    The G502 might not be the best gaming mouse, but for productivity it's a charm. Horizontal scrolling and a free spinning mouse wheel add to the weight (and make the noise while shaking).

    • @kornkernel2232
      @kornkernel2232 2 года назад +21

      Yep, for me it's the best all rounder. It had enough amount of buttons for quick actions/macros and can even add more if using G-Shift feature.
      The free spinning scroll wheel is awesome, I never thought that I will need it but since I used MX Anywhere, I can't get use any other mice anymore without one. And this is why I'm basically stuck at G502. It would be nice if they can weight shed it, but it doesn't bother me much even playing FPS. The weight actually added control for me and eliminate unwanted shake that can ruin the aim.

    • @Pr0digyZRX
      @Pr0digyZRX 2 года назад +2

      But when you "lock" the scroll wheel (at least personally) most of the clicking noise stops. Plus you can change the weights in it for more or less weight... making it one pretty great gaming mouse. Best mouse I've used... plus the 25K Hero sensor is kinda great

      @James Stubbs This feature (horizontal scrolling) + Free-spinning mouse wheel makes the G502 impossible to replace. Free-spinning is perfect at work when scrolling through lots of code, and gaming without the horizontal scrolling... I just dont know how I side-stepped before in games.

The amount of buttons is the reason I went for the Proteus in the first place and still using a 502 Lightspeed.

Some games and programs it came in handy with indiscriminate zooming or resizing.
      It's just a novel nice to have that I can't think of how you could substitute or one-up by other methods. It's like RGB, it either has it or it doesn't. Use and love it if you want, turn it off if you don't. I enjoy the simplicity of the feature.

      Absolutely love all the buttons. Makes one handed use so much more convenient. The amount of utility you can squeeze out of this mouse is insane.
      I personally have it set up this way:
      Front button left of LMB: Middle click because the actual middle click broke (G-Shift: Volume Up)
      Back button left of LMB: Alt+Tab (G-Shift: Volume down)
      Middle button behind scroll wheel: Switch DPI
      Big thumb button for G-Shift
      LMB + G-Shift: Enter
      RMB + G-Shift: Mute Sound (This has saved me so many times)
      Front Thumb Button + G-Shift: Screenshot (Win + Shift + S) also incredibly useful
      Button behind scroll wheel + G-Shift: Mute Mic
      Wheel Left + G-Shift: Ctrl + C
      Wheel Right + G-Shift: Ctrl + V
      The copy paste one is especially great, because not only is it extremely convenient, is also let's you do zoom if you hold G-Shift, tilt the wheel sideways and scroll, because it's holding Ctrl

Usually I have to either pull back into a cramped/uncomfortable palm/fingertip hybrid (most of fingers and top palm resting on mouse, with a void between the mouse hump and lower palm), or my thumb is too far forward in a full, proper palm grip to reach the side buttons. The g502 is incredible, especially for the sometimes 30 dollar price tag. Above the GPro, Model O, death adder, viper, and g303, it's been my absolute go to, despite the weight, despite the wire. It's lasted for what is basically my entire time gaming (8ish years) and had had no issues at all. Realistically, the mouse buttons will fall off before you go out of rated spec, and the mouse is plenty strong enough to withstand more than a little gamer rage

    It's easy to be put off by plastic that feels "cheap" out of the box but often, they're the ones that resist finger oils the best. The ones that go for the premium textured finishes often just feel nice when it's new but hardly as good a year later of everyday use.
    Also, on the subject of fatigue on heavy mice, you're mistaken. People who use heavy mice go with higher DPI and therefore most of the movement is done with just small wrist movements whereas, with light mice, you go low DPI with much more arm movement from either elbow or shoulders. You can get fatigued with both, just in different ways. It's not that heavy mice will get you more fatigued.

But, if you do need the extra buttons and scroll wheel, the G502 is still an option.

  • @Dopestsoldier01

    IMO, in order to really compete with the G502, it needs the same or better mouse wheel functions, especially the infinite scroll and the left and right tilt. It needs the G7+G8 buttons, and most importantly, needs to lose the wire.
    They've got the honeycomb design over the G502, but if Logitech ever makes a lightweight version of the Lightspeed, while keeping most of it's distinguishing features, it's going to be near impossible to beat.

    The comparison is lacking without the left/right and free scroll, but that's because I also use my mouse for programming, free scroll with a higher refresh rate screen going through larger files in an IDE and then instant locking back to normal scroll as I see a piece I want to properly check, left/right scroll through tabs is especially useful once they start stacking too high with split groups, etc.
    I'm also a fan of the weight since in productivity I want the mouse to stop the moment I stop shifting it, and I often swap between a lower 800 dpi to 3200, and at the higher dpi a lighter mouse would usually mean overshoot/more control needed to stop correctly.
    The pricing for this mouse is also higher, here in Europe the G502 is 44 EUR including delivery on a basically permanent special, 69 EUR is not competitive (though it also seems to be on a 58 EUR special).
