It really is insane that with cheating its still only a few minutes off of the world record. The speedrunning community really is awesome.
Practice is also a factor as CJ isn't used to playing with cheats like these enabled, which affect the physics of the game. So while the route may be similar it's almost like he's playing a different game

Unironically would love to see an official no cutscene % leaderboard. I know a lot of speedrunners complain, or at least get a bit frustrated, that so much of the time of the run is just cutscenes.
Agreed, it is the least intrusive of the mods played, and it seems that skipping cutscenes made Nut clip harder and whatnot so there is a trade-off, even if a small one
Tbh i dont think it matters. If we assume, for example, that there is a total of 20 minutes from just cut scenes, that 20 minutes is just (part of) a baseline for how fast a theoretically perfect run can be. A cut scene doesn't slow anyone down. Everyone has that time added to their run by default.

I feel like the strats would be different though for a no cutscene %. A handful of moons are avoided due to cut scenes associated with them causing them to take longer, but removing those cut scenes would make them more viable options for routing.
It’s interesting to think how much faster skipping cuts scenes are compared to both the other two mods that make movement easier and the actual world record
The cutscenes take a damn long time lol. They make sense when you are designing them to be seen as a player explores the massive levels over the course of an entire long single player platformer.
They make much less sense when you are treating the entire game like one single long, difficult time based mission.
I mean...arguably the biggest reason for that is that he didn't optimize the route for the cheats.
A *huge* part of speedrunning is the routing.
You don't really need to optimize mucu to get the most out of removing cutscenes. You do need to optimise quite a lot to get the best out of new techs.
Makes sense tbh - cutscenes are a static block that every run has to skip, and even if it's only a few frames each time, there are over a hundred required for the any% (I'd guess 150-200), and that really adds up.
Higher speed makes most of the required movement harder, not easier, as CJ clearly demonstrated

I bet if you took the time to figure out a route, infinite jumping could probably beat the world record but there probably are points where following the any% path is quicker than just jumping there. 5x speed seems too hard to control to be truly practical. On the other hand, no cutscenes let’s you cut off ten minutes-ish with very little trade off.
I wonder if someone could make a mod where using a car pedal you can control how fast Mario moves using a gas pedal.
Or just Mario Odyssey using a steering setup. For added difficulty, you can only turn if you use your 'indicators' first.
I say added difficulty because it's a skill even drivers seem to have trouble with sometimes...

@@prosylan6368 depends on how you cheat, like say if mario is only slightly faster and you can make him gradually faster in various increments, not enough to get noticed right away, but enough to get a subtle "wait a minute, something's not right" going through people's brains

I know he joked about doing all of them together, but infinite bounces + no cutscenes would actually be hype. I think those would be kinda hype together, especially if he took a couple of runs
I think the little zooming noises he makes with the speed mod are the cutest thing I‘ve ever heard
CJ needs to upload a mega compilation of ONLY the sounds he makes when he plays this game with a close up to the face and nothing else.
imagine cheating significantly, i.e. mario 5x speed, infinite cappy jumps, etc. and still losing to the world record. Not bad on you, just showing just how strong any% WR is in this game. GGs, so entertaining!

The last mod actually remind me of Banjo Tooie, in Banjo Kazooie, Banjo stopped to do a celebration with every jiggy he grabbed(unless he was swimming, flying or transformed) with the extra that the last one of the world, he would actually dance, in Banjo Tooie there's only a sound, nothing else, not even a celebratory jingle when you complete the level
