Stratford Square was a great mall to learn about. This looks like it was a great department store.

I worked at that mall in high school. I worked at JC Penney but bought clothes from Macy's a lot. I can't believe both have closed.

It’s tough and also heartbreaking.this mall offered something that woodfield couldn’t duplicate at one time.i hope and pray that Stratford Square doesn’t go dark.

I remember walking through this very store, when the Stratford Macy's was closing. One of the managers did a half arsed yell at me when I was told not to take pics, but she didn't bother me after that.

Macy's made a massive mistake in rebranding Marshall Field's, which had huge regional loyalty. Many folks felt anything unique about Field's was sucked out and homogenized, and that the quality of the products sold was less. I'm surprised they held on as long as they did in the area.

I worked at Marshall Fields Cherryvale location from 2001-06. End of day sales were always compared to Spring Hill and Stratford Square (Dayton Hudson considered all three stores to be in the same region/tier) and Cherryvale frequently outperformed each of them. Macy’s Cherryvale is still operational, but I wonder how long it will last. It opened in 1973 and at 115,000 sq ft it’s one of the smallest branch stores, yet still manages to occupy three stories and holds an escalator atrium lit up by natural lighting. The arches on the building are similar to the store at Woodfield. I was in the Spring Hill store a few times, and can see the resemblance. Spring Hill was nice of course, but both buildings have a bit of a generic big box feel compared to many of the stores that came before them (Joliet being somewhat unique with its 70’s style escalator/stairwell). Regardless, it’s sad that many nice stores are going by the wayside these days.

It’s sad how brick and mortar retail is going downhill. I subscribed to your channel, keep up the good work.
