There is something so special and sweet about those times. Oh, I also like the dum-dum-dum-dumdums bouncing around my brain.
This was the first PTX song I ever heard. It was 2 years ago just before Christmas, I was on my own in the kitchen, not in a good head space and sitting on the floor, crying out for someone to help me when this song played on the radio (the only time I have ever heard a Pentatonix song played on the radio in the UK) it was as though angels were talking to me....their voices touched me. I am now totally hooked.

This is one of my favorite songs. I cry every time when Mitch signs 'The Great I Am' If I try to sing along, I always choke up at that line. Thank you once again Barry!
Barry, I'm here from the Community page to answer your question. What stood out to me that made this different was at around 3:13, the echo of their voices in the cave. I really liked that sound and it fits nicely with the video.
I've heard the Kenny Rogers & Wynonna Judd version of this beautiful song. But PTX made it a soul changing experience. Mitch singing "That sleeping child your holding is The Great I Am" brought literal tears to my eyes. Kevin has a sweet tone to his voice. His beat boxing and Cello playing aside, I would love to hear him sing more.
Pat, the man that wrote this song, Mark Lowry, sings it w/Voctave. OMG, you can feel the power of a song when a writer sings it. He's from a Gospel group.
The song was written by Christian comedian/singer Mark Lowery. He was thinking that, when he gets to Heaven, he wanted to talk to Mary and ask her these questions.
Mark Lowry from the Gaither vocal band was a cowriter and he sang it with such feeling and conviction with my favorite singer David Phelps ( Mitchell Grassi is a really REALLY close second...I love tenors) and Guy Penrod. You should check it out if you haven't already
Innocence is the PERFECT term for Kevin's voice when he sings. I think that sweet tone and sweeter face often makes me forget he is one of the older members of the group, and one of the tallest. I see him as this cute adorable innocent guy. That is the power of his music.
Older, yes, but in the context of Pentatonix, that is still very young. He was 22-23 when they were on Sing Off, and maybe 26 when this video was made. By my standards, still a baby! :-)

I thought it funny how you described each vocal in a way I would describe that individual. Scott as warm and gentle, Mitch as perfection, Kristie as so clear, Avi as bass and Kevin as innocence. Interesting how we come through our vocals.

22.- I remember a winter day, it had already gotten dark although it was not late, and my parents had come to pick me up. It rained a lot, and it was windy; we were all chatting, discussing the day, in the large kitchen in the heat of the wood. At one point, my mother made a gesture with her hand, as if she wanted us to be quiet for a moment, and told us: “I think I heard someone crying, didn't you?” We all pay attention; really in that house (wooden floors supported by huge wooden beams, doors with old handles, shutters, and the large stone fireplace) everything had its own sounds, its own soundtrack. A few minutes passed, everyone in silence, listening: the whistling of the wind, creaking, the pattering of the rain on the windows... ah! Yes!. Yes, there was a muffled sob, and then another. We all looked at each other, trying to figure out which item in the house could make a sound like that, or which animal was in trouble. But that was not normal. My grandfather stood up, and opened the upper part of the kitchen door; that door, also solid, with its shutters, and painted grass green, could be opened entirely, or only the upper half, as if it were a window. He stuck his head out, spent a few seconds observing, slowly shook his head, and made a gesture to calm us down. She came out immediately, and instantly the muffled sobs turned into intense sobs. Obviously, we all left behind.
How wonderful it is to see you, a professional, be drawn in and become as immersed in this group's vocals as most of all of us non-professionals. Really a great review of a tremendously talented group.
YAAAASSSSS!! I've been looking forward to you reacting to this one for AGES! One of my favourites. I also live for hearing you say "Without any further ado" in your beautiful Irish accent, Barry. 🙂

I am SO glad that you do a 2nd pass review on PTX’s works- analyze it first, then add commentary on the second go. They really do deserve a 2x listen. I mentioned on another reactor’s page that I too have been involved in a number of choral ensembles over the years, so I (like you) understand the immense challenges that go into the arrangement/ production of a cappella pieces. These folks are untouchable, as far as I’m concerned. As always, my friend, well done. Well analyzed. Well played. 🤘🏾
I am so enjoying joining you on your PTX journey! They sure can grab a hold of your heart with their beautiful voices. I love everything they do but their original songs and solo endeavors truly show how specially talented they are. Each one of them individually is unique and beautiful, but together as a group they are priceless. They do have a few original Christmas songs to! Scott with his boyfriend Mark just wrote a truly beautiful Christmas song called Thank You on the newest Christmas album. Scott plays the piano and Kevin plays the cello! Enjoy your journey!
Mark Lowry, who wrote the lyrics, said he got the idea for this song when he wondered what he would ask Mary if they were sitting at his kitchen table talking over a cup of coffee. He later took the lyrics to one of his best friends, Buddy Greene, who wrote the music for "Mary, Did You Know". What a brilliant idea! I love your format of listening twice to a song so you can separate your reaction from your review. Thank you!
I have to say that I simply love your review. This song always brings tears to my eyes. Can't wait to see more from you. Lots of love from Great Grandma in WA. State.

This song has become quite popular around Christmas here on this side of the pond. This song is one of their earlier works and I remember Pentaholics going nuts at its release because it was the first time Kevin had been featured in a singing role. Oh yes, I know you are the Queen of testing things, that’s why I had to let you in on this little secret.
THE perfect song performed perfectly...AMAZING.
Great critique, Barry.
A cliff hanger. Awesome writing, Ana. I hope your eye is better, we need to know more. Bravo!
@@StorytimeWithLana tomorrow!
I have missed you Ana. Glad you are back. Looking forward to #23. ❤
@@Mycophile11 I just got this notification, too. Didn't get Ana's, but got yours. Weird. It has to be a pick and choose kinda thing w/YT.

One of my fave Christmas songs, made more perfect by PTX. Glad you live it cuz I sure do!!!
How wonderful it is to see you, a professional, be drawn in and become as immersed in this group's vocals as most of all of us non-professionals. Really a great review of a tremendously talented group.
Thank you very much Bruce, that’s very kind of you to say. I hope to see you again on my other reactions
It doesn’t matter what time of year you her this song, it’s beautiful
Another take my breath away performance. ❤
Thank you Barry... I had never heard this version by PTX....😊
@@brendaboudinot6431 Thank you Brenda. I’m so pleased that you got to experience it for the first time with me.
YAAAASSSSS!! I've been looking forward to you reacting to this one for AGES! One of my favourites.
I also live for hearing you say "Without any further ado" in your beautiful Irish accent, Barry. 🙂
When Gabriel came, she knew. This version of this song puts me at the Peace of God in my soul…EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Have a blessed 2022 everyone.
I love your reactions to what I think is the best a Capella group on the planet 🌎
My Wife and I have followed them since first song. My daughter and her saw them two years ago, I was in rehab. They told me about the concert and their eyes were on fire.
I, retired musician, love their harmonies and punctualities.
This is the song that started my Pentatonix journey. I was completely hooked after hearing this. This is just amazing and it never, ever gets old.
All of them have incredibly beautiful voices! Thank you for your reaction, Barry. I completely agree with you.
Barry you can listen to a Christmas song from Pentatonix every day from now until Christmas to get them all in!! Thanks for your awesome reactions; I look forward to each one. And hopefully I will see you in Nashville next year!!!!
This is the first PTX song I heard....... I'm hooked for life
I am SO glad that you do a 2nd pass review on PTX’s works- analyze it first, then add commentary on the second go.
I saw on Twitter that they wrote the song--is there any way to hear it yet?
@@meghanmacqueen5157 Their new album We need a Little Christmas is already out on streaming platforms.
@@PtxXtp Thanks :)
Thank you!
You seriously need to watch "Mark Lowery" sing this . He wrote it and is amazing . As for PTX , I can never find the right words . Vocal perfection !
PS : I would love to hear your voice as well ,
I like the way you let us listen to the complete song with only your facial expressions and not interrupt the singers!
Another song to give you chills.
I cannot fault PTX. And glad to hear Kevin’s solo(gifted cellist).
I have to say that I simply love your review. This song always brings tears to my eyes. Can't wait to see more from you. Lots of love from Great Grandma in WA. State.
That moment when you realize that when Kirstie sings Mary, the light behind her perfectly resembles Mother Mary's veil. If you have noticed that already then lucky you!!!
I cry most of the time when I hear this song, it speaks to your soul!
This was the first song I heard by Pentatonix and it is still my favourite. :-)
The perfect harmony is exactly what turned me into a huge fan of Pentatonix!
I’d never heard this song before I saw this group’s video. No complaints!
bonjour Barry Magnifique ! comment ne pas aimer ces voix superbes! Prends soin de toi !
Zó MÓÓI zijn de stemmen bij elkaar in harmonie van deze jonge mensen
SPECTACULAIR én zónder muziek‼️
I happened upon this channel by watching the "Pentatonix"...I followed them right to this end and I and I am so grateful for this. Barry, You are spectacular...You cried when I cried...you felt the music just as I did. There were no horns, pianos, guitars to distract...just the instruments of the singers...they are magnificent. I have found a new group and I have found a "NEW MAN TO FOLLOW" you are magnificent, Barry. I will follow you anywhere
.
Such a beautiful song, wonderfully performed by Pentatonix! Love the setting of the cave, the lighting, the echo of their voices. I agree Barry.... PERFECTION!!!! 💖✨✨
Barry, you have the most beautiful and sweet expressions on your face when you listen to something that touches you. I think that's the best part of your reactions. Although I love listening to your thoughts as well!! So well done! Blessings and hugs coming your way!! You're so special...
This song has become quite popular around Christmas here on this side of the pond. This song is one of their earlier works and I remember Pentaholics going nuts at its release because it was the first time Kevin had been featured in a singing role. People just about fell over catatonic because "the beatboxer" could sing so well.
I like the way you review. One time thru, the second reaction....and NEVER interruption.
This one's for Barry: I've scanned through your comments below and did not see where this was mentioned. The first time I heard this song I was in a church watchingl/listening to the Passion Play. I don't know for certain, but I believe this is where the song originated.😇
I have heard a lot of versions of this song that we’re good but this was perfection you don’t wanna hear nobody else seeing it after hearing them they are amazing and God gave them a beautiful beautiful gift
There’s a version of this song on the deluxe album with the same arrangement but adding orchestra, it just adds this whole other level to the beauty.
If you don't want a cappella.
