- Should the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Be So Inclusive? Who’s The Man Behind the Curtain of the R&RHOF?
Hey everyone!
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has done it again! At the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, many were inducted! And some of these inductees were even actually Rock acts!
But sadly, something all too familiar also occurred at the awards ceremony this year!
What was that? And has that something almost killed the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Is the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame even something that anyone really watches? Who are the heroes, and who are the villains, both on camera, and behind the scenes?
These and many more questions are answered in tonight’s video!
If you enjoy tonight’s video, please consider giving it a Thumbs-Up, as that helps the RUclips algorithm better identify the channel to a larger audience!
And if you haven’t subscribed to the channel yet, it is as easy as hitting that subscribe to ‘The Tribe’ button, then tapping the Top-Bell Icon to be notified of all my future videos on exciting bands and artists from the Classic Rock era, as well as today’s greatest music!

The Bottom Line
Grand Funk Railroad, The Guess Who, Sparks, The Monkees, Three Dog Night, Blue Oyster Cult etc... aren't in the Hall, but Dolly Parton is. God help us all.
Cannot agree more. The Monkees not being in there is a travesty - they were one of the most popular bands of the 60s, rubbed shoulders with the Beatles and others, had a hit TV show that everyone in our generation was influenced by, loved by all their peers, incredible musicianship and songwriting on those first 6 albums...Hendrix opened for them. They deserve a huge recognition.
Larry!
Brother I just heard of your troubles on your channel! Let me know if there’s anything I can do to support you in gaining any momentum you might have lost!

@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Hey Michael. On the topic of Foreigner repeatedly getting denied a Hall Of Fame spit, a community post from a rock channel just informed me they're planning to retire in 2024 today! Not a single mention of Lou Graham coming back either!
A topic for a future video?
Neil Giraldo was highly responsible for Pat Benatar's sound. He knew exactly what to write and play and how to arrange it in the perfect way that she could soar.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has become a joke.
100%
More that should be in: Jethro Tull, Mountain, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Joe Cocker, Joe Walsh, Steppenwolf, and more I can't think of at the moment. I don't think Little Feat is in and they should be.

Tom Hanks needs to stay on that Polar Express, and never come back! And I used to like home, before he became an Apple Yes-Man!

Bad Company come to mind? I've been screaming their induction forever! Heck you could even make a case for Toto in the HOF with 40 million albums sold and still a big arena draw!
Paul Rodgers influenced generations of rock singers. And between his bands Bad Co and Free, Bad Co was the bigger band, and that's why they should be in the hall. Toto not so much.
@@scottmcneely1927 Rappers come first, that's why it's called the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Shame.
You articulated my feelings perfectly…rock has gone from “Question Authority” to “How dare you question authority? No wonder other forms of “music” are now dominating radio stations.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is nothing but a bunch of millionaires telling each other how wonderful they are.
Yep, William!
One big group hug waiting to happen!❤
How is it that Johnny Rivers is not in the hall of shame ???? He is a singer, songwriter, producer, grammy award winner, great musician, No 1 hit in the USA, a string of top 10 hits globally, owner of "Soul City Records". Has sold over 30 million records. What else does someone have to do ???
Right on Michael. I've heard it described these award shows are nothing more than an opportunity to pat themselves on the back.
Yep Gary! And to stab those who Wenner doesn’t like IN the back!😉👌❤
Another great video Michael !! Wings were one of the biggest bands of the '70s, and SHOULD be recognized!!
Absolutely Tiger! As valid a choice as any, IMO!❤
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine great video. I’m a relatively new subscriber but loving your content. Im a HUGE Beatles fan as well. Im also a huge Oasis fan, I’m curious as to what your opinion is on them?
Neil Geraldo did co-write some songs with Pat. He does deserves to be treated as her equal. Don’t understand at all why you would disagree with that
According to Pat, she wanted someone who would create a Page/Plant, Jagger/Richards type of partnership and she found it with Geraldo. Not to mention the riffs he laid down often carry the song along with Pat’s vocals and his playing contributes why the songs are so memorable. He’s one of the great underrated players of his generation and shouldn’t be sold short
Yes, Neil Geraldo's economical guitar work was a big part of her sound and he wrote or cowrote many of her songs.
Agree with you 100%! This is "inclusion" taken to madness.
It’s the Homogenization of Rock I say! ❤
Good lord, I feel Like a Town-crier! “The Weiner is coming, the Weiner is coming!” 🔔🔔🔔
Randy Bachman should be in twice by this time (BTO & The Guess Who), Paul Carrack has sang on hits in 3 decades, John Hiatt should be recognized...
Yes he should! For BTO & The Guess Who!❤
Can you imagine Led Zeppelin in the Country Music Hall of Fame? It makes about as much sense as Dolly Parton being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Good video, Michael.

Danzig, Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Tiny Tim, Partridge Family, Sparks, The Sweet, Slade, T Nugent, GFRailroad, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and maybe The Banana Splits
Ooh! One banana, two banana, three banana, 4!!! Them with a backbeat just might work, J!😉👌❤️
HA - True; The Splits are more R&R than 'some of' that CRAP / Pay to play BS being inducted every yr; Jann Wenner/Loser morphed into a total joke; BTW: Fleagle rocked !!!
Partridge Family? I'll give you David Cassidy as an excellent singer and consummate showman but the songs written for him were pedestrian crap.
The Monkees exclusion is vile and extremely hypocritical. Always has been.
Yeah, I want to do something on them that would really stress the hole they so successfully plugged, and in such a way that always left you turning up the radio, whether you would actually admit to even liking them!
The Monkees are Fab!❤
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine I would love to see a video about the Monkees on your channel. I know you would bring great insight to it.
Did they make their impact when they were a band or when they were a TV? On their own, they never showed an ability to match the level of the manufactured version. It's like putting in the Archie's if Ron Dante had formed them for real after Sugar Sugar.
@@MrKeychange On an artistic level, their albums actually improved once they fought for (and won) creative control. Each member brought unique talents to the project. If interested, I made a video discussing the Monkees exclusion from the Hall of Shame.
@@BruceColon-BSides I actually worked with them and got to know them. As a musician, Mickey is wonderful, Nes was an innovator (MTV!) and Davy was a great entertainer. I love those guys, but I still feel the songwriting and production deminished. I can see your point on the creative front.
Wenner Has held grudges for years against certain artists like foreigner, three dog night and other bands who refuse to Kiss his butt. Mark Farner from Grand Funk railroad said he is not in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. Because he refuses to have brown stains around his lips in order to get there
If actual rock bands would start boycotting the hall maybe they would smarten up. But the problem is half the bands are all googley eyed when they get inducted. This is why I admire Ritchie Blackmore. He told them to shove it.
@@isaiah5323 absolutely
Inducting non-rock artists, especially rappers, is way for the RRHOF to "own the rockists."
“Rock and Roll Hall of Shame”-Putting Dolly in was the last straw. Some one else lost out, say, IRON MAIDEN!🎧
they lost me when (c)rap assholes were let in.
Yeah, and Judas Priest looked embarrassed to even be there, IMO VVV!❤
And 'Iron Butterfly' !!!!
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT MR NOLAN. I'M 100% WITH YOU.
Thanx, so much Juan!❤
Hi Michael, I saw this coming. Dolly Parton is a great Country artist with 52 studio albums, 48 solo, and 200 compilations and close to 3000 songs written. A great artists and I've always enjoyed her songs. However she is not a Rock Star! Some of her songs crossed over to maybe pop but were clearly still country. I agree with you completely she does not belong in Rocks hall of fame. Her nomination as well as the rappers was controversial from the day they were nominated. I've been through a country phase and a rap phase and still like both but neither are rock n roll. There are so many worthy rock acts that deserve to be inducted. Hail hail rock n roll!
I too like Dolly, Royce!
Not so much Rap, but I do see Rap as an art-form worthy of aclaim!❤
Thanx, brother!
I heard the Hall didn't even let Judas Priest sit at the adult's table. They're relegated to a "special niche" area in the building.
And they looked at bit awkward all night as well, Bea!
Nothing makes me angrier than this Shite-Show!
These guys should have made Eminem & Dolly wash their freakin’ car, and then have John Sykes lick it dry 😛🥵
Thanx, Bea!❤
Evening Mike. I’m still kind of upset that DEVO didn’t make it. Some of my favorite of the New Wave music, along with XTC, Oingo Boingo, and Gary Numan. All of which should be in the Hall of Fame. I also think there’s a serious lack of alternative related music in the Hall of Fame. Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, The Stone Roses, Queens of the Stone Age, The Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr, The Smiths, Korn, Alice In Chains, and Primus. All are influential in their own ways and absolutely deserve it.
QOTSA made their debut in 1999. You can't be eligible until you hit 25 years. And besides, they can wait.
Jan Wenner isn't CEO anymore because he about had a heart attack when KISS was inducted into his HOF against his will. Problem is with the RARHOF is they're really the Music HOF but they're capitalizing on the name Rock And Roll but completely destroying what rock and roll always was and always stood for. As Paul Stanley has said many times, the RARHOF is a private club and they can vote in whomever they want but that dilutes everything they're SUPPOSED to be and i do not support this private club at all.
Great point, here Brian!
The using of the term ‘Rock & Roll’ is using the art-form I love to promote other art-forms!
I hear next year they are inducting the Mona Lisa!
Hey painting is an art-form too! Show Mona some Love, Jann!😉
Michael, what do you think about Kansas?
You should make a video ranking their albums
Great idea, Shawn!
They were right there with Foreigner keeping Rock alive back when Jann Wenner was still just an irritating prick who used to know John Lennon!
Wenner for Oscar Meyer Weiner Hall of Fame! He’d show!❤
You're right on and preaching to the choir. To me, "rock 'n' roll" means just that. I will concede it isn't always easy to define or distinguish. I also admit to areas of cross-over that can blur the lines. But other musical genres have their own monikers (e.g. "rhythm & blues," "hip-hop," "country," "classical," etc.) for specific reasons, due mostly to shared characteristics that have little to no commonality with "rock" music. To me, the easiest way to identify actual rock music is the artist's catalogue as a whole (even acknowledged rock acts sometimes venture into a different genre). But to your point, there are now so many non-rock artists in the hall I can't take it seriously. It feels like they quickly ran out of the widely-accepted giants of '60s and '70s rock and then just turned to well-known names - even though those artists never came anywhere near recording, performing (or probably listening to) bona fide "rock 'n' roll." Nice job of investigative journalism here. Merry Christmas.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be renamed The Music Hall of Fame
I’d be more than fine with that! I wouldn’t watch it, but I’d be fine with it, Mr!❤👌😉
I agree. Maybe the Modern Music Hall of Fame. Otherwise you might have to put in Mozart and Beethoven.

I remember I used to write the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame once a year with suggestions for nominations and inductions. Eventually, I got tired of wasting postage on them! Great motive but old fashioned! If they actually read any of those letters, they might've invited me to "join their club" for the outrageous price of $1000. And what an honor that would be!
I can get in my very exclusive club for only $500!

Hey Michael, since Dan McCafferty sadly passed away lately, could you make a video about Nazareth? It's the band that introduced me to (Hard) Rock and it was the first concert I ever attended

Grandmaster Flash, Eminem, Kraftwerk, The Notorious B.I.G., N.W.A., Madonna, etc. -- why is any of this shit in the RNRHOF when they have nothing to do with rock and roll?
Blackmore's Rainbow, Iron Maiden, Manowar, Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Hanoi Rocks, Asia, King Crimson, Ronnie James Dio, Ted Nugent, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, Motorhead, The Tubes, Screaming Jay Hawkins, Blue Cheer, Slade, Badfinger, T. Rex, Tommy Bolin, etc. -- I could fill a volume of the Encyclopedia Brittanica just listing all the influential rock n' rollers who've been tragically overlooked! Jann Wenner can take his elitist attitude and go pound sand!
Yes! And here’s hoping it hurst like hell!
But Jann would only slap at it!❤
Kraftwerk influenced 80s new wave, post-punk and alt-rock in general. They influenced prog rock bands like Marillion, also. Billboard historian Joel Whitburn classified Kraftwerk as an art-rock band. Their origins can be traced to King Crimson, who has yet to be inducted. Like Rush did, they influenced bands from various genres.
Absolutely a spit in the eye to rock fans and performers Is Triumph in yet?
No they are not. They are in the Canadian music industry hall of fame and other Canadian music halls.
I get it ,then you said exactly what I was thinking ,saved me from having to write it down ,things have changed that's forsure !!
And NOT for the better, unfortunately, kev!❤

Hi Michael, I enjoy your videos and find your opinions on much of the material you cover matches mine. I normally watch the videos on a cable/streaming box, which makes it somewhat inconvenient to add comments, so this is my first time commenting. When it comes to the politics and B.S. of the R&RHOF I have a story for you. I live across from Detroit, Michigan in Windsor, Ontario Canada.
Back in the 60's & 70's the local AM Station: Am 800 CKLW, had a 50,000 watt signal that on a clear night could be heard across most of the mid-west. This included Michigan, Ontario, Ohio and Illinois to name a few. The music director Rosalie Trombley, known as the “girl with the golden ear.”, was “the single most powerful female in the pop music business” because she made careers. She had such musical knowledge and an ear for great new music. She almost single handedly helped kick off/ boost the careers of such bands as Elton John, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Bob Seger, Stevie Wonder, Alice Cooper and KISS. Also, there would probably be no Soul and Motown as we know it without her. The Bob Seger song Rosalie is about her. There is a documentary called The Big 8: The Rise and Fall of CKLW, I recommend that you, and the rest of the Tribe for that matter, give it a watch. It will shock you that she has not even been considered for the R&RHOF.
Here are a couple of links to videos about Rosalie Trombley and CKLW

Great video. Totally agree. I always thought Arthur Alexander was a pioneer. He should have been in there. A tragedy
Tragedy is Jann Wenner’s Middle Name, Larry!
You make so much sense and bring the truth out! Good job Michael. Please do a video on The Monkees soon! People like you are needed to let the truth be known about them and to squash all the misunderstood, down right wrong rumours that got way overblown. It almost feels like a conspiracy is formed to constantly discredit them and so many people believe it just because it’s been said so many times. Hope you will soon so they can get some Justus, err justice 😊
First video of yours that kept me laughing all the way...hilarious! What is rock & roll ? Damn good question these days..
Thanx, Mark!
What is Rock & Roll is a very good question, and deserves further merit!
But I do know what Rock & Roll ISN’T! And that’s where the whole process should start, IMO!❤
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine I have no doubt you'll get to the bottom of it, Michael. I guess we are showing our age...we still question "the man" ! Cheers
Dolly Parton's music isn't as popular as it was in the 70s but she's super famous. And what do super famous artists whose music is no longer charting do?...Do whatever it takes to stay famous...There's no way she was going to turn down that induction.
You stated yourself in this very video that "rock & roll originally it was very anti establishment...if you ask me rock & roll used to be an art form that would get us to question ourselves & perhaps even ourselves as a society".
That is EXACTLY how I would describe Eminem.
And again, I recognize his lyrics as doing just that!
But nI also stated that just lyrics don’t quite cut it for me, Laci!
There’s the backbeat, the instrumentation, and how that instrumentation is both used and mixed in to their material, melodies with minor third harmonies, certain progressions in basic rock, and more complicated progressions developed by later bands!
And finally Eminem sampling 7 Rock songs on his material does NOT make him Rock & Roll! Now where did all that sampling start?
Rap has produced so many samples of Rock material, there’s even an article on the internet title ‘The 77 Best Rock Songs Sampled by Rap!
Sampling Sucks, and I want to do a video on just that!
Thanx Laci!❤️👌
Jeez, but it's NOT rock 'n' roll!
You know, Michael, there for a moment it felt like you were channeling Zappa. I remember his take on awards shows.
I wouldn’t complain if Wings were inducted.
They were one of the top selling bands throughout the seventies!❤
It's funny, here in Nashville I keep getting notification about how the Ryman Auditorium is celebrating being named a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Landmark this year. You usually think of them as being part of the history of country music. As part of the celebration, they'll be having Bono, Lynard Skynard, Smokey Robinson, and John Mellencamp doing shows. A news article about being named a landmark mentions inductees whove played there that include Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, James Brown, Foo Fighters, the Byrds, Clapton, Joan Jett, and Elvis Presley. I saw Elvis Costello there a few years ago, and he's also an inductee, but obviously, all of those artists aren't rockers.
Dolly Parton inducted into The Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame? What's next? Deep Purple inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame?
It would be the best damned awards show they ever saw, T!❤
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine When Olivia Newton-John won a country music award in the 1970s, and remember, much of her early work was country music, the country music establishment was furious because how dare an Australian woman who has nothing to do with America win such an award?

Totally agree, Michael. They should abandon the rock n roll angle and just call it the music hall of fame... it's simply another elite "our club and you aren't in it" farce. 😑
Michael again I agree with you. Rap and Country loved by millions in their own right, are no closer to Rock and Roll than Swing.
Another great video Michael! Still love Dolly, but it’s disappointing that she backtracked and is now part of a hall of fame that she has no business being in. And don’t get me wrong. She deserves her spots in the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry, but at the end of the day, that’s ultimately where she should stay too, and it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever that she gets to be in, but so many rock and roll greats don’t even get a shot
GFR, BOC, BTO are not included but rap and hip hop stars are. What a farce the hall has become. 😬
Thanx, Dan!

For ne personally, I really don't have a problem of Dolly Parton getting as much as ABBA and Madonna getting in earlier. That's when, in my opinion, the hall lost its way. Though I'm glad that Pat Benatar got in, she should have been inducted long before ABBA and Midge. A true rock and roll chick. And I said that with the upmost respect

He is right because Rolling Stone Magazine is part of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. So you got to leave groups out to keep the conversation going. When you leave out Grand Funk Railroad one of the few American Bands at the time that went toe to toe with some of the greatest rock band at that time and they are not in. If you all about Rock And Roll History you do not leave out anything about rock history.

@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Oh, you got that right. 👍
The only inductee worth watching this year is Judas Priest, but the fact it took years before it could happen. This should've happened at least the same decade Black Sabbath was inducted.
The fact that they've omitted SO MUCH bands is just mindblowing: Toto, Bad Company, Thin Lizzie, Iron Maiden, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Megadeth, King Crimson, Motorhead. I can go on and on here, and even list out why they have to be there, but it's just gonna whoosh past Jann fucking Wenner's head.
Bit of an analogy here, but when All Elite Wrestling started out in 2019, it was a fresh alternative to the aging WWE, so much so that some of WWE's wrestlers made their way to AEW's ring. It's a stretch, but there should be a rival hall that knows how to respect these bands
What about Foghat?!? Black Oak Arkansas?….Not The Runaways?….But The Go Gos?!?…..Ronnie James Dio/Dio/Ronnie w/Black Sabbath!?!
The Tragically Hip will never be inducted and man what a shame. Their name, music, was not a household name outside Canada but the quality of their stuff will continue to stand the test of time. They were really really good.
They were awesome, Bruce!❤

Oh yeah, He had a rag that gave home a voice! A voice that stopped listening to, when I found out the man is morally bankrupt, right around 1974, and even that was way to late!
I can still smell the stink!❤
Dolly Parton has covered "Stairway to Heaven" on a studio album
It sounds like the Rock-N_Roll Hall of Bank
Bank & Roll Hall of Fame!
I love it, Z!❤
Damn Michael again we agree. I am not a country aficionado nor Rap one, though I recognize great talent in these two very different types of art forms. But neither are in any way Rock. Just as the Beatles aren’t rappers nor country singers. So it makes no sense to me for Rap stars or Country folk to be in the Rock Hall of Fame. I totally agree with you about Foreigner and the Monkees.
The Beatles did a few country tunes.
Thanx, Robert!
We should celebrate our differences! That always encourages creativity! Anything else becomes a vacuum!❤
@@michaelharrington75 I’m not familiar with any. Which songs?
@@moodiblues2The Beatles disguise the country sound a bit because they don't have southern American accents, and they used mostly instruments that had a more rockabilly sound. But songs like Act Naturally, Don't Pass Me By, Rocky Racoon, What Goes On, Octopuses Garden, I've Just Seen a Face, Baby's In Black, and Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby are country style songs.
@@michaelharrington75 Interesting, I never thought of them that way. But, these songs were not my favorite Beatles songs, so I didn’t listen to them after first listening to them. I’ll listen again with what you wrote in mind.
Inclusivity kinda defeats the purpose of a hall of fame. It needs to be explicitly exclusive. Otherwise it’s just a list of musicians.
Yeah a list in Jann Wenner’s private phone book! If you aren’t on his speed dial, forget it! Puppet masters! You either get Yes men, or a boy with a growing nose! Ya can’t freakin’ win!❤ Thanx, STG!
RRHOF has been such a joke for years now to the point if I were these artists/bands I wouldn't want to be in it, it's become an embarrassment IMO. Love your Kiss comment lol!
Todd Rudgren: “If inducted, I will not serve!”
Now that’s a Rocker for you, Yt!❤
Dolly in rock Hall of fame is like Led Zeppelin in the Country Hall of fame.
Listen to Hot Dog, off In Through the Out Door. It was always one of my favorite songs by Zeppelin and sounds country to me.
If the Country Hall of Fame could get them to show up, they’d do it, TIM!❤
And I’d watch!📺❤
I completely understand the argument against letting mere pop artists in the R&R HOF, but I also understand that once the precedent is set you can't put the cat back in the bag. Does Dolly belong? No, but she has just as many credentials (if not more) to get in as Jay-Z. I think it also understates a difference in common usage of the term "rock and roll". Back in the 80's, when the R&R HOF was created, "rock and roll" and "pop music" were used interchangeably by certainly most people not in the industry and maybe by most in the industry. Of course, now there are many different genres of music that fit into the "pop music" umbrella that were not considered so back then. So maybe the intent of the R&R HOF was to include all forms of popular music. I honestly do not know enough about the history of the HOF to know what the original intent of the creators was.
And something interesting perhaps only to me, but I find it curious that the song Pink Floyd played for their HOF induction was what Gilmour refers to as "a very simple country song", and yet no one then or now had any objection.
Excellent point on the malleability of the term "rock 'n' roll"
We Can’t put the Genie back into the bottle, huh Michael?
That’s fine! What good mis the damned bottle then?
I’ll keep Barbara Eden, and Jann can have the damned bottle!😉👌
But points well taken, Michael,thanx!!!❤
Excellent!
Wayne! You’re tribute just came across my notifications!
Once I respond to these comments, bruddah, I’m there!
See ya when_____!!❤👌👍
Maybe they should start a rap hall of fame and induct Dolly Parton .
It's as if Tom Brady got inducted into the Baseball HOF. You would immediately think WTF? You could still acknowledge he's a great player, just not a BASEball player.
They would just say that Baseball is so much more than just baseball, and get away with it, George!❤
I say that the Christianity Hall of Fame should include Mohammed...
Spot on
Thanx Pedro!❤
Duran Duran and Pat Benatar/Neil Giraldo were the only ones that made sense.
Agreed. I have very mixed feelings about Dolly. She is a talented singer and composer, originally in the Country genre. But she cashed in by doing pop music and movies. She hasn't been a "Country" artist in decades, and has NEVER been a Rock artist. She takes what she can get for a buck. Good for her, I guess. I certainly won't disparage any individual's attempt to make money in this crazy world, which brings me to the R&R HOF. They, too, have cashed in by selecting so many non-rock artists, just for the purpose of attracting their fans and making money from them. An organization like that (as opposed to an individual) SHOULD be more true to its' mission, and less concerned about revenues. Bottom line: Dolly is a good-to-great pop (and previously Country) singer/composer. I can easily see her in a Country music HOF. The R&R HOF took the money and ran (catch my Steve Miller reference there?) by inducting virtually any artist who has sold a lot of recordings, despite their lack of connection to R&R.
It gets down to chasing ratings, and when you do that, people start tuning out, as they did here in 2022! En Mass!❤
Eh, I have to call shenanigans here. I do agree with you to a point. They should rename it the Music Hall of Fame because putting non-rock people in changes what it is. They're putting artists who essentially killed rock into the Rock Hall of Fame.
Where I differ is the idea that only people who have been in the rock scene for years should release rock records. I think it's an emotional opinion based on our genre being marginalized.
We praise the Beatles for jumping into different styles of music with zero experience. The Bee Gees jumped into disco and immediately made classics.
With Dolly, we're not talking a about samples and auto-tune. It's not even Pat Boone doing metal.
Dolly grew up around wonderfully dirty southern rockers and rhythm and blues guys. She plays guitar and knows how to hit a pocket. Why can't the country girl throw a little leather on for once and get nasty?
She's been musically uninspired for decades now. Maybe she needs to rock. I'll buy it.
And I’m sure many will!
I can only hope it sells as well as rocker Bach’s classic hit ‘Fugue in G Minor’!!!
What a rock classic!❤
Just pulling your chain, MP! You make some great points here!😉👌❤️
Iron Maiden needs to be in there. Ridiculous that they are not. Dolly Parton over Maiden?!?! Like wtf!
Spot-Freakin’-On, OOTT!👌❤
I thought about this today and came to realize the HOF has to let in rap and country artists, so they can feel they are still relevant in today’s music scene. If it was just rock acts, then it would stop at 1996 when the rock era ended. They would then see what they were doing is a nostalgia show.
Wings will get in eventually in the sidemen category. The Silver Bullet Band and the Revolution as well.
They should call it the POP Hall Of Fame because that's what it is.
Ooh, M! And think about it! They already have a weasel in Jann Wenner!
They could play ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’ as the televised events’ theme song! Hmm________
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine LOL!
How long before Ernest Tubb is inducted? One heavy metal rock’in dude! Rock on Ernie! 😩😩😩
IMO no rap artist should be inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. It’s a joke when you’ve got a long line of rock bands like Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden … how about the king of surf guitar, Dick Dale … and also Cliff Richard & The Shadows!!
How on earth can even Donna Summers (Disco 🤮) be inducted before actual rock acts is beyond me.
Both Country and Blues genres have that grey area with rock (because it’s a combination of both), but I do agree with you on Dolly Parton …. she’s always been mainstream country.
Let’s just change the damned name to the ‘Lucky Few Who Kissed Jann Wenner’s Ass Hall of Fame’!
Thanx, Renato!❤
It’s a thrift shop. If you have ever been there it’s a shame. It’s extremely hard to find a lot of artists.
Dolly Parton but not Jethro Tull?
What about Canadian bands like April wine ? I hear their music on lots of US television shows and movies . What about the Guess Who and BTO?
