Cuz ive been looking into this keyboard since it was pretty as hell, but most of the customer reviews comments i've seen said they didn't like it, whether they received defected product, key registering before "click" sound, typos like "sssss" instead of "s" , and switch broke after 2 months of use

    As someone who prefers things like the magic keyboard and things like that instead of mechanical stuff. Trying to get into low profile mechanical keyboards like this was hard since each video was by someone who’s been using mechanicals for years. Thanks for doing this. Just my opinion, but I will never understand why people pay so much for such simple peripherals like a keyboard besides the lame aesthetic and prestige reasons. At 300-1000usd for a keyboard sounds totally not worth it for me. I could literally get a midrange graphics card with that money.

    I like you mention about the spacebar and command key position. Not many reviewers mention it. Only a few keyboards in the market have mac command-spacebar position layout. With the longer spacebar layout on mac environment, I find that it's not bad but it'd be better with the shorter spacebar. Nice review, thanks :)

    Great review, although lacking a gamer perspective. I game and feel that this keyboard is the #1 all-round low profile mechanical keyboard that is good for gaming, design, office work, and aesthetics. Truly a work of art and at such an amazing price!

    • @119Agent
      @119Agent 3 года назад +1

      Interesting.... I don't think this keyboard is designed for gaming nor it is targeted to gamers. But if it works for you great. I have to have a full-blown mech keyboard for gaming (which I don't really do anymore) but I can't use a mech keyboard for coding or long typing sessions. The flat keys and low profile travel distance is an absolute must.

      @itsmylife09 4 года назад

      @@fuwatsumi I live in Germany and it arrived in 10 days. (Red Switches) It is nice and handy. RGB is completely useless for me. The first thing I do is turn off the lights. I am a software developer and I got used to using mac mini magic keyboard. Arrow keys just underneath the enter key. So my hands are not moving a lot over the keyboard so I can type fast. But keychron has arrow keys on the right side of the enter. I did not think that is gonna be a problem for me :)
      Another thing is I use cmd + c or v or x (copy, paste, cut). When I am pressing the cmd key my finger hurts. So I removed the keycap and turn it upside down :) No pain anymore.
      But I return back to my old magic keyboard. I am much more productive with it. I use keychron for gaming only.
      Another thing is it is pretty flat. There is no leg. If you want some nice angle you must put a book under it.
      I think it is making less noise than in the video.

    • @itsmylife09
      @itsmylife09 4 года назад

      @@fuwatsumi Bluetooth connection is amazingly fast. Cable connection is also nice. The package was nicely prepared. The only problem is I cannot give up on my habits. If the arrow keys would be right under the enter key or more clearly, the part on the right-hand side (arrow key panel and insert, delete key block) would be gone, it might have chance to be my coding keyboard :)

    • @119Agent
      @119Agent 3 года назад

      It really it is focused on a specific audience which I happen to fall into. I see a lot of reviews from primarily gamers who don't understand who this keyboard is targeted to. I switch back and forth between a Macbook Pro keyboard, Apple chicklet keyboard, and Surface keyboard (Typer cover and Brydge) so I wanted to consolidate to one desk keyboard for both devices. This allows me to do that and keep a similar profile and tactile strength to keep a consistent experience. With a standard mechanical keyboard I get a lot of accidental types or missed types and the curved keys really don't provide a good ergonomic experience.

    Bought this a month ago, and immediately I noticed that the key caps are not tightly fitted in their place. To be brief, the keyboard feels typing on a hard-spring marshmallow. Every key feels harder than normal linear, or red switch, does, and pressing force isn't consistent among the keys. I've used the Apex pro from steelseries and cherry red; typing on both of them feel great, but the experience with K1 feels absolutely frustrating.

    Nice review man. I too have been using the apple magic keyboard (the latest one) for yearsss but them not having backlighting is really bugging me. So I looked at keychron specifically the K1v4, but I'm also into gaming on my Mac (CS:GO), so I wasn't too sure of how the low profile keys would be for gaming. In the end I went for the Royal Kludge RK71, not a low profile keeb, but still has the Mac 'command' button and layout functions and half the price of the K1 and is RGB and has bluetooth. The RK71 is also my first mech keyboard and this will be my testing phase with it for work and game. Will keep an eye out on Keychron's K1 and possibly the K6 when I do intend to splash my cash on them. Thanks for the review!

    Keep in mind that the Keychron warehouse is in Hong Kong. It ships from there, and if you don't like the product, you're responsible for returning it to there. Which means, effectively, there are no returns. Keychron doesn't offer a return label, so you can pony out more money than you spent on the actual keyboard, trying to return it.

    Huge fan of this review! Instant sub
    Really glad you brought up the spacebar size/non-Mac modifier key placement
    I had to start using caps lock as cmd because my hand just can’t do the stretch required with this layout. Opt becomes basically unusable because it’s too far to the L for the thumb and not far enough for another finger (for me)
    On the K3, this problem gets worse because there’s no R opt, which I use for a lot of special characters. I was forced to remap ctrl to opt to have one, but that leaves me with the L opt being all the way to the side
    Unfortunately due to PCB availability, it looks like very few mechanical keyboards use 4 keys to the L of spacebar and a 5-5.75u spacebar instead of 6.25 like this one even though Lenovo & Apple fn key placement seems the best considering it’s the only single-side modifier. Even this keyboard oddly placed it between the 3 main modifiers instead of to the far R

    If you mainly want it to light up white you shouldn't choose the RGB version.
    Because probably (if they didn't install 4 LEDS per key, which...they never do:D) the RGB version consums way more power if you set it to white because in order to get white all three LED have to light up to combine while the white version just lights up one (white) LED per key.

    at 12:19 you are struggling because you are using your fingers in a highly wrong way 😁. See that another _Command_ key on the right? Also have you noticed that _Control,_ _Option,_ _Command_ and _Shift_ keys are duplicated and reflected vertically? You should just use both hands and map all the keys according to the touch typing method. All normal keyboards are designed for the touch typing method and once you learn it in a right way, the form factor of the keyboard and keys will be quite irrelevant. For the rest, pretty good and detailed review 👏.

    Why don't keyboard companies open-source the firmware? What do they have to lose? I don't think there could be much of a super secret special algorithm to handle keyboard switches. It should be some stupid code to poll the keys. So annoying when so many companies force their crappy proprietary driver or app down to our throats.

    There is one thing I do not like with this keyboard is the weak signal of the Bluetooth connection. Instead of having the laptop in front of me like in this video, I have it in a docking station below my desk. Just the small thickness of my desktop is enough to block the signal and I cannot maintain a reliable connection. I wish Keychron offers a 2.4GHz wireless connection in addition to the Bluetooth connection. And Bluetooth has a much worse lag compared to 2.4GHz wireless.

      As far as I can tell you cannot remap the keys on the keyboard itself. Any remapping will have to be on some external software. The keyboard will work with iOS.

    • @wonked

      The light is always on when it's plugged in. I've also noticed that even if you use it wired mode the light will still sometimes go red to indicate it's charging, that probably means the keyboard stops charging when it's full and tops itself up again when the battery has dropped a little. This is probably a good thing to maintain battery health.

    Hi, i just want to ask about the bluetooth latency. Is there any noticeable difference between wired and bluetooth? Thanks!

    • @wonked
      @wonked  4 года назад

      I usually just use it in wired mode. I have noticed that if I'm downloading something the WiFi activity actually interferes with the Bluetooth and it causes it to drop in and out of connection but I might be in a unique environment where my router is right under my computer. Without the interference there is no noticeable difference between wired and Bluetooth.
