These are great! Only thing I'd add is, like for the headset and bottom bracket, check for play in the hubs. Uppermost in my mind as I've just had to give the rear hub on my MTB some love and attention. More from Jim please!
I am really liking your vids on bike structures and dynamics to teaching how to maintain your personal bike. I have to buy a bike for my Senior Self. I feel like I am more savvy about how to walk in a bike shop now to look around. Plus wishing you Blessings from USA and a safe ride in the wilderness 🙏🌍
Another excellent video! Would have been good to demonstrate use of a chain wear gauge when discussing that check in this video and the fact that most old/cheap ones do not work so well for 11/12 speed chains. IMHO kit to carry should be a separate video as there are too many points to cover in end comments - f.ex CO2 alternative option, if you are running tubeless, compatible sealant and a tyre plugger is good to carry.
It is normal for the UK though I don't think there's legislation stopping you having them whatever way round you like. It's actually the same as a motorbike because clutch will be on the left with back brake on the foot pedal. You can try remember it by knowing front brake lever is closest to the middle of the road. We drive on the left, so the right side is in the middle of the road and is the front brake. In the US it's reversed, drive on the right, left side is in the middle of the road, front brake on the left. 👍
Really enjoying these maintenance series. Thank you Jim and David for putting these together.
Glad you've enjoyed them BTcycle, the feedback has been great so keen to do more - sure there are plenty of topics to cover
really solid, useful and systematic. Much appreciated

Great video! You covered a lot there in a short space! Should be required viewing for all newbies and quite a few old hands too!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Jim and sunny regards from Ciechocinek, Poland 🙂🙋♂️.

New subscribers here. I hope find this this channel sooner
I like to clean the whole bike as my first step, and inspect as I do this. Dirt can hide wear or damage a lot of the time!
Yep, dead right
Excellent Review!!!
thanks a lot, it was very helpf for me
You missed a Multitool Jim, I would regard that as one of your minimum repair essentials for the bag. ;-)
Yep. Good point 👍

Front brake on the right lever?

🤔 Hi, why is I don't see David here anymore?
Somebody has to be behind the camera, but don't worry I'm still here :)
