to a call or get on scene we all call in to dispatch to inform them and that traffic get recorded on tape. Those tapes will show who actually was first on scene.

Im not saying that its impossible to get into. Im just saying your not going to shoot the hinges and kick it in like you said. The door has to be pulled out not pushed in. A residential door can be kicked in because it sits on the inside of the frame not the outside like a commercial door. Its not going to pop pop and push. The guy who testified was making fun of the police chief because he was trying to unlock doors elsewhere in the school when they didn’t need a key for the room where the shooter was. Now ask yourself who was in those other rooms the police chief needed the keys for? Students and kids. 3 people in rm 109 were wounded when the gunman originally fired off his 100 rounds at the teachers and kids in rms 111 and 112. The bullets went through the walls. The chief didn’t want to kill anyone as they breached to get the kids. The keys became a problem when his master key didn’t open up those doors and delayed everything. Why didn’t those 91 officers say not a problem chief we have enough people here, we will break the classroom windows and get everyone pronto. That would have sped everything up. The cowards were DPS and the guy who’s testifying is covering up for them, it’s the DPS that are refusing to release body cameras and records and are being sued by the Senator under the freedom of information act.

@@lylarose2696 did.. did you just make excuses for them ? None of these ppl have clean hands but who are you to say that officers should have told the chief what to do. It was his job to lead them and when the time came he "didn't know" he was in charge. That man messed up big time.

@@marijbeach2554 then why are DPS refusing to release their records and body cameras? 91 DPS were on scene, what were they doing? Scratching their asses?

@@lylarose2696 doesn't the uvalde police department wear body cams also? Where's those videos? Its entirely possible that the troopers were told to stand down by the uvalde chief. If he couldn't handle it, he needed to pass the operation to another senior officer. The problem is, he didn't know he was in charge somehow. And didn't have his radio. Nothing will change the fact that that man was calling the shots.

Why the obsession with the doors? The classrooms had windows.
