“Goodnight Percy”
“Goodnight Vax”
“It’s 4 in the afternoon.”
I can just see Scanlan standing there behind them.
37:24 for anyone wanting to return to this legendary moment 😆
to be fair, Whitestone is pretty far north and it's winter so it's probably pretty dark by mid-afternoon
666th like and Scanlan is the best!
I like to think they were referring to the sunsetting of their friendship for the time being.
Last episode: "I'm very aware that my greed killed me"
This episode: "Like hell I'm paying 2 silver"
I love the show but... The greedy ranger and pissed off rogue who's upset about people not being trustworthy...uhmm. Then Ill screw over the tavern keep of a half dead town...wth. Not sure why Keyleth isnt objecting to this treatment.
RNDM DMG Would say Keyleth “knows better”; they’ve had about two years of traveling together by episode one of what we see, any “No. Don’t. Stop haggling” intensity has faded to a semi-joke afterthought.
that is why I love Vex :D
Greed is good.
I really wish Kashaw didn't revive her.

Meanwhile me: put the bear in that thing and forget it ever existed. I am also annoyed at Vex trying to snatch good armor from Vax while not getting I to melee at all. Like what's the point? If you are taking hits in melee as an archer, you might want to reconsider. Vex and her bear are immense resource drainers

Percy comes out with the best lines oh my god
How the hell Taliesen constantly comes up with these great one liners off the cuff is a mystery to me. Like, there's being a good actor who knows how to improv stuff, and there's this.
I'm always convinced each of them has the best lines. I did stop to appreciate that one.

I freaking loved Scan's explanation to Vax
I never got that part of Vax.. once or twice max but after that you genuinely look like you’re trying to make them say ‘no don’t go’. It’s baseless drama for the sake of it. Liam does a brilliant job but it was slipping into more soap opera stuff.

"Your secret is safe with my indifference." Percy your eloquence and sarcasm enriched humor is positively wondrous.
One of the most relatable things I've ever heard.

"Your secret is safe with my indifference." I won't tell anyone because I don't care what you do.

Percy: "I'm glad that she survived because I wouldn't be able to live with myself."
Vax internal monologue: _You wouldn't have to_
Vax nearly gets himself killed and the party killed (more than once) then get pissed when someone else make a mistake.
@@ethantravis4728 Vax puts himself in danger and then gets mad when Percy literally kills his sister, wow who would have thought, what a hypocrite xDDDDDD why is Vax made that Percy killed his sister
Honestly, in his position I also would get mad. It doesn't matter how often you or anyone else in the party already nearly died. To lose someone that is so dear to yourself - and especially a twin sister- that's quite hard and even though she was brought back, knowing how close it was, having felt the fear and loss, just to find out it was because one person wasn't careful enough (not that I really blame Percy, they all sometimes forget themselves when it is about loot^^), I think it's just understandable to be more than a little upset.
That is not hypocrisy, but how emotion works and since he was willing to take her place, it seems like he thinks his life less worth than hers.
I mean up until this point Vax had avoided actually getting anyone killed, and while what he did _was_ reckless he at least learned for the most part. Vax also literally has the right to be mad when it was his _sister_ who quite literally died and he was then forced to pledge an oath to the Raven Queen in order to save her. I don't know if you lot are caught up all of it just yet, but Vax's oath will become more significant later on as the fact that he had to pledge said oath is also a fair point for him to be mad at Percy.
Everyone would be mad in Vax's position. His twin sister died. He's wasn't thinking straight.
Grog constantly annoying his sword is the greatest thing i have ever experienced in my entire life.
The obviously-super-evil-sword-can’t-corrupt-big-moron dynamic is freaking amazing.

@@anna-maria1412 Distraction is almost a necessity the grief can just completely overwhelm you and just shut you down. In my experience my RPGs were some of the only joy I could find after my father died. Being able to leave your world for a few hours have some clear objective to work toward, and maybe having the ability to save someone can really help work through some things. And your right its clear on his face that Liam not just Vax is hurting, Liam is a phenomenal actor a has made a career playing through character trauma but when you have that shared experience of losing someone like that you can kinda just tell.
@@anna-maria1412 In addition to serving as a distraction, RP can be incredibly cathartic. Sometimes it’s easier to allow yourself to shed tears and experience powerful emotions through your character when confronting your own directly is too painful.

There was a comment Sam made one or two episodes back I think, where he was also saying "life was shit before this", and I think he was saying it out of character, so not as Scanlan. @@wordoftheday7650 That's cute. No one cares what you think. Go be useless somewhere else.
For anyone who cares HOW I treat my dog: my dog is a healthy 18 lbs at 8 years old, who can safely walk off-leash without supervision, still wears an electric training collar (bc basic animal instincts are a thing), and he takes commands in Russian. He hunts squirrels, opossums, racoons, and he flushes out snakes and rats from under the house on our 10 acre ranch. He loves me to death and this tiny little dog will ignore your yapper of a pitbull but will bite *your* balls off if I raise my voice at you. He cuddles with me under my armpit every night, and he eats a specifically measured amount of Blue Buffalo to keep him at his correct weight. He is punished appropriately and accordingly to the transgression when he's been bad (which is seldom), but also gets treats when he's been good (which is often). And by "treats" I mean he eats deer steaks and ice cream (obv. not choc.), and drinks beer. If you don't like that, IDGAF. Raise your own dog how you see fit, and leave mine alone bc my dog is better trained and more well behaved than your child.
"We're together now. We're a family. That's how I smile. It's better than it was before."
"We are all probably going to die in the next month."

And THAT is the piece that Kayleth is missing. She is afraid of getting too attached to save herself heartache late, not realizing that the joy outweighs the heartache. It's a wonderful bit of wisdom from Scanlon who normally is not at all the serious one. Such wonderful RP and it REALLY makes me miss LARPING.
I agree wholeheartedly. And I just want to say: Over here, in Germany, we had some opportunity to larp again already.

I find nothing more hilariously immersion-breaking than a character in a roleplaying game saying "We're not playing a game" or "This isn't a game".
Okay, new favorite moment, watching Travis work out his hiccups. That was absolutely adorable
Especially coming from one that played by someone who constantly says "this is a game guys" outside of character..
I love it because it’s, yeah, silly and breaks the fourth wall, but I don’t mind it as much as when a movie says “this isn’t a movie”
I just wanna give Liam a big hug, he looks so sad when Matt describes them meeting Keyleth's father. I heard he had just lost his mother to cancer during that time and I don't doubt it was weighing heavily on him yet he still didn't break character and did his best to entertain everyone. Man's a legend, all of them are and I hope they are well.
Though I am more then sure that Liam’s private life was very much on his mind during that Scene with Keyleth and her father but you must also remember the RP as well that is that Vax And Vex did not have a good relationship with their father so for Vax to watch the love of his life Keyleth who has a good relationship with her father where he and his sister did not may hurt a bit for the twins.also Vax loves Keyleth and to watch her cry and be sad is a little heartbreaking for him and maybe the want to comfort her is there. And on top of that he himself is a dad.oh and yes I agree he is brilliant actor a legend as well. He does seem to lean toward method in his acting from my point of view any way and not to make Vax only see the dark and be a downer but it also gives his heart joy to see that Keyleth’s father loves and support her.
His conversation with Scanlan, which he admits is as much himself asking Sam, made me think of this too. I’m so glad Laura was there checking in on him and giving him the hugs and support those of us watching never could.
Ah, I was wondering why he had been acting more dour and moody for the past couple episodes. Most other comments just fanboy bullshit over how dedicated he was to "staying in character" but I knew something was off.
@@mingodingo Pretty sure he goes into at least some detail about it in his "Between the Sheets" interview with Brian. Super interesting interview but the DnD stuff is near the end. I believe he mentions that in the end it REALLY shaped the character and that there was a point he wasn't going to play Vax anymore but due to some game circumstances it felt right to keep going and likely in a way helped him move forward with his own life.
Can I just say I LOVE how invested Marisha gets in these games? She cries real tears. She really cares for her fellow adventurers - not just as Keyleth, but as Marisha. Marisha cares about the twins, Percy, Grog, Scanlan, and even various NPCs as if they were real. It's amazing what bonds these players have with each other and their characters.
100%, she is amazing. Incredibly talented, and plays Keyleth so well. Her emotional acting really gets you so much more invested. Absolutely love Marisha. She just makes every episode more awesome.
I love how emotionally invested she is but I get so damn frustrated by the social ineptitude. I’ve got to the point where I skip most of the most where she takes 5 minutes to convey a thought that could be delivered in a sentence or two

I liked the whole skull wish debacle where he was super forceful and tried to be in charge.
@@MrRJPE Episode 40 was the best episode by far. The tension and we don’t know what will happen was so good
We can all agree that the best parts are those that matt gets to sit back and let them play their characters. Out of character they know that fighting each other achieves nothing, but they understand what drives their characters and roleplay it so well, and that fight was the epitome of that role-playing.
I liked the skull debacle conceptually, and it was plenty fun to watch on its own merits… but I’d actually argue the way Grog tries to manipulate Vex into thinking Percy’s the aggressor is blatantly out of character.
@@RedKing12000 well, you could debate that he just genuinely thought Percy was the bad guy in that situation

I just love Liam's acting in this one. How Vax closes himself off with the the knowing he is forever changed is phenomenal. Also, Percy's line 'This is an evening of unbridled guilt' is just perfect!
Late the the critical role family, but better late than never.
Glad you could make it!
Liam is exceptional at going really deep in his roleplaying and really leaning into the juicy (very much including the dark) aspects of his characters. He was also going through some rough times IRL during parts of this campaign (health stuff, the loss of his mother, depression) and has talked a lot about how the game helped him process those emotions.
Liam losing his mind at the conversation between Grog and Craven Edge puts me in such a good mood.

i didnt want to comment on the last episode in case someone got spoiled, but like, it's heartbreaking thinking about that Vax told Vex he wouldn't leave her side, and that they would stick together and keep each other safe after the dragons took over. But the minute he leaves willingly to check out the goo-pit, Vex d i e s.

"Everything is shitty. You could dwell on the shit, or you can just leave it behind in people's beds and keep going."
Fantastic little moment between Scanlan and Vax! I have a feeling that Liam wanted Vax to stop taking things so seriously and relax a bit and imo he found a perfect in-game way of introducing that change to the character , rather than just deciding to start playing Vax differently all of a sudden. Well played Liam!
It also gave Sam a chance to actually give an explanation for the eternal happy-go-luckiness of the character at a time when even Grog doesn't always take things lightly.
And given that Liam was going through a rough time and he's said Sam was always there for him, it means quite a lot.
Yeah, he even said *"I'm asking this partly as Liam to Sam, but mostly as Vax to Scanlan"* so I think that was kinda personal for him.
Matt has so many great voices, but whenever he talks as Trinket during a talk to animals spell I can't help but give a big ol' grin. Great stuff.
I love how Marisha talked the elephant in the room that is the staggering difference in life expectancy between the dnd species.
Beyond that, Druid Lv 18 Timeless Body specifically says 'you age only 1 year for each 10 which passes.'
Half-Elves average 180 years. Kiki reached Lv 20 before she turned 30. She could be around for another 1500 years.
Gnomes average 400 years, Full-Elves 700. You can Easily have a 2000-year-old arch druid, with LOTS of friends they've outlived.
I imagine Keyleth dreading a long line of funerals in her future. No wonder she wants to keep people at a distance. How many times can you suffer deep loss and stay who you were?
I love how Travis has clearly trained dogs and understands them
Especially the fact that some, but not all, enjoy ale
I really hope that's not how he trains them, and that he doesn't give them alcohol
@@user-Aaron- I imagine swords aren't involved but being commanding and assertive is how you train dogs, followed by positive reinforcement when they do what you tell them to (though treats that aren't rotting are advised lol).
He never hurt the doggo just told him who was in charge so that bit was right though louder than necessary but that's grog for you.
It would be the same in the wild, the pack leader usually holds unruly members down in vulnerable positions and growls at them, letting them know that whatever they just did won't be tolerated but that they aren't going to hurt them.
@@kingduckie9135 Domesticated dogs aren't wolves. What you're touting sounds very similar to the debunked 'Alpha Dog' garbage theory popularized by César Millán which never even applied to wolves, never mind dogs.
@@user-Aaron- If you think anything I just describes relates to that bullshit alpha male crap then you're very misinformed in both what the old 'alpha male' crap study told people and how to actually train dogs.
The alpha male study that completely messed up everyone's idea of how wolves worked told people that alpha males are these malicious monsters that take the best and leave scraps for the rest, that they use brute force to make everyone and everything submit to them with overwhelming masculinity. That's not at all what I'm saying.
The way you train dogs is that you give them a command and teach them to associate that command with an action. If you aren't commanding then they will ignore you unless you have a very very well behaved dog naturally. Most dogs are not that well behaved naturally and like all animals, humans included, will see what they can get away with first. They will try to bully others or ignore commands or whatever, watch any number of dog trainers (proper ones not Ceasar 'smacking a dog gets me hard' Mulan) and you'll see that you need to have authority.
And a wolf is going to be even more assertive in these behaviours because they are wild.
Now, if you actually read my comment you'll know that I'm not saying you should be threatening, hitting or shouting at dogs. I assumed that was obvious on even a quick read but if not I'll clarify. Hitting, threatening and shouting at dogs, especially wolves, is not how you train dogs. Obviously slamming swords into the ground and shouting so loud a building quakes is more than a bit over the top but its DnD, literally everything is over the top or it would be unplayable if normal people had to fight DnD monsters, but the basic principles are the same, he showed his authority without causing any harm and showed the wolf that he was the one in charge and that he needs to listen, exactly the same as in the wild though more extreme because of it being DnD.
He then rewarded (or tried to anyway cause Grog is an idiot) him with food. He also kept his commands short since dogs have more trouble understanding longer commands.
Whether Travis does actually have experience or not, if you remove the silly over the top stuff then he pretty much nailed it.
Giving short, authoritative commands. Rewarding when commands are followed. Repeating.
That is how you train a dog/wolf.

When you're watching, for sure. But when you're playing fights are much more dramatic and intense.
@@Idofphoenix Kinda depends on the players at the table. If you have some hardcore strategists, the fights are the main feature; while if you're at a table with heavy role players who're invested in their characters the fights are there to break the tension from the drama.
@@BoojumFed Well yea. But even the heaviest RP group I've been in, the fights had weight. Sometimes more cause I was invested with the NPC about to die. My only point was don't base the fun factor of D&D combat on having watched it, as it's not as good as being in it. Where as watching a good story is almost as good as being in it.
