    HIGH LEVEL SPECULATION AHOY: Darklurker is quite clearly Snuggly the Crow, deformed and buried. After accepting the Soul of Manus from the Chosen Undead, Snuggly became a thing of terrible power and subsumed Lordran in Dark such that all around him would be warm and soft.

    I'd like to know just how many times "Bearer. Seek. Seek. Lest." has been heard across everyone's games.
    I wonder if Lurker is a deliberate joke by From. He bears a really close resemblance to Pinwheel (big, hard hitting telegraphed attacks and splitting himself) but tuned to be actually quite challenging; its like they read about all the people wrecking Pinwheel and decided to make Pinwheel 2.0.

    Other things you missed:
    There's more to the butterfly set than just the wings, cuffs, and skirt. Burn another bonfire ascetic at the Majula bonfire, and Maughlin will sell you the hat (it boosts int by 2 and also poisons). Then you can pick up a butterfly shield in the chest above him, which is terrible at blocking but oddly good at poisoning stuff.
    You can invade other players in the dark chasm, and invasions there use different mechanics from invasions anywhere else. Just use either a red eye orb or red sign soapstone, but watch out because the mobs will still try to kill you. As will other, other invaders.
    Fire exploding zombies kill themselves when they blow up. Petrification and force ones do not.
    You know those giant hunting dogs in the gutter? You can parry their bite attack.

    • @DibbzTheLoner

      Weirdly enough, the petrification mummies are basically harmless.
      Their petrification build-up is so low that only a complete idiot could get hit enough times within a short time to get turned to stone, and their explosion deals like 1/5 the damage of regular mummy explosions...
      Mummy explosions are pretty easy to deal with, and once you get used to their timing it's a cake-walk to safely kill them with a melee swing as they're lunging at you.
      Though the thing I hate about the mummies is their melee swing - if they explode and then get up near you they'll take really slow harmless-looking swings at you, which somehow deal as much damage as their explosion does, except that they can combo their melee swings and kill you in 2-3 hits from full health.

    • @THETACOMAAAN

    If you didn't know, the area you fight the giant lord is the same exact place you fight the Purserure, because you find a head that has been rolled off a statue (as seen in the memory). • @wotwott2319
      @wotwott2319 8 лет назад +12

      +Matt Winner I do believe that Darklurker was a tribute to Tyreal. Remember how he was an angel of light in the shade of darkness? That's basically what darklurker resembles. he lurks within the dark to purge those who were bound by it so that they could find peace within light.

      Another reason why ds2 is considered the worst in the series. It was not enough that mechanically almost every boss in the vanilla version is super lazy & simple they had to rip-off other games as well. And this shitty boss is not even the only rip-off. There is a generic medusa, a jabba, a big demon, a generic dragon, a bigger generic dragon etc. Why was this game even created? It was so disappointing.

    • @omier
      @omier 10 лет назад +4

      For me he was the hardest boss in the game. I went from about 23 human effigies to 6. Ended up using melee on the first one and right when it split, I used chaos storm that got a lot of damage in. Did some more melee and once they ended up near each other and one of them was coming down from the laser attack, I chaos stormed again to kill. It was a frustrating experience, but the boss design was actually good and it was like the most rewarding boss kill feeling in DS2 for me.

  • @DavidVas0032
    @DavidVas0032 10 лет назад +6

    I haven't got up to the Darklurker yet but I have versed the Gargoyles of this game. Wow, that fight against them was amazing. I was slightly shocked when I started fighting two gargoyles but then another one came. I eventually got the point about the continuous gargoyles until 30 or 10 per cent where the last one finally enters. I will never forget that fifteen minute fight ever.

    • @DavidVas0032
      @DavidVas0032 10 лет назад +5

      You're supposed to attack one gargoyle in particular until it dies or else you will be swarmed with multiple gargoyles. I have a feeling you never noticed their individual health bars when you lock on to them. If you do do this, you will only have to fight a maximum of two gargoyles at any one time.

    • @DavidVas0032
      @DavidVas0032 10 лет назад +6

      Cocheta Mars No, they are triggered at different intervals of health (Total health) not by time. Git Gud

    • @DavidVas0032
      @DavidVas0032 10 лет назад

      Oh please. Once they reach one of the health break points, the next one comes in, right. But the amount of time a gargoyle takes to enter and start attacking you is really long. Probably 15 seconds at least. As if you can't deal the final blow to the gargoyle in a total of 15 seconds. There's also no need to call each other names, you've basically already done that in you're previous comments. Just look at the language you use, how depreciating.

    • @DavidVas0032
      @DavidVas0032 10 лет назад

      Cocheta Mars Why on Earth did you mention staggering the gargoyles. I specifically talked about their health breakpoints and the time it takes for them to enter and activate. Also, it may take them only 9 seconds for the gargoyle to enter but I was also including the time it takes for them to get to you and attack. Anyone in their right mind would not stay in one spot for that fight and especially not if the gargoyle enters to the side of them. Taking this into account, it probably would take 15 seconds. If you are referring to staggering the gargoyles due to reaching a certain point on the individual gargoyles health and not stunning with poise, then, well, I'm not sure what you are doing with a mace+2 for that matter but if you are trying to poise stun them, it is quiet easy. I was stunning the gargoyles with my 'scythe'(Not one of the other halberds) and it doesn't have that much of a great poise damage value. But still, I'm not quiet sure why you would want to stun the gargoyles.

    • @DavidVas0032
      @DavidVas0032 10 лет назад

      Cocheta Mars So what is your point? The damage type of the mace may be effective against the gargoyles but you won't be hitting big figures with a +2 mace. At least get it up to +4 or something and then before entering, buff it with an ooze. Also, may I ask what your stats and equipment is of this build you're using?

  • @MetaReapre
    @MetaReapre 10 лет назад +21

    The thrown Defenders I actually have no qualms about because they are very similar to Oristein and Smough, the only difference is the defenders are both melee with no range making it so if you solo them you have to wait for the perfect timing. I find that in this regard as long as you have patience, you can win. With the Darklurker however, depending on your luck (its been countless times for me) that the darklurker will zone you when split up and if your not a ranged character or you run out of spells, you are going to lose. I found the Darklurker so much more difficult because of this and it felt so unfair.

      @eppie899 10 лет назад +3

      I agree. I actually love the watcher and defender fight. The back peddling just made them more terrifying. They both slowly walk toward you, never stopping. It's very cool thematically. The dark lurker was overwhelming and seemed totally unpredictable when they split. I don't find the fight unfair until I realize I am low on effigies.

    The problem with the Throne boss encounter is that their moveset is very similar, too similar to work since they both are primarly melee fighters.
    I would rather compare the throne boss to Smough & Orns, both melee but one is fast and hard to keep vision on, while the other is quite slow but can get you off your guard really easy, and Smough&Ornstein still stand as my favorite boss encounter in all souls games because of this, that's my view of the argument.. Awesome vid as always Vaati!

    Vaati you should do a video with just 10 things from all the other places. For example if you dont go to Belfray Luna and go straight to the Sinners Rise you can see a Gargoyle flying and roaring at you as if its angry that you made it to Sinners Rise... and stuff like that...

    You're not meant to solo the Defender and Watcher. There's a reason they give you two NPC summon signs right outside. It's basically meant to be this awesome moment where you battle alongside the cool characters you've encountered while you played through the game. It's much more managable when Vengarl and Benhart are tanking the bosses as intended.

      except that the throne hounds agro you,and only you,untill they take 500+ damage from another source

    A little PvP advice:
    If your build has melee in it, the Black Knight Greatsword is a gem. A greatsword with a strong single handed stab attack with a 360 spinning slash if you press the strong attack again. Countless victories in PvP and invaders. They'll assume you're just swinging a big sword for damage and wide area coverage. Little do they know ;)

    i feel like the Last giant would be more aesthetically pleasing if the Giant Lord's sword was impaled through him, instead of that tree. By doing so, the link between the two would be much stronger, as well as adding a crueler, darker twist to the overall feel of the boss.

  • @SpacePirateLord
    @SpacePirateLord 10 лет назад

    Thanks a lot for the new missed stuff Vaati... I have a few things for you actually, if you are reading the comments that is. Did you know:
    Licia of Lindelt is in two places at once during one point in the game? Once you exhaust her dialogue she automatically also appears in the rotunda in Majula. If you walk back to the rotunda without hitting the bonfire she will be there... Then when you walk back to Heide's Tower of Flame, she will ALSO be there still. I discovered this on my No Bonfire run when I forgot the Pharros Lockstone in the mansion and walked all the way back from where Lucatiel is in No Man's Wharf to get it.
    There are actually enemies in the game with sound reason that still try to kill you? Most players find Soul Appease useless, but it's actually really good for more than just damaging Hollows... It's a good way to check what is and isn't Hollow. For instance, the Desert Sorceresses are not Hollow at all. They just really want to protect their mistress possibly.
    Nashandra has a line of dialogue that you cannot hear her say when you attack her while she's on the throne? "How very dare you..." The only way to hear it in-game is to use the Parrywalk glitch to clip over to where she is, then physically attack her up close.
    The Leydia Witches probably had an animation for opening their mouths and speaking or chanting at one point? If you sneak up on any of the Witches with their full face showing, position the camera, and clip through their model you can see that they have teeth modeled in. While we're on the subject, they also do have eyes, they're just jet black eyes (much like Agdayne's eyes, except without the red pupils).
    The Emerald Herald's hidden eye is a different color? It's purple. You can also use the camera to figure that out.
    A lot of Four Old Ones unutterable names used to be uttered? Two that I know of are Griff (The Rotten) and Ichorous Earth (The Old Iron King). The only one that still appears in the current game is Ichorous Earth, probably due to oversight or the fact they didn't want to remove that line of dialogue from Shalquior.
    Straid killed the Ancient Dragon found in the bottom of Brightstone Cove? While this is possibly not even still canonical, the Beta lore for Straid's Set stated this: "Straid was a sworn brother-in-arms of the ancient king of old Olaphis. Together, they slew the Ancient Dragon, and tasted of omniscience. However, even the renowned wisdom of Olaphis was not enough to control the peculiar magic birthed by his arts." There are hints that it's still canon however, namely the unnerving amount of knowledge Straid has about the world, and even about you and your destiny. Also, the memory of the Ancient Dragon does look like it was slain in some sort of battle.
    Like Dark Souls 1 there are probably quite a few non-Undead NPCs? Like Sieglinde of Catarina, there are a few NPCs in Dark Souls 2 that are not cursed. Notably Carhillion of the Fold, Rosabeth of Melfia, Benhart of Jugo, and Straid of Olaphis (with possibilities of others like Pate or Creighton). They display no tendencies of the curse (forgetfulness, loss of purpose, etc.) and at least three of them arrived in Drangleic through a different route from the player (Rosabeth, Carhillion, and possibly Benhart climbed the mountains to get there). Rosabeth herself also states that she almost died many times on the journey there, but she does not say she ever HAS died. All of these characters have actual reasons for being in Drangleic. They are not following a cursed path, "without really knowing why." Straid also likes to differentiate himself from you by calling you Cursed One, implying that he himself has nary the taint of the curse. He also suffers no loss of memory, although that could be from his "omniscience."
    At one point in the development all red NPC invaders were named "Nameless Usurper?" Seriously, everyone just wanted in on the Throne. Now only Licia has the honor of being called this.
    You can actively see all the areas you can get to within Earthen Peak from Harvest Valley? Seriously, you can even see the two loot-able corpses from far away with a pair of binoculars. It's the only real way of letting the player know that somewhere in the Peak is a hidden wall leading to an outside balcony. While we're on the subject...
    You can see the jail cells from below if you look at the sky from the dock of the Lost Bastille? It's actually a pretty laughable moment, when you look up and see a floating stage connected in an impossible manner. Speaking of lazy modeling and lighting... You can also look below from on top of Earthen Peak and see a giant yellow circle of light where the lighting for the Sunlight Altar is positioned.
    There's a special attack plunging animation on giant enemies like in Dark Souls 1? It's really hard to get into the perfect situation, but both the larger Giants (the ones with two clubs that are actually gigantic) and the Primal Knights have this animation. The Memory of Orro is one of the best places to test this out. If you're lucky you can get a good plunging attack on the giant in the main courtyard (generally from where the archers are positioned).
    The unarmed Amana Priestesses will just stand still like a statue and not react to the player if you permanently kill off the Archdrake Priests they heal? They will move again if you attack them, but per usual they have no way of attacking you back. Speaking of which...
    If you cast Scraps of Life on an Amana Shrine Priestess and it doesn't kill her... Once she is thrown up into the air, she will land and never get up again? She will glitch out and remain lying on the ground. Even better, you can target her still but for some odd reason she will be invincible. While she is still alive and target-able, you will now never be able to kill her unless you reset at a bonfire.
    I hope you found these interesting, and at least one or two of them you didn't know.

    I think most people know this, but in the put if you go straight and turn right after the first cat enemy and follow that path to its end you can jump to the nearest platform which can get you to the outer part of the fog gate leading to the ladders down to the next area. Its basically gets you there the same way if you go through the area normally but cuts out a huge chunk of it. This is something I tried in NG+ after failing on my first track through to bypass the invasions I was constantly getting. You can run past the few enemies you do come across and feels faster then doing the zip line though you won't come across many items.

    About the Darklurker. When you are in Shrine of Amana, if you go to the last last area where a Milfanito is sitting by a shrine, the shrine looks the same as the ones you use to enter the Dark Chasm of Old. (ruined versions) However, if you check the the bodies inside the shrine (the one beside the Milfanito ) they actually look like the Darklurker (or split Darklurker), both having four arms. Kinda makes you wonder since the same shrine gives you back your humanity if you don't have any human effigies left.

      I actually like quick travel, but I feel like they designed the world around it too much. I miss Dark Souls' gigantic sphere like level design where everything looped around on each other. Discovering the elevator linking Firelink to the Undead Parish was fucking amazing.

    • @gimpdoctor8362
      @gimpdoctor8362 10 лет назад +6

      I think they made drangleic perfect for the fast travel system EXCEPT you shouldn't be able to warp to any bonfire, just the first bonfire in each area. Then it would be fine. Maybe take out a few bullshit bonfires like the first one in the undead crypt right after the elevator. That's an occasion in the game where you light a bonfire, go down a lift, light another bonfire... it's bullshit.
      Bloodborne is going to be great because we'll again be able to see Miyazaki's amazing artistic vision unfold within it. There are too many occasions in DS2 where I think "no fucking way miyazaki would have allowed that"

    • @BaneDane_JB
      @BaneDane_JB 10 лет назад +4

      Ben Nutley That bonfire is actually there so you have easy access to the shrine of the dead (for those who used up ALL their effigies for some reason) whilst the one down the elevator is just there for the convenience of not having to go ALL the way down the elevator again (annoying Anor Londo elevator comes to mind) I actually think it was well designed and there aren't any enemies between the two.
      I do think, However, the bonfires as a whole where WAY too forgiving compared to DS 1

    #6 made me sad for the same reason, as did cutting off the Rotten's arm, among other things. If that quality... that attention to detail... that sheer awesomeness of Dark Souls was the least bit present in Dark Souls II, we would have gotten weapons, for sure.
    That said, Darklurker really was a well designed fight. And, it makes me wish there were a lot more like this in the game.

    I hate the last boss fight in Dark Souls II. I didn't get the same feeling as I did when I first fought Lord Gwyn in the first Dark Souls. It was an iconic boss fight. I knew why I was there and I knew I why I had to kill Lord Gwyn..however with Nashandra, I didn't know who she was...just another random boss.

    Interesting way to look at Darklurker. I never really bothered noticing much about him. Killed it on the second try because the game pretty much got me into the habit of casting Chaos Storm whenever there's more than one enemy in a boss room.

      If you parry the non-rusted Mastodons (a.k.a. Primal Knights) in the castle they sit down and never get back up, even if you hit them...
      Which is weird considering the Rusted ones in the Doors of Pharros do get up after being parried.

    I could not agree more about the Darklurker vs. the Guardians. The guardians I hardly even noticed because having summons made them next to trivial. The darklurker I never beat because I ran out of humanities, but I knew I would get it eventually with enough tries. And I like that it's a combination of sorcery, hexes, and pyromancy; that's awesome. Also, it's weird to me that you never saw the Emerald Herald kick her legs! She did that A LOT in my game, like I would say almost half the time.

    Dark lurker is definitely a good boss but unfortunately it's just one of 9 gank bosses in the game and frankly really the only good one, I really enjoy the game but these were some of the worst bosses that could have ever made it into a souls game. It's even worse than the 3x recycled asylum demon of DS1 thankfully ds3 had exactly one recycled boss and one gank boss one of which was far too easy and the other was actually a really refreshing take on Gundyr.

    • @M0mentum11
      @M0mentum11 8 лет назад +1

      +Sir Alonne crystal sage is kinda iffy as a gank boss since you can easily ignore all the clones and abyss watchers is a lot like Dark Lurker in that it's ganking phase is unique and well designed. Also the main fight with the abyss watcher isn't really a gank in my opinion since the first phase is easy and the second phase is the main part of the fight. My main point was the banks in dark souls 2 felt lazy the one boss fight I consider a gank was bad in that it was too easy but it didn't feel like a rushed boss they tried something new and just got the balancing of the fight wrong. Don't get me wrong Dark Souls 2 was great fun to play it was my least favourite souls game but I still love it but the gank bosses were just way too frequent and I don't like gank bosses they're not fun to me. I prefer a game like DS3 with fewer bosses that are for the most part really unique and interesting to fight.

    Wow.... I think the dark lurker is one of the worst bosses in the hole game, along with royal rat authority, simply the fact that you have to pay 1 human effigy for every try completely destroys this boss. He is nearly impossible for pure melee and I could only defeat him with a flame swathe when he split.... Which was a one hit... Throne watched and defender were pretty easy though. I first tried them in NG and NG+.... dark lurker on the other hand took me more than 15 tries until I pyro nuked him.....

    • @ZotTheWise
      @ZotTheWise 10 лет назад +12

      Impossible to melee? What? I defeated Darklurker with nothing but a fire infused greatclub. I never use magic. I'd much rather deal with slow, laughably easy to roll through attacks at close range than try to dodge a barrage of tracking/AoE spells.

    • @TheSillyMuffin
      @TheSillyMuffin 10 лет назад +13

      Hell, I defeated him with some normal katanas. It's not like the magic is fast. It's slow and predictable. Meanwhile, a lot of the other multiple enemy bosses have fast spells or completely unpredictable fast slashes and dash attacks.

      Haven't beaten this boss yet. I thin it was mostly the fear of losing human effigies that mad me not do very well. also could not do much damage. After almost 10 tries, i think, went to NG+ instead and now i have flame weapon spell and 95 effigies so it should be easier. My character is mele with some pyromancies but i try not to use pyromancy other than flame weapon. Probably gonna use fire black knight halbert with flame weapon or something like that.

    Darklurker really isn't good design. Easy boss made difficult just by adding another one. Just like how they made Shrine of Amana an annoying area into a frustrating area in new game + by adding more enemies.

    • @luckygozer
      @luckygozer 10 лет назад

      So ornstein and smough is not a good fight either because just one of them would not be so hard?
      Having a boss fight where there are multiple bosses is a legit type of boss fight. The boss itself doesn't have to be hard but the combination of them can be what makes it into a difficult and intresting fight.
      And darklurker is designed kind of similar to the bell gargoyles from dks1
      Allowing you to fight one of them before suddenly ramping up the difficulty by adding a second one
      However i do feel that they didn't quite get the ramp up of difficulty that they wanted since most players will probably fight him quite late
      Aswell as simply getting to him is a hassle in and of itself

    • @RAWchaosify
      @RAWchaosify 10 лет назад +1

      luckygozer Ornstein and Smough are a different case as they are two different enemies with little range attacks, the only ranged attack i can think of is Ornstein's lightning spear which is easy to dodge. Also, Ornstein and Smough compliment each other. Unless he charges at you with his hammer, smough is extremely slow. This allows you to get far away from him to that Ornstein and charge at you allowing you to attack him before Smough catches up and put you back on the defensive. They are two different enemies that compliment each other. Two Darklurkers don't compliment each other. They just make the fight hectic so that you don't have a good chance to attack as they both are usually going to be on opposite sides of the room so that one of them is always going to be attacking you with ranged attack which are significantly more dangerous. And if you try and get them close together you still have to deal with two enemies attacking you at once. There is also a good possibility that will just warp to opposite sides of the room.
      As for the Bell Gargoyles comparison, I also think that is incorrect. The two bellgargoyles difficult is the surprise when you are attacking one of them and a second one comes out of know where and hits you. If you die, you are know more prepared for the fight because you know that there is going to be two of them. With Darklurker you most likely will be looking at him when he splits so neither of them are going to catch you off guard. Not to mention the Gargoyle's move set is fairly simple and easy to dodge even if there is two of them. Darklurker's is an easy move set made difficult by adding two of the same move set. I think it's quite different.
      And once again I write a mock essay when trying to express my opinion. -_-

    • @RAWchaosify
      @RAWchaosify 10 лет назад +1

      HeavyArtillery6 I would care to disagree. I think there are some well designed bosses. Granted none of them are as well designed as say Artorias form the DS1 dlc but none reach the levels of bad game design that is Bed of Chaos or Dragon God. The ability to warp between bonfires straight of the bat helps the game keep things moving at a steady pace. How they handled new game + I think was step in the right direction but they needed to handle differently. Not to mention the balancing of weapons and the like. Almost everything feels useful in this game whereas in DS1 I found Dex weapons were much better than strength weapons and found that Halberd class weapons were just extremely good if used properly. So to say that there is nothing good in this game is a little far fetched. Granted though I still think DS1 is a better game but DS2 isn't necessarily bad, just not as good.

      Of course something is easy if you go on ahead and use the strat to kill him easily and use the element he is the weakest, that's going easy mode on it and not really having his entire challenge, not sure you should base off a boss from an easy mode strat, try going pure melee without buffs and without reading an online guide(stating this since it's basically the same copy paste strat that it's on any forum).

    Watcher/Defender wasn't the best boss fight but it was a hell of a lot better than Darklurker. I completely disagree with you about the memorizing patterns being the best part of boss fights, I like it when bosses do things that are unpredictable. It makes the fight feel more real and less like I'm defeating a computer program. The darklurker fight is just about camera positioning which is annoying to be messing around with while avoiding a bunch of magic that has a huge radius. Just a tedious fight for me.

Bc it was a real challenge. After that I learned the game system and style so rest bosses were not so difficul, but with Darklurker I got that feeling again and when I won her/him, best feeling from any game. I just had to start all over to get to that again!
