I think that Craven Edge is one of the reasons Travis is playing as a Hexblade in the next campaign. He probably liked the roleplay aspects that came with it and wanted some more of it.
I think he liked the idea of summoning a sword's power, but at the same time be at the mercy of a powerful demonic force.
That and he liked the look of warlock from the hunt episodes side mission from S1

I did not like this line. Grog didn't care whether he survived afterwards, he just wanted to defeat Kevdak. He just wanted Kevdak to fall by his hands, not caring how it is done whatsoever.

@@batuhanmutlay2641 ...WOW do you not understand the situation. First off, Craven Edge is influencing Grog. It's not that Grog wants to specifically kill Kevdak with Craven Edge. It's Craven Edge making him want to never use anything else. Secondly, Grog wanted to beat Kevdak. Grog didn't want to train a dragon to kill Kevdak. Grog didn't want Percy to invent a cannon to kill Kevdak. Grog didn't want to petition a God to aid him in killing Kevdak. GROG wanted to kill Kevdak. The whole point of that line is Percy saying that killing with this weapon isn't Grog doing what Grog wants. It would be Craven Edge using Grog to feed. Percy, who has more experience in this than anyone else on that team, is trying to stop Grog from making his mistake.
It's like a chemical addiction. You may have your body, but you aren't making decisions for yourself anymore. Your just trying to feed that hunger. It's not you anymore.

It's percy. He is smart and Wise, but Stupid and Douchey as hell.
We all love him for that.

That moment is such a perfect encapsulation of Grog's perspective on life and death, and it blows me away that Travis can come up with stuff like that. The characterization with the C.R characters is so incredible that it's better than most tv shows.
They've had more time with these characters than most TV shows and are allowed their own dialogue and development. Think of it this way, the average 1-hour TV show lasts...20 hours in a season, excluding commercials. There are almost 400 hours of footage for Critical role. A lot of time to know who their characters are - and as an actor, I would almost kill for this opportunity (well...not quite, but still, some of these people take my craft to the highest level, and I am blown away.
It’s definitely a time consuming thing, but as a D&D player I find myself thinking about my characters in my spare thinking time (basically what I do when I am in the car). I had a character who would do anything to protect those who need it (yay 3.5 paladins) including giving her own life to save them. At the final battle I told the DM that I was perfectly fine with my character dying as long as it wasn’t an epic death and she went out in a blaze of glory and didn’t go out like Keyleth and the lava (I almost did in our first session, natural 1s are fun). It’s a good mentality for Grog, and suits him well.

Listening to this at work and it just occurred to me....this arc isn't about a barbarian and a sword. It's about addiction, intervention, and recovery. Holy smokes.

Watching this, so far my favorite part is every time Travis takes out Craven Edge Taliesin smiles. Percy may feel guilty but Taliesin is delighted af.
My GM is using Craven's Edge under the name "Fairmere" for our low-wisdom fighter. Watching this, I am now terrified.

@@kiddo6393 The campaign ended too early for much to become of it. It may have been stolen? Or it may have been given to the NE Paladin after the fighter who had it died and then came back.

The funny thing is, had Craven Edge been a finesse weapon, Percy totally would have used it. I would have loved to have seen their "partnership".

@@ayylucard1355 I'm not convinced, he was pretty unhappy about losing that gun. He was arrogant enough to think he could control Orthax for his own purposes and that the trade is worth it. Percy/Talesein was unhappy about Sam finding out about Craven Edge and telling Pike about it for "taking away all their cool stuff".
pretty sure matt made it a greatsword so thst grog would be the one to use it.

Kilivin I don't know why but I got a chill up my spine and I just have the image of a scared grog like for the first time in a while grog is slightly trembling when he says "Kevdek"
Kilivin it's a good line because he's afraid of kevdak it's his terror that makes the line good.
my favorite line in the show... its like the idea of confronting a bully and losing would just leave you so shattered and disappointed in yourself...
I love how Matt occasionally plays the role of Grog's inner voice.
I loved the effort Travis went through to make Grog and Craven Edge a comedy duo.
Grog: I can use it on Kevdak!
Percy: _It_ can use _you_ on Kevdak. >.>

At the end, they realize that Grog could easily kill everyone
Oh yes! It always amused me how both Percy and Vax arrogantly assumed they'd be able to stand up to him. Luckily for them, both of their challenges were interrupted by somebody else before Grog could get the chance to put them in the dirt!
Anyone else not semi-freaked out at the fact Grog stabbed Pike when he was trying to get out of the tornado when battling the Sphinx and the fact that earlier in the video we know that Grog has a nightmare where he killed a lot of people and one of the people hurt WAS PIKE!! The fact everything played out like that just adds so much more emotion to the moment.
WarringConscience I wanna say that was the first (of many) times that CR made me cry.

Grog and Pike's friendship is so pure and seeing this huge buff lumbering Goliath Barbarian with a heart of gold distressed that he hurt his best buddy REALLY plucks a couple heart strings, poor guy!

This is insane, first Grog rolls a nat20 then a nat 1. Unbelievable
It's the literal reverse of the final Kevdak hit, at advantage because Reckless, first a nat1 second roll a nat20. Sometimes the dice know exactly what needs to happen.

I forgot how cool the craven edge was until the show came out.
That's what I love about Matt's campaigns, everything has either a solid or interesting backstory or mystery to it, as if you could explore forever if you could.
And after all this Travis thought it a good idea to make his next character a Hexblade xD
Pike and Grog talk after the impalement, I just imagine Grog squatting down and tiny Pike just hugging his arm. So cute. Best siblings ever! Next to the Twins that is. Oh and Percy and Cassandra too.
Props to Travis for owning up to the Disadvantage roll. He could have let it go...

Grog may have lost Craven Edge but Percy held onto that dragonslayer longsword to the very end.
Maybe "Can I insight check the sword?" is our always.
Can't help but feel bad for Craven Edge. Pretty sure everlasting hunger would make anybody go crazy... if only they could've maybe kept it and tried to tamper with it so that they could remove the curse on him.
In hindsight Grog was right about Craven Edge. He needed it to defeat Kevdak. He was dominated in their fight and the FlameBrand War Hammer really failed him. Funny enough, as risky as using Craven Edge was, it had a higher chance of going right in a showdown with Kevdak then the astronomically perfect scenario that played out preventing the Herd from slaughtering VM after Kevdak's death.
Seriously if they had used Greater Restoration on Grog before that short rest he'd have been able to wreck Kevdak with Craven Edge.
This and the Briarwoods are my favorite arcs. Thank you for uploading!

Knowing that Wildemount is now part of DnD canon and has its own supplement guide, Craven Edge being cast off into "another plane" really works for letting other players get a hold of Craven Edge in their own games. (Not that you couldn't just **make** your own Craven Edge, but this adds some depth and history to a unique and legendary weapon).

Sam played the bit with Grog and Craven Edge really well. Had Sam not rolled a d20 it's very possible Matt would have allowed Craven Edge to possess Scanlan.
Remember that time that Grog turned Kraven edge into a chain blade and became Kratos for a second?
Its both delightful and sad at how much Travis himself loved that sword.

Rhys Causon It'll be a while. I'm still working weekends for a bit yet, and we're starting off at level one (only one veteran player, best to start newbies off at the beginning I've found). Probably won't find an enemy with it till level 9 or so.

I timed the whole event of when Grog collapses in the snow on the original episode. If you exclude the narration of Matt and Pike searching through her spell book. They probably wouldve been under the minute time limit or just over. Im gona miss that sword :(
