I had the same issue with my golf r. It was caused by l loose battery connection. VW also replaced my wheel. It does make the car feel new again. Great vid I wish I had seen this before I had my problems.

I've a polo gti and had the same problem. I did a scan with my topdon and did notice that it showed 11.3v on the top of the display which was strange. When the car was started it did go to 14.4v so it was charging. After a drive it was 12.2v which is low. I'll check the connections in the boot, maybe its a slightly duff battery?
This is happening to My 2020 golf S style and it constantly comes up do you have any recommendations as I have only bought the car 5 months ago from a very good dealership/showroom, I bright my car up last week to check diagnostics and they said everything was fine that it was to do with my censors my traction control it was grand all that day but the next day it starting doing it again
If you can help me in any way at all about how I can get it sorted for me
I had the same issue on Golf Mk8 GTE. Today I collected it from the dealer. The steering wheel was changed, and yes it feels like a brand new car!😊 I hope the issue is not coming back, though so many guys said it appears again in some moment!

My golf is 2 months out of warranty and they want just under 2k to replace the wheel! What a joke. Anythjing I can do?

I have a similar issue with my 2024 Jetta. It's screwed up my GPS, I can't use my interior microphone, remote start and the app does not connect to my car. I am told the issue is with the SOS module and the part is on back order with no ETA. I saw other videos with Audi's having the same error message from 2 years ago. Can't work out why this is still a problem that hasn't been sorted out.
Is the steering wheel the only fix for this problem? .... I feel like I have been given the run around. It's been checkout twice now with no resolve and I have only had the car for 3 months. So furious!
Sad to hear. Not sure about the issues you've experienced but it looks like you may need a new microphone as it appears that's the problem. The steering wheel resolved the issues I had and others with same issues.
Did they give you an new engine cover as well..as the old one was recalled due to fire risk.
On my Golf r mk8 if you push or pull the wheel it stops as well.

The engine cover is on a back order for me and they did mention that they have ordered it.
Hello I have the identicsl problem on my golf 8 R, I have it only 8 days because I buy it used and I dont think that is possible that it has so stupid issue,but now looks that is real.
But now it start to more anoing and persistent.

My Golf is a mk 8 style 150 which has had front assist problem, SOS unit replaced, travel assist problem, steering wheel replaced, rear assist problem, rear sensor control unit replaced. It's currently being assessed beacause 2 days after the rear sensor control unit replacement I started the car and the alarm and error message came on again, and again the day after. Fingers crossed for a permanent fix but I'm not optimistic.
Modern day electrics. I know my C8 2018 A7 had loads of crappy issues like lighting faults, soft door closure faults, spoiler malfunction etc but my 2019 A7 was fine. Sometimes you just end up with a bad one.
I have the same issue with my golf mk8 GTE, VW has already replaced my steering wheel, however a few months later i went to the same VW dealership to get my car serviced and the issue returned... I dont know what to do...
I would take it up with again. Get them to sort it out or replace your steering wheel again.
I have similar issues on my MK8 Golf GTI as well. Unfortunately the steering wheel replacement didn't solve the problem of the error messages constantly appearing. VW and my dealer are very careful not so say that it's a widespread problem, although they told me there was an extended wait for a replacement steeling wheel.
That is really unfortunate. I've heard people say they're on their 3rd or 4th steering wheel now. I've been quite fortunate that I don't have anymore issues after my steering wheel which has now been on about 3 months.
Will they still replace the wheel even tough the car is out of warranty?
They may....it's a known issue

Is it still fixed???...i gad my gtd go in and in and have the module changed (that's what they claimed it was )...so after being stuck in the garage for TWO months waiting for the part they replaced it...4 weeks later its happening all-over again...i mentioned the steering wheel at the time and they said it wasn't that, yet most people are pointing towards the steering wheel...so has ut happened since you've had it replaced???
I've had no issues with it since now over 2 months. You deffo need the steering wheel. Show them this video

Hopefully will sort it, the steering wheels are on back order so could take a few months for it to arrive but won't affect warranty. It's a known issue with early mk8's.
@@DownShiftThrottle the module was on a back order too...they did a software update and screwed my car up completely so it became dangerous to drive,so had a courtesy car until it turned up (2 months 🙄)...I have emailed them now with a screenshot of your RUclips video and my continued issues so hopefully they'll replace it 🤞... don't want to swap my car yet as I paid around £30k and they've lost thousands already in 8 months...I just want to enjoy my car lol
@@DownShiftThrottle all booked in now for jan 24th for a diagnostic check...the guy I've been dealing with also reckons it'll be the steering wheel as it's a known problem with the travel assist and SOS errors...so hopefully they'll change it and not fob me off with some other crap...🙏🤞🤣
I had a new steering approx 8 months ago and it has started happening again on my 8R recently, took it back to dealers waited 3 hours for them to look at it seemed fine, next day it started doing it again. Its really annoying me now, told the dealers they want me to take it in again..
That's frustrating. Fortunately mine is sorted under first fix. Might be a bad batch of steering wheels

That is crazy. I would hope that the new steering wheel fixes your issues and that it's not from a bad batch.
They have given me another new steering wheel but he said that this one is modified since my last replacement wheel.@@DownShiftThrottle

Hi! How many euro was the new steering whell, plus the installation?
It's covered under warranty so I didn't pay but I'd expect it to be around €500 perhaps

I just replaced mine.. it was €550 in Ireland
Do normal versions have this problem too ? Isnt it an update thing ?
Most early 2021 cars will have this problem…..replacement steering wheel usually fixes the issue

Ok same problem went into VW today and they do know there's a problem. I've booked it in for its first service and for them to go to the first step of the process which is a software update then as the guy said we'll end up with installing a steering wheel. Once the wheel is installed looking at the comments on here i'll be getting shot of the car. Points to ponder: New wheel only it seems temporarily fixes the problem. The wheel (and buttons?) seems to do the trick for a while. Therefore has one bright spark at VW check as to what/wiring in wheel buttons are at fault.
If there has been no change to the manufacturing process to the wheel you're just replacing a new wheel with an old wheel if that makes sense!!!!!
As far as I was aware when the changed the wheel on mine they also changed the haptic feedback buttons. Perhaps why I'm not having re-occuring issues.

Did you buy your car directly from VW I am just wondering because I bought a car second hand I love it but I have this problem everyday I’m not sure if I should go to the dealership/showroom where I bought my golf or do I go directly to VW to have this problem fixed

Yep bought mine as approved used from VW with remaining 14 months of warranty.
so your "Problem FIX" is take it to the dealership? Got mine replaced once and the problem still shows up, mostly in combination with heating the steering wheel

New steering wheel doesn’t fix issue
VW replaced my steering wheel. Fixed the problem for about 8 months. Problem is back, worse than ever. 22 VW GTI Autobahn
That is really poor, 8 would have imagined that by now they would have a fix
@@DownShiftThrottleCar goes in Monday. I have been video documenting every time this happens as last visit the dealer said the fault was due to sensor obstruction. Certainly was not the case as car was clean every time this happens. Fingers crossed VW can retro-fit the new wheel with the actual buttons (and a fix) to the earlier Mk 8s.
Funnily enough i had a new steering wheel, 8 months later mine started playing up again. I am in the dealers now they think i will need another steering wheel.
same prob with my Tiguan 2020 here. No VW for me in the future no more.

Unbelievable from VW! This is a major design issue... I am just over the 2 year warranty and have unfortunately discovered the truth too late... The issue is so annoying, that you are absolutely forced to fix it somehow... But I am not spending 2 grand on a new steering wheel for another design fault by VW! Just no! I am either cutting out the speaker or sueing the company... God damn it...

the golf 8 is a fucking cancer i would have never bought my golf 8r if i knew how shitty this electronic's car was. never had any problem on my 7.5r in 4 years and a half. had like 3 problems already with the 8 r in 10 months
Most of the electronic issues are resolved with the steering wheel replacement. Never had any electric issues after this update
@@DownShiftThrottle Is it a certainty that replacing the steering wheel solves the problem? I have an Arteon with the same problem. When reading forums neither software update nor steering wheel replacement seems to help. Some report having replaced the steering wheel already 3 times ...
@rdsrdsrdsrdsrdsrdsrd hi, yes I’ve read that too but can only go by my experience, I’ve not had any issues after this replacement. Obviously if the sensor is blocked then it will throw up an error which is normal and will clear shortly after
@@rdsrdsrdsrdsrdsrdsrd i had 2 random errors appearing and disappearing randomly several time during a trip: emergency assist and travel assist , just like Downshifttrottle i changed the steering wheel & never had those 2 errors again .
i thought it would fix my last error : sos limited emergency call but it didn't (need a calculator & modul replacement)
