My childhood Sears! Silly enough, I regret not going to see it before it closed :c That parking lot entrance with chairs and vending machines, and skinny escalator, are seared(no pun intended) in my brain forever, lol.
Looks very similar to a Sears in Houston that opened in 1939 and will close early this year. This store looks to be in much better shape than the one in Houston.
Nice video! It's especially cool to me because my late mother used to work in Draperies back in the early 70's. Back then though, I believe draperies was on the third floor. I used to meet her there to have lunch or to borrow her car. Very cool video! Thanks for shooting it!
fthetm since my mom works down the block from this Sears before stopping to see her i stopped at this Sears since i always pass by here since i go see my mom and never walked in there for the longest and went there yesterday and looked dead with a couple of elderly people.
I wish Sears can close all there stores and start off with one thriving store and remodel it. They should also change the name to "The Roebuck Company" so they would attract new customers. I pretty sure that would save them too and they can go back up to what they once where.
Recommendation: Turn the sound down on the intro music so you don’t blast out your viewers wearing headphones. As for the first Sears department store, they shouldn’t have remodeled it in the 90s. That store was practically a museum. It’s unfortunate that it only took one Wall Street a-hole to bring both K-mart and Sears down. By the looks of it Bob Iger and BlackRock are doing the same thing to Disney with their ESG and DEI scoring.
Last time I was in Chicago, I checked this one out. I couldn't believe how many levels there were...it was like Macy's in New York (except with fewer shoppers)....and it even had a Sears Dental (which was also blocked off when I was there....but which they insisted was still open) I loved the old-skool feeling of it.
Thats what I felt like too, I was surprised by how tall it was even after seeing pictures of the building. When I filmed this the dental area was open.
Elevators +More if you look at your video, the entrance to the Dental office is blocked off with a bench. It was the same when I was there (also in March)...a woman was waiting there and said she had an appointment but no one knew where the dental people were!
How did it smell in there? My childhood store at Fiesta Mall opened in 1979 and is closing next month. There's a smell in there that's been there for as long as I can remember.
It looks like they're trying to update this one a little, it does have the newer overhead signage package (above the checkouts and such)... at least that's something.
This is an absolutely beautiful store. I have been here many times. I still prefer to go to a brick and mortar store to purchase things. I like to see what I'm buying before I buy it. The internet is such a pain especially when something goes wrong which it can and does.
Went to this exact Sears yesterday before i stopped to see my mom who works down the block from this Sears and looked dead and had a bunch of elderly people walking around.
Elevators +More Sears or really well Sears is guilty of this but they don't appeal to a young audience which is were you want to be in any business the consequence with Sears is that there audience is dying of but also since there products may have lost appeal to there existing shoppers from Decades ago Since there quality has changed which also made them give up on the store.
I tend to blame Kmart largely for much of Sears troubles. Before the merge Sears was seemingly fresh and had a good reputation. Kmart as it was known even in the mid 90's as broke and not so fresh. Much of that "merged" over to sears. Most stores still standing have not been updated let alone just kept up. It's one thing to be a poorer company, it's another to pocket sales. That's what Kmart is known for. It's sad to see.
@@tgree18 Yeah they sure screwed you guys in every way possible. Sears used to be a decent company not shop at and work for. My great aunt retired in 2004.. just in time it seems. She had worked for them for almoat 45 years. Decent retirement too. She's still going strong. But yeah they've screwed her after the buy out. She saw that a mile away. Now ours is long gone. It's really sad. I miss the people more than anything since quality was getting tougher to find.. i feel for you guys.
@@PearComputingDevices And my store manger retired in 2004...right after the merger happened. I worked at Sears for eighteen years and initially it was about family and taking care of the customers. But as time went by, it became more about money (credit applications and signing up for Shop Your Way). They even took away our associate discount. When they took away that I shopped there less unless if it was for my mom or niece! Smh!
@@tgree18 I remember when they did that I was in shock. Sears was always a very staunchly conservative company and thus their stores and management style was such too. It was really all about family and customers. If you could keep customers happy you did well with that company. I know they had trouble competing with Walmart, but two things had been true at the time. If you wanted a decent job you didn't go to Walmart. If you wanted decent stuff again you didn't buy it at Walmart. See the trend? Lol. But when Kmart came in I am sure all them points had gone away. Their market cap certainly shows that.
The men's floor was the highlight. It had a much more tidy appearance and some rather thoughtful display work in comparison to the other floors. The manager in charge of the men's floor should be commended. A shame that the store was so desolate on the day of filming and an even greater shame that this Sears will be closing.
I wonder if this Sears has more than 2 employees working like the one near me has. Even when I have been there and was going to purchase something, I couldn't find any help. So sad. But on a brighter note, I enjoyed your video :-)
Cool things to film: Oddities stores, roadside attractions, Weird U.S. places from book series, abandoned places, street art, antique stores, filming locations, drive in theaters, weird people, bookstores, garage sales, carny people, places from roadsideamerica.com, airports, thrift stores, sex shops, old movie theaters, museums, film places that you aren't suppose to film using hidden cameras, churches & temple, dead malls, campgrounds, weird motels, strange gift shops, local attractions, historical sites, interview homeless street people, graffiti, interesting houses, murder sites, festivals & fairs, stores going out of business.
jerry P. Not sure i went to this exact same Sears before stopping to see my mom since she works down by this Sears looked very dead and elderly people were just walking around seemed very abandoned.
Seres had a hudge store and sniping building in. Atl it was city hall that it was abandoned now its a mall it is old and thay almost tore it down and what is the song wen you wer driving up
I loved going to that location (Six Corners) in my late teens. 44 years ago, I bought myself a Seiko Sports Watch there, which I still have, and which has been with me all over the world for $150.00. Not cheap, but I got it at a big discount from the original price. I was sad when they started closing. Too many good memories at which became my favorite store. Perhaps they knew what was coming...2020 you know what! Nothing could make Globalist Billionaire Jeff Bezos and other Club members happier! 🤑💰🤑
I filmed the store on it's second to last day. In my opinion, it's a much better video too.

I've driven by this Sears more than a few times but never bothered to stop in.
You should if a closure announcement is made it would be a loss if it closes

It’s amazing. It’s a glisteningly stunning place. That must have been quite a tour experience.

I would close all but about 50 and remodel them. Eddie wont do that though...
Elevators +More Eddi is idiot most of the store in my area are dumps my store makes the old cross roads center store look good
I agree with you. That's a great, innovative idea. Why won't it ever come to fruition? Because it makes sense!
Now this store will close in July 😭💔

I love that store
How did it smell in there? My childhood store at Fiesta Mall opened in 1979 and is closing next month. There's a smell in there that's been there for as long as I can remember.
I really only noticed a smell in the basement and the 4th floor. Both had a musty old building smell. 1 through 3 smelled normal.
It looks like they're trying to update this one a little, it does have the newer overhead signage package (above the checkouts and such)... at least that's something.

They put profits over customers and ended up paying for it.

R.I.P.
wow
Wow was what I thought as well! I was amazed to see a store like this existed.
Which part of the store was expanded in the 90s?
AKA the Irving Park store at Milwaukee Rd...
Yes this is.
Rapscallion Slash Cicero av.
Ahh the memories
Unfortunately this Sears is about to be Demolished. As this was the Last Sears operating left inside City Limits of Chicago.
Any idea as to if this location is still open?
It's Still Open

This store doesn't look nearly as old as it is
It looks like a hotel outside. Lol imagine Sears Inn Deluxe
But this is honestly srsly really cool. You earned a Sub
Actually it kind of does. I never noticed that! Thanks for Subbing as well!
CEEJAY1214 lol
Thay have a lot to sell with the closing sale
Why doesn't AMAZON merge with SEARS? KEEP SEARS OPEN!!!!!
Robert Mack good idea but will not happen
Dead store.. no one there. How'd they go this long?

Def was at risk of closing 💀
