VaatiVidya Have you considered doing a video where you mop up a few other facts you haven't addressed in other smaller areas. "TerraMantis" has some very interesting ones if you're interested.
The entire point behind those "Groaning Trees" in the Shaded Woods is when you hit them they obviously groan and it distracts the enemies in the area and the enemies run to the tree and stand there letting you go through the area with ease. It's easily missed because the enemies are invisible. And most people just run through as quickly as possible because that area sucks harder than that vacuum on teletubbies.
Kevin5264 dude lol! That comment was made fucking awesome with the teletubby vacuum reference lol!!!! I was born in 89 and my baby sister was born in 94 so when I was probably 7 through 10 teletubbies dominated are tv lol! We had teletubby bead spreads and blankets and creepy ass teletubby stuffed toys! Couple years ago I thought about it and youtubed it and holy shit I couldn't believe how fucking creepy it was! I didnt remember it being that damn creepy!
***** This is their own fault for not trying to push the game toward the PS4/XB1, they chose the old console and stood by the decision by claiming the old machines still have potential to be unlocked, by that they meant the larger player base to make the most money and we are lazy.
***** Well if they really want to make money theyd bump up the graphics, patch it up nice and re-release it for the xbone and PS4. As id be 100% sure wed all buy it again even if theres the comp version, i could be wrong about that everyone loves the pc version.
***** there are so many games on consoles that have a good pure black lighting that works correctly in video games. and much darker tones than the ones found in dark souls 2.I think they took the darkness out because they may have just "changed their mind"
sean fish Major development companies don't just "change their mind." That old lighting system cost them money to make, and adding the new one cost money as well. It was a huge waste of work and time. They didn't just change it "cuz lol"
Huh, Dark Souls 2 had a thing for pigs. The debut of the porcine shield, the pigs in Majula, the truffle digging pig, the rare passive little guy. Weird
I found out the hard way. Hit the treeface closest to Vengarl 3 or 4 times before going to him. Got absolutely destroyed by 2 ghosts while talking to him. Would not recommend. 3/10
Plus all the lightning uses got nerfed, so if you want to re-enact Lord Gwyn Vs Ancient Dragons you have to bring a metric shit ton of herbs/water with you.
My disappointment with the lighting system being removed was lessened after a greater disappointment was learned...... that flame butterfly. You pretty much described my thoughts when I first spotted the item.
I just have to reply to this point. The Torch mechanic fails to be what people claim it to be. It does NOT prevent you from using a shield. It's actually a completely supurfluous concept for 3 reasons: 1) You can put a sword and a shield as 2 of your right hand options and just toggle between them. 2) Tower Shield, and similar "attack" shields, completely destroy the restriction. The Tower Shield has amazing block and a really good strike damage attack combo (And one of the best jumping attacks for pvp) Having a torch and a Tower Shield is how I handled all of the dark areas in my first playthrough. it's almost a non-mechanic if you think about your loadout for a bit. 3) Cast Light.
Definitely your best video in a while, at least from a writing standpoint. This is relatively speaking, you don't have a single video I would class as bad, this one just stands out as being very funny in a dry wit sort of way.
Gotta say Vaati, you're stepping up your game quite a bit with the quality of these videos. I love the humor you added and hope to see more of it in your non prepare to cry vidyas. I'm excited for the DLC and what you do with it, but am a bit scared to watch since I don't think I'll be able to get the DLC and the spoilers! Anyway fantastic job on this video!
Great video. Keep doing what works for you Vati. I know ENB sort of put you out on his last video, and as a fan of both ENB and You, just continue this style. You're lore videos got me hooked and really stuck deep in me. Good job
Know 9 out of 10. The only one I didn't know about was healing Fejia and taking off the other head. Wow that's got to be oversight by the developers. Fejia should die instantly instead of being invincible, kinda shows how sloppy Fromsoft were when play testing this game.
Nah. You can only hit Freja's two heads to hurt her, so it makes sense that once those weak spots are gone, you can't kill her. It doesn't seem like lazy play testing,,,,
morinthe It is lazy because killing that boss is mandatory to progress further. If it was deliberate then the balance in this game is deliberately broken as in the boss is impossible to kill. That isn't good game design .
slightlytwistedagain it was deliberate as she changes her attack pattern specifically if you do this, I forget if its a new move or just repeatedly doing her regular flail move. also its not unbalanced as you would have to HEAL the boss to do this or only use a really weak, un-upgraded weapon and you'd only do that to see if this happened. last note I found through THIS comments section, if you use a shield break weapon like the shotal's heavy attack the boss still takes damage, meaning that even if you did this for the specific reason of making the boss "unkillable" it can still be killed.
Vaati, whenever I see that you have released a new video I'm always so excited. Keep up the great effort in your videos dude. I can't wait for all your lore videos on the DLC as well :)
Nanouk_Pharos All ally NPCs have the AI of a broken controller. They have no aggressiveness at all. Lucatiel when you fight her is a bitch of a fighter.
Rainbow Dashtruction With that said, Masterless Glencour, Jester Thomas and Ashen Knight Boyd are pretty damn useful allies. They are extremely useful in the boss fights that you summoned them for, with Glencour and Body tanking all the attacks while Thomas unleah hell with his Pyromancy.
***** She represents a noble and heroic warrior succumbing to, which in her way represents age, the hollowing, desperate to save herself in a way that doesn't exist, and is hitting depression. How is that bad?
Hey Vaati, but cool little easter egg in the area that I noticed. After the fight with the Flexile Sentry you go up the a ladder and activate a navigation table to trigger the cutscene of the boat traveling to the Bastille. In the Lord's Private Chambers there's an exact replica of that navigation table, but in miniature form on his desk.
I think that my arachnophobia is getting weaker. First time through Tseldora I was a twitching, hesitant, frightened mess. And now I only get an occasional shudder of uncomfortableness.
Alright, you got me with the cutting off both heads. Damn you, I thought I finally had you this time. I spent way longer in Tseldora than I should've looking for hints about the Dragon so I knew tons about it and the areas beforehand, but I guess all the searching in the world won't let me find out you can cut Freja's head off.

Perhaps it's worth noting that the spiders that hang about Tseldora's have skulls on their husks. Maybe this is a reference to the golden skulltulas in Ocarina of Time?
no way i actually didnt know u could come back and do memories at freya! obviously i knew about normal ones after meeting the big dragon but god damn no not the one you just showed me! thank you good sir!

yea VaatiVidya show us your true love for the game and walk a pig on a 20 thousand year journey just to get him to eat some shroumes for a pickax (you think this to be a joke you are mistaken but i am voting against it)
you said about the lighting system yes i am disapointeed about them removing that this is why i am glad that on the pc you can get texture mods to make it so you do have to use a torch in most areas of the game which is great as it makes the game a lot harder i would recommend checking it out if you want to see more of what dark souls 2 could of looked like www.nexusmods.com/darksouls2/mods/25/?

Dávid Leblay you are correct it is a ENB that it was linked to i just was in a rush when writing the post so thanks for clearing that up for him but ye that plus GeDoSaTo and a few other mods really makes dark souls look amazing which is why i love the modding community so much they can bring out the true potential of a game
I can't wait for a new Prepare to Cry! Yes finally! Also, not sure if you'll ever get to read this Vaati, but would you ever continue making content on the first Souls game? My brother and I have come across a few details in the game playing it recently that we hoped you'd shed some light on.
red ball thing that you pick up to get great soul embraced message is at the spot where the rock/crystal forms which you use to access dragon memories and its also directly under the dragon skull.
VaatiVidya Thank you so much for your content so far! And for helping reinforce my love for Dark Souls to the point that I could win, most likely just this once :P
Vaati did you check out that new Shrine of Winter area in the primal bonfire room in The Rottens chamber? You can teleport to the starting area of the DLC through it, the only thing that's stopping you is a door that leads to whatever the DLC holds. It's also complete with a creepy and mysterious developer message!
i was very frustrated about the lightning effect in the game too... it would have been soo mutch more intense if you would have needed the torch too see in the dark. well its still my favorite rpg, and very nice video btw i have learn so new stuff! keep up the good work :D
Something I just found out. If you attack a wall that would be a Pharros illusionary wall, the weapon will go through the wall as apposed to bouncing off it.
This is without a doubt the most entertaining DaS2 video on the internet, just when I thought everyone had given up on the game. Keep it salty, keep it safe.
Last week I discovered something funny about the Creighton and Pate quest. When they are fighting and you hurt both but only kill Pate, the chest in the locked room has a trap bomb that if you don't hurt Creighton doesn't appear. After the bomb exploded there's a little line from Creighton that says something like "I hope that doesn't leave a scar he he he". This happened in NG+ I can't be the only one
Another thing that people might have missed. I'm not sure if its with all the covenants but if you are in the Blue Sentinel covenant and use the ring the icon next to your hp and stamina has pulsating animation.
Actually number 4 you can reflect more than just an axe, you can hit a fire bomb in the air and reflect it back to the enemy. I did it by accident but still funny. Im not sure about throwing knifes but i think maybe all throw able items can be reflected if you hit it proper timing
VaatiVidya: I don't know if anyone has said before, but for me I was able to get the lame flame butterfly by warping out and then warping back in, and then coming back into the boss area. The tree was gone and the butterfly was on the ground. I don't know if that still works, because I haven't done it since v 1.02, but it worked back then at least.
anvil on a stick woo! oh at that bit with the flame butterflies, there is a mod which brings back the darkness and upgrades the lighting, this makes a ton of areas pitch black, including huntsman corpse, most areas underground with no windows, basically any place without sun or torch is black.
I played the Dark souls 2 with my 24" CRT monitor. It has superb contrast and deepest black you will ever see. I had absolutely no problems with the brightness in game if I set up the slider correctly. Lucky me.
Same here. I enjoyed it the first two times, but I have had almost no desire to replay it. Whereas, with the first one, I have replayed it so many times. I've put over 300 hours into it. It's just that good.
#2 was cool, hated that area, but I thought it was neat when you'd take wild swings hoping to hit something that JUST hit you, only to smack a tree, hear it groan and call MORE barely there assailants to, well, assail you. Add to the fact that every direction looks like where you came from AND where you want to go, and this was one of the few awesome areas in DSII. Regarding the hidden Easter egg items... if only ANY of them were as decent as Dark Souls, mirite? Chop off a tail, body part, etc., get an awesome weapon! Dark Souls II? You get either A: nothing, or B: something useless. Can't wait to see more from you, Vaati. I subbed you back in March, just after finishing Dark Souls for the first time, so I had SO much content to swim through, every bit of it enjoyable. And, it even got me to look through your Demon's content and replay that game again, for the first time in years. So, waiting for more Dark Souls II content to trickle out is almost unbearable, haha. But I know it'll be well worth the wait.
What if the cute rare piggy is actually the reincarnation of Zinder, the Pig God? That's some deep lore. I'll leave it to you.
Just saw you on a penguinz0 video on spiderman, cool:)

I'm gonna leave a like for that little rant about the lightning system scam
Side note: As of patch 1.06, Gower's ring is getting nerfed and may be useless against Ancient Dragon.

I just have to reply to this point.
The Torch mechanic fails to be what people claim it to be. It does NOT prevent you from using a shield.
It's actually a completely supurfluous concept for 3 reasons:
1) You can put a sword and a shield as 2 of your right hand options and just toggle between them.
2) Tower Shield, and similar "attack" shields, completely destroy the restriction. Loved this, starting NG+ soon so I'll look forward to some of these next time around! Thank you, I love your videos.
Definitely your best video in a while, at least from a writing standpoint. This is relatively speaking, you don't have a single video I would class as bad, this one just stands out as being very funny in a dry wit sort of way.
Cheers man, I figure I should put a hell of a lot more effort into the writing of 10 things to make them stand out
VaatiVidya Question, are you aware of all the Top 10 secrets before you make the video, and what area will you be covering next?

morinthe It is lazy because killing that boss is mandatory to progress further. If it was deliberate then the balance in this game is deliberately broken as in the boss is impossible to kill. That isn't good game design .
slightlytwistedagain it was deliberate as she changes her attack pattern specifically if you do this, I forget if its a new move or just repeatedly doing her regular flail move.
also its not unbalanced as you would have to HEAL the boss to do this or only use a really weak, un-upgraded weapon and you'd only do that to see if this happened.
last note I found through THIS comments section, if you use a shield break weapon like the shotal's heavy attack the boss still takes damage, meaning that even if you did this for the specific reason of making the boss "unkillable" it can still be killed.
slightlytwistedagain The boss isn't mandatory, unless something has changed in DK2 since I last played through.
Genryu is correct on the mandatory part. One only needs 1million souls to get through the Shrine of Winter.
This is why I love you Vaati, still bringing up the lighting while also praising the DLC.
If you drop items in Majula they will appear floating in the dragon memory, I assume this is because of the shit world design.
Shoutout to the Lava Castle on top of a windmill.

Wow! I like how they put such a usefull ring in the area where everyone simply runs through :)
anyone else think this area looks worse than something you'd find in a first generation ps2 game?
No
People vastly exaggerate how good the PS2 looked. It looks about as good as the 3DS. Dark Souls 2 is a fuckload better then the 3DS could handle.
NO
check out drakenguard some time that whole area < Drakenguard.
MorroWolf Drakenguard wasn't 1st gen PS2, and while it looked good for the time, I still disagree.
that was a funny one :)

15chagO He called her "Quelaag 2.0" so it seemed like a joke.
He says "Quelaag 2.0" lol It was joke.
Didn't quite hear the 2.0 part! My bad folks!
More humorous than usual - I like it!
people still play dark souls 2?
Yea its a great game
I was wondering the same thing. I passed it and it got boring really fast. :(
yup playing throu as a diprived and as a champion covaonate meber
Whoa people like different things than you shocker right?
We never stopped.
So glad I never bothered with that tree in the Najka fight now, thanks Vaati
You earned your like ;)
That dragon memories stuff looks awesome, need to get there myself.
i was very frustrated about the lightning effect in the game too... it would have been soo mutch more intense if you would have needed the torch too see in the dark. well its still my favorite rpg, and very nice video btw i have learn so new stuff! keep up the good work :D
Something I just found out. If you attack a wall that would be a Pharros illusionary wall, the weapon will go through the wall as apposed to bouncing off it.
I love how you call Najka Queelag when she nocks down the tree.
No way I could ever dislike a vid of yours. This one was so fantastic.
Video quality is great!
As much as I love your videos, it still pains me to dislike it! Great video, Vaati, keep it up!
Looking forward to "Prepare to cry: Vengarl the Ferocious"... Or maybe "Lucatiel of Mirrah"? Whatever the case, I'm happy preparing to cry again!
First time I knew everything in one of your videos, Vaati.
*still presses like*
I always know the things you show, but I still like your videos because they are amazing
I enjoyed the light(ing) humor! Also, where did you get the anvil weapon, because I want it!
The pickaxe is actually pretty strong, but It has its own build, and sadly has a "wrong spot" mechanic
Very well made as always thanks for all the awesome content :)
7:20 ... It's been 6 years...
About the second fact, hitting the tree actually distract the invisible enemies in the area, allowing you to get away or to heal yourself.
First time I actually knew everything! Great video nontheless!
Damn, knew them all except the one where Freja attacks you early in NG+. I've never heard that one before.
(Recommendation) you should do shrine of amana! All about the singers, the humanity altar, finding vendricks armour and soul. I would love it.
Another thing that people might have missed. I'm not sure if its with all the covenants but if you are in the Blue Sentinel covenant and use the ring the icon next to your hp and stamina has pulsating animation.
You missed one thing about the trees in the shaded woods. They attract the shades, and the shades will hit the trees.
ohhh man!! the first prepare to cry for dark souls 2, i cant wait!! i cant believe enough time has passed already :)
For added information, when you hit the groaning trees it seems to attract or summon more ghosts.
Actually number 4 you can reflect more than just an axe, you can hit a fire bomb in the air and reflect it back to the enemy. I did it by accident but still funny. Im not sure about throwing knifes but i think maybe all throw able items can be reflected if you hit it proper timing
The 4K downscale patch/hack made this game beautiful.
Lucky me.
By the way. that friendly 1/1000 chance pig is actually meant to eat the mushrooms. It's much easier to get it down there.
Damnit, i almost knew everything! That thing about cutting Freya's head off got me D:
