@@btchiaintkidding7837 In fairness, Ufotable specifically cut any scenes or line of dialogue that could even possibly save face for Artoria. The banquet ends a lot stronger for her in the LN, and as they were planning for battle against Gilles de Rais's monster, Iskandar realises he was wrong about Artoria and that she could be pretty serious when need be. In the anime I don't think his change of opinion was as well laid out as in the LN. At the very least barely anyone picked up on what he saying to Gilgamesh on the bridge after the Excalibur scene. The only thing I'd say was directly out of character was her initial reaction to Iskandar's mean words in comparison to how she reacts to Gilgamesh & Shirou tearing into her in Stay Night, (though one could argue it's character development), and she's a lil' submissive against Kiritsugu considering she's probably older than him by that point and is literally King Arthur. She needed to just tell him to stfu and do things her way if his way was being a backstabbing little worm, she knew what she was doing.

Yeah, I'd say the best choice is either Zero or Stay Night if going into Fate. Stay Night helps introduce the setting. Zero, despite it assuming you know how things work already, I find does it well enough that it's a decent jumping on point as well. From there, you can branch off into whatever catches your interest.
@@orga7777 Nah I disagree. The only reason Stay Night is the superior starting point is because it spoils a few player reveals in Stay Night. Other than that you could watch Fate/Zero just on its own and get it. It spends an hour covering the basics for you.

Well, duh. Yeah, technically this is the oh-so-optimal way to get into Fate - if you like reading, aren't bothered by old animation and are fine with investing that much time into a franchise before understanding what it's actually like. But this doesn't appeal to the majority of people. A lot of people nowadays aren't willing to read. This "read the visual novel and don't you dare do things in a different order than me" approach is braindead. I have 31 hours in the FSN visual novel and am barely past the final battle against Berserker in the Fate route. If you go by the 3-episodes rule that a lot of anime-junkies abide by, and just read the first 2 hours or so of the visual novel, you wouldn't even make it to the first servant battle. I'm not trying to denounce the worth of the VNs, heck I'm a big fan of FHA, but I would have never gotten into it and never bothered with the series as a whole if back then my friend had forced the VN upon me. That's just not how you get someone to try something new. There's nothing wrong with "recommending" the VNs, but you gotta have a more open mind about this stuff and let people enjoy stuff. Under every single Fate/Zero reaction video you can find some VN-puritans that can do nothing but complain about how bad it is to start with Zero - or the animes overall - and how much their favorite blonde PNG supposedly got butchered.
@@Mantaforce2 I hope you know that I want people to actually appreciate Fate as a story, not just consoom it. If reading or even putting up with animation from 2006 is too big of an ask, I honestly don't feel like I'd want those people in Fate fandom discussions. Sorry, not sorry.
@ The Fate route isn't even that relevant to the other routes. If you feel so strongly about it, you can still ask someone that has seen Zero, UBW and HF to watch Deen Stay Night later. And if you feel so strongly about the VN you can still ask them to read the VN later. I understand the feeling of wanting others to learn to appreciate the story as best as possible, but it's worth making sacrifices to get them hooked in the first place if they end up enjoying and learning about the rest all the same in the end. And if they don't want to get that involved into the details, then why would you even be worried about them becoming part of the fandom? They won't suddenly show up in some kind of lore discussion discord channel or forum thread. Some may do that and act as if they know better than anyone, but that will always be out of anyone's control. It really shouldn't be that hard to avoid the anime-only fans if you are so appalled by the idea of doing things a different way.
@@Mantaforce2 The first 30 hours of the visual novel are put at the beginning, because they are relevant to the other routes. The VN had structure for a reason. The routes build upon each other, there's a natural progression. Shirou at the beginning of Fate route is a very different character from Shirou at the beginning of UBW. It doesn't make sense timeline wise, but it makes sense when you read the novel as a complete piece. Shirou gets over some things in Fate route, that he no longer has to wrestle with in UBW. So, leaving out Fate route is like telling a person to start a book 1/3rd in, just because it's "more exciting" and we have to "make concessions". The reason why ufotable didn't adapt Fate route is not because Fate route is irrelevant, it's because an adaptation of it already existed. This is the sort of dumb discussion that is super rare to fandoms of long running things, cause it's common sense to start at the beginning 90% of the time. The answer is simple, UBW and HF are built on Fate, so you need to see/read Fate first. Zero is built upon the original 3 routes and spoils major mysteries from all three, so watch/read Zero last.
@@soothingMelody01 There's a playlist where someone recorded FSN on autoplay. The prologue took 2 hours and 40 minutes. At the 2 hour timestamp Rin was about to jump off the school roof. Though the text speed was definitely faster than how I'd read it if I wanted to properly immerse myself in the story. So I think it's fair to assume that someone who's less used to reading would take 3-4 hours for the prologue.
Honestly, as a guy who started with Fate:Zero when it was on netflix forever ago, i'd say that while it might not be an "optimal" way to get into fate, it's a decent enough place to start as it not only still explains WTH is even going on, but the Ufotable adaptations released in the order of: Fate:Zero, Fate:UBW, Fate:Heaven's feel (movies). So I'm pretty sure the idea of the Ufotable productions being in that order is not to simply be a prequel, but to also just start.. from zero. Even non anime enjoyers can get behind Fate:Zero due to the refreshing lack of many anime tropes found in most anime (everyone is in highschool, too much anime centric/culturally different humor/comedic relief, fanservice, etc), so while it IS an anime, it feels like a good show with some actual grit and stakes. Honestly, besides some classics like Trigun which does happen to lend itself to more traditional anime conventions that I do recommend to newbies to anime, Fate:Zero is the other newbie friendly anime I'd honestly recommend and also newbie Fate anime. So even if many if not all disagree with my opinion on the matter, i still think it's a great beginner anime due to the ease of transition to anime as a whole.
@@lemonov3031 Whether it's a spin-off or not has nothing to do with whether it's a good point to start. A lot of times, starting with the original is a very bad idea until you are invested enough to tolerate the bad parts. Perfect example for that are the elder scrolls games. Good luck getting someone into Skyrim by making them play through Arena and Daggerfall. You need to chill and be more flexible with that stuff. Another good example is the League of Legends universe. Tons of people got introduced to it through Arcane. Is Arcane the beginning of League lore? Hell no. Is it a good way to get into the universe? Apparently yes. EDIT: Oh, and lets not even get started on Marvel movies vs the origtinal comics. Should people start with Captain America from 1944?
@@Mantaforce2 As we say in my language, what you are doing is comparing the soft and the warm. Fate has nothing to do with all the other franchises you listed, since stay night is the core foundation of the universe pretty much every single other work directly references or is even directly based on it. Zero is a spin-off created for the fans of the original. Urobuchi was very surprised when people who haven't read the original VN started reading his light novels, since after all it includes full spoilers and skips a lot of exposition. The anime adaptation was changed to be "beginner friendly" but it still tells the same fundamental story. The whole narrative of starting with Zero is built on people being too lazy to seriously invest in Fate, which is a franchise which can only really be enjoyed if you do invest into it. Otherwise you just become an "ironic fan" who just posts unfunny Astolfo memes and annoys people who are actually passionate. And sure, you can start with Zero. But why, if the original is right there and easily accessible on every relevant platform?
@ Starting Fate with Zero instead of Stay Night is like starting Star Wars with the prequels or watching LotR before the Hobbit (because the Hobbit book came first). The "they spoil each other" issue isn't exclusive to Fate. I wouldn't fault anybody for watching LotR first, because it's the more famous trilogy and it's it's own conclusive story that doesn't require the context from the Hobbit to be enjoyable. It technically spoils that Bilbo comes back alive and keeps the Ring. But knowing that the hero will return back home isn't much of a spoiler in a "hero's journey" type of story. I've done several Star Wars marathons when I was a kid - always starting with the prequel trilogy - and I genuinely think that made for a more enjoyable chronologically sound experience. The prequel trilogy adds so much context and worldbuilding to support the plot of the original trilogy. I also think that it's a fair trade-off to know in advance that Vader was Luke's father in exchange for NOT knowing in advance that Anakin would turn evil. Regardless of what the intended order is, there's always a give and take with watching shows out of order. The only time it's necessary to watch/read something in a specific order is when you are actually NEED context from the other show to understand key points of the story. That's why I'd never recommend to anyone to start with Heaven's Feel, because it skips over all the exposition that we were given at the beginning of UBW. But the Zero anime was made to work as a starting point, so there's no issue there. Does it technically spoil HF? Yes. But even though some people like to call it a "greek tragedy" and claim that it's supposed to be watched while knowing the outcome, I've found it very enjoyable to figure out wich master-servant pair I should root for and wondering how things could possibly end well with how things were developing past the halfway point. Not knowing all of that in advance made the tragic ending that much more impactful. And yet, even though I knew that something was up with Sakura when I eventually got into HF, I couldn't possibly predict anything that would happen in those movies. Because when you watch these stories in chronological order instead of written order, that's all you get: An idea of what MAY be - not an absolute certainty of what WILL be. I'm not denying the worth of starting at the beginning. I'm only making a point that you can enjoy a show in different ways. And if one of those ways is more fitting to your personal tastes and makes it easier for you to get interested into a show, then that should be perfectly valid and not be denounced by some gatekeepers calling you a fake fan.

That was simple thanks
My first fate experience was Fate/Extra since I was a kid who just want to play more persona 3 like game and from there it goes downhill
Too late I got prisma illya seasons 1-3 on dvd and I'm watching the dub sorry. (Hopefully I'll play the 3ds game too)
This is how I find out that Prillya has a 3ds game LMAO
Seems easy enough
You should watch/read Lord El-Melloi II before watching strange fake though fr fr
You're right, but it's a dangerous opinion to voice in Fate-related youtube comment sections. :D
@@Mantaforce2 Zero is a spin-off, so it's by definition not the way to start. So he's wrong.
True guide: watch prillya and throw the rest in the trash
I will never forgive Nasu for not putting an Illya H-scene in Fate/Hollow Ataraxia.
@swagnemite-dl3szNasu is a vanillaf4g. No Taiga scene in FSN, no Illiya scene in FHA, what a hack writer
instructions unclear, I started with FGO, Fate Samurai Remnant, and then Fate zero because EVERY SIGNLE youtube video told me fate zero. They also said to not watch stay night but im going to after I finish zero
I'm sorry, chief, RUclipsrs have failed you.
there is no soujuurou 0/10 worst visual novel ever
Watch UBW, HF and Zero and deal with the fact you can't understand everything because the basic story isn't that hard to get. It's just the intricate lore pieces.
nah man start with fate/type redline xDDDD just kidding
