Kevin has said at one point that he didn't even know he could sing until he joined Pentatonix.
PTX sings the Sugarplum Fairy.
Barry: It has no words.
I know. It's amazing.
They won a Grammy for that one too. It's so clever and so much fun xo
One of my favorites
YES!!!! Barry, could we please get a reaction for this one?
Yesssss please react to Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy 🧚♀️
Mary did you know is the greatest song that ever was made and they did it to perfection
heavenly..Kevin was a wonderful surprise.
This was the first PTX song I ever heard. It was 2 years ago just before Christmas, I was on my own in the kitchen, not in a good head space and sitting on the floor, crying out for someone to help me when this song played on the radio (the only time I have ever heard a Pentatonix song played on the radio in the UK) it was as though angels were talking to me....their voices touched me. I am now totally hooked.
Bless xx 🇨🇦
Mine too! Their version is my fave
God knew you needed to hear it right then, the voices of angels. ❤📿👑
Be strong. Have faith. Trust. God bless you.
Also the first PTX song I heard. When you kiss your little baby, you kiss the face of God…..I tear up every time
I so love his face listening to to this one. It's the best
"Without further ado, here's the review!"
Cue Ghirardelli commercial.
" When you kiss your little baby you kiss the face of God" Beautiful lyrics. 🙏🤗
It brought tears to my eyes.
@@cyndianderson7056 Mark Lowry was a genius when he wrote this song! Although I love the Pentatonix version best of all the versions I have heard, Mark Lowry's version with Voctave shows what he meant and felt when he wrote it
@@TheKsnanna I just looked up the video of Mark Lowry and Voctave. That was beautiful. Just beautiful. Thanks for pointing it out to me. I saved it to watch over and over. He puts so much emotion into it, and sings so beautifully.
And I think whether you believe in God or not that line speaks volumes to you.
@@TheKsnanna his version with Guy Pernod and David Phelps backing him up is the best. Nobody puts the feeling into it like Mark!
The location is Bronson Caves near Los Angeles, California. It is best known as being the setting for the Batcave in the 1960’s tv show Batman.
Coming from the community page.
I feel that 3:01-3:28 was much more dynamic for "When you kiss your little baby, you kiss the face of God." Then as PTX continued with "Mary, did you know?" almost as a round with each voice coming in, it sounded as if the angels were singing to Mary.
Overall, a more reverent feel for the entire song.
This is maybe the most beautiful performance that I've ever heard.
Don't miss Voctave's rendition, featuring Mark Lowry (the guy who wrote the song).
A tribute to our BLESSED MOTHER
Another wonderful Christmas song to soothe my soul
THE perfect song performed perfectly...AMAZING.
Great critique, Barry.
I already knew the answer to this question and "Great I am" will be the answer to both. (It's my favorite part of the song... Brings it all together) Need a timestamp, Okay, listened through the reaction, so missed it.
Here ya go (in the review) Starts 8:11.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. They followed the same arrangement as the original and w/Kirstin's voice in the mix... Beautiful!
Merry Christmas, Barry!
If you're gonna do PTX Christmas music...well that's a rabbit hole all its own!
I like the way you let us listen to the complete song with only your facial expressions and not interrupt the singers!
This is one of my favorite songs. I cry every time when Mitch signs 'The Great I Am' If I try to sing along, I always choke up at that line. Thank you once again Barry!
One of mine too. It’s absolutely beautiful.
THAT line, too.
Me too. 😭❤📿
Barry, you must listen to them sing silent night in church.
Innocence is the PERFECT term for Kevin's voice when he sings. I think that sweet tone and sweeter face often makes me forget he is one of the older members of the group, and one of the tallest. I see him as this cute adorable innocent guy. That is the power of his music.
Older, yes, but in the context of Pentatonix, that is still very young. He was 22-23 when they were on Sing Off, and maybe 26 when this video was made. By my standards, still a baby! :-)
I've heard the Kenny Rogers & Wynonna Judd version of this beautiful song. But PTX made it a soul changing experience. Mitch singing "That sleeping child your holding is The Great I Am" brought literal tears to my eyes. Kevin has a sweet tone to his voice. His beat boxing and Cello playing aside, I would love to hear him sing more.
Pat, the man that wrote this song, Mark Lowry, sings it w/Voctave. OMG, you can feel the power of a song when a writer sings it.
He's from a Gospel group.
@@StorytimeWithLana Thanks Lana, I do love a Gospel group. Especially when they sing from the heart.
Mary did you know. Oh so beautiful. Would even make the angels cry. Amen Hallelujah
B☘️,
Right before 3:00 and right before 3:30. I had decided to put my brain aside and just listen to my heart. I don’t want to even try to figure out why I chose those spots.
I liked the whole song, but since we were asked…..
I liked the female voice in this version. It brings back memories of kissing the cheeks of my own babies. There is something so special and sweet about those times.
Oh, I also like the dum-dum-dum-dumdums bouncing around my brain.
Marching over here from your Community page. Time stamp 3:10. Powerful, especially Mitch. Loved it.
I love your reactions to what I think is the best a Capella group on the planet 🌎
Barry, did you know? Nope, he did not know "Mary, did you know?"
Love PTX's version of it. Great choice.
Happy Day 14 of Barry's Christmas Reactions, Merry Christmas! (11 days until Christmas)
Since Nov. 2014 the Pentatonix post of this performance on Y.T. has been viewed OVER 278 MILLION times and that certainly isn't a mystery.
Barry, I'm here from the Community page to answer your question. What stood out to me that made this different was at around 3:13, the echo of their voices in the cave. I really liked that sound and it fits nicely with the video.
Devastatingly BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I thought it funny how you described each vocal in a way I would describe that individual. Scott as warm and gentle, Mitch as perfection, Kristie as so clear, Avi as bass and Kevin as innocence. Interesting how we come through our vocals.
The most gorgeous version of this song, ever.
One of my fave Christmas songs, made more perfect by PTX. Glad you live it cuz I sure do!!!
I love this song. It's July 2022, and I'm still listening to this song. Perfection. I love the Barry Bus too.❤️
Me too & me too (July 2022)
ABSOLUTELY Beautiful 💯❤❤❤❤💞🥰💋❤
Always when I listen to this group, I can now know what angels sound like singing in heaven!! God Bless!
Exactly what I was thinking. I hope when I pass, this is what I hear. 🙏✝️😭❤️
This is my favorite Christmas Song...ever!! To hear Pentatonix sing it, I get chills every time!!
That moment when you realize that when Kirstie sings Mary, the light behind her perfectly resembles Mother Mary's veil. If you have noticed that already then lucky you!!!
thank you for this reaction Barry ... by the way ... i think Mary really did know .. she hid these things in her heart ..
Written by Mark Lowry. There’s a great performance of video of him singing it with Voctave.
Yes, please react to this!
Another beautiful singer, although totally different from PTX.
Oh Barry this is so beautiful I'm crying so hard listening. Thank you
I cry every time I listen to this song.
I like the way you review. One time thru, the second reaction....and NEVER interruption.
Dance of the sugar plum fairy! Great reaction. This song is gorgeous and they do it justice.
I am SO glad that you do a 2nd pass review on PTX’s works- analyze it first, then add commentary on the second go. They really do deserve a 2x listen.
I mentioned on another reactor’s page that I too have been involved in a number of choral ensembles over the years, so I (like you) understand the immense challenges that go into the arrangement/ production of a cappella pieces. These folks are untouchable, as far as I’m concerned. As always, my friend, well done. Well analyzed. Well played. 🤘🏾
A family friend sang Mary Did You Know 3 weeks ago at my moms funeral, her death was completely unexpected, just 64, PTX is the only group she would listen to sing this song aside from the family friend who has done it for years at church for Christmas. A month before she died I took her to our first PTX concert where they sang this song. I have found watching the videos from PTX as well as the reaction videos has helped me especially when the nights get long. I've now watched several of yours in a row.
I’m very sorry for your loss. Thank you for choosing my channel during this very difficult time. My sincere condolences.
Their voices are OTHER Worldly, and there aren't enough earthly words to totally describe them. LOVE
This is my all time favorite song my nurse sang this for me in the hospital when I thought I was going to die so I asked her to sing it for me. Ty for reacting to this song
Always makes me cry this one 😢❤❤❤❤
I’d never heard this song before I saw this group’s video. No complaints!
Too perfect! 👍🏻 and the cavern! 😍 and your face! 😊💕
Glory to God and the Lamb for ever!
The setting reminds me of the Tomb. I felt that was their intent, to show the empty tomb of the resurrected Son of God, the Lamb of God! Rejoice! So uplifting! John 3:16! Perfection!!
Mark Lowry from the Gaither vocal band was a cowriter and he sang it with such feeling and conviction with my favorite singer David Phelps ( Mitchell Grassi is a really REALLY close second...I love tenors) and Guy Penrod. You should check it out if you haven't already
It doesn’t matter what time of year you her this song, it’s beautiful
What gets me, is that nobody makes mention of the fact that the big black guys "boom box" percussion sounds are perfectly performed and interspersed at just the right places. And he can sing!
This is another one of my favorite Christmas songs, and PTX really did an amazing job with this! 💜 I would say 3:10 because it sounded so beautiful and haunting. 😊
Thanks for your reaction to this video. ☺️
🎅🏻🎄🎁🦌🛷❄️⛄
Hauntingly beautiful and holy. Love your reactions Barry.
This song never fails to give to me goose-bumps....and is one of my absolute favs.
Barry. Your reactions to Pentotonix is exactly like mine. They are flawless.
I just love this song. Each year we did a Christmas musical at church. During the manger scene there would be a woman holding the newest baby born in our congregation while sitting in a "manger". The associate pastor was dressed in clothing of the time (we had a great prop group). He has a great voice and he would sing this song to "Mary" as she sat there holding her baby Jesus. What an awesome feeling would come over me. PTX echos that feeling.
My favorite PTX song! I listen to it every single day when I drive to work in chicago!
This video makes me cry. I am a person of faith and this heals a lot of my brokenness. Excellent review.
This is the song.. that Made Me Cry and Hearing it from Them❣️❤️😇🙏❤️
Hiya Barry. I have watched you just twice,. Can I tell you how I appreciate your face as you listen? Your eyes shine as you look right at me/ us. My oldest son is 29. When he was in high school he introduced me to them. I'm in Awe every time. Every. Time!
I cry. Literally every time. It's THAT beautiful and THAT good.
So beautiful. Great reaction.
It's after 4am here in Iowa, smack in the middle of the USA. I was just about to finally go to sleep, and I get a notification that It's me, Barry, so had ro watch. This has bewn my favorite Christmas song for yeara, PTX just kills it! Sooo good, and has been my favorite PTX song for years, until Amazing Grace came out. PTX doesn't have a bad song
Check out composer Mark Lowry singing it with Voctave.
@@TheDivayenta I have heard it. It is beautiful, I still prefer the PTX cover.
@@kristinheggen7894 met too Kristen, Mark's is good, but he unintentionally wrote it for Pentatonix
The guy with the gentle voice who had a small solo part is also one of the major sound makers in Pentatonix.
I'm convinced that these amazing singers were brought together by God himself they are just meant to be and now with Matt there is no song they can't do and sound perfect doin them just amazing!!!
Try to hear their Carol of the Bells..it will blow you away!!
bonjour Barry Magnifique ! comment ne pas aimer ces voix superbes! Prends soin de toi !
You seriously need to watch "Mark Lowery" sing this . He wrote it and is amazing . As for PTX , I can never find the right words . Vocal perfection !
PS : I would love to hear your voice as well ,
This is my favorite Christmas Carol. Always has been. Thanks for the review/reaction. Love your format.
First time I ever heard PTX sing this song, it brought tears to my eyes! 🥹 such power, and talent. They Still just about can bring me to tears.
This is the first PTX song I heard....... I'm hooked for life
I have to say that I simply love your review. This song always brings tears to my eyes. Can't wait to see more from you. Lots of love from Great Grandma in WA. State.
Barry, may I ask you a reaction to Pentatonix "Silent Night"? It's magnificent ✨
Yes yes yes! I couldn't agree more!
Agree
Their live version is so fantastic!
Yes!!
Yes!!! Yess!!!
Beautiful review! I love how you let the song play entirely in the beginning. You got a subscriber.
Thank you very much. I’m so pleased you subscribed.
This is the song that started my Pentatonix journey. I was completely hooked after hearing this. This is just amazing and it never, ever gets old.
One of my favorite Christmas Songs. PTX is fantastic!!!
5 part harmony at its most beautiful. Thank you for reacting Barry
"Mary, did you know" is a beautiful Christmas song, written for a Christmas play, in 1984 I have just listened to Home Frees version, to compare with Pentatonix. Both are stunningly beautiful. Apparently, the cave in Pentatonix video, is from the "Batman" television series. IMHO it gives it the warmth, purity, humbleness to the song. Thank you for listening through the whole songs Barry, rather than chopping a video to give your reactions. It becomes extremely distracting and irritating. You are a professional 🙂👍
I enjoyed your review. You gave your reasons why you saw them as you did as a singing group as if you were a vocal teacher. 🌠🌹. The Flower
Next Christmas suggestions! Silent Night (which is a live version in a church setting), and Carol of the Bells
YAAAASSSSS!! I've been looking forward to you reacting to this one for AGES! One of my favourites.
I also live for hearing you say "Without any further ado" in your beautiful Irish accent, Barry. 🙂
How wonderful it is to see you, a professional, be drawn in and become as immersed in this group's vocals as most of all of us non-professionals. Really a great review of a tremendously talented group.
Thank you very much Bruce, that’s very kind of you to say. I hope to see you again on my other reactions
They just dropped their 6th Christmas album. React to dance of the sugar plum fairy. They got a Grammy for it.
Love you Barry. You could easily react to a couple PTXmas songs every day between now and Christmas and still not cover them all. They have released 6 PTXmas albums!
This song brought tears...
I certainly haven't heard every piece of music ever sung, but this piece must stand with the very best I have ever heard performed.
It's got everything anyone could ever hope for and then some. I can't believe that it's been around for over 8 years now and we didn't know about it until last fall.
I was just told that the group's YT posing has tallied over 290 million views since 2014.
All of them have incredibly beautiful voices! Thank you for your reaction, Barry. I completely agree with you.
Mark Lowry, who wrote the lyrics, said he got the idea for this song when he wondered what he would ask Mary if they were sitting at his kitchen table talking over a cup of coffee.
He later took the lyrics to one of his best friends, Buddy Greene, who wrote the music for "Mary, Did You Know". What a brilliant idea!
I love your format of listening twice to a song so you can separate your reaction from your review. Thank you!
Another song to give you chills.
Christmas And PTX.....OH GOSH YES! This has been my absolute Favorite song for the holidays. Thank you and I’ll be watching for the next one.
I cry most of the time when I hear this song, it speaks to your soul!
Mark Lowery and Buddy Greene were the writers of this song. I simply love this one- did Mary KNOW who her baby was? I think she did.
Barry, I love the Bari in your intro. This is in my top 5 for PTX.
It's like the angels visited Mary and told her the complete story . They do a version of "Silent Night" in a nave of a church, truly stunning. Highly recommended
When Gabriel came, she knew. This version of this song puts me at the Peace of God in my soul…EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Have a blessed 2022 everyone.
The perfect harmony is exactly what turned me into a huge fan of Pentatonix!
