Video Jukebox - behind the scenes at MTV (USA) 1986

- An except from the BBC's "Video Jukebox" presentation (one night in 1986, BBC2 played pop videos all night long - and things were never the same again) but of course to balance out all that unconstrained hip-swinging, time also for some serious documentary technique as our hosts John Peel and John Waters take a look behind the scenes at the American TV station that started it all barely five years earlier - MTV. Remember, these are the days before the UK had cable or satellite to any significant degree, so to British homes only just getting used to the dizzy heights of having FOUR television channels, the idea of a TV station that played only music videos must have seemed like as unusual then as perhaps, with hindsight, it does today.
Haphazardly edited to reduce the length of the Dire Straits and Buggles music videos, which would doubtless otherwise upset RUclips, but you'll never see the join... As long as you don't look too closely. Enjoy.
Contributions from, and interviews with Martha Quinn, John Landis, Thomas Dolby, Bob Pittman, Dave Marsh (Rock Critic), Midge Ure, Madness, some MTV Viewers, and Malcolm McLaren. Видеоклипы
I love Martha Quinn!! 😍😍😍
The original VJs of MTV (1981-1986):
Mark Goodman
Alan Hunter Martha Quinn
J.J. Jackson Nina Blackwood
I watched this. I was 7. It opened my eyes.
Martha gotta be almost 60 yrs old and still looks great!!!!
SHE'S 63
Yes, MCQ lovers unite reminiscing about the good old days.
😎💛great
I had a crush on her. She was pretty fine
We all did, believe me.
She was pretty and fine.
Funny that Malcolm reduces MTV content to clothes, but it makes sense since Punk really started as a look from the shop he and Vivienne Westwood ran, with music secondary. And the average MTV viewers seen here seem to agree with him that fashion is the main point, and claim that Martha Quinn has failed in that area. Those girls were just jealous!
I bet these guys still refer to the US as “the Colonies”
No question. Probably get on their knees for the king. How humiliating.
Martha Quinn such a hot sweet thing and also loves to steal purses. My kinda woman ❤️
God Martha, I don't know if your hair has ever looked better on Mtv...
ZZ Top is from Texas
That first guy doesn't know shiite from shinola as far as ZZ Top goes. Billy and the Boys were always in my collection from 74 onward. They weren't dependent on MYTV, but they gave it some validity to the crowd that had been fans of ZZ Top since Tres Hombres and Rio Grande Mud.
"that first guy" looool
THAT'S JOHN FUCKING PEEL SON!
Martha Quinn was hot no doubt but MTV in general sucked.
