Just made my day absolutely marvellous.I saw it on you tube and then went on to my Computer to download it.henri'S boogie in Hd just got me so excited .I am 78 and like all sorts of music .especially 1960's but henri's boogie is the tops for me a real masterpiece
Of all the ones I have heard, I think I like the style of Luca Sestak the best!! His "Handclap Bluies" is Cosmic!!!
I'm glad you included my top 3 boogie players in your list of 5. Dr. K is fantastic and quite versatile while playing but has a tendency to talk too much in-between numbers. Terry is also a fabulous player who certainly has a lot of energy and is very entertaining. However, Henri is hands down the best player of all. Just watching his hands and fingers hit those keys is mind-boggling and he is the best boogie player in the world.
Really? I don't know Henri but I didn't enjoy his performance in this video. He was the most technically crisp (and dextrous) of all the players but I didn't care for his improv skills. Too much repetition and not enough swing, syncopation for its own sake (just to show he can?). Just personal taste I guess.
As annoying as Dr K. is, I have to admit his sense of musicality and style are top-notch. He has great creative lyrical bounce and lilt to his swings that make it a pleasure for my ear.
Henri has a ridiculous amount of discipline and power. Accuracy. He did repetitive stuff I guess but it was all harder louder and faster than dr K and without losing a beat. Dr k is a beast of a player. But the mountain that is piano is Everest.

I AGREE BUT I THINK TERRY MILES IS #2, DR K #1 & BEN TOURNEY IS #3. THEY ARE ALL AMOUNG THE BEST EVER! BEN IS STILL YOUNG BUT ON HIS WAY TO THE TOP.

They're all great, but I'd definitely pay to see Ben Toury if he ever came within a 100 miles of me.

This is just what I need: Boogie Woogie!
I find that Dr K delivers a "purer" form of "Boogie Woogie" than most others. A lot of the other genius boogie players tend to blend in a bit of "rock n roll, or jazz.

It ain't a Top 5 Boogie-Woogie pianist list without the great "Dr. K," Brendan Kavanaugh! Without him, a list of this sort is ABSOLUTELY nothing but sacrilege! Therefore, I'm glad to see that "Doc K" is right where he deservedly belongs on this here list. Now, this is a Top 5 Boogie-Woogie list of the highest magnitude!

Any list of great Boogie Woogie piano players starts with Henri Herbert, Terry Miles, and Dr. K. That's why I like this video. Henri is at the top of my list, but Terry and Dr. K. ,who are both very animated, and are close runner ups.
These may have been the crowd favorites, but not the best and most talented.
They are all great but they all take a back seat to Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson, Meade Lux Lewis and Dr. John.

Here are these phenomenal players, and with the exception of the duet at the beginning, for the most part everybody is just walking right by!! I'm a professional pianist; I've had this experience, and I really don't understand it. I'm tempted to believe that people today are just accustomed to digitally delivered music, that they don't have any particular appreciation of live music. Or is it the collapse of music education in most schools? Or both? Or something else?

Ben and Henri are the best playing boogie woogie, but Brendan i think knows more theory than all of them together. I must say in 6 years watching boogies woogies vids,i never saw Dona, really good too!
Out of the above Henri is the best in my opinions no matter the actual video but have you seen Ladyva or Luca Sestak? Boogie Woogie and piano for that matter has an certain entertainment level. But if you look at note accuracy and timing at speed Ladyva is very good. Dr K has very good entertainment value. I am in the audio field where A - B comparison is used a lot. Listen to one player and switch directly to another . Do that for example between Dr K and Ladyva or Henri Herbert and you will hear what I mean. Ladyva just sounds like shes got the most time to hit the notes spot on. Effortless player.
