In the early 80s I raced 400cc production in So. Calif, then got married and never touched a motorcycle for nearly 10 yrs. One day while in Germany at a bicycle/motorcycle trade show I saw a brand new TZR-205 being used as a display by a famous sports clothing company. Up to that point, all I knew was a rumor that there was a street version of a 250 TZ. Right then and there I made the president of the company an offer to buy it, and incredibly he said "YES"! He was paying too much transport fees, and other regulatory fees to move it around to other countries to use as a display. So I paid him Cash, and after the show, I sneaked the TZR into our display booth container and shipped it to my warehouse in LA. GOD!!! That thing handled and went fast, almost like my RD400cc production racer. Of course after a month or two I bought all the Go Fast, lightweight toys, including magnesium rims and that thing was a rocket! I would take it to the ROCKSTORE, and just whipped everyone and anyone on that short windy road from the store up to the viewpoint. I only ran slicks. Incredibly I never got busted as I hung a license plate from another motorcycle I purchased just to do this.
