You are not allowed to through the ball out over the dead line. He just needed to kick it out, instead he through it over the line which resulted in a penalty that was closer. Heck, he could just have grounded the damn ball and they would have won the game.

Can someone explain the rule at the last clip ? Wouldn’t it result in 2 points for the other team ? And what would happened if he got tackled instead ?
Time was up, so any end in play (other than a penalty) would finish the game. They should have just touched the ball past their own line to end the game as it would have been a scrum. But he threw it out which is a penalty offence, and the kick is for 3 points so they lost the game
I’m not sure if there’s any way of scoring 2 points in union apart from converting a try? I know league is worth 2. If he got tackled in the try zone with the ball and grounded it it would be a 5 meter scrum, and as a result end the game. All he had to do was fall down or kick the ball out the back.
You can't deliberately throw the ball into touch/past dead ball line, so penalty. The first guy tried to kick it out, but was seemingly tackled in the process. Either him or the guy who threw it out could have touched the ball down. It'd be a scrum 5 to the opposition, but doubt they'd have had it given time was up.

You cannot deliberaty throw or hit the ball out of play. You can only kick the ball into touch or in this case dead-in-goal. You see yellow card for this sort of thing usually and possibly a penalty try but there is no way an official can say the other team would have scored in this particular incident.

You're not allowed to deliberately pass the ball out of play, the way to get rid of the ball out of play is to kick it. He could have just placed the ball down on his own line and the game would have been over but he decided to throw it out, giving the opposition team a much easier penalty kick that went on to win them the game.

You can kick, but you can’t deliberately throw.
You can't even run it back and press it down like that first player looked like he tried to do he should have just booted for touch.

What's the brain fade in the Waratahs clip about 1 minute in?
Score was level and they had a penalty. Instead of going for posts or kicking for the corner, 21 took a quick tap even though there were plenty of defenders covering.
@@georgetalbot109 Ya, that's what I suspected but for that to be one of Rugby's "stupidest brainfades" is laughable. Uploader must be scraping the bottom of the barrel if that's the case.

Flann Flynn they had the chance to win the game and without consulting anyone 21 just took the tap. No support whatsoever, and decided to chip it through with plenty defenders there; that’s a pretty stupid decision. Lote Tuqiri, the Waratahs captain refused to speak to him after the game for what he did.

Score is Montpellier 9 - 11 La Rochelle on the last play of the game. Montpellier get a penalty, which if they successfully kick, they will win the game 12-11. But they miss. La Rochelle only have to kick the ball off the field to end the game and win. Instead they throw it off the field instead, which is illegal. So Montpellier kick a penalty goal and win the game.

can someone explain on the final play -- did the referee award the penalty kick for Montpellier at the 22m? If so, why? I would think since the infraction was in-goal by the other team, the penalty should be on the 5m line.
@Ryan Leyland Actually it's on the 22 as Montpellier put the ball into the in goal area before the penalty offence.
The penalty was on the 22 because the restart would have been on the 22, not the five-yard line. So the penalty was given where the restart would have taken place, if the player had actually kicked the ball out and not thrown it out

Or simply put the ball on the ground. That would result in a scrum at 5 metres, but you can't start a new scrum after 80 minutes so that would be e been game over.

He threw it out and not allowed to deliberately do that as results in a penalty. He should have kicked it out or even touched it down as that would have been ‘No time’ or just final whistle as called now

Here's some of my rules I always used
1.Anything is acceptable until you are caught.
2.The ref is never right but don't argue the point.
3.In the try area always act like you got the try even if you know you didn't and it was held up.
4.Good sportsmanship is for bench warmers.
5.Mock the other team at all given opportunities.
Thank god you don't actually play for a professional team
