Who is us? Because I’m black and I think they are thugs and they play the game as ghetto as it can be played. There are actually quite a few people that feel that way because it’s true. we don’t have to do everything as a collective unit. We are able to have our own opinions that might not be the same as another black persons opinion. You don’t speak for all of us. You don’t even speak for the majority I’m sure because most people can care less. So I don’t know who the US is you’re talking about. I actually think they reinforce stereotypes constantly. The coach getting on here and blaming criticism on racism is yet another stereotype they are reinforcing.
Sometimes, when people want to speak using coded language, real words come out and are heard. Those reporters know who they are.

@fjbbiden9352 Do you know her? I worked with her at Temple as part of the Athletic Training Staff and she’s a great person. Extremely generous, gives back to her community and cares immensely about the well being of her players. You can dislike her comments but to talk negatively and incorrectly about someone you don’t know makes you look like the one lacking class.

Sports has always brought out the ugliness of racism in this country. We can go back to early 1900's with Jack Johnson a black heavy weight champion in boxing. The man received death threats because he was beating white men in a fair fight.

I am a lifelong Lady Vols and Pat Summitt supporter. In over 40yrs, I never witnessed any Lady Vol player ever body slam a opponent the way that Boston did last night. Ever.
Pat coached her players to be tough and physical, but she never coached her players to physically harm the opposing team.

She literally made a statement that the news some of the journalists reported weren't true. The coach didn't want journalists making up rumors or exaggerate their points to get clicks and views. She just verbalized her opinion. How is that wrong in any way shape or form? Think before you talk.

I used to cover sports for a small outlet, people in sports media ask the DUMBEST questions.
Thugs and Bullies come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Why did coach Staley play the race card? I always thought stereotyping people of any race is racist in itself. And she even brought up "Monkeys" which also come in all shapes, colors and sizes.
I am a hispanic and I love the Donkey Kong video games. Sadly monkeys are seen as animals that shouldn't even existed by the african people and see monkeys as a threat to them despite being very intelligent and having close 98% of their DNA. PS- I love eating bananas. And as a kid and a teenager, I loved climbing trees, fences and apartment complexes by the emergency ladders to reach the rooftop.

Both teams played with class and remained classy afterward. Not knowing much about either team I was surprised that it didn't get more physical. South Carolina definitely had the size and is very talented. Caitlyn and the Iowa gang were just on fire. It took an extremely solid performance by Iowa to beat SC.

Clean game? No. A clean game isn't about missing shots, crashing the boards, and relying on calls not being made.
Those assists that Clark continued to make- that is what a clean game is. I think Iowa resembled the Golden State Warriors- I mean clearly not remotely as skilled- but their game was similar. And Golden State has played the "cleanest" basketball of any team. I guess you could argue against Green. But Draymond is an elite passer.
I thought is was a tough, physical, but overall very clean game all around. And the refs were pretty consistent. There was a lot of banging and jostling in the lane, but they weren't calling ticky-tack over the back calls on SC all night like they could have. In the end the foul totals and free throw totals were very even.
The Iowa coach said it was a bar fight.
@@langston122 She meant that as a compliment that the SC coach completely took the wrong way and got on her soap box. It was rather disgusting.
When someone says that it's like a bar fight rebounding against you- that means that Iowa highly respected SC's rebounding ability, which they should have. SC killed them on the boards- but Iowa did get some very timely rebounds when it mattered most.
In the end, I was very impressed with Clark's offensive game. Her numbers don't look as good as she played because she had defenders on her all game. SC did make her work hard- and that fatigued her. She ended up missing a layup or two due probably to fatigue since SC made her work so hard.
I don't watch women's basketball. I watched this game because I wanted to watch something to make the time on the treadmill go faster. So I recorded it and fast forwarded through commercials. I'm really not a fan of women's basketball- or any women's sport.
But Clark is an exception. I've seen women like Griner dominate due to size. But I don't think I have seen a woman the height of Clark be the center piece of a good offense. SC is very good- they are elite. And Iowa took them out. Perhaps if this game was played 10 times SC would win 7 or 8. Which is what make's Clark's performance that much more impressive- having success against a team the quality of SC.
I haven't followed Staley. She obviously is a good coach. But doesn't she have a history of making certain things about race? I don't know how she turned a bar fight compliment into monkeys. That's on Staley.

Dawn is calling the media out for what they are. This was the greatest women college basketball tournament of all time and media is going out their way to tarnish it.
This is coming from the mouth of the same woman that said she wouldn't take her team to Utah to play BYU because of the volleyball player from duke lying about derogatory names being yelled from the bleachers when there was no proof of that at all. Everyone knows that the Duke volleyball player was lying, now that all the proof has come out. She says she refuses to play Utah in their upcoming home games played in Utah. I am a huge gamecock fan. My dad grew up two blocks behind the stadium in the 50s and 60s. I live in Central Florida and I went up to Columbia South Carolina 3 times last year to watch them play football at home and I also went to the Gator bowl where they played Notre Dame on top of going to the game in Gainesville. Me and many members of my family went to all of those games and support the gamecocks. But when this lady was running her mouth about BYU without knowing the facts, I prayed all day and all night that they would get knocked out of the championship and there has not been a better game that I've watched, from a school that I support watch lose. I will never support the South Carolina gamecock women's basketball team as long as this woman is their coach. Her players might not be bullies, but the head coach darn sure is.

Dawn Staley is an excellent coach and an even better person. That she has even been put in the position to address this is so ridiculous and disgusting in this day and time. This team and coach are wonderful players and people. They represent their team, their school, and the state in the very best possible way. I'm a Gamecock fan BUT if they had to lose, I'm glad it was by the Iowa Hawkeyes!! My daddy's hometown is Missouri Valley, Iowa AND Beebeetown, Iowa. He left Iowa as soon as he became a young man and went into the Army. He only went back to visit his family. Congratulations Iowa Hawkeyes!!

I simply said when he was a young man, he joined the Army and never lived in Iowa again only returning to visit his family on a regular basis. He preferred the mountains (Wyoming) and the beach (Emerald Isle). He hated South Carolina but he moved to Bluffton, SC and lived in Palmetto Bluffs for three years before he passed away.
South Carolina played a great game but that 22 from Iowa sheesh never seen a girl shoot like that before

They didn't know how to play a different kind of offense when all their big players were stuck standing around in the paint. did you see the IOWA players back off from their "shooters" by about 10 feet daring them to shoot and they missed over and over again?
@@minarik01 It was the inability to stop the points in the paint that ultimately led to SCs losing. They couldn't adjust to the give and go and it cost them the championship. ❤
I for one would like the rules to change where you can’t just sit in the paint on defense. Just like the offense has a 3 second rule, make it the same for the defense. SC lost by four, count how many layups they missed.

she coached horribly in this game. This woman had no clue on how to stop IOWA. Without her 2 role players having the games of their tournament this would have been an absolute blowout by IOWA. Staley had no clue how to make in game changes. She just relied on her bigger stronger players being able to bully the other teams over the years. She had no clue how to make in game mgmt decisions to stop her team from losing.
I do think she got outcoached, but in all fairness, does ANYONE have a clue on how to stop Iowa?

Staley entirely, and perhaps deliberately, misses the point of the national criticism. So let’s be more clear. Does SC show great teamwork? No. Do they shoot well? No. Do they run plays? No. They are marvelously coached to be....big. They shot 39% with almost all of those shots being two-footers. It's much easier to play "great" D when you have 6'5" and 6'7" wide bodies under the basket. Again, big. As everyone has whispered during this "dynasty," they play football, not basketball. These observations do not mean that we think SC are “thugs” or “bar fighters.” It does not mean we think SC players are less than wonderful kids off the court. I do not like their style and for good reason. Stop trying to insist I’m disparaging the character of the players or coach. I’m not. Address the real criticisms, not manufactured ones.
