Handful Of Chargers Take On Remote Indo Reef - Surfing Sumbawa

- Thumbnail is at 3:11. We've checked this spot numerous times, often finding it completely empty, so we were pleasantly surprised when a boat load of chargers/pros turned up to a pumping morning session last Saturday.
Pro free surfer, Bruno Santos, got stuck into heaps of good waves and made one of the best barrels we've ever filmed at the 3:11 mark. Other notable names out there that morning were Tai 'Buddha' Graham, Mikala Jones, and Aussie legend Jim Banks.
From the beach, it's a 15 minute paddle out to this pretty intimidating reef setup, with a menacingly sharp and shallow inside section. This place has already claimed one life a few years ago, so it's no wonder it's often very quiet or empty out there.
Apologies for the shaky boat footage - we've never filmed from a boat before, and our cheap camera is not really up to the job to be honest!

Surfed supersuck early 90s. Had it from 2 foot up to 5 foot/12 foot faces over 5 days. Nobody around. Got the best barrels of my life. One of the boys went over the falls and hit the reef. Came up with his forehead skinned to bone. Massive flap of skin hanging off his forehead. From memory there was a mine/construction site somewhere on land they raced him to where there was a doctor who stitched him up. Very lucky. Such a shallow wave especially on the lower tide. We all scraped fins on the reef.

It really is. The inside is one of the sharpest, and nastiest bits of reef I've ever encountered 👹
I thought the same thing. It almost doesnt seem worth it chasing those inside runners down.
Good thing Bruno got under that lip. Turned into a gorgeous barrel. Looks like the local got some fun in the wash trying to get back out. This is a brutal wave. 🙏 to all the challengers!

surfed scars on "the muzza swell". a bucks party turned up and paddled out all hungover and still half pissed into a 10ft swell. saw one guy get the most epic barrel he could barely surf and just made it. i thought he might die if he fell off it was right on the inside section and the tide was going low.

Funnily enough this is still considered 'medium' out there. It gets a lot bigger than this, and that's when it really gets sketchy ☠☠☠

One of the guys I used to work with did a yacht trip there 30 years ago and a kneelboarder went for a skid across that last section. Came up barked all down one side of his face and body. They loaded him up with JD and kept surfing. They were only a few days into the charter and weren't going home anytime soon 🤣🤣
