Maria Callas sounded great till before her death. With her solid technique and music geniality she always sang absolutely fantastic. Oh I wish people will get this thing of losing weight had an influence on her voice. Yes personal tragedy, the whole saga with Onassis, did influence her singing for a while but recordings made in the late 60's and even when she was giving master classes at Julliard in the 70's she sounded fantastic. Di Stefano is also brilliant in this recording. Love ❤ you Maria for ever. Thank you for posting this Titonut. Thank you for keeping her in our memories and that we can listen to the best soprano ever.
Un brivido l'ascolto di questo esaltante duetto dell'Aida..... La loro popolarità si spiega con quel rapporto viscerale, immediato che stabilivano con il pubblico per le vie maestre del sentimento e della sincerità..... Ascoltare Pippo e Maria le impronte inconfondibili e incancellabili delle due voci più amate di tutti i tempi è semplicemente FANTASTICO!
Callas in the '70s was better than many of us lyric singers in our apogee! Di Stefano is great here too!

These recordings show Stefano was right, Maria did not lose her voice shelost her confidence. Imagine f she was working again with Di Hildago. she wouldhave gotten that wonderful voice of hers in line and working again.
I agree with what you say, Maria lost her confidence, she studied a little with de Hidalgo but her teacher told her that she still trusted her voice, her depression did the rest. Thank you for your valuable comments , and Welcome . !

Au lieu de comparer Callas et Di Stefano a eux-mêmes quand ils étaient "en voix", comparez les à la plupart des chanteurs qu'on peut entendre aujourd'hui... Beaucoup d'entre eux aimeraient surement ne plus avoir de voix comme eux et un tel engagement. Respect...
L'intelligence musicale et l'art inimitable de Maria sont toujours présents dans cet enregistrement . Hélas la voix de la divine n'est plus là ,et on peut comprendre qu'elle se soit opposée à la diffusion de cet enregistrement .

This isn't a statement about one's own sensuality, as you proclaim. It's just a description of the forests (plural) without any allusion to herself or something else. The phrase, in Italian: là, tra foreste vergini (that's an "i" and not "e") has a very concrete meaning. It indicates: there, among virgin forests.

E vero Tito, non fu Autorizzata per Maria , ma altre motivi dopo la morte de Callas fu diverse !

I do not agree with you.. you are comparing her to her hey day, not the mid sixties where her voice needed slot of work . This voice shows she was working on it. Compare this duet to the one she does with correlli in 64 where he criticizes she did not sing out... Well on this recording she sings out !
Un duetto, inciso in condizioni precarie per entrambi, che non aggiunge nulla alla loro arte ma toglie e appanna la loro grandezza passata. Vorrei sapere perchè lo hanno inciso! Mah.
And ! un duetto di Prova ! e non e piacutto a Maria . Non fu aprobato per lei ! Ma, come sempre tutto si vedi a la luce questo e come la situazione di suo vocalizo privato . Maria staba in megliore condisione vocali qui su concerti di 1974 . La Autoestima e il Panico Scenico in questo periodo fu Moltissimo

Maria! not , but it was still edited . They were just tests. Then he recovered much of what he thought was lost, his security and his voice improved; the rest of his interpretation always remained intact. His medicines weakened his Great Instrument with his depression.
This is way better than the corelli version recorded inthe mid 60s Callas strikes the fortes forte and frankly Di Stefano is better than Corelli It is far superior

Callas' voice is pretty threadbare by this point - barely listenable. And di Stefano shouldn't be singing this stuff either - it's far too heavy for him.

@@titonut1 This is a rehearsal, yes! However, even the concerts of that period (1972-73) show the same quality of voice: weak and mostly chest (low notes) or nasal (top notes) unfortunately. She seems to have totally lost confidence in herself and her singing, by that time.
