Its most likely because Mary was fairly new to D&D and it's kind of a kill joy to deny her for trying fun stuff. Its much celebrated guest session after all, so Im sure Matt was being courteous to keep the fun going. 😂
This was a comment I've seen three times and liked each time...removing the damn like requiring me to like it again. I love you guys

The book salesman that got Vex to pay full price, I feel like he must've gained 2 levels out of that
I hated how she treated him so much. That and last episode's potion salesman. Sure, he overcharged Grog by an arm and a leg for the potion of stone-giant's strength, but Matt's rant about "Oh, I only buy potions that save my life" was entirely justified. If you have the money but you never spend it, it's the same as not having it in the first place.
Fortunately, I see Matt gets her for that a few times. Especially with books.

@pgabrielrr Calamity is a prequel mini-series set right before the end of the Age of Arcanum. It's honesty some of the best d&d playing I've ever seen, and it's only 4 episodes, there's barely any spoilers or anything either, just references like Purvan Appearing for a bit.
Percy: *The smartest, most reasonable, most eloquent, and most practical character at the table*
Also Percy:
Taliesin's distillation of Percy's character is so perfect: Percy believes he is the only adult in the world.
We got two tries each!
I would say Vex is.
Percy's had some really bad ideas. The whole thing up making a pact with a smoke demon. Couple episodes ago he wanted to team up with a gang that probably would betray them.
And Keyleth actually. But people don't seem to agree with her. I actually agree with her morality. I'm fine with killing enemies but not betraying friends or Allies.
@@mr.e7541 was he avared of the pact he made though? From what I got he genuinely believed it was a dream and was confused when it started to speak with him in the Briarwoods ark
@Anna Perminova he wanted to make a deal with the villainous gang a few eps ago. The theme of making deals with untrustworthy enemies is a common theme with him.
No hate towards Percy though. All the characters have bad points about them. This is often what happens when you have three-dimensional characters who aren't perfect
Vax: "Hm, my ears feel really hot this morning, I don't know why that is".

Grog "killing" Vax is one of the funniest things I have yet seen in this series. Travis's acting just sells it so hard.
Adam F Travis is one of the most amazing people, he’s so humble and doesn’t try to shove HIS actions down everyone’s throat, but when he DOES chime in, it’s pure gold. Travis/grog is my favorite person ever
I liked it when he lost his wisdom saving throw on the sword when trying to switch to his hammer. Instead of just re-equiping it, he acted out what a mind-controlled Grog would say. It was awesome and drew me in so much!

And then... 4:33:50 true to Scanlan’s nature, when Vex returns... he gave her the gold. Yo, I nearly lost it, was so close to tears 😭
@@livinfine909 How is it not role-playing? I think she's playing her character flaw.
@@curlywhites She took that character flaw because she is greedy herself. Check out campaign 2 for proof of this (spoilers: her new character, Jester, like to give people too much money which causes Laura to break character multiple times in the story). I'm not saying that she's greedy all of the time or that she can't perform acts of selflesness, but Laura is absolutely a stubborn and greedy person.
@@filipferencak2717 I'm impressed you know someone so well by watching them play a game. People act differently in a game than they do in real life. In fact, that's why people play games: to become someone else. Do you think I like to shoot dogs in real life? No. But in a game? Damn right I do. Now are you going to say that Danny Smith is a dog killer?
@@curlywhites Well, since I've been watching them play multiple vastly different characters for years, I've picked up on a few things. It's absolutely possible to do so and I wouldn't even consider it difficult. I've seen Laura play multiple entirely different people. I can tell what's real and what is character choice by now and if you'ce seen both campaigns, you should be able to do so aswell.
She literarly broke character to scream at people not to waste money multiple times throughout campaign 2. Her campaign 2 character, Jester, is the opposite of greedy, so it was absolutely OOC and Laura even acknowledges it in one episode by screaming out "Don't waste that money!!! I mean, go for it, I'm Jester (frustrated look)." She's also the only one out of the entire group who Matt has to pander to on an episodic basis. Thankfully, it's only small things, so I don't mind (a certain, should-be-dead weasel from campaign 2 comes to mind, but there are other things).
Poor Kashaw. He kisses one druid once, and then her maybe lover is hitting on him, his twin sister is plotting his death, a gnome is trying to hook him up with the druids maybe lover, like this poor man is just trying to take care of his best friend and he's just having to deal with a bunch of dumbasses because she's too good.
That and he did kinda potentially mark Keyleth for death/eternal torture when he kissed her. Lets not forget that Cashew is married and his wife is basically the Goddess of Sadism.
That could end very badly.
@@Im-Not-a-Dog holy shit
@@Im-Not-a-Dog and not for nuttin but ... that kiss didn't involve consent. Not a fan
@@Im-Not-a-Dog huh. that might explain a lot about... things.

Because the twins they aere expecting after all Vox Maxhina is over would been soooo weird.
That dawning horror when Laura goes from "damn I'm unconscious, oh well" to seeing Matt's wordless look and slowly realizing what has actually happened was just terrible
Can't mess around with nectrotic damage, man
@@carlyaskren359 It actually wasn't because of nectrotic damage. Nectrotic damage doesn't do anything special, just like how fire and cold damage don't do anything other than be affected by immunities/resistances. It's just that nectrotic based spells tend to do stuff like this so people associate nectrotic damage with bad things. In all likelihood this was actually an AoE Finger of Death spell or some other spell that would instantly kill someone if they dropped below 0 hp.
if you keep watching through the ritual you can see marisha literally shaking, jeus thats commitment to charaters
And what I always hated was Liam/Vax put the entire blame on Tal/Percy when had it not been for Laura/Vex's "greed", she wouldn't have died.
@@Altyrell that's true but liam plays vax in a way... In Vax's mind his sister cant be at fault. Even if she jumped in front of a bullet, vax would blame the shooter and not Vex for getting in the way of the danger
The question "Does that bring you below 0?" after taking a bunch of Necrotic damage is potentially the scariest question a DM could ask.
I recently told my players I needed to take a couple minutes break and when they asked why I said "I'm deciding between Disintegrate, Finger of Death and Power Word Kill." The look of PANIC on their faces... 😂
(It all turned out fine! The necromancer wanted to be extra nasty and turn the paladin into a zombie to mock the party, but I rolled like shit and the paladin survived the hit! Should have gone with Power Word Kill.)
That and "Roll for System Shock".
God damn, I love Scanlan. If you pay attention during the big fight, you'll notice he chooses to support the team at every turn rather than heal himself, which very nearly gets him killed, like when they were fighting Rimefang. When you consider how Sam describes Scanlan as viewing life "without any real meaning" it really throws his actions into perspective, both when he's joking around with the team and when he's doing something incredibly dangerous on his own, like setting fire to that manor in Whitestone. If it makes for a good song, he doesn't care what happens to him.
As a side note, Sam was challenged by a fan on Twitter to work the word "underoos" into the stream somehow, with the promise of a donation if he pulled it off. You'll notice he not only does it (4:22:14), but he winks seconds later. Sam's a real stand-up kinda guy.
+ginganinja714 Ruddy genius, that guy. I keep saying, when I first started watching the show (way back in episode 1) I thought he came off as useless, obnoxious, comic relief. And he sure as hell is comic relief, but it's been a joy to watch Scanlan's confidence and Sam's confidence in playing him grow over the course of the show.
EnDSchultz agree so much with this. as much as Tiberius leaving the party upset me, I was happy to see Scanlan lose his focus of constant negative derision and be able to open up his character more
Sam is a blessing we don’t deserve
Scanlan and Grog....Why I watch.......
To be fair I doubt he could heal himself enough to take another hit like that either way.
Other than that I have to agree, he plays his character very well.
It’s honestly so unfair that Mary and Will can’t stay forever. Cause they should have stayed forever as permanent members.
I know! Mary's voice is so soothing.
Lauren Spano and will is so funny
they would have been great additions to the crew permanently
Or had them do their own campaign with their characters (with will wheaton! Lol)
Maybe we'll see them with the Mighty Nein
It's pretty funny how Kima was present for both Beholder fights and still has yet to truly fight one
It would help if Matt actually remembered that she is a Paladin and that Paladin's are immune to fear.
@@smurphftw2008 paladons become immune to fear at level 10. And no it wouldnt have helped, she was out of the fight due to the telekinesis, not the fear.
@@sillyking1991 Well she was feared the round before and missed her attack. While I like the idea that she is constantly out of commission during these fights, there's no way she's lvl 9 when the party is lvl 11+
@@Zero_Shift I'm guessing (forever dm you can drop your condolences in the box) that Matt was subtly saying this is your fight, not the npc's
@@calebfreeman8284 I mean that's true but it's one npc that is a "reveered hero" they specifically asked to join them for assistance. There's one thing to make it a running gag that she's stun chained but to never give her any chance to attack is just kinda sad. There's stealing the spotlight and then there's making a strong, badass char useless on purpose
Sam jokes about "Dead! Instant death!" but you can see Matt biting his lip.
I think this was the last joke of the night. edit* it wasn't, but the tone definitely changed after.
I thought they showed way too little deference to the Raven Queen. They could have met with some of her clerics or prayed or asked for the relics somehow. The other deities gave them some help. It's terrifying and wonderful how a single mistake drastically changed the direction of Vax and Percy's characters, their relationship, and almost ended Vex's life or potentially Vax's if the Raven Queen had taken him up on his original offer.
This was the point where I think a lot of the players started seriously thinking about the potential consequences of their actions.
also, percy and vax's talk before the tomb is absolutely heartbreaking in retrospect.
It's a little hypocritical, though. Vax later criticizes Percy for being reckless and getting his sister killed, but Vax did the very same thing during the Briarwood arc, when Vax's recklessness caused Cassandra's throat to be slit. She was healed before it was detrimental, but a few unlucky dice rolls could have gotten her killed.
Cassandras throat slit was actually an illusion iirc. Used to gain their trust for her betrayal. The bard there had an escape already planned (but got slammed with a counterspell or something, I don't recall).
Regardless, the principle of the action is the same. I like Vax, most of the time, but he can be very narrow-sighted sometimes.
I agree. Sometimes he's one of my favorites, but he makes some hasty (no pun intended) decisions. Also, Cassandra actually had her throat slit and was making death saves, I believe. @Joseph McNamara.
I've rewatched the part when Matt realises what's going to happen to Vex, followed by everyone else slowly realising, about a million times. It's so tense, and there's a few seconds when Matt is just staring sadly and every single eye in the room is on him in utter terror.
The investment they all have is wonderful, and it makes every second more intense.
The palpable dread i felt when at 2:36:42 matt said "...set of doors." their arch(ed) nemesis.
This is a very under rated comment. That was hilarious.
The doors managed to pass their stealth checks on Vax and Zahra
You'd better hope their victory doesn't hinge on their success against these fastidious foes.
I think they handled it.
Was "arched" ment to be a pun?
LIam's acting was truly remarkable. But the pain in Laura's face when she realized Vex had died was truly heartbreaking. I think people underestimate how much creators put into our characters in any medium.
Side note, Will was incredible as Kash. I wouldn't mind seeing that character more in his own stories.
The first group I played with, I mentioned something about how an Etsy shop makes hoodies based on your D&D character. The DM replied "People play for that long?!" Turns out they had a habit of quitting/restarting every 6 months or so. Defs wasn't the right fit for me (I adored my characters and the idea of ditching/forgetting them after a matter of months broke my heart.)
At this point, Laura has been playing Vex'ahlia for 4 *years* . That's her baby!

Bold of them to assume we need Matt's recap every episode as if we haven't all been binge watching.
I've been searching for the timestamps for the last 5 minutes xD. Gahd
THAT'S because these streams didn't happen as they are happening now. So multiple weeks or so have gone by on THEIR end in between sessions
Dragonic Starblade Weekly sessions with a week skipped here and there. We get to bask in the glory of a fully completed campaign while viewers at the time had to wait on episodes.
I wanna like this, but it’s at 666 so
*Stares in ep28 to here in less than a week :|*
I highly recommend that you watch the episode before coming to the comments, because of SPOILERS!
+Gabriel Macena Thanks for the public service. And watch the WHOLE EPISODE, people. You'll regret being spoiled.
+Gabriel Macena Thank you.

+Gabriel Macena You da real MVP
I keep forgetting that Mary isn't British. Her Zahra accent is incredibly convincing
I was actually so shocked to find out she’s American. I was completely convinced. And I’m English as well, so I can usually see right through Americans doing English accents. I feel like I’ve betrayed my country
I looked her up initially out of curiosity last episode. A little while ago, I looked her up again, cuz I was like, "...She's British, right? Wait, she's not? Was she...like...born in the UK? No? Her accent is just god-tier? Cool cool."
O_O She's not British?? O_O
She's one of my favorite voice actresses of all time. Great singing voice too.
Her songs on the Silent Hill soundtracks are awesome. I listen to them all the time.
I just have to say, Percy is such an amazing character. He's so subtle, have always had my eye on him, but after the Briarwood arc, he's become that much more amazing. I used to adore Vax - i still do - but Percy has sneaked up on me, and laid his gentle hands on my heart with his quiet, nerdy nature and intellectal wit with his badass moments. Talisen, you are truly a master of character creation. Both Percy AND Molly are such intriguing characters that i simply can't get enough of.

@@isaachalsey4199 I was thinking the same thing we are like episode 92 and it still hurts me
Cheers for Caduceus?
El Bruce I think this was made BC: Before Caduceus... anyways... same
Wanna know something funny almost none of them planned their characters originally but they are all still great
Poor Liam. Whenever he starts to do his sneak attack stuff and adding multipliers there's always a misunderstanding somewhere. Thankfully he's really good natured about it and Matt has the patience of a saint.
The screwups with his character's rules on Liam's part are mainly* from him being on prescriptions from having a major issue with his hearing called hyperacusis. it is a rare incurable hearing issue that causes him severe pain if he hears sounds of certain frequencies, and he was (at the time of this episode) being mis-prescribed medications by his doctors that made it worse since the prescriptions totally messed with his short term memory and concentration.
this was especially evident during the debacle with the Clasp's six-language-locks door a few episodes ago, it is why he was totally unable to comprehend what the whole party was telling him to do. and he only got his hyperacusis properly diagnosed almost a year after this episode aired (around E72-E80)
*And to top all of the bs he was going through off, his mom died around 4 days before this episode launched, so his mind was hardly in a state to be thinking of his character's rule minutiae....
@@sydney4814 Yep. Sadly a lot of people don't know about the issues he was having at the time. With that said I do think Liam falls into the same category as a lot of rogue players thinking they have advantage on everything and that everything is a sneak attack.
Even Matt messes up.
Sneak Attack
Beginning at 1st level, you know how to strike subtly and exploit a foe's distraction. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll. The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon.
You don't need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn't incapacitated, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll.
The amount of the extra damage increases as you gain levels in this class, as shown in the Sneak Attack column of the Rogue table.
Assassinate
Starting at 3rd level, you are at your deadliest when you get the drop on your enemies. You have advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn't taken a turn in the combat yet. In addition, any hit you score against a creature that is surprised is a critical hit.
There are multiple times Liam doesn't get sneak attack attacking turn one before anyone else. He doesn't roll with advantage, other his critical. I understand from swapping to 5e from pathfinder and they need to learn skills. Liam's really good at not fighting the DM but if he knows his ability it should be argued.
@@pyromaniac9422 Don't forget they're also playing with house rules on some of this. A lot of the time what makes sense in the game doesn't make sense using real world logic, and it sounds like Matt and Liam made compromises in the past on how their version of sneak attack works. Matt's not perfect, none of us are, but it seems like there's always a misunderstanding with sneak attack. At least for a time there was as I'm much further in the campaign now. Now he just has an infinite amount of uses of Luck lol.
To be fair, the Assassin feat is confusing.
Omg, everyone talking about the reactions to Vex's scene. Kills me that nobody calls out Travis. The look of complete concern for his wife knowing how hard this is going to tear her apart.
I was thinking the same thing. His face. So concerned for Vex and for Laura.
And that he can't do anything! Grog has NOTHING to contribute, he's just gonna have to pick up on the car ride home
It really is so sweet of him. Certain players, like him and Liam basically (and to some degree Sam) can take their own character's death in stride (even excitement) for the sake of a good game and narrative, but he knows Laura just isn't into that and doesnt try to force her to get over it. I think Liam understood that about her, too. And so Laura got Vex back, but at a price. Great stuff.
“You f’kin died” comment from grog was PERFECT
Stop being greedy about the loot 🤣 🤣, I was dying when Matt hit her with 56 points. It was awesome.
OMG. The conversation between Scanlan and Kashaw while they were on guard duty was comedic genius. 10/10.

Okay, so obviously, I’m a bit late here, but I just had to say that I absolutely LOVE Vax’s and Percy’s talk during their watch because it’s literally one of “the night talks” that one could have with their friend. Just a deep, honest talk in the middle of the night. It’s just so truthful and so believable and it’s soooo beautiful to me that their friendship is so deep and realistic. Their talent is unbelievable!
Right I just pictured two dudes out in a field sitting on a tailgate drinking beers while one unloads all the shit in their life on to their friend
Knowing what happens later in the episode and how that changes their relationship makes that scene even more gut wrenching to me
And Scanlan and Kash's talk too, I could just see them sitting there trying to be friendly but actually hating eachother. So funny.
(spoiler) I LOVE how Laura was so concerned for her character, but the moment she woke up she went for comedy.
Hey, to Vex, she was only knocked unconscious. She didn't know she died, how else would you react after suddenly dying without noticing then coming back to life.

I know we are all shaken up by Vex but I must address how awesome Scanlan was in this! That interaction with Kashaw, that burn on Vex, that Limerick, that tag team with Grog. He was awesome this episode!
On a side note, I love the face Matt gives when he rolled for the damages when the trap sprung. You can tell from his face he was like "oh crap they are not going to like this..."

I was so hoping she would look up and say, “ hello Matthew Mercer” in her vex accent
I love how calm Matt is during the whole resurrection thing. Good way to keep the players from panicking and doing something dumb.
Revivify is one of those spells every cleric should have prepared but hope they never have to use.
Its like a taser. But more 500g diamonds and less spasms
Revivify is the reason (in my head) why Sacred Flame and Toll The Dead are such powerful cantrips, so that the Cleric can continue to deal damage without having to sacrifice all their "make the party not-dead" spells.
I always keep revivify and gentle repose prepared

Matt’s home brew for resurrection spells is brutal. Taking a RAW spell and saying nope let’s play a mini game...
Perhaps, but more I think this was happening in a (former) temple of the goddess of Death just casting a spell would not be enough.
@@GeraldKatz Nah, it's his homebrew. Very fitting location for it to happen, but Matt always calls for a ritual for a resurrection, and has a DC that must be met for a success (to be altered by the ritual). I'm absolutely going to steal it for when I DM.
I highly recommend using it. I only did it once so far, but it was one of the most memorable sessions we ever had.
I think it really adds some nice tension. Makes death have some real weight if it isn't guaranteed
was gunna say they didn't do this shit when grog nearly died to kavarn.
1:16:36 I like how Taliesin, through Percy, is essentially voicing the things they discussed in the Q&As during their off weeks. Apparently it was a crazy moment of coincidental timing that just as they (particularly Vax) were questioning the direction and purpose of the group, Matt had been setting up the Chroma Conclave to attack at about the same time. They also basically concluded that as a group, they do generally good things, but they are kind of terrible people individually (except Pike). And now they are coming to grips with it in-character after the fact of them getting a new quest to distract them from their issues.
That means one year ago, from the time this episode came out, I realized that I *had* to find a D&D group. I bought the first Critical Role shirt with the character names. I found the best group at a local gaming store. What started out as come-and-go D&D, turned into a very close group. I can't express enough how grateful I am for this show. It pushed me, through severe anxiety, to try something new, and I will never be the same. :)
+Samantha Chen Not to be pedantic, but this episode only came out two months ago (March, 2016): they were referencing how it (the episode) was essentially their one-year anniversary from having started last year (March, 2015). Just saying... ;)
tideoftime While that is what I meant in my original comment, I can see that my wording was really terrible. I know they started in 2015, and I am 2months behind in viewing (2 little children running around makes it tough to keep up with a 3+ hour show). I simply meant that I was also celebrating my paper anniversary for joining a D&D group thanks to this show coming out 1 year and 2 months ago. :)

*Also Kima:* -is even less relevant than Trinket in every single fight-
Can't let party NPCs overshadow PCs. And Trinket is a part of Laura's character as a beast master ranger. And it isn't just fights as you tend to forget she's there unless Matt gives her something to do or decides to use her as his mouthpiece.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue Yeah, I know that. It's just funny how she keeps getting petrified/paralyzed/thrown into oblivion
@@mrcopycat2355 Ah, I see. Fate has designated her as comic relief. Though I will point out that it does happen to Grog a fair bit as well. But those instances are at least overshadowed by Grog's many moments of badassitude. Poor Kima.
It's absolutely hilarious to me that this happens to her because this never happens in campaign 2. Every single guest PC gets a HDYWTDT and is crucial to every fight they're thrown in. The NPC's that join the party are... Dagon, a guide who chooses to stay out of fights when he can, Willie, a golem servant, Kiri, a kenku child, and Essek, who proves to be very valuable but spoilers. Everyone that can be expected to fight, does. Maybe Matt learned from this? I feel very bad for Kima. She just wants to blow off some steam killing some stuff, is that too much to ask?
It’s not even a stats thing she just gets unlucky or is fighting things that can fly
I just burned through a Critter year in a month.
This is going to be hell when I have to play "Is it Thursday yet?"....
Mate, I just did it in a just over a week. Brain melting. XD
Don't you wish you were me? All of the first game and well into the second.
I'm not sure it's even been a week yet
I did it in 3 weeks ^^
I got so confused when they said one year anniversary. It's taken me a little under a month.
Who would've known years ago that Purvan's real voice is 2022 Batman by Brennan Lee Mulligan, but here we are
Hmm if you're a dead cleric and your party takes you to the temple of your diety do you get an employee discount on the fees to be ressurected?
Potentially reduce it to just the material components and waive the "service fee" for casting the spell itself.
Anything beyond that should probably be up to the circumstances. Died to a random hazard? Probably no extras. Died during a venture that could potentially further their deity's agenda or maybe trying to retrieve a relic of said deity? That's another story!
If you cant make your own resurrection equipment. Store bought is fine
Depends on what God and what circumstances.
Depends on your Province/State of residence.
they just pull it from the paycheck
This content really helps pass time, thanks Crit role! My grandmother passed away yesterday morning, she lived in the same household for all 23 years of my life so far and now the house feels so empty. But this world all of you created is fantastic, thank you.

DM: •airy sound effect•
Vex/Keyleth: •speak super slowly•
Grog: “How high are we?”
Mary comforting Laura is so sweet. That was a fucking emotional ride, y'all.
I just love how Mary is COMPLETELY unable to separate her love of Laura from Zahra's character. In-universe it doesn't super make sense that Zahra would feel as emotionally attached to someone she's spent so little time with, but it's just so sweet 🥹
@@MsCunningLinguistic are you rewatching this right now because of s2e3 of tlovm?? 👀👀👀
@@mineola_ I SURE AM, INTERNET FRIENDO 😭
It seems Kima has quite the unlucky streak from what I've seen so far in the series. I mean, she had her adventuring party killed in the Underdark, she was captured and tortured by Duregar for quite a while before the party found her, she was petrified by a Basilisk, petrified again by one of K'varn's eye beams, and now thrown into a pit by another beholder before even getting a chance to do anything.
+sephiose Her and Thorbir in the party at the same time would be quite catastrophic...
Auster
or a perfect match!
+sephiose I kinda get a feeling that this is building to some kid of a Shining Moment of her, like raming a dragon with a skyship or something.
+sephiose I think Matt just hits her with theese things to show the power of the Monster without damaging Vox Machina too much. He'd probably do it with other party NPCs if he used them more.
I feel like the battle against Thordak should be with all of them. As in they get every guest they've had since the dragons came, gather all of their allies, all in one game. Have a huge army up against him.
I was just thinking the same thing! As long as they keep Thorbir away from acid and have Percy blow on his dice they should be golden.
So true
I want that just so Gern can see Vex flying and be like "Is that my broom?!"
Dude, I was thinking that EXACT same thing while watching last episode. I sincerely hope that Matt does this.
revive clarota
Grogs reaction to the twins stuck in the mud is priceless!
Kimas reaction sealed the deal tho lol
You know what might have been a good idea? Stopping by the Raven Queen's temple in Vasselheim and requesting her permission to retrieve her artifact before just plundering the tomb.
Wow. That's such an easy thing to try lol, they went just about everywhere in Vasselheim but to her temple.
Forward thinking? In a DnD party? XD
the worst part about this is at the end of the previous episode that was on Percy's to-do list. To visit the Raven Queen temple
Hindsight is always 20/20
This party has a terrible memory lol. They have a Lance of Dragon Slaying in the bag of holding, but no one remembers that!
Holy wow Talison's reaction he barely said a word after that that happened with Vex! He can't stop apologizing either! Oh my heart!
Percy set off the trap for sure but it was 10000% Vex's fault for plopping herself into that blast zone because she heard "jewelry".
@@RogueAgentKorasi What even are you talking about. She literally said she wanted to see if it was safe to inspect, and wanted to roll for perception/investigation. That's like saying someone that came over too look at an interesting sight is at fault when someone comes careening off the road and hits them, at fault. 10000000000% Percy's fault for trying to take a legendary artifact from a sarcophagus in the lair of a beholder, without checking for traps.
It’s her obsession with loot that’s the problem. It’s gotten the party into trouble more than once. This time it just so happened to cost her life. Sort of.
@@yeetsmcgee1847 Keep tryna blame her for percy being a dumbass lmfao
@@ausear They're all dumbasses in their own ways. But they're loveable dumbasses.

Just....just LOOK at Matthew's face. Everyone is just bantering, making jokes, " Oh, I got a 1"
...and with a heavy sigh, Matthew starts rolling for damage.
His sadness gets deeper and deeper every minute. I can only imagine what this would've done to the story if Kash did NOT have that spell ready...
...God Laura's expression😭😭😭
Sam- “Instant death”
I love how Sam always makes that joke about "instant death", but boy oh boy...He knew.
@@MonyTon And Laura, to this day in almost every single fight, shouts "oh my god, we're gonna die!"
I was looking intently at Matt's face the whole time it's happening. The slow realization and sudden tone change by the cast makes it more painful to watch
In all honesty, I kinda hate that Kash was here for this one. Matt's revivify rules make things far too easy on them and she shouldn't be so damn greedy
One guest delivers the final blow and the other guest revives an ally... fucking epic guests!!
revives how?!
It's DnD man, it is hard to die in yes, but it makes the game more fun.
anal revivification
ABEGIOSTZ hahahaha I just noticed the mistake
You know, of all the incredible things he does in this campaign alone, Matt's absolute unyielding poker face in dire emotional situations is one of the most amazing things about him.
But his inability to hold it together when Sam makes the most awful/horrific jokes makes it even more impressive/hilarious
I started Critical Role with campaign 2 and I'm catching up with this one as a prequel in between current episodes. This is up there for one of the most intense sessions I've seen thus far. Matthew Mercer is a huge inspiration of mine as a new DM. I love this game and community
The fact that Percival Fredrikstein Kowwolski DeRolo III in canon rhymes in his sleep(1:25:09), is the single funniest thing about his character.
The von Musel title not getting any recognition. Ice cold.
Man, I remember when my party had an insta-death moment like this. One of our two Rangers (I was the other) touched the Wand of Orcus, and it shattered her mind. Our cleric wanted to use Revivify, but we were within a huge anti-magic field and surrounded by zombies, so our DM gave us a skill challenge. Somehow, we all made it out of the city, largely unscathed, in 36 seconds, and managed to bring her back. Some of the most intense DnD I've ever played.
Kima being absolutely useless is my favorite running gag so far. She was the help they received to help fight a threat to the entire world's economy and safety and she gets YEETed by a Behlolder in the first encounter, after being turned to stone in the first. World's fucked ya'll
She was most useful in the throne room fight, where she got turned to stone
I find frustrating that Kima, a Paladin, keeps not being immune to fear effects.
@@smurphftw2008 Noted this, but with so much players and enemies, is expected to Matt forget some things
@@Rellyks to be fair, that aura comes online at lvl 10. Its possible that matt hasnt updated her since the underdark (where the party was less than that)
@@sillyking1991 I've also noticed that Matt either plays with different spell concentration rules or that is one of the rules he most commonly makes mistakes with. One example is when Scanlan lost concentration on Bigbys hand during the monk fight. The concentration rules say when you take damage the DC of the check is either 10 or half of the damage you took, depending on which is higher, Scanlan took 14 damage each from 2 hits, and with war caster rolled nothing lower than like 13 which would have passed but Matt said it failed
