I'm new here. The others that comment know their stuff. All I know is that I fell in love with her voice when I was 10 years old. This unbelievable woman made me weep. I did not understand or even know the words or their meaning, just she made my heart pound and the tears flow from my eyes.......10 years old.....to this day the same thing. God Bless and keep Her. God Bless you for being here if your reading this. What words are left? This incredible, beautiful voice. There just are no words. Just a 10 year old girl....weeping at this magic not understanding the power but being moved by it. Thank you God for such a thing of beauty
She could have sung for another 5 or 10 years. All she needed was confidence. You can see how much she had prepared herself for those concerts. A pity they were unforgivable. It doesn’t matter, Maria. You ARE the best!
She sounds fantastic here. She had obviously recovered a lot of what she seemed to have lost during the 60s as her upper range sounds a lot less constricted here than in years prior. So sad she died just three years after this.
The world lost her too early only age of 53 What I have never ever had understood..I have understood at after death of Onassis..she lost enjoy of living..tooking pils to sleep and wake up..etc..what has been reason to her heartattact..😢😢😢😢
Merci OperaMy World!
0:57 Suicidio! (La Gioconda) 6:22 Voi lo sapete (Cavalleria Rusticana) 10:57 Sola, perduta (Manon Lescaut) 16:34 Vissi d’arte (Tosca) 20:19 Tu che le vanità (Don Carlo) 30:27 Habañera (Carmen) 35:24 O mio babbino caro (Gianni Schicchi)
Any late Callas fascinates me. It's not about flaws - it's about the sheer musicianship. She sounds in great shape this whole recital, but Tu che la Vanita is just beautiful. I wonder what would have happened if she'd lived longer. Amazing artist
I saw her in this tour in Chicago at the Lyric Opera. She sang at least as well there as here but that was not what just blew me away. All of us in the audience knew we would be hearing less than what we could hear on recordings. We also knew that we would still hear the great interpretive expressiveness applied to everything she sang. What those of us who had never seen her live got in addition was one of the most fascinating acting performances I have ever seen. With each aria as the piano began the introduction she seemed to disappear and in her place was whichever character she was singing. Her body movements, use of her hands, her expressive face and eyes allowed this even though there was no scenery and no costume. It was what I believe showed the ancient magical meaning of the word glamour. For me, it allowed me to more fully understand what seeing her in a fully staged performance must have been like for the audience.
Is this the recital that I commented on where she sung Verdi Don Carlos Elisabeth aria....from recent? She was so good in vocal shape. And did a great job. Hear how she balanced the voice and her registers. Nothing wrong, NOTHING!!!!! Pitch perfect and so youthfully. Here we can hear La Divina wasn't on her last days vocally. If she'd only would have lived longer.
Then after she died he pretended like it didn’t happen so he and Zeffirelli could grab the spotlight to make that documentary. Low blow to a great artist!
While she sings well here, you do heat a difference between her execution of these arias in 1974 and twenty years earlier. The production is different. However her musicianship and musicality are the same.

@@alexandercallasti3420 Maria was an 11. I love the bit at the beginning - 'Can you hear me?' I recommend Maria Callas: Verdi Arias III (1964-69).
Absolutely AMAZING. CALLAS ETERNA

In the months before she died, she was studying the role of Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther, and was going to sing it with Placido Domingo!

I love it when she says, 'Can you hear me.'

Callas Does Dallas
And the critics tore her apart. So much so that it ended her friendship with John Ardoin. She was magnificent! I love her, delighted to hear this…

Is this available on CD?
No!!
@@OperaMyWorld That's a shame - a bootleg 'Callas in Dallas' would have been great.

Of course! In this recital She was 51 years old!!! Not in her 20s-30s!
She got her voice fuller at the end of 1974! Listen to her Fukuoka, recorded on October 1974,recital on my channel!

Wasn't it just a few months or a year before she died that she was recorded accompanying herself singing Ah Perfido?
It was actually on March 1974! Ah Perfido was recorded in March 1976! She died 16 September 1977!
Most of the singing is really good... she just lost all control in and out of her chest voice...
