@@Calocarv I’ve sent mine to Huawei Centre here nearby where I am from to change the battery.
Regarding the ip68 rating is exactly what I asked first, and the technician told me they will re-seal like how it was before with an adhesive that is allowed by Huawei.
And yes, after few days of changing the battery, the question was still in my head.
And somehow my phone decided to take swimming lessons, which to my surprise, it survives.

I bought my mate 20 pro 2 years ago for 90 euros, with a cracked screen and back. It took a swin in a river, with two holes at the bottom of the screen, and survived. I didn't even turn it off. The only downside was that i had to flip my charger, that it would supercharge, for a few days. I still can't believe how reliable this phone is. I even bought p40 pro, hoping to get something even better. But to my surprise, p40 pro felt cheap af, and the software bugs made it completely unusable. Now, im searching for a new mate 20 pro, but it kinda feels strange to buy exactly the same phone :D

I have this phone since late 2019, bought it for around $500 (including my country's taxes) and holy crap, it was probably the best deal I've made in my life. Even after 2,5 years it works perfectly fine, the battery is holding up really well, the build quality is top-notch and the phone feels super premium to me. One problem I have is that I broke the volume button while doing a screenshot and I can only use it to turn the volume up XD, if I want to lower the volume I have to use the slider on the screen. I got used to this already, so I don't mind. I was expecting to change my phone by the end of this year, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to find something even as good as the Mate in the same budget. The biggest deal breaker for me is definitely wireless charging. I really can't imagine my new smartphone without it. Sadly, most manufactures only put this in their flagships. It's quite weird that almost 3 years later I won't get noticeably better stuff in the same price range.

Yeah this phone was really ahead of its time and the best Huawei phone ever. Period. Other than a 120 Hz refresh rate and obviously a more modern SoC its missing nothing you would expect from a 2024 phone. Matter of fact, it even exceeds many modern phones with a 1440p resolution (something that gets rarer and rarer and I hate that its going away) and 3D Face unlock which I find better than Finger print sensors.

This reminds me of the situation with my Galaxy Note 3. I bought it in early 2013 and used it till 2018. sure, official firmware was shit and I used custom roms on it after I paid off the 1 year of monthly payment contract and it was a great phone.
When it comes to Exynos, after the S6 release this CPU/SoC got really bad. I hated it when I got the Note 8.
To be honest, after upgrading from my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 to Galaxy Z Fold 3, I was glad that Samsung put the Snapdragon 888 (SM8350) CPU into the EU version of the phone. It's a great phone and I love the small screen over the foldable one since I can easily access every part of the screen without moving my hand. When it comes to Huawei, I could recommend the Mate 40 Pro or P30 Pro. I had both of those phones in my hands for about a week, I was able to repair them quite easily and since I'm tired of the RAM management of my shitty secondary phone (a iPhone 13 Pro Max or whatever the biggest model was), I'm currently trying to get my hands on a second hand Mate 40 Pro with broken backcover from a private seller but I'm waiting till he get's back from his business trip.
Btw. Did you tried to use google camera app for taking pictures?
I used this on many devices and sometimes I got better picture quality than on the stock app.
Sure, this app only works on google devices but there's a community of developers who unlocked the app to work on any phone. Yes, even those cheap outdoor phones from Amazon or Aliexpress.
Just search for "gcam hub" on google or duckduckgo search engine and visit the celsoazevedo homepage that shows in the results or the xda-developers forum to (for example) get device specific config data that can be loaded into the modified google camera app

Nice video. I got my mate 20 pro in 2018 included with my mobile plan :) It is still going strong, like you said no bugs ever. No freezes, no heating up, everything just works. I have also had many phones, older and newer, none can compare except maybe sony xperia. (Sony xperia z3 tablet compact 8" was the greatest small tablet i ever used, unforfunately dropped it and smashed the screen). Samsung is always full of bloatware and slows down over time. Have tried iphones/ipads and really don't like the experience, feels so dumbed down.
The mate 20 pro was also a lucky choice/timing because of the google ban on Huawei after this model. The main issue will be end of life support from manufacturer and android.
I will be so sad if this beautiful phone stops working. If/when it does, can anyone here recommend a current phone that can compare to or beat the mate 20 pro?

Currently watching this on my Mate 20 Pro. It's been the best phone I've ever used and owned from new since May 2019. Battery life is still great and everything else works perfectly, apart from the charging port itself. I really didn't want to upgrade this phone but my arm has been twisted due to the charging port issue (charging cable doesn't always stay connected) and the lack of security updates, the last of which was May last year.
I could get round the issue with the charging port by using wireless charging but it's the security updates and the lack of support this phone no longer receives which stops this device in its tracks 😔

China version was having radio reception problems here in the US Hudson Valley suburbs - not receiving calls and texts. Just got a OnePlus 10 Pro+ and I'm very happy with it. Still the Mate 9 works so well when visiting Central American Countries who still use 4G. Still works good here in the US with T-Mobile too. Me too. I too have Mate 20 pro from 2019. My girlfriend have iPhone 13 , my brother iPhone 12 mini. And some of my best friends have Mate 30,40 pro and P40pro, plus one poor student with s21 . No one of this phones have REAL advantage. Little this , little that. But before that every 1,5/2 year I was buying A LOT BEETER PHONE. Mate 20 pro is good enough .

I'm still using mine since launch. Fingerprint sensor sucks from the start aaand pretty much everything else works still great! Usb port a bit bad but it's normal for 3 years of use. Camera maybe not as amazing as iPhone 13 but still great!

Best way to unlock mate for me is smart unlock with my watch. Basically when my watch is on my hand, and phone in my hand - phone unlocks.

I too am still using my mate 20 pro. Desperately looking to replace it somewhere soon as I have cracked my display. But I am not finding a current device that seems worth the price. My battery is still original and starting to become weak but still okay given that they had the 40w speed charger back in 2018. 70% in 30 min still holds true as advertised. However ONE THING I really hated about the mate 20 pro from the start is the really really poor speakers and I depend on them A LOT. So I am trying to figure out which one of the current phones has the best speakers because apart from that not much seems to have happened in comparison to the mate 20 pro to justify paying a flagship price in 2022.

I've been using the mate 20 pro for 42 months and still love it and wouldn't trade it for any phone today, maybe the mate 20 pro if it still uses google services like g play. Otherwise, I prefer to stay with mate 20 pro.
Mate 20 pro still The king for price of 200€ SH PHONE..

I have too a mate 20 pro and bought half year ago a iPhone 12. It can't be compared to mate 20 pro flawless texting, display quality, notch, scroll speed. (love notch, I was masking my old LG g4 with a notch like tape cut on, and said wow, and next year notch invented. Stoled from me the idea. 😑

It is looking a little dated now compared to flagships but it shows just how good it was back then. Same can be said with find x2 pro though, similar year I believe but the oppo is Miles better.

definitely a great device - i am hoping AT&T does not block it in their scheme to push customers to buy a new device - wishing it had a ROM update or development

Just to say: since the S21 line, Samsung are using vastly improved Exynos (2100) - they appear to be very similar to (and sometimes better than) the Snapdragon versions in many tests...

Ive run this phone as my daily since August 2019 - its great but I dont think its right to say that you need to spend £1200 to get a better one.. My battery is currently 38% degraded over new - apps crash on the outdated Android OS and the charger port has gone a bit funky. Its a great phone but Ill be upgrading this month.. Something like an Oppo Find x5 for £450 is a nice all round upgrade I think

Hey Mate, I'm still on my Mate20 Pro since it came out, never had a better phone whatsoever. If I had to make switch now, do you have any recommendations? Should I just stick with it until it dies of old age or maybe go with an Honor? So sad that the stupid ban on Android fucked up Huawei!
