Hi! I'm new to hermit crabs and while doing research I heard they can die pretty easy and i really dont want mine to die fast. I'm going to be watching your channel for now on because it really helps me with not only research but also more to understand hermit crabs. They are adorable and I can't wait to see them doing their activities!
Can you do a vid on how to make a hermit less shy and how to encourage it to change shells mine has been its same painted one since I got it and I’m getting worried
Can you please help me!!! My cat went inside my hermit crab enclosure and I thought my cat had done something to mango (hermies name) but then I remembered that it’s possible for him to be digging in the substrate right?? While moving the enclosure to a higher place I saw Mango in the bottom of enclosure buried… What should I do😢😕 I think he’s maybe molting?
Does the lid need to be COMPLETELY sealed can I have a glass screen lid and have a bit of gap around the edges of the lid between the top of the tank and the lid?
Hi! In another video you mentioned adding filters to your water tanks.... have you done this? what filter system did you use? I bought some lexan bins for my water tanks and submerged them int he substrate with a lexan retaining wall for easy removal without disturbing the substrate or risking it will collapse... (tanks: www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZJWG796/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_hT8.EbSGJZ9K2) I have plants zip tied to plastic craft mesh for them to climb on and bubblers but I was thinking a filter system might be a good idea since the volume of the tanks will be close to a gallon. have you got any good ideas about how to incorporate a filter? I definitely followed your video on DIY water tank setup with the tubing and air rocks and pump, so that's basically the setup I have and was just wondering if you'd tried to add a filter at some point. My daughter and I really like your crab videos. Thanks for being so informative, we are learning a lot!
I have a REALLY important question, im pretty sure that my hermit crabs have good humidity, and i know bc there is water and fog all over the sides of the tank, (i dont do it it happens on its own) so my tank is always wet, i think that means there is good humidity but i dont really know, could you please tell me what humidity is supposed to look like?
We just bought our first two crabs today. We have well water is this safe to mist right in the tank to help w/ humidity? Is this safe for the crabs to drink w/o adding drinking water conditioner or do we still need to add this product when giving them water to drink and misting?
I'm thinking about getting 2 hermit crabs. I'm probably going to use a 15 or 20 gallon tank. I was wondering if I should use the pps method or not and I also wanted some decoration ideas
Can you do a video on what u feed ur hermit crab? I am really lost my hermit crabs have some veggies and fruit rn but I heard they also need protein? do you know or have any brand s that u would recommend?
Hermits, Hounds, and Horses sorry I’ll try to clarify you know the tanks that you have the two glass doors? Well I was wondering if you know can you tell me where you can get a glass top for one I hope this will clear up some confusion
3 years later and this vid is still helping me lol
I like how her hermit crab was just chillin and crawling around in the background
Lol!

So glad that you are doing your research!
Hermit crabs can live to about 70 years with the right care.
@@bri3061 I think it's more like a max of around 30 years but still a long time none the less
Yeah I have been researching a ton too! She’s really helped!
How are your hermit crabs doing now?
My hermit crabs love being misted- it’s their favorite time of the day
Hey! Since it’s quarantine can you do more hermy diys
I love your videos,I have 5 crabs in a 40 gallon tank.
This video makes me feel sooooo much better, I am so worried about the humidity but know I don’t have much to worry.
Hey! I was wondering if you are doing another habitat review. I would love to know what I should upgrade. Thanks!
I agree
They are now monthly!
Super educational. You’re the best! Got some great ideas watching this
Glad it was helpful!
5:31 hermit crab in the back: ima chill here til I die
That was so much help! Thank you!
Glad to help!
I like how you explain on to take better care of hermit crabs and how to keep them most as well please make more videos I am new and have four of them
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Can you do a vid on how to make a hermit less shy and how to encourage it to change shells mine has been its same painted one since I got it and I’m getting worried
That is a great idea!
Dont use a painted that can carry toxins 😨 i use fresh shells my hermit crab is very big so i use shells form the beach alot
How about a warm-mist humidifier in close proximity and a connection through a hollow tube that may go inside
the tank. Works for my hermits
Hello I comment on a lot of hermit crab videos I love your channel a lot and you have inspired me to start my own hermit crab channel
Thanks! I'll have to check out your channel.
Hey I have 1 hermit crab in a big tank but i hope to get more crabs soon for her.
Thanks soooo much! I really needed this video!💗🙂
Yay!
Look into humidifiers that have humidity control. They have some nice digital ones with nice probes on amazon and other sites
Awesome info thx:)
If you’re misting, should you do that with saltwater or freshwater? Love your channel by the way! ❤️
Fresh, because salt will build up on the glass of the tank.
@@hermitshoundsandhorses9971 doesn’t freshwater create mold cause I had some problems with freshwater
Thank you so much I needed this
Do hermit crabs come out at night i got mine from Florida and the are always coming out at midnight is that normal
So is it fine to completely cover the top in plastic rap?
yes it’s better to try and use a glass cover or duck tape really anything to keep the lid as tight/closed as possible so the humidity can stay inside
but also leave a slight gap so they can still get a bit of air flow
Can you please help me!!!

Yes, you should leave a gap to allow for some air flow.

Great vid! Your advice is so helpful
Glad to help!
I’m so sorry I can’t post the video of my tank for you because RUclips isn’t working right also love your vids 💞
Great vid 👍

It sounds like it is probably humid. You can get a hydrometer to help you measure the exact humidity.
Thank you
Nice video
Thank you!
2 of my acurite hydrometer broke.. is it because of too much humidity? 😔😥
Which water to use to mist the crabs? Salt or fresh?
My hermit crabs love getting misted
Look at the Marine what is your MOS in DCW
We just bought our first two crabs today. We have well water is this safe to mist right in the tank to help w/ humidity? Is this safe for the crabs to drink w/o adding drinking water conditioner or do we still need to add this product when giving them water to drink and misting?
If the water is comparable to bottled water or filtered water I would say yes.
I have hermit crabs and live in Arizona with barely any humidity will I have to do any other techniques for humidity
You may need to do most or all of the methods shown in this video. Here in Florida it doesn't take much effort.
For temporary solution can I use a humidifier until I get the right stuff?
Yes, it's what I'm currently doing for my hermit crabs.
I'm thinking about getting 2 hermit crabs. I'm probably going to use a 15 or 20 gallon tank. I was wondering if I should use the pps method or not and I also wanted some decoration ideas
Personally I do not use the pps method and it works pretty well.
If my hermit crabs are mooting but there are no tunnel entries or no holes is that ok?
Yes
I accidentally gave my crab tap water will they be okay or will it kill them? It was only one time
Dylan 6731 if you just gave it to them then take it out.But if it was only once and you never do it again then your crab friends should be fine. :)
How often do you have to take out the hermit crabs to water the sand/eco earth substrate to keep it sand castle consistency?
If the humidity stays high enough, you shouldn't ever need to.
Can you do a video on what u feed ur hermit crab? I am really lost my hermit crabs have some veggies and fruit rn but I heard they also need protein? do you know or have any brand s that u would recommend?
I am hoping to cover that topic soon.
@@hermitshoundsandhorses9971 Ok thanks
Guys I need y'all to answer a very important question to me do they die for drinking tap water?
One of my crabs is a c. Rubuscens 😅
How big should my hermit tank be??
for how many hermits?
So no tap water what if it's well water
I don’t know if anyone will respond but is there any tanks that have the door to open and a glass top?
I am a little confused, can you explain?
Hermits, Hounds, and Horses sorry I’ll try to clarify you know the tanks that you have the two glass doors? Well I was wondering if you know can you tell me where you can get a glass top for one I hope this will clear up some confusion
I can’t get over 30
Love the vids I bought my hermit crabs two to three weeks ago. I put both of them in a 10 gallon tank. The PetSmart woman was helpful
me living in colorado
Remmey at the start tho
I stuck a humidifier in my tank
Cool! I have heard that they are either great or cause flooding for some people.
Hermits, Hounds, and Horses mine has been great and my crabs are nice and happy
