Feel compelled to congratulate you on your channel. As a 51yr old who loves being outdoors and the odd triathlon here and there, thank you for keeping it real. I am never going to make the fully fledged hybrid athlete as the years are against me but love your honesty Fergus. Keep smiling pal.

I get so anxious watching you ride on the left-hand side of the road! I know this is correct for you but still. I really enjoy the explanations you provide and they all make good sense. I have been practicing, without realizing it, the overload/adaption theory by lifting or doing hard climbing workouts the day before a bike.

Great program - been hybrid training 42 years, former triathlete, road and MTB racer, doing a triathlon here and there. Added combat sports 10 years a go and ramping up weight training last 3 years or so. Cheers

Been enjoying your videos for a while but haven’t commented. I appreciate the insight of why/how you program. There aren’t a lot of sources of info for people who want to maintain/build strength and be an endurance athlete. I’ve been playing around with it a lot over the past couple years often ending up on the side of over training so these videos are great.

Love this. How do you find spending so much time solo training affects your mental health? I used to race a lot but after starting to work for myself at home, I had to change my training routines a bit so that I'm not always on my own, but I miss those race days sooooo much that I might have to switch back! Keep up the great work, loving the videos 👍

So I am watching this having been forced into my strength-based leg workout on Friday, ahead of an 18km run and 1.5km swim on Saturday, and an 80km ride on Sunday. (These are long for me...!) Absolutely deadly. Never again. Leg days are going as far from endurance workouts as possible from now on.

Its a hard balance I'm training for a triple ironman and do x 2 crossfit a week, have to be strict as want to do more strenth stuff, but it becomes a negative. I'm only 68kg but have to put away 3700 calories on a typical doubel training day to get the recovery going throughout the day and night.

Do you all train triathelets? I have been missing strength training. I just got back into tri and have completed a full distance ironman in the past and many halfs. Trying to focus more on sprint and olympic to keep moving up in the ranks (podiumed my first two sprints) as it's great for moral. Let me know if you all take on triathelets and have capacity to develop that kind of program thanks! (I just saw running and lifting programs on your site)

I'm 48 YO, 6'2" 190lbs. Why can't I lift and then do cardio without getting hurt and being down? For some reason it's much easier for me to go with L1-L2 cardio sessions 3-4x and lift 1-2x per week and just drop a few #'s from the lower P chain lifts. Any thoughts?

@@ferguscrawley95 I appreciate the reply, and will try to brief. I've been racing for just 3 years and love the training. I have gone to physical therapy after a couple injuries and have been told to strengthen my posterior chain via RDL, deadlift, ETC. The 2 times I've lifted the day before running, I have gotten injured. Groin and hamstring forced me to sit out my last race on DEC 11th. Should I try lifting and biking? Switch to smaller sessions and go same day? I'm really looing for self assessment tools to know what and when to back off vs just push through. Love the grind of your channel!

Bit embarrassing to have the first two comments but just seeing your speed in your bike ride, a question: do you have any tips for getting faster on the bike?
I can go for 4-5 hours (maybe more, I haven't tried yet) and my HR is fine - usually averaging around 145bpm for the duration. I tend to have 600m or so of climbing on my 60-80km rides, so it's not exactly mountainous. But I find my legs tiring very quickly when I try to average over 25kph.
For context, I'm usually around 30kph on the flat but down just below the 20 mark on the hills. I also cycle out on busy London roads, which might slow me down a bit, too - and the stopping and starting takes a bit more out of the legs.
I do train some intervals in the week, so I have a bit of speed in my legs, but it doesn't seem to result in much overall speed increase over longer distances.
Anyway, any tips would be appreciated. I'm building up to a triathlon and right now I can manage the volume but my speed on the bike will undoubtedly leave me back of the pack. Thanks!

Do you feel like you can just completely smoke any roadie on the road considering you're built like a track/fixed gear cyclists? nothing ego related, just wondering if speed is the perk of being a hybrid athlete

Shit aint that big of a deal. When you're exercising all day long, especially. When you're working full time and /or have kids, that's the shit I want to hear more of.

@@ferguscrawley95 I don't know - do you work a gig outside of exercising? I mean, for sure props being a bigger dude who's well rounded. Def an inspiration to folks like me, who are also big and aim to be multifacted. But if exercising all day is your job and you're making a living from it, it's not much different that someone being good at their non physical job. To get long runs / rides in, I have to get up before dawn and still keep up with fam life when everybody wakes up, then do the 9-5 thing, then get chores done after heads are in bed.
