RTA - Recognize The Alpha😂
gotta do it (also destroy matt's life just for the hell of it)
And then the real reveal...
RTA is for Rexxentrum Toy Authority...
@@Jimbob1337yeah I was disappointed that part was not added
I wonder if Travis had the whole "Rexxentrum Toy Authority" thing figured out (or mostly figured out) at that time, or if he got the idea from Marisha's off-the-cuff remark about the "Royal Tinkering Academy".
If he did have the idea ready, that's one hell of a poker face he got there when Marisha came SO CLOSE to figuring it out.

This was the closest thing you will get to Matt Mercer doing a Brennan Lee Mulligan style "I will die on this hill" rant.
Minus Brennan’s mouth noises
Only, Brennan's hills are usually correct.
@@dannykent6190
As is this one. Everything Matt stated was a fact.
@@dannykent6190 To quote Brennan "I would die on any hill".
What Matt said is totally true. The study that birthed the whole Alpha stuff was entirely biased by the fact that they put wolves that didn't know each other in the same captivity. That's not at all how they behave in the wild. Most often than not, in the wild, a pack of wolves is a familly. So yeah there's a "Alpha" male and female.... the pack's dad and mom.
Nothing to do with strength or mentality, since adult wolves will quit the pack to form their own after a while. So yeah, the alpha Wolf theory is dumb, even the guy that wrote it said that he was wrong. What more proof do you need ?
Plus the fact that using animal sociology to describe human relationships is dubious at best anyway.
@@bluebird8221 The problem is whether or not the study is true. The problem is how in the fuck would Imogen, a person who never got into a university or academy (remember that?), know about any study by scientists in a fantasy world without global communication networks or organized education systems?
I love that Matt hates the wolf alpha theory so much that he immediately canonically inserted the debunking of said theory into his world's lore.
Honestly that felt petty. Probably the only time I've ever seen Matt pull a dick-move.
Which is funny because packs irl have their alpha
It's just we as humans turn the idea of leadership qualities into question about bugattis rather than seeing the positive traits of being a leader could bring
@@TimStamper89 and well, the wolf alpha usually is just the alpha cause he is the father.... The whole alpha hype is a myth
@@TimStamper89 packs irl don’t have alphas either, its based on a false study on captured wolves
@@kallepronk7328 Exactly. Wolf packs in captivity develop a hierarchy that is extremely unlike natural wolf packs which are usually matriarchies or patriarchies... Almost like prison hierarchies among humans, which are also usually based on dominance and strength instead of actual leadership.
I feel like, if Laura rolled a Nat 1, Matt would still let her succeed. 😂
Matt: Sorry I meant "Roll with Advantage"
"Nat 1, still smarter than this guy, so here you go: You know that..."
You know it
Im surprised Matt let the die fall before he let her succeed
His stare at the camera as he drinks after pretty much proves that lol

Matt: Get your 3rd character ready
Sam: Immediately sets to work on Flat Earth FCG
Nott referred to the world being flat and that there was only one world with life on it. If I recall there was a quip about stars not being real. Matt made a joke about nott being a "one earther"

Still, most worlds that end up having multiple continents of land or place special meaning in phases of the moon(s) end up being spherical.

So, somewhat related to that 1 study of autism supposedly being linked to vaccines. A study with faked numbers and a total of 12 people. Awesome. Thanks used to be a doctor Wakefield
He figured out the Sigma Grindset?
It seems like a stretch to say it was wholesale wrong... it was just a misinterpretation. The Alpha pair is basically just the mother and father of the family dynamic. Of course, behavior changes a bit from animal to animal... but it is still represented in various pack animal groups.

I love how Matt made Travis's wife roll a check before letting Travis have it
No. He made Imogen make an Int check (he even calls her "Imogen") to see, if the character believes Chetney. They are in-character here. Has nothing to do with husband and wife. There are plenty of points in the three campaigns where you you get a glimpse of Matt's and Marisha's or Travis's and Laura's relationships (like when Marisha talks as Laudna about how glasses in the cupboard should be arranged). What I like the most about this "alpha wolf" study, is the fact that the scientist that made the original study and paper on this, came back years later after more studies into the same group of wolves, and said that he was wrong in his original understanding of the groups dynamics. But it had gotten so much attention that he was overlooked
Honestly it really shouldn't matter in the long run since Alphas DO exist in many other animal species. It is strange how wolves have always been the ones to be associated with it even now after it's been debunked but Matt does a bit offended at the mere idea of alpha even being a thing when alpha animals are incredibly common in nature, both male and female. I love Matt but honestly I think he should've just chilled out here. Comes off like he was actually triggered, though it's possible it's just an inside joke between him and Travis and he knew Travis was trying to get under his skin.
@@jeremycampbell4021 I believe it is just an inside joke, I doubt Travis actually believes the alph mentality in any case, in the sense of what it has become culturally speaking for humans.
And as he is a werewolf it is specifically about the misconception of wolves, and not other animals in this case.
As there have already been other jokes about the alpha from the group, that was clearly fun jokes taking the piss on the idea of "the alpha" again, as it is seen in human society which is just plain wrong.
I don't see anything wrong in that interaction or any kind over triggered response, it's all fun and games ^^
My understanding was that the study wasn't so much wrong as it was being interpreted incorrectly since it was about wolves in captivity, not in the wild. Wild wolf packs just sort of consist of families with the father and mother acting as the sort of "alpha and beta" leading the children. But in captivity, it's more about which wolf is the most physically dominant since they're basically stuck in there together like a prison forced to compete over food and territory instead of roaming freely. It was a behavior that was the result of their captivity, not something you'd observe out in the wild.
@@shmeebs387 I said that the person doing the original study said that he himself was wrong in how he had understood it to work.
The difference between captive and wild animals will always be different, and will be near impossible to compare to completion. even studies done in the wild have proven themselves, through many different species to be hard to get accurate.
However, in any case, the way that humans, especially the stereotypical "alpha male" way of thinking, and idea of such

Matt seems so personally offended by the concept of alphas but I felt Chetney’s specific philosophy on it was actually very motivational. He’s not trying to say he’s a sole leader by blood right. Just that anyone can be if they step up and see it, and he wasn’t super toxic about it either.
I'm going to get hate for this, but I think he's so offended because he either doesn't have those leadership qualities outside the game ( he's even said he has imposter syndrome) or he BELIEVES he doesn't. Being surrounded by Hollywood types isn't the best for your masculinity either, as they attack any for of masculinity as toxic. I'm not saying leadership is a male trait, but it IS a masculine trait.
@@lextheap1638 If I thought I'd get hate for something, I probably would pass on saying it online but I appreciate that you wanted to share that anyway because it's genuinely an interesting insight. I don't wanna pass that kind of judgment on him because it's a very speculative reach and I think speculating on someone I don't know, especially negatively, is kind of nonconstructive. But the latter half is wise stuff. All people have a spectrum of feminine and masculine traits and it just so happens that positive masculine expression is lately almost as discouraged as negative masculine expression, and I could see that happening in some social groups in Hollywood as well. But positive masculinity should be propped up and set as an example for men and women. So stay strong and keep modeling that "positive" expression.

I'm so glad Matt responded as he did because it's exactly what I was thinking lol
Alpha males in fact to exist within certain animal kingdoms. The one study in which Matt has been triggered over is in respect to wolves. That study has been considered debunked. Granted it was debunked by conducting several experiments on wolves who were in captivity, some born into it no less, so there is some who argue the validity of those studies. However several other animals, like within the chimpanzees for example, very much do structure their hierarchy based around an alpha. Shame that Matt couldn't handle a simple joke to the point of spreading misinformation. Read some books folks. Those are actors we are watching not educators.
The original alpha theory was developed by Rudolph Schenkel, who studied wolves by capturing wild, unrelated wolves who were complete strangers to each other and putting them together in a small, confined area. Naturally they competed with each other for food since each individual wolf was essentially acting as its own pack, and the ones that were decided to be the "alphas" were the ones who appeared to earn a leadership role by dominating the other wolves through aggression, even through they were really just fighting over food. Years later, the methodology was questioned, as no wolf pack in the wild would ever form from a bunch of random, unrelated wolves happening upon each other and just deciding to stick around each other. Wolf packs are actually formed from families of wolves. Young wolves leave the packs they were born into, a male and female pair up, and all of their other pack members are the children they have together, with older children helping to care for the younger siblings. They're not even called alphas anymore in academic terms, they're usually referred to as "parents" or "breeders." Here's the fun plot twist; the person who questioned the methodology and debunked the original alpha theory was... Rudolph Schenkel. The same guy who wrote the alpha theory. He realized his own methodology was flawed, admitted he was wrong, and redid his entire study using wolves in a more natural setting.
Sooo Deanna is the payback for this!!

Sadly it still applies to werewolves since primates and by extension most mammalian humanoids have alphas.
The weird thing is, because of a self-fulfilling prophecy, while this concept doesn't exist in wolves it does exist in people now. All it takes is enough people believing that it's a thing for it to become one. If enough people think someone is an "alpha" and treat them like one, then they are one.
Not that weird, when Silverback Gorillas also have an alpha, as do lots of other animals.
We didn't hear the term and copy it, it's just a name that people started using to describe a kind of people that have existed since even before people had become people.
@@Trojianmaru Yeah, people talk about it like it was a term that was invented just for that one wolf study. It was something they observed in many other animals and was a proven theory and they just applied it to wolves by mistake. While it may have latched onto wolves culturally, it was used to accurately describe many other herd/pack animals before wolves that it was a fair mistake
Just me that reacted to the whole "I have one locked and loaded" part? I honestly dont think Travis belives Chetney would last.
And honestly... people, seriously. Look at Travis expression through the whole thing. He is trolling Matt. He knew how he would react. He have that typical look he always gets when he is goofing around and trolling Matt.
This is why we need a circle of friends. Friends can help you deal with your anxiety, fears, and frustrations. It's perfectly normal to not see eye-to-eye on issues. We learn to accept our differences, whether they are physical, mental or how we think and see the world.
Wow Marisha was pretty close on that guess, from what we know now.
