Thanks for this. Very useful. Following the M is very useful indeed. I just ordered a Bike maintenance and repair book and a Bike tool kit. Will save me money in the long run as it was £40 to get my headset bearings replaced recently and now my rear wheel has started wobbling 😢

totally agree abt the chain, its not always something a chain checker can detect as u saw. 1 of i've owned my bike for only 2years, the prev 2 owners owned it for 2 1/2 years in totality. i've changed the chain 2x since i owned it!
If you live in a city, get a lot of experience and knowledge, and can be a good salesman working in a bike shop is a pretty fun job. I believe it was the son's first job in The Andy Griffith Show.

I would've liked to see what kind of lubricant you use for your chain.
I always find that we have to replace both chain and cassette together maybe it is. because when bikes into our workshop for servicing the chain is very worn and probably never been cleaned or any lubricant applied since fitted.

I remove my bottle cages once a year and clean that area. It’s usually filthy from road grime and sports drink. I also put anti seize on every bolt I reinstall.

You can use mtb wheels without changing the sealant bc the sealant is for tubeless only
So i just purchased a my first bike (new) last month and noticed that the in between on teeth on the back grears already have some rust on them, is this normal ware? Is there any maintenance i should have done before riding? The bike comes with a complementary bike tune up that they suggest i use after the first 50 miles or so. Could just be surface level from shifting gears
after watching this i was able to service my neighbours bike in his yard. i don’t know why he was angry though 😓 i was doing him a favour

would be useful to know how often to check each of these parts? Like how often to lube the chain, etc.
I use WD-40 Bike chain cleaner & degreaser then follow up with WD-40 bike chain lube. Both are spray cans. The lube says to rinse with water & wipe excess grease with a rag, then apply while backspinning then spin fowrard with the pedal. Let set for 30-60 sec & wipe off excess. Apply every 3-5 rides. Reapply more often in extremely wet conditions.
It depends a lot how you are using it, for example if you don't ride much when it rains, and always keep it inside, you can safely wait until you see or feel anything wrong, e.g. when the chain/cogs look dirty for example. Just do serious inspections every few hundreds/thousand kilometers for example.
If you are commuting by any weather, with salt on the roads in winter, your bike will last much longer if you service it every few weeks, including greasing the bearings every few months or at least keeping an eye on them, replacing the chain, etc.
Bar tape should be the last thing to change, don’t change it and then check your cables!

0:17 I think that is rust there. Careful with the degreaser there. I think for average folks, using too much degreaser and not properly getting the degreaser out before re-applying lube is a very dangerous proposition for the wellbeing of the bike.
I feel that for the average people, a proper chain wipe down, and relube and then wipe away the extra lube.

Not pressure washing or soaping it up since that runs the risk of washing away oils inside and while that is okay as long as you properly regrease everything!
I would say: never spray degreaser on your bike(parts). Spray degreaser on a cloth and wipe down the parts with that cloth.
I'm using white-spirit, WD-40, brushes and cloth, but even if it looks clean), and leaves no more traces when rubbing with paper or cloth (strips of cloth between the cogs, etc), as soon as I lube with thin oil, it becomes black again...
I think pressure water would be the most efficient if done correctly. Ball bearing are protected by casings and grease, they won't suffer at all. Then try to remove all the water you can or dry with pressured air to prevent rust and lube asap!
How do you adjust the brakes?
I treat my bike, like my car, leave it to the experts and at £30 for my local bike expert to check it, money well spent on my road bike. NB I got a tool to adjust a slightly off kilter wheel and when I dropped it off they said “er, half your spokes are loose?!?” Honestly, unless you have loads of time (to learn) or loads of practical skills, just get someone else to take a loook
It is worth it to learn these skills, saves a crap load of money in the long run.
I'm learning bike maintenance, not to save money, but to enjoy the full experience of being a bike owner.

Haven’t maintenanced my bike in about 5 years💀 haven’t touched it for 2. I wanna just take it in to get serviced but I figure I could do it for a lesser price.
You talked about lubing the bearings if needed, lubing the seat post and saddle rails. Does anything else need lube? I've seen some people lube the chain too.
Thin oil for chain. Grease would trap dirt and sand, and everything ages much quicker.
This will help my Bike last for a while I guess I would change the Bike seat due to my groin. Seat comfort is important to me.
I like to extract each pin then put all the pins, plates and rollers in degreaser, then grease the inside of each roller with a Q tip before reassembling and oiling the outside of the chain. 4 hours well spent!

It's true High pressure water blaster is not the right way to clean a bicycle, It's not a battle tank. Just a small water spray bottle and a soft rag, and for the oily moving parts another rag moistened with kerosene. Out comes the chain every 150 klm for a thorough deep cleaning . My bike always looks clean & sparkling , works great and never ever use a water blaster.
I like how every other bike repair or maintenance video says IF you have used a power washer on your bike you must immediately clean your bearing in your BB and wheel hubs. hahahaha
I can hear the front spokes moving around in the wind, also the plastic protection thing at the back moves around a lot and makes a sound. I have a brand new trek marlin 8, please help. Thank you in advance
Just go to your local mechanic for a check up. It's not that deep bro, that's why they are there.

Your mileage will vary based on weather, braking habits, pad type, riding style and terrain. But you should normally get 500-700miles from a resin pad, and 1000-1250 miles from a sintered metal pad.
No matter how often you ride you should give your bike a tune-up at least once a year. Today we'll learn how to tune up your bike, which I'd recommend doing at least once a year, or even every few months if you ride every day.
What is the weight capacity
When my spokes came loose I figured they just all needed to be tight ! So I bought a spoke tool and tighted they all and after I spun the wheel it wobbled so badly it stopped at the fork 😂 So the bike shop fixed it for 90 $
I oil the chain and end's of the cables. Stops them wearing.

Yes, it just means the freewheel is slightly engaged when turning the pedals rearwards. If it turns a lot then a new freewheel hub would be needed.
Anyone else notice that conti was mounted in the wrong rotational direction?

That was the first thing I noticed, looked like Conti GP 5000 and sure were back to front !!
Never use a pressure washer on your bike. ( it will force water into your bearings and down seat post etc , even if you are careful ) .Yeah I know the pro mechanics use them , those bikes only have to last maybe a year , and they get bearings etc supplied so it just doesn't matter to them. . For me my bike has to last years so rinse it with low pressure soft sprinkler. Been riding bikes and washing them for 39 years , so I know what works.

Yeah but good luck indexing the rear derrailleur on your own starting with a used bike! I gave up and ended up paying techs $300 to just fix it. That stuff is NOT built to be easy to do
