I’m glad theres still people talking about the usb dropout. I thought i was one of few instead of a major problem across all boards. But yes, I drop out to this day when using my 10gb lane on my B550M Pro-P motherboard for any purpose and ,prior to the bios update, every port would randomly dropout.
Microsoft had Windows Me for the 1990's, Windows Vista for the 2000's, and Windows 8 for the 2010's as absolutely HORRIBLE operating systems. I'm thinking Windows 11 will be appended to that list for the 2020's.
I haven't. My dad is still trying to get it installed and talks to me about it once a week or so. 🤦♂️ Every time I text him a video of Wendell talking about how terrible Windows 11 is.
I upgraded to Windows 11 a few days ago. It's hard to remember I even bothered because I lasted 10 minutes before installing something to revert the taskbar to the Windows 10 one so now it just doesn't look like I upgraded at all...
Only reason I haven't forgotten is Windows Update keeps reminding me my PC isn't compatible with Win 11. To which my invariable reaction is : "best news I've heard in a long time".

I hope you continue your coverage of prebuilt PC because I really enjoy that series. Also, Andrew did an amazing job with the intro! I know they take a long time to make but you should do more of them for special videos if it's possible. I can't wait for what you guys will do this year!
These disappointment videos are always fun, but WOW the animation at the start was above and beyond. If it weren't so great graphically, I would have been ROTFL because it was so funny.
It’s because of shitty construction quality, and it’s not due to any “shortages” of any sort. This is the new world, and OEMs have learned everyone will buy their products only based on pre 2020 brand quality
It's because 2020 and 2021 have been so depressing that components manufacturers, being so caring about their customers, just want to bring a little warmth to our hearts... and houses.
My favourite part of the intro is how easily Steve accessed the screw driver he needed from the GN toolkit. Meanwhile, I'm here digging through a tool pan of miscellaneous tool sets for 5 minutes. I may need to grab me one of those GN toolkits. :)
The Intro was truly *chef's kiss* The CPUs reverting to sand and the power supplies exploding were the absolute highlights for me. :) Also ordered my shirt! :)
I mean, it is. Nvidia & AMD = GPU duopoly Intel & AMD = CPU duopoly. Maybe intel can but into the GPU market, but i very much doubt it will happen in the next few years unless they come out with some VERY impressive cards and they are proven to be good quality (ie last while, overclockable). But that still keeps the market with 'the big three'.
@@lyianx Functionally, it still is. It wouldn't shock me if Imagination Technologies(formerly Videologic) or one of their filthy rich licensees steps up to compete in the PC market, eventually.
Can't wait for all the crybabies to scream "triopoly" when they find out that Intel is as powerless as AMD and Nvidia when it comes to controlling retail prices of their GPUs. Intel is brining out a compute focused architecture based on TSMC N6 (so better than both AMD and Nvidia). Of *cause* it's going to be efficient at mining. So of *cause* it's going to get scalped through the roof.....
I experienced constant USB dropouts on USB 2.0 ports on my B450 Steel Legend after upgrading from 1600AF to 5800X in March 2021, but a BIOS update from ASRock meant specifically for rectifying this issue resolved the dropouts completely
I have a MSI B550 Tomahawk that had USB dropouts more often then them working, rendering the ports unusable. It was so bad I almost returned my MOBO until I saw all the posts on Reddit. The BIOS update months ago completely fixed the issue, and I haven't had a single dropout since.
Steve: "Who needs RGB when you can have your PC build on fire?". That had me rolling on the floor LMFAO. Happy New Year to Steve and all the folks at GN!
Regarding Ryzen USB dropout: It seems to have been resolved for me in an OS update. It used to be fairly common (a few times per week) to have some or all of my USB ports stop working for a second or less. A Linux update a few months ago seems to have mostly resolved the issue. It still happens, but it's much more rare. I explicitly didn't update the BIOS because I'd have to go past a point of no return. I need to keep compatibility with Ryzen 2000 chips (currently using 3700X) because I want to keep a baller Windows 7 machine around for all of the many, many programs that Windows 10 broke compatibility with.
I'm pretty sure Windows 7 doesn't work with Ryzen 2000 anyways. As far as I know, anything beyond first gen Ryzen/Intel Skylake doesn't work and gets blocked by Windows 7 because the chipset isn't supported. If there is software you'd need to use on Windows 7, maybe get a PC separately that's got enough power to do what you want to do, then remote into it when you need to use the software.
@@Mystery5Me You're misremembering. x470 works fine with Win7 (at least allegedly), but only on Ryzen 1000 and 2000. You can kind of get Ryzen 3000 to work with it but it has some stability and compatibility issues. Also, your motherboard needs a PS/2 port or else you can't navigate through the installer.
i didn't realize the usb dropout was a known issue, and i always thought it was hardware... i have updated bios on motherboard recently and i still see this issue. it has become less common but it still happens 100%

I have a Ryzen 5600X and AMD 6700XT, MB B550I AORUS PRO AX and have NOT had USB issues, but had a lot of trouble with my old Intel system i7-6700 and Nvidia 970 which DID have USB issues especially with USB 3.0, MB GA-Z170N-Gaming 5. I don't know what happened with this issue but have always hated USB with ports randomly dying and will never trust it, I would not run anything important via USB.
5800X and MSI X570 Tomahawk Wifi, i've never had any USB dropouts on any of the BIOS versions since launch. For now at least, and i hope it stays that way XD. And that is even without a fresh install of Windows when switching CPUs
These disappointment videos keep getting more and more amazing guys. I was really looking forward to this and it did not disappoint. The narrative throughout is informative enough that I'm going to forward it to a few less tech knowledgeable friends to summarize the year for them as well. Please never change!
I had the USB dropout issue for months on my 3800xt/B550 and didn't even realize it was a widespread issue till this video but updating the bios did solve my problems since.
ASUS TUF B450M Plus with a Ryzen 3 3100 upgraded -> Ryzen 5 5600X, updated to BIOS 3205, still need a USB hub or the new HP Reverb G2 cable that has an integrated USB hub for my VR headset. I haven't had USB issues outside of VR however.
Damn wish I knew this before I replaced my motherboard. I wanted to update my bios but I wasn't sure if that was going to solve it, and since USB could go out randomly I didn't want that to happen while it was updating.
Upgraded to an ASUS Tuf Gaming B550M-Plus with a 5950X. External drives would randomly disconnect. Sometimes take the keyboard & (or) mouse with it. Often took a couple seconds for everything to reconnect. It did suck though since I often encoded gigabytes of movies! Had to restart my Handbrake queues a few times... Upgrading to a late BIOS fixed the issues completely on my end (Been a few months)

@Gamers Nexus, I really, really appreciate you guys for actually making 3XL or larger shirts. Especially being tall and bulky I roam around in the sometimes 3XL and 4XL areas.
Huh. I'd imagine your browser running on DDR4-compatible hardware paired with discrete graphics would have far fewer stability issues (even if it's that Threadripper) than a crummy decade-old Aspire 5750.
My favorite video of the year. Great production ANDREW!! The smoldering trainwreck of 2021 is finally over. Although, like Chernobyl, the smoking wreckage may continue to re-stoke the dumpster fire for years to come.

Yes, I have to admit that the 2min intro has some very nice graphics, grats to Andrew for doing that. Thank you GN for being a great source of information and ingenuity. I have not seen if there was a best product of 2021; perhaps I'll look into that. If there isn't one, maybe you guys should make/release one.
The intro was truly great this year! especially the cpus turning back to sand! I bet next year the render will be worthy of the ludicrous "in-game footage" that AAA developers love to put in their trailers!
I did have the Ryzen USB dropout issue. It was driving me nuts because I have a camcorder connected via an Elgato Cam Link, which I use both for streaming and for Teams meetings. The camera would constantly freeze up and have to be replugged to resolve it, until it happened again. Also caused havoc with my VR headset. I can't remember which BIOS update it was but one of the I think 5 released this year for my ASUS X570 Strix-F finally resolved it. Ordered myself a shirt! Happy New Year and keep up the great work GN crew!
Same, loved the pre-build gaming pc reviews that gave us "it's better than Dell". Yes it's a low bar but at the same time lots of humour. The Gigabyte PSUs, newer before have I got so much use and enjoyment out of a piece of hardware I don't even have. So thank you Steve and all the Gamers Nexus team for all your efforts and a great year of videos.

I think a big part of this year showed also how little the companies actually care about its customers. When they were given a opportunity to, they gouged like nearly no other market has gouged before. It would be as if there was shortage on Toilet paper, and the companies charging 300% on them or 300%-500% on hand sanitizer or N-95 face mask. But they didn't. Its one thing for scalpers to gouge pricing. But its not like the actual manufacturers were changing its pricing. But companies you name it, be it MSI, Giga, or any GPU AIB, those garbage pre builts, they took no time in taking their opportunity to rake in the money. Raise prices to unheard of levels, and in MSI case, use cheaper power phases and lower end parts that even compared to FE edition cards, yet charge a premium. I know customers are customers, but the eagerness to sell pallets in the hundreds to thousands to mining twats, creating a even larger shortage for its main customer base, further then driving up the cost even higher which lead to even further gouging. All manipulated by AIB's, then claim missing inventory of tens of thousands of graphic cards on "fishing boats". because, of course its common to misplace, especially when you pretend to do so. Or fake "leaks" of pictures of crates of GPU's, Nvidia's fake FE versions that accounted for less than 1% of all inventory but have prices which are only there just to not even exist. The same goes for MSI, and other AIB's that pretend to make a MSRP version but in reality, they do not actually exist. If one does, it is made of such cheap parts, with no intention of it ever being sold. Its just there so the AIB's can claim SEE SEE! A 3080 for $699! We made one! The next 99.9999% of our inventory has 3080's at $1000 for the next step up version. Along with GPU's, this gave other manufacturers to create attempted fake shortages on other products because of "some made up reason" Remember when there was some kind of HARD DRIVE MINING? That lasted how long? But hey, manufacturers took that chance to gouge Hard Drives for a good month! Then prebuilts got in and released their poorly assembled, cheaply built that they also gouged at premium markups. If it was a PC part, at some point there was a "shortage" on it even when there wasn't. But manufacturers figured, if we can say there is a shortage on one part, we can say there is a shortage on ALL PARTS!
@@vfitty3055 Sony, and Microsoft have similar shortages on the PS5 and Xbox. Made of similar parts from the same manufacturers from the same country. Did Sony or Microsoft change the prices of the PS5 and Xbox? No. Did Sony or Microsoft make introductory versions of their systems, only to re-release more expensive versions which were mostly just the same thing but at a higher cost? No. PS5's, Xbox's have been the same price at stores since they came out, regardless of scalpers selling them at double the price. Just have to find one. Its all the videocard makers choice to manipulate the prices so highly.
Its like the fuel "shortage" in the UK at the moment, entirely fake as there is more than enough fuel, they cheapen it with more ethanol, kick older cars off the road or into repair, new cars now run rich at idle smelling horrible, then the price jumps up by 20-30p/litre yet after talking to friends in this work area they have record profits because of a scare that caused a fuel panic buy period then put a fake bump in price of diesel to make those users feel bad an pay more over some made up "inflation." Companies do not have your side in this, they are milking you over fake scenarios to make you desperate and or scared into taking action, usually impatient or reliant purchase decisions, its disgusting.
I love these little skits at the end of the year. I remember the horror movie like one with RTX and all the "XD" bugs, the "swiss army knife". All good stuff.

I’m glad theres still people talking about the usb dropout. I thought i was one of few instead of a major problem across all boards. But yes, I drop out to this day when using my 10gb lane on my B550M Pro-P motherboard for any purpose and ,prior to the bios update, every port would randomly dropout.

My favorite line this year was from the G5 5000 Video: "Look at how lonely these memory modules are - they have no friends"

The intro is cinematic and a great new way to lead into this annual recap of disappointment. Nice work Andrew
Loved Andrew's Intro this was an amazing year for disappointment. Ordered my shirt right away & looking forward to more amazing coverage in 2022!
Yes, and looking forward to another year of disappointment.
I had indeed forgotten Windows 11 existed.
Awesome video, awesome year. Still the most reliable and honest tech channel on the internet.
Every time I text him a video of Wendell talking about how terrible Windows 11 is.
I upgraded to Windows 11 a few days ago.
It's hard to remember I even bothered because I lasted 10 minutes before installing something to revert the taskbar to the Windows 10 one so now it just doesn't look like I upgraded at all...
My dad's issue is with getting tpm enabled. His old mobo supports it but it's been a pain.
Only reason I haven't forgotten is Windows Update keeps reminding me my PC isn't compatible with Win 11. To which my invariable reaction is : "best news I've heard in a long time".
As much as I love the past years' horror movie trailer style, you can tell this was a different sort of extremely hard work. Always a treat. Keep up the good work!
Well done GN - you guys are brilliant! Sheet nearly two years of watching your content, I still know next to nothing but I now have a fair idea of just how much I don't know. Props to Andrew for the great intro and to the whole team for all the excellent work you've done👊🏼

Andrew’s intro was killer. I love how his work continues to evolve so impressively
One last video to close off the new year
Here's to another great year for GN ❤️
Here's to a great year for you as well!
These disappointment videos are always fun, but WOW the animation at the start was above and beyond. If it weren't so great graphically, I would have been ROTFL because it was so funny.
I knew this year’s build would be a giant fire hazard. What is it with components catching fire in 2021?
it's a metaphor for the world
It’s because of shitty construction quality, and it’s not due to any “shortages” of any sort. This is the new world, and OEMs have learned everyone will buy their products only based on pre 2020 brand quality
They were inspired by Australia and California I suppose.
The Intro was truly *chef's kiss*
The CPUs reverting to sand and the power supplies exploding were the absolute highlights for me. :)
Also ordered my shirt! :)

GPU pricing and availability has been my personal Disappointment of 2021.
Also, 10 points for the use of "duopoly" lol
I mean, it is.
Nvidia & AMD = GPU duopoly
Intel & AMD = CPU duopoly.

Also, your motherboard needs a PS/2 port or else you can't navigate through the installer.
did we figure out _why_ it was happening, exactly?
i didn't realize the usb dropout was a known issue, and i always thought it was hardware... i have updated bios on motherboard recently and i still see this issue. it has become less common but it still happens 100%
me to ! my mouse and keyboard sometimes stop working, reconnecting and all is fine - no idea it is part of this problem or other issue... i use a b450m asrock pro4 f and a cheap rgb "mars gaming" keyboard and a very old dell mouse 👍
@@MrLince-hr4of I have the same motherboard, with a Ryzen 5 3600 and 6700 xt, and a glorious master race brand keyboard and razer mouse, and for whatever reason I only get usb dropouts when I’m playing my ps3 or wii/GameCube emulator
Asus b550-f gaming, still have USB dropouts, but only with some ports and specific devices. Latest bios too.
That thunder at 22:27 was foreshadowing of Nvidia and the rtx 40 series.
@@yuspure AFAIK -- USB2, PCIE3, and powered USB hubs were bandaids which to u could do to prevent things like that.
@@ayuchanayuko That wasn't the case for me, everything would disconnect including usb2 and hubs.

Huh. I'd imagine your browser running on DDR4-compatible hardware paired with discrete graphics would have far fewer stability issues (even if it's that Threadripper) than a crummy decade-old Aspire 5750.

On a positive note, 2021 had the Fractal Torrent. I bought it because of the GN review and it is the best case I've ever had.

Thank you for a great year of entertaining and informative non-biased technological journalism, and looking forward to 2022 spent with you guys as well!
Or fake "leaks" of pictures of crates of GPU's,
Nvidia's fake FE versions that accounted for less than 1% of all inventory but have prices which are only there just to not even exist. The same goes for MSI, and other AIB's that pretend to make a MSRP version but in reality, they do not actually exist. If one does, it is made of such cheap parts, with no intention of it ever being sold. Its just there so the AIB's can claim
SEE SEE!
Sadly that's a lot of businesses, particularly foreign garbage.
Its supply at demand, they're going to do what they're going to do. Not that they have to.
@@badkarma11111 how many versions of xbox one were there? ps2 slim? switch oled? switch lite?
