    Also foster care is a business in the US
    "If you are considering becoming a foster parent (also known as Resource Parent) or host-guardian, at some point you’re going to wonder how much foster parents get paid in California. That’s a perfectly fair question.
    In theory, a resource or foster family can earn as much more than $9,000 per month, prorated per night. But it’s all based on variables like the number of kids you’re fostering, their ages and any special needs they may have. So what’s the actual payment range?
    In the state of California, foster parents currently (2020) may receive between $1000 to $2609 each month per child, depending on the Level of Care. You may have up to 6 children in one home, depending on their needs; but it is more reasonable to have less than 6. A foster family agency may opt to give foster parents more than the minimum, so you should check with your agency"

    Just so I have this straight. I could do a neighbor a favor, babysit for a couple of hours and then be sued and lose over child support, but somebody takes someone in, feeds them, houses them, provides medical for years, and that’s not considered adopting because they didn’t fill out some paperwork? Does it feel slimy, it could. But how much more of the financial burden did they carry after he turned 18? Did he continue to live with them? Did he spend his family time with them over the ensuing years? Who wrote the book that the movie was based on? Pretty sure the story about him graduating college and making it to the NFL did not happen before he turned 18. Really sad that they could not work it out as the family they purported to be. I know if I had a financial conflict with a family member like this, I’d ask them what they thought was fair, and if I had it, I’d write them a check. If not, I’d work out payments. But to attribute malice and chicanery to what was likely the easiest, cheapest and least amount of paperwork to do, really demonstrates how far the gratitude extends for taking someone in. Perhaps the Twohys are every bit as sneaky and conniving as they are being portrayed, but also maybe not.

      @meggy0 Год назад +11

      This is such a bad take. The paperwork really is not that hard to sort out, and the worst part is that they didn't even tell him they were profiting. That's sneaky and deceptive, and they have been peddling a false narrative for years and not allowing Oher to tell his own story. Oher was 23 when the movie came out, not a child, not underage, and they easily could have split the residuals, but when it was no longer convenient for them, he wasn't a part of the family. He should not of had to ask them to give him money they made off of his story, and just because they 'took him in' it does not mean he owes them anything. If the Tuohy's truly did house him out of the goodness of their hearts, then why didn't they split the earnings? They wanted money, and Oher just wants his share of it.
