My 9 year old niece loves Monster High, and she LITERALLY pointed out to me how she noticed that one of her spectra dolls had more defined cheekbones!!! Like Mattel thinks children don’t notice little details like that but they do!!!!!

The 50s designs would've been so cool-more dolls to attend the Die-ner we got. Skelita has "Katrina" on her skull because in Mexican culture, when you put the name of someone who is important to you on a sugar skull, whether they are alive or dead, you are honoring them.

Katrina is a cultural icon of the Day of the Dead, the name Katrina is jut a reference to that
So I wonder who Skelita is honoring.
Katrina was also the doll’s original name before she officially became Skelita so the designers wanted a subtle nod to that 😊

I still think they should have done a line around pre-monster characters. Like a Cleo/Nefera doll as an Egyptian princess not mummy, medieval Draculaura, Human Victorian Spectra etc.

I was a Barbie designer from 2007-2012.
The iteration of Monster High that everyone knows and loves was already nearly finished the week I started in 2007.
Garrett, his brother Darren and other designers from the packaging and the ‘Apptivity’ (new technologies) teams designed an array of characters, but being that none of them were fashion or doll designers, Lily Martinez was brought in to make the dolls look more fashionable.
And to Lily’s credit, the line would never have sold as it was before she djudged it up ( believe me- I saw the original sketches and you saw those prototypes)!
Garrett and I were instantly friends because he recognized my illustration style from a doll line that I’d previously worked on called ‘The Hottiez’ and he told me that the proportions of the Hottiez dolls influenced Monster High’s doll bodies.
Garrett himself also told me how grateful he was for Lily’s help in making the line look more fashionable when we first met.
While Lily might have created Lagoona from scratch- there were prelim storylines and prelim sketches for her to reference or ignore from various other characters. The team had already laid down the groundwork- (even if the other designers’ contributions weren’t as beautiful as her own).
Lily was also publicly acknowledged in a internal company-wide assembly when the line was launched in 2010, but I guess she’s feeling a certain way about Garrett’s accomplishments rather than being happy for him as I am.

Honestly, I would have loved to see freaky fusion set in the 50's because of the fact that we get to see more parents of the monsters.
I kinda hope that Mattel let's Netflix reboot Monster High to be darker like how it was originally supposed to be, like we could have the storyline of Cleo being cold to other monsters because she's scared to open up, due to how she died.

You can actually learn more about monster high back stories in the monster high series of books. The plot across the four books is very different from the show, but in Monster High: Back and Deader than Ever, we learn about Draculaura's backstory through flashbacks.
I LOVE the MH book series - but Garrett Sander said they aren’t considered canon 😭 it’s kind of like a separate/alternate reality of the franchise, I like to think the book series is more accurate to what we’d get if they made MH a Netflix movie. More teen/adult geared

@@Clawdeena9 I already knew Draculaura was adopted but didn’t know she was human first then turned into a vampire. I thought her parents were killed by humans. I was 8 years old when Monster high came out in 2010 now I’m 18 and I still love it (not the reboot lol😂) even my 12th birthday was monster high themed. This franchise had those episodes/movies about sexism, race, family etc that we don’t see in other shows today and I miss that 💕I do feel like one day Monster high will go back to the way it use to be

This was in another one of her videos, but it actually wasn't the fans. The company told Garett, the only LGBTQ person on the team, that it would be bad representation. And I never understood why people are upset with Angel Dust. The whole point of the series is redemption. Anyone can be good or evil, including those of us in the LGBTQ community. Angel Dust is gay & has a bad history and attitude, but he's also the character we'll most likely get the most redemption out of.

Idk if this was just lazy animation or what but the other day I watch frights camera action and looked at Draculaura’s family tree closer and saw a connection between Elizebat and what looked like Valentine with closer analyzing. So they could be brother and Sister or cousins but again looking around the tree there was a bit of copying and pasting the same monster in different parts but I didn’t see Valentine anywhere else on the tree so...

My head canon is that her mom died from illness (my guess is that she eventually contracted either tuberculosis, malaria, or sleeping sickness).

I remember when I got the catty noir doll and I brought it to school to show my friends bc I did not have a phone in elementary school and I group of girls came in to my class at lunch and stole her and broke her up when I came back to find my doll I was sad bc my dad spent 100 dollars on it at the time

basically, the whole school put Cleo and Clawd together because they were the most popular monsters in school, therefore, a powerful couple. Clawd and Cleo DID date but they were mostly chill as friends, HOWEVER Cleo and Deuce started liking each other but neither made a move because Cleo was dating Clawd, Deuce's best friend.
Because Cleo and Clawd weren't happy together as a couple and they just wanted to be friends, they broke up, absoluetly no hard feelings between those two BUT because Cleo and Deuce got together soon after, Spectra started a rumor that Cleo cheated on Clawd, dumped him, and broke his heart by getting with his best friend when that DID NOT HAPPEN.
this is actually really funny because this is where Clawdeen and Cleo's rivalry began, because Clawdeen listened to rumors instead of her brother. This also started everyone's distrust of Spectra because of her fabricating stories
I had to read on the De Niles’ death to get a better understanding... so like basically, the wraps they used to preserve their selves, weren’t really magically like they were intended to be? Because from what I read, it said they had no “loyal followers” left, meaning they had people out to get them and basically Sabotage them? Someone please explain it better for me? Like how exactly did they “die”?
@@elonniemarie5174 I GOT THIS TOO. the mummy wraps were enchanted to put them into an unbreakable sleep...obviously it didn't work because they woke up hundreds, maybe thousands of years later and spent a long period of time in their bunker, with preserved food, water and servants. they didn't die but the magic in the wraps are preserving them and that means the family DOES age but much much slower. That being said, if they do not even have the SMALLESt wrap of cloth on them, they become dust in the wind

Actually Casta is based off of Beyonce. If you look at her designs you can see she resembles some of Beyonce looks. So she's is technically the beyonce of their world

Holy smokes, Circe is the last one I would expect to be represented somehow in Monster High, but that's neat. Since she's often depicted as a witch in modern media and all that
So cool to hear! Mh has so much interesting lore and facts! Idk if I knew about Honey's original name!! There's a few extra details as well! SPOILERS for Hexiciah Steam's San Diego Comic Con diary, but Cleo's mom is actually found!! It makes me so happy that some of the best MH characters get their reunions as a bookend to the series. The 50s kids who look like genderswapped versions of Abbey, Venus, and Twyla actually are new characters as well! Peach Mork, the concept artist who posted them refers to them as Skellesquatch, the Fronds, and Elvis Ghoustello respectively. Love your videos and looks! Can't wait to see more MH content. 💖💖💖💖

8:05 That's not Frankenstein. That's Frankenstein's Monster, Dr. Victor Frankenstein's in-lab creation. MH author Lisi Harrison calls him Vicktor Stien.
Technically Frankie is the youngest student, at an estimated 3 human years of age by the time the franchise ended. In the reboot, we last see Alivea less than a month old.
Actually, regarding the Freaky Fusion concept art, the male designs are not Venus, Abbey, or Twyla genderbent. Peach Mork, the artist who made the concept art of the 50s monsters, stated the concept characters are "The Fronds" and "Elvis Ghoustello" while the yeti boy is actually supposed to be a yeti-skeleton hybrid named "Skellsquatch."

Fingers crossed, that a monster high reboot can include some of these amazing story lines!!! I’m hoping that Mattel will make the line, 13 and up so they’re not so concerned about it being too mature.

Casta being Circe's daughter also makes sense because of her turning other students into animals with magic when she sings can be a resemblance to Circe turning all men that step in her island into animals, so that's a great detail too.
Also when you mentioned the characters that are based off of Greek Mythology, I'd like to add; Widowna Spider being th daughter of Arachne, Quill Talytino being the daughter of Harpies, and Avea trotter being half Centaur and half Harpy, which are both creatures from Greek Mythology!!
Great video! I think they made Casta daughter of Circe to avoid people assuming she's the daughter of the Wicked Witch of the West as the green skinned wicked Witch of the west is not public domain. It's also why she's more of a pale green than the witch from the wizard of Oz.

Honestly, I love the image of Casta getting up in Val’s face, saying she’s heard all about him from her ghoulfriends and has the powers to do something if he tries anything funny on her little brother, all with a smile on her face. Cool Big Witch Sis.
I love the dark backstories adults can find out and will go way over kids heads. I love dark story lines, so this is so cool!

I didn’t even know they had back stories of how they died. I thought all the Monster High characters were just monsters their whole life. wow I wanna hear more about their back stories now and how they died.

The naming a holiday after himself as a birthday present to his girlfriend and trying to break and steal Draculara's heart.
I would like to have read and seen more of a redemption arc before he finds someone new.

Love these videos! When monster high was hot and fresh, I was simply too young to remember a lot, I now being in my teens have started to go back to Monster High! I wanted to a few years ago but I didn't want to be teased by my family or anything, now Idgaf if people think it's strange Monster High is amazing! I'm really sad I never got a chance to get any of the dolls, I hope someday they make the dolls like they used to. I also love the stop motion of your character! Very cute and clean!

As someone who is practically OBSESSED with 1950’s fashion and movies like Grease and Hairspray, I’m honestly so sad and disappointed they didn’t go with the original plot for Freaky Fusion T^T 12 year old me would’ve broken my parent’s bank account buying all their dolls! It’s a shame that never came to fruition
